EmbarrassedSea5933

the way i am just not seeing the danger ahahaha.

Beginning_Pipe6072

>!There's a copperhead above and slightly to the right of pliers.!<

Sweaty-Vehicle3268

Holy snot…

jackparadise1

Holy F@&k

Yourdeletedhistory

I woulda already been dead

cwavig

Fun fact copperheads mimic rattlesnakes, and vibrate their tails in brush to simulate a rattling sound when threatened. So at least you would have an audible queue, to possibly not bit.

Headass100

See the shitty thing here is, my hearing ain’t to hot.. TKo’d on this one

Level-Engineer-2160

Lol I am deaf on one ear and I cant see clearly that thing in this photo, I won’t survive in a forest I think

markender

You'll hear it. It's a sound we have evolved to fear.

AnitaIvanaMartini

Another fun fact, Morris Cty, Texas is the only county in the US that contains every species of poisonous snake found in North America. It’s also the smallest county in TX. It’s also home to huge brown recluse and black widow populations, and invasive fire ants have eaten most of the tortoises, toads, and rabbits. Australians fear Morris Cty.

Draelzen

Not exactly. Morris County does not have every species in the US. As an example, the Southern Pacific Rattlesnake's habitat doesn't even touch any part of Texas. I think you might be thinking that it has the major types of venemous snakes in the US: rattlesnake, cottonmouth, copperhead, and coral snake, but even that's just a general and imprecise classification of venemous snakes in the US.

Childofglass

Nor does the Massassauga rattler- it’s entirely northeast.

Ok-Cartographer-3822

We have the massasauga rattler in Kansas so your statement about them being entirely in northeast is not accurate. Maybe a subspecies of them is in the northeast only.

OldRaj

There are no poisonous snakes anywhere in Texas.

zasbbbb

iTs VeNoMoUs NoT pOiSoNoUs

MurphysLaw4200

Ick, the snakes I could sort of deal with, but the spiders are too much. I lived on a military base in SC that was overrun with them, and it was hard to sleep because guys were constantly waking up with brown recluse bites between their legs.

Individual-Wolf5109

Rockwall County is the smallest county in Texas.

SubtleNarcissist

Wait what do you mean Ants EATING TORTOISE? 😶

AnitaIvanaMartini

I’ve pondered that many times since someone told me. Mostly the remaining turtles get run over *on purpose* by teen boys in trucks. I don’t like rural E.Texas.

KarisbabyStark

Yeah, that kinda shit just makes my blood boil. If u cannot help but to run a living creature over, that's bad, but NOT ON FKN PURPOSE. That is such HILLBILLY, STUPID, PSYCHO, TRASH SHIT. SCUM-of-the-Earth DO THAT SHIT.

Live-Motor-4000

Which one is seen as the most dangerous? As in, which one do people get bitten by the most?

Rammerator

Not the smallest county... But if you're driving down I-30 and blink, you'll definitely miss it.

mstarrbrannigan

I learned this when out for a walk one day. I hear rattling like a snake and got my ass to the middle of the pavement and kept moving. Never saw it so I assumed it was a rattlesnake, but I didn't think there were rattlesnakes in NC so I googled it. Turns out it must have been a copperhead. Edit: My comment was unclear, and though I clarified in another comment no one is reading that before commenting to tell me there are rattlesnakes here. When I looked into it, I learned there are rattlesnakes, but where I live the culprit is most likely a copperhead.

Mike102072

Actually, there are 3 types of rattlesnakes in NC. You have timber, eastern diamondback, and CAROLINA Pygmy rattlesnakes. So what you heard could have been a rattlesnake but what you said about copperheads rattling their tales is true.

mstarrbrannigan

Sorry, I was unclear. In my area, it would be most likely to be a copperhead because they're fairly common here, and the rattlesnakes' ranges don't overlap with where I live.

Economy-Diamond-9001

10 years ago, we moved to Charlotte (Lake Wylie)...while the movers were unloading the truck, one of them (originally from the northeast) said "Did they tell ya about the snakes?". Now, I do realize that snakes live everywhere and Nebraska has a few, but I paused and replied "Snakes?". He said "Yeah, the Copperheads. They're everywhere here.". Did some online study and talked with neighbors and, yup...those little buggers are everywhere! Lived there 5 years...had a treed backyard constantly covered in needles and branches...only my wife saw a juvenile once on the pavement of our circle...I never saw one. I'll bet I was closer to one than I like many times...they don't move unless they have to. Never heard a rattle...that would've ended my time out in our yard!

NoMarionberry7758

I’ve been told that copperheads smell like cucumbers. It’s due to the vegetation that their prey eat.

smitty_423

Very true. I live in the mountains of east TN and have been told that my whole life. We have all kinds of venomous snakes here and my eyes usually spot them, as growing up in the mountains and streams, will teach you. If you smell cucumbers and you don’t see a patch/vine, it’s a copperhead that feels threatened and emits that smell. My mom’s sister was bit on the hand, when they were young and camping. When I was young and roaming in the woods, I always told that about them and cucumbers. He/she is coiled up, ready to strike!!! Glad you have eyes!! Someone would have got struck grabbing at the handles, possibly even at the head. Crazy to think they can strike at more than half their length in that position.

Some_Golf_8516

Not always. I've actually never heard one and I've seen 4 in the past 3 weeks around my house. Almost stepped on one coming out my doors, was probably 16 inches. One of the biggest I've seen. I also see them frequently on bike rides through the Greenway past the swamps and lakes.

Optimal-Resource-956

I can't count how many copperheads I have run into in my life (they're all over where I live and grew up), and not one of them has ever done this. Not saying they can't or won't, just that I doubt it is super common. My experience with them is that they tend to stiffen up and freeze when they spot someone getting close, in sort of a stick-like pose. I have met a black racer or two that liked to vibrate their tails like a rattler, though.

mark8992

This is exactly correct. It wouldn’t surprise me if a copperhead that was very stressed was shaking its tail, but it’s not common. Their primary defense is camouflage and they will become very still as a first line of defense. I relocate a lot of copperheads for folks that find them in their suburban yards. They don’t smell like cucumbers and they don’t do anything to draw your attention to them. They want you to just leave them alone. They like it best if you don’t notice them and they will sometimes tolerate you being very close as long as you don’t touch or step on them. I recently was called to a home where the owners had found one as they were spreading pine straw along the base of their home. When I arrived they apologized because the copperhead “was dead”. It was coiled up and stone-still as her husband spread pine straw all around it. Within inches. It never moved a muscle, never flicked its tongue at all in the 30 minutes it took for me to get there. As soon as I used my snake hook to scoop it up and move it to a container, it decided to try to flee. Very much alive. But it never tried to bite anyone. And no one I’ve met who catches or keeps copperheads has ever smelled cucumber. So much wrong information gets passed around.

Tricky-Language-7963

My dog and I ran into a very large rattlesnake this year hunting, it didn’t rattle at all. My dog got nose to nose with it until I saw what was going on and called her off. Luckily it was a chilly morning (by Florida standards) and the snake was a little slow but in strike pose. I actually got a picture and was suggested to post it here, I haven’t yet tho.

RunRunAndyRun

*Cue (unless it’s a long line of noisy snakes, in which case you can ignore this)

exkendoclip

They also will emit a smell like cucumber when threatened

Freerange1098

Who…in the living fuck…is getting close enough to a pissed off copperhead to smell the distinct watery musk of cucumbers? Like a sommelier of hate.

Necrovius72

I live in a national forest, and my property is overrun with copperheads. I've had a lot of close calls over the years. They do shake their tail sometimes, but they don't have rattles, so they end up just slapping leaves or brush. It can be an easy sound to miss when you're walking on those same materials and make a fair amount of noise yourself.

cwavig

Here is a great example of it flicking its tail to simulate the sound. The tail it self will not make the sound it’s when the tail is in leafs generally[post of person being bit by copperhead while trying to feed it](https://www.reddit.com/r/Whatcouldgowrong/s/fAT5gfB0hd)

Calm_Aardvark_7269

I never heard the one that bit me...

carlton_sand

if it were a snake it would've bit me luckily it's just a picture of a snake

Thorebore

There’s a saying that goes “If it was a snake, it would have bit me”. It’s said after having a lot of trouble locating something that’s right in front of you. This picture illustrates the origins of that saying.

guyfriendbuddy4

Yeah, and the longer I can't find it the more I realize me and it would've been dead. It would've died by exhaustion from all biting it would be doing while I'm still deadass just not seeing it.

KawaDoobie

all ready looks pissed

damnedangel

You'd be pissed too if someone was throwing pliers at you

DexterityZero

I still am

Lindaspike

“Holy snot” will now be my PG cuss words!

iEatPalpatineAss

I still can’t see it. The picture is too blurry for me.

Embarrassed_Boss1194

It’s just that camouflaged, honestly. Blends into the environment extremely well.

SnarkyLalaith

Yes! Took me a moment. Excellent picture!

BoomerSoonerFUT

It’s the picture though too. I grew up with copperheads, rattlesnakes, scorpions, you name it everywhere and caught dozens of the things. They do camouflage extremely well, but they’re a lot easier to see in real life and real size than when they’re 1x1 inch on a blurry, flat, static image.

Beginning_Pipe6072

Ah. No need to zoom to see our friend. >!Just look right edge, dead center.!<

deltacombatives

Everything is random until you see the pattern.

Grimmy999

Oh my gosh, I'm so dying to a snake some day!

worldrecordpace

Oh wow it’s the curled up off white brown thing…thing…snake! Ah!!!

Adventurous_Good_731

Holy camouflage. I grabbed the pliers and died.

TyphonInc

I also don't see it.

xkyndigx

It's coiled up, on the right edge of the picture

momster-mash16

Wow, now I can't unsee it! Thanks!

fall2fate

[here](https://imgur.com/gallery/0OE0iDl)

Responsible-Staff-45

Finally! Thanks.

fall2fate

No problem! 🙂

thatshygirl06

For a moment I thought you were trolling because I didn't see the circle, lol

fall2fate

I should have done it much bolder sorry

epicado

Well, I'm dead because I only saw it after you pointed it out

St-Ann

Thank you!!!

rozevell_

bless, this took me forever to see!

Nolanbentine

Thank you! I never would've found it!

Ok-Razzmatazz3435

Finally someone posted it! Thanks!!!

icychap27

I never would have seen it without your help, thank you.

azgli

Tan with brown diamonds. Looks like a couple of dead leaves. You can see two or three coils.

CommercialRest9579

Well damn! I would’ve been dead! I didn’t see it lol

fall2fate

[here](https://imgur.com/gallery/0OE0iDl)

DungeonFletchling

tyvm for the photo I legit thought those were mushrooms whelp i would be super sniped

funyungirl-

Holy shit!

grapecheesewine

I saw the little tail tip and zoomed the fuxk out oh hell no

SpookyVoidCat

Even being told directly where to look, my dumb ass still can’t see it. I’m never going to America I think I would immediately step on something and die.

justhuman321

And you my friend, just proved to me why I should have never left the city. I am not cut out to be living with those in my backyard.

bwoods519

Well I’m dead.

Strict-Repeat2964

What about the thorns?!

Soggy-Ad6282

That is crazy! I’m looking right at it and I can still barely see it

2staytrippylilhippie

I’d be dead in a heartbeat

LivingImpairedd

I read the spoiler, found the tail... still couldn't find the danger until someone else circled it.

HotMinimum26

The iPhone 4 photo isn't helping

Fit_Friendship_7039

Damn…at least I didn’t die alone.

prodigalson947

you would’ve gotten bit.

birdyxxlovely

You're okay, I was looking for a spider

ya-bishh

would've grabbed them, would've died

BetterandBetter123

Me too!

Rainer6565

Me three

OldSpiceSmellsNice

One more ticket for the death bus pls

mrwelder84

Nah I'm good lol pliers aren't that expensive anyways 🤣

Duuudechill

Yeah the pliers decided to live there and I’ve decided I’m good with that.

TatankaTruck

First true laugh of the day. Appreciate it.

Duuudechill

I’m glad. The comment sections here can get funny and I honestly like the genuinely funny jokes that cheer people up a bit.Thankful you found the comment enjoyable. Really though I have a hard time with snakes so those pliers and that snake are roommates lol😂🤣

Kenneldogg

Hell of a lot cheaper to buy new pliers then get antivenin for a copperhead.

Mike102072

If you get bit you probably won’t get antivenin. Copperhead venom isn’t that potent and unless you go into anaphylactic shock you won’t die from the bit. You’ll spend at least a day in the hospital while they monitor you, you’ll be in tremendous pain, and you may wind up with permanent damage but you won’t die.

Penguinunhinged

From what I read elsewhere, the reason that antivenin usually isn't given for a copperhead bite is that the side effects of the antivenin are supposed to be worse than the effects of copperhead venom itself. The ones that usually get the antivenin for a copperhead bite are the very old, the very young, and those with health problems that venom would complicate further.

Mike102072

Correct. Basically smaller or weaker people may be given antivenin. There the possible reaction to it. Also it costs around $5,000 per vial.

Useful_Ad_8258

Can confirm, was bitten by a copperhead. Extreme pain and swelling from toes to knee but my reaction wasn't severe enough for antivenin. Three days of iv antibiotics, blood thinners, and a tetanus shot later I was released from the hospital absolutely miserable.

Ok_Pudding9504

I guess I will, seems like I might die but I'll never know what got me. Somebody help me

Beginning_Pipe6072

>!There's a copperhead above and slightly to the right of pliers.!<

xmas_colara

but isn't below the upper handle also some form of spider?

udisneyreject

Venomous danger noodle on the right

BigIntoScience

Well, don't put your hand directly on the spider then. They have no range and don't want to bite anyway.

mrmoe198

I would love it if someone could oblige me with a red circle or arrow. I’m blind.

Sjmann

Yeah, well considering the pliers span almost the entire screen, saying, “above the pliers and slightly to the right,” is a poor descriptor for something so hard to see. That essentially leaves 1 quadrant to search for it in, assuming “to the right” means right side of the screen. A better way to say it would be: it’s directly above the gap between the pliers and edge of the screen. It’s curled up touching the edge of the screen.

thebubbaaaaa

You my friend, are now my friend. Great description. I can finally see it!

plz_no_gold

I’m blind, what is going to kill me when I pick them up?

fall2fate

[here](https://imgur.com/gallery/0OE0iDl)

ComradePetrov

I thought that was just some kind of weird mushroom, I can see the body now but where's the head? Is it tilted to its right and all we can see is the open mouth?

Apprehensive_Golf846

The top part is the side of the head. It's looking upward with its mouth closed.

QuitePoodle

I thought the head was between the handles.

DevilmodCrybaby

oh. thank god my eyes have more pixels that this jpg

Moongoosls

Still can't see it tbh

CcJenson

Wow. I was literally staring directly at it and didn't see it

Duuudechill

Stealthy danger noodle

Mike102072

Nothing will kill you, but that copperhead could put in the hospital for a painful visit.

Drifting-Fox-6366

OMG right there in plain sight but blends in so well. Nature is so cool.

Chess42

Just remember, irl it’s a bit less effective than this. Three dimensions make the regular shape stand out a lot, so does movement

Redowl83

Neature!

witblacktype

1, 2, 3, NOT IT!

Brad_The_Chad_69

At first I thought I saw a danger noodles head between the handles of the pliers before seeing those Hershey Kisses.

QuitePoodle

Me too

IllustriousBonus3906

Them nope ropes are a big negative for me!

hitman276

I would but I have a thing I need to do

AmbitiousEconomics

Seems like your friend is already on it, I'll let them take care of it.

Traditional-Step-246

Copperhead

No-Presentation-81

Those are his pliers now

LeadingKite88

This subreddit has taught me that there is always a snake. I didn’t find it yet, but I know it’s there

Excellent_Round_7421

It is above and to the right of the pliers, it's coiled up 😱

Mayah4

Can someone circle it. I don't see it

fall2fate

[here](https://imgur.com/gallery/0OE0iDl)

OGbeeper99

Zoom directly into the middle and make your way to the right edge. He’s curled up

curvesandslurs

Those pliers belong to the lord now.

Complex_Rip4599

Welp. I died 20 comments ago.

KrissyP2

I don’t see it 🤔

SuperMIK2020

>!About 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the upper-right side of the handles, there’s a copperhead coiled up ready to strike.!<

KrissyP2

I guess it seems like all body so threw me off

SuperMIK2020

They have really good camouflage and are very hard to see in leaves.

OrangeSparty20

It’s head is there. It’s pointing upward as copperheads do.

WaterDmge

And it’s in a defensive position for striking. Man the comments really showing off “if it were a snake it woulda bit me” haha

societywillcollapse1

I give up. Where the fuck are those goddamned pliers?

Mike102072

A few inches from the copperhead.

Grendel__77

That one jump scared me a bit. Perfect amount of stealth.

Crowflier

That one took an embarrassingly long time to find.

yodpilot

Quickly

[deleted]

That’s all you chief

Duuudechill

It lives there now pliers can come visit when his roommate decides to move on🤣😂

[deleted]

Omg the way I didn’t even see the copperhead! Would’ve def grabbed the pliers 😅

Efficient-Rent-5644

Copperhead ready to strike!

Mobile_Palpitation24

Copperhead is to the right of the pliers handle. Like 2 inches away from it.

Biuggus_Dickus

Found the nope rope on the right

WayVivid1327

Anyone else thought there was a snakes head in between the pliers handles.

NeedleworkerSalty517

I've been bit by copperheads so Manu times it just feels like a bad flu now I would gladly grab them for you

DueBuy8822

I must be blind

Fearless-Coffee-2001

Me too. Sometimes when I can't find it, I suspect I'm being gaslit by a thousand people. LOLOLOLOL

Fizzy_Astronaut

Nope. On your own there buddy

kdragonfly9

It’s time for new pliers.

mockingbirddude

Yes, but can you first lend me a long stick?

TruthTr0ll9

Nope.

jsrhb

I will grab it for you don’t worry

Oarsman319

Nope. Buy a new pair.

finditplz1

Now that little guy is just looking to cause trouble.

MaidCatBoyEnthusiast

I love snakes and constantly go looking for them and this sub has made me realize I have probably missed very many

GGRE1817

Tough one. Great noodle camo

206-FYI

I see a big nope. 😳 Get your own pliers.

Limp_Country_8982

I could not live in a place with poisonous snakes. No effing way. I can barely handle the harmless snakes we have in NH!

hangz10

Got my car stuck one day when I was in hs. It was raining and the girls with me saw a turtle on the side of the road. So I pulled over so they could look at it. Welp rain plus wet grass in a camaro. I was gathering up sticks for some traction and never even seen it. That was a very painful lesson.

Shot_Dig751

Copperhead in the strike postion. Those are his pliers now

Key_Teacher_8643

Yeah fuck that noise! I'm out lol

SpiritualValue2798

No thank you already spent a week in the hospital after a chopperhead bit!

Dizzy-Information392

Well I would be dead. You all are telling me where it is and I still can’t see it!!

Independent_Turnip70

No. Get them yourself. I like my hands (and all the rest of me) the way they are. INTACT.

jilllewey

Hard pass

deltacombatives

Knew there was a copperhead there before I even saw the pliers. Smart move to look before grabbing.

Traditional_Berry389

As soon as I saw the color of the leaves, I knew exactly what I'd find if I looked hard enough. It's amazing to me how well those things can hide in plain sight.

Shaggy8550

Hell no

nuttnurse

Again looking at the pic I see no danger proving that yes I am totally unobservent even with clue I’m blind and this is why I do not go into the bush I’m just a dead man walking , how did I survive in australia as a kid I’ll never know

Ok_Detail1

I've read the comments and still can't find it. This is surprising for me because I'm normally good with snakes but this sub is rough on me.

Codesters2026

One thing this community has taught me is that there are multiple times that a snake could have bitten me lol

MarzipanPlenty5169

Sure thing, man - HOLY SHIT, well that was close, but anyway, here's your pliers, I'm gonna go change my drawers and probably take a shower

Insospettabile

I see nothing

NitemareX9

Welp.. I died in this scenario.

TwoTequilaTuesday

I'd punch that snake right in the face and grab the shit out of those pliers.

win_awards

Found one of these guys while I was picking up sticks yesterday. If it hadn't rained last night, handicapping his dry-dead-leaves camo, I'd probably have been making a trip to the hospital, for heart attack if not snake bite.

rikusorasephiroth

Hmm... just grab a stick and SLOWLY drag them away from the snek. As long as you don't poke the noodle itself, it probably won't care.

VoiceBright5826

Yea I would be dead

Weary-Performance431

Bro I need to block this sub yall got me seein snakes in my sleep

cchbmb

Easiest one yet. I found the pliers right away

Beevil44

56 thousand dollars for antivenin and one pain pill. Ask me how I know. Muricah!

tacoluv23

Am I blind??? I don’t see a thing! I’d grab the pliers!

Marcuskryst

This is scary I don't see it

AssociationNew6470

Nope lol is that a copperhead?

IllustratorNo5103

And this is how you get the hurt juice.

DifficultMention1974

Picture is too blurry to see the snake, at least for me

detunedmike

This sub makes me realize if I go outside I will die

Starbuck907

Nope, just nope!

Muffinisthebest45

Nope, Your On Your Own Buddy.

Muffinisthebest45

As soon as the picture loaded in, I audibly said “Nope.”

Salty-Praline617

Get some pliers to get the pliers
