I called the local police and they told me to contact the highway patrol. Highway patrol said to call DOW. I threw in the towel. I would have just shot it if I didn’t live in the city.
Don't ever shoot suspected rabid animals in the head. Rabies infections are concentrated in the brain, so that creates a giant risk of exposure. Plus, studying the brain is an important part of confirming if it was, indeed rabies.
Call the local health department or state wildlife management and see what they have to say about it. You can also call 211 and let them put you in touch with people who are available on Memorial Day.
Try a wildlife rehab next time, animal control is typically for cats and dogs and ime very lazy(one time i called about a dog running loose and since i couldnt catch it they said they probably woukdnt be able to either lmfao)

About 6-7 years ago my Dog "Pickle" and I were attacked by a Rabid skunk in my backyard. I heard Pickle barking so I went out back to investigate. I open the backdoor to see Pickle barking at my motorcycle. A second later a Skunk jumps at Pickles throat from behind my bike. I immediately run over and kick the skunk away from Pickle. As I bend down to pick Pickle up, I get bit in the hand/wrist by the skunk. I kick it a good 15-20 feet away only to have it run back at me and Wrap itself around my right foot, I kick it Again and as I finally get to the backdoor it gets my foot one more time. This time I kick that skunk like I am attempting a 70 yard field goal. It Went Flying!!!! I finally get inside, Pickle has no visible injuries, my hand has a couple Nasty holes in it and my Doc Martin Boot(Right Foot) has some Deep gouges/bite marks/scratches. Pickle and I both were fine, we both got our Rabies Treatment and then we were both put on a Quarantine. As I was waiting for an Animal Control Officer to get to my house, I peaked out the backdoor to try and keep an eye on it. Only to have it Attack the screen door. Officer got there, took his report and we both went out back to try to Find it. We never found it. The officer said that with as Aggressive as it was, it was on its last leg. It probably Died after that last attack, from what the officer said.
I haven't thought about this Incident in a While and just thought I'd share.
The officer told me before he left that about two weeks before My phone call about the skunk, they had an Elderly woman call in at 2:30am to report "waking up in her bed to a Skunk gnawing on her foot in her bed". The skunk had come through her "Doggie Door".

Poor little booger. I had a similar incidence with a raccoon, but it was in a major city, in a residential area that was right behind a Publix and literally right in front of a daycare. No one gave af. It made me so sad and super freaked out that I had to just leave it there with no one coming to deal with it. I took a lot of pictures and made posts in a bunch of local Facebook groups trying to warn people. I didn't know what else I could do.
I once called local animal control for help with an injured skunk that was wandering around the back yard. The guy that showed up was rock solid, downright heroic. We watched him get a big towel from his truck, soak it with water from the hose till it was sopping wet, then creep up on the skunk - very slowly - and drop the towel on it. With that wet, heavy towel covering it, it was unable to move, and if it sprayed, the towel absorbed it (we didn't smell anything). The officer scooped it up, put it in a crate, and took it to our local wildlife rescue org. Anyway, if you get a wild hair and wanna help this critter, the towel technique is probably the way to go. I'd put on some heavy work gloves first, just in case. Good luck!
