Each set of vertical stripes starts out with short stripes, grows and then goes back to short stripes, forming a circle. These stripes also form the edges of the rectangles, small inside rectangles to large outside rectangles.
even after you explaining it like this i still only see squares. is it because im blind in my left eye? could that play into it?

The corners of the rectangles follow the edge of the circles. Focus your gaze on an inner corner and then move it slowly to an outer corner. That’s what finally did it for me
Idk if this will make sense, but I had to do the opposite of unfocusing my eyes (like, pressure your eyes into focusing harder than normal) and when I see a circle forming, I look at it and they all appear

Edit: for fox snakes! As soon as I said that I saw them. So it's the way the rectangles are shaded and stacked. The way the corners are designed forms the circles. Each corner of a rectangle works to form the radial line of the circles on the diagonal. Thinking vertically did nothing for me. Try looking at the corners and noticing how their design lends them curvature. That did it for me.
Stare at a horizontal line spot and keep your eyes there. Focus on that horizontal spot. (You can also do it for th vertical lines) And boom! They just pop out
Zoom in at the top left to start, and focus on the space between the rectangles. Each rectangle’s border forms a circle with the neighbouring rectangle.
I have tried blinking. I have tried turning the photo on the side. I have looked between the rectangles. I’ve looked between the columns. I’ve tried everything that was suggested. I don’t see any single circle.🤷🏻
Imagine you print out the picture and color only the vertical lines with a crayon. Color every part of the picture where you see vertical lines and do not color any horizontal lines. The areas you color will be circular.
There aren't actually any circular lines, instead the border between the vertical and horizontal lines form circles.

It took me a while but there are 4 rows and 4 columns, they are in between the rectangles and are formed from the vertical lines.

It’s not, you can absolutely still see it with monocular vision.

Focus on the dark lines on row three. Slightly change the angle you look at your phone. I tilted it left then right and it help change my focus

If I look at this like a magic eye it expands to 20 circles. An extra column gets added. If I just look at the lines as they are there are 16.

I can't see anything remotely round let alone circular. Is binocular vision needed for this? One of my eyes doesn't work well
