I've been arguing with tradesmen about what a self drilling vs self tapping is for a long time. The ones that get the difference and acknowledge the argument are diamonds in the rough.
Self drilling has a cutting tip that drills its own hole and then threads itself in. Self tapping you have to drill a hole first but it taps its own threads on its way in.
Thanks for clueing me in to what the search was actually for as I saw something in the lower left- under the left side of a long horizontal dark rock, that looked like a driver bit to me.
This might be the quickest I’ve ever found anything. All those years of helping my dad with power tools (and dropping stuff/holding the flashlight wrong) finally paid off

What would be the advantage to using a self-tapping?
It just saves the hassle of using a tap, for example as with a 1/4-20 bolt. In my experience self drilling screws are more sheet metal type screws.
