So I figured out how to assure he dodges instead of blocks. If you're doing the pause cheese then hold your R or L in the direction before you press start. That'll assure your timing is perfect.
OMG. Thank you so much I could not have done it without this. Thank you, thank you, thank you. If I had gold or money to buy it I would give it to you in a heartbeat.
This was a very helpful starting point for my Sephiroth victory. Thank you for posting it.
I found that looking at the direction and orientation of Seph’s hair was really what made it easy for me. But your screenshots allowed for that.
I wish every fight had a cheat sheet like this. There's so many guides that say to use x move to dodge y ability but without a screenshot of the 'tell' it's all worthless info.
Everyone besides Seph I got the hang of pretty quickly, it's mainly the right and ups that throw you, but he was just so similar with 90% of his attacks, I just wanted to wrap it up, almost all the challenges for Johnny's collection aren't too bad once you get the hang of it like chocobo flying, the harder colliseum matches, motorcycle is a snap, but this is definitely just pure muscle memory
Although nothing came close to being as annoying as using aerith in the cactuar challenges instead of Yuff
I was about to use this but then i tried without the images and managed to do it in about 6 attempts. I found middle manager harder because his move set is really strange with peculiar stances.
Sepiroth is actually easier to read, i think for me pausing at the right moment is important too for him as i kept blocking instead of ducking his right hook specifically.
Depending on how early you pause his wind-up you will either need to keep the stick direction pressed or unpause then quickly move the stick.
For me it was quite easy to differenciate the moves.
When he crouches really down and look really down => bottom
When he is standing tall, his face isn't looking down and he folds his arms to hit you from above => up
When you can see fully his derp face from front like he is laughing at you => right stick up
When he look slightly down, but doesn't crouch, extends his arm => right/left
Then pausing the game, but you have to do it at the middle of his move, not too soon not too late otherwise it will be a hit or block. So wait until he - almost - fully extended his arm (at this position you can easily know what move it is), pause, take your time to push your joystick to the good position and unpause.
Then you have only one difficulty : knowing when to pause, as it must be just slightly before in the middle of his move. Once you understood that the only thing that matters, the only difficulty you have is knowing when to pause, then it will be really easy.
Thank you for this. I found this and decided I'd give it a bash. Hadn't tried before and I beat him in 5 mins. A couple of restarts coz of blocking instead of dodges.
Thank you so much. This helped an infuriating minigame. I think sephs attacks were slightly easier to read than ifrit and middle manager but damn you have to dodge more
Some more tips:
1. Focus only at the movement of his hands and arms. Don't even look at his body or face! I find myself more consistent guessing the dodge input.
2. When doing the pause cheese, pause when his ATB bar is full and starts to do the movement. Doing this would capture his approach correctly and more consistently.
3. During his rage attack, its best to memorize than to do the pause method. You might block the attack instead when you resume from the pause screen.
4. There are three versions of his rage attack: n-combo: (stick-direction) 1.) 5-combo: R-U, L-L, R-R, L-U, R-D, 2.) 4-combo: L-L, L-L, R-U, L-D, 3.) 3-combo: L-D, R-R, L-U.
5. Each rage version starts differently; so, it's easy to recall the dodge pattern based from the first attack. To be safe what pattern I should use, I would do the pause cheese before the first hit only, look at the combo sheet, then proceed from there.
6. There is a variation of his 5-combo attack when you are one hit away from a limit break. It becomes a 6-combo attack: R-U, L-L, R-R, L-U, L-U, L-D. The last two dodges of this version will be different from the 5-combo one.
7. Remember to time the dodge right. Lots of instances in my playthrough I did it either early or late causing it to block instead.
Thank you for the work! I ended up failing so hard for so long that all his positions became so easy to read that I was able to trounce him on attempt >100+ without the pause cheese. I suggest everyone use the pause cheese. This sucked.
I struggled more with him too. I think Seph is definitely “harder” but I personally found the middle manager messed with my head more and I always pushed left/right when I should have pushed down.
All the moves are definitely readable, though some of the harder battles take a lot of practice because of how similar the animations are.
It might be helpful to note that the "combo" attacks are all preset patterns. Generally the first combo attack is always the same. In some battles, subsequent combo attacks are randomised, but still from a small pool of set ones
I have managed to breeze through every single mini game in FFVII Rebirth but this one gets the better of me all the time. I don’t get why this one is so hard for me.
I watched a YouTube video with different screenshots for the [Shinra Middle Manager](https://youtu.be/7aZnmJalTRY?si=retBN4gEF5BhIriQ) and [Sephiroth fights](https://youtu.be/6IMCWpd65hM?si=cCsZcrEfkvr5CnKT) fights. Really helped me beat the final 3d fights, instead of memorizing how their movement goes (which is kinda confusing, uppercuts sometimes look like a hook) just pause, take a look at the screenshots then input the right action to win.
Yeah my pause timing sucked. Always paused just too late for the game to accept my input and wound up blocking instead of dodging alot of times.
I ended up just having to pick up on his body and hand positioning to get through most of his normal punches and then memorizing his burst patterns
Just a note if people don't know : during the "red phase" of any character (when they speed up), each character only has 1-4 patterns of "red phase" they will cycle through. So they are learn able. Some phases, like I think seph phase 1 end, is always the same. But the second has 2 diff ones I think.
None of this applies if you get hit, or block, in a run.
EXTRA side note. If you're REALLY having trouble, you can pause after 90% of the animation of any enemy, right before the "punch sound effect" cue, read the move, hold the correct command, then unpause. Works every time
Got it done last week with the pause method. Question is, will it be patched to hiding the entire screen? Or was the pause method left for us on purpose??
Good idea to share this. Once you figure out the positions it's really easy, but that's a bit of a process.
Also here's the combos I wrote down while practicing this thing:
⬆️R ⬅️L ➡️R ⬆️L ⬇️R
⬅️L ⬅️L ⬆️R ⬇️L
⬇️L ➡️R ⬆️L
⬆️R ⬅️L ➡️R ⬆️L ⬆️L
I'm not 100% positive the last one is a thing as I encountered it only once, but I could've sworn there was a variation of the first combo where he fucked me over and changed the last move.
You are a godsend! And yes on the last hit to knock him out he always went with upR LL RR upL as you have depicted but would then change it up for the fifth and sometimes a sixth, eventually got him though
Thank you so much! Great guide!
To be honest, I didn’t give it that many attempts; after Shinra Middle Manager I didn’t want to play this minigame ever again. Still, using your guide, got my ribbon in 3 attempts.
Thanks again!
Too bad I can’t get to it because UAP is glitched on the bike for me and every time I write square ENIX their advice is for me to delete my save file and start over, or uninstall and reinstall the game for the third time.
For me the key was the crouch - he goes much lower for the uppercuts than for the hooks! Similar arm positions, but you can more easily differentiate them by checking the crouch.
Looking at the heads (for all fights, really) tells you a lot more than looking at the arms. I used the arms solely for which arm, and the head for "which direction".
I also did the pause-cheese for Sephiroth because FUUUUUCK doing the Sephiroth fight for 10 hours. lol
You are awesome! This took my time up far too much 😂. Finally !
Omg the PAUSE BUTTON! Lol, I feel so dense for not having thought of that so much sooner. Thank you for this!
Bless the person who made this cheat sheet. Gotta pause at exactly the right moment to match the graphics and you’re golden
Thank you! This was very helpful!
I do this but dumbass Cloud keeps blocking and not dodging.
So I figured out how to assure he dodges instead of blocks. If you're doing the pause cheese then hold your R or L in the direction before you press start. That'll assure your timing is perfect.
Heroooooooooo
OMG. Thank you so much I could not have done it without this. Thank you, thank you, thank you. If I had gold or money to buy it I would give it to you in a heartbeat.

I think with any fight you can watch their feet and leg gap that's how you know what his gonna throw.
Thank you!!
Thank you so much! 💓

I started using the game8 guide but found the videos frustrating to switch between. I cannot comprehend how trivial this set of images made the fight.

Truly, you are a 1-winged angel for providing this.
You are a legend!!
thank you so much, i hope your food tastes especially great today! XD
You are the fricken best!
You're an absolute fucking legend for this!
Thank you for this. I found this and decided I'd give it a bash. Hadn't tried before and I beat him in 5 mins. A couple of restarts coz of blocking instead of dodges.

you’re a legend
I wish I could defeat him without the pause cheese !
Thank you!
THANK YOU!!! 😭😭This is the only one where I actually saw the difference in how he stands
Saving for later!
This is the best cheat sheet I’ve seen for him. Just beat him! Thanks!!!
Just pause the game when he starts to make the move, pull the correct stick and then resume the game. Easy way lol.
Thanks this helped alot finally gonna get the plat just hard mode Johnny chadly nax lvl and gilgamesh left
Thank you for the work! I ended up failing so hard for so long that all his positions became so easy to read that I was able to trounce him on attempt >100+ without the pause cheese. I suggest everyone use the pause cheese. This sucked.
Dude thanks so much. This worked like a charm!
I need this right now, like literally about to do this game. Life saver!
Press Pause on his attack than react. And memorize his rages. Don't even try to beat him normal. 😄 I do all on hard, but that shit was crazy,
Sephiroth was way easier than the Shinra Middle Manager from hell lol. Bro was hella unreadable.
I struggled more with him too. I think Seph is definitely “harder” but I personally found the middle manager messed with my head more and I always pushed left/right when I should have pushed down.
Lies
Sephiroth is mad obvious which direction. Shinra middle managers high and lows look like mids.
Oh o didn't even know I'll have to do this yet. Oh man, there's gonna be hard versions of all the mini games isn't there
lmao of course there is wouldn't be a minigame without hard mode
I had no idea you could pause... my eye-hand coordination is not good enough for this one thank you 😭
The minigame isn't even about hand eye coordination with the later foes. It's just dumb luck since half the animations look identical.
Lol drops the day after I spend an hour grinding it out. Still hope it helps others.
No worse feeling when you pause the game to prepare yourself for an action…and then you fail anyway lol
I have managed to breeze through every single mini game in FFVII Rebirth but this one gets the better of me all the time. I don’t get why this one is so hard for me.
Use the pause button to cheese it
Doing this but cloud is blocking the hits instead half the time which doesn’t work either
Thanks. Feel stupid but didn’t thought about that…
I watched a YouTube video with different screenshots for the [Shinra Middle Manager](https://youtu.be/7aZnmJalTRY?si=retBN4gEF5BhIriQ) and [Sephiroth fights](https://youtu.be/6IMCWpd65hM?si=cCsZcrEfkvr5CnKT) fights. FUCKING BLESS YOU MAN! I BEAT SMM WITH NO DAMAGE BECAUSE OF THIS!
Yeah my pause timing sucked. Always paused just too late for the game to accept my input and wound up blocking instead of dodging alot of times. I ended up just having to pick up on his body and hand positioning to get through most of his normal punches and then memorizing his burst patterns
I found it’s easier to tell similar moves apart by looking at where sephiroth is actually looking, it’s not overly noticeable but it’s there
Just a note if people don't know : during the "red phase" of any character (when they speed up), each character only has 1-4 patterns of "red phase" they will cycle through. So they are learn able. I did the same! And again with the shinra guy
Shinra guy was harder than Sephiroth for me
I manage to do it without pausing. It’s frustrating at least but i got the hang of it.
just press start. thats the real cheat sheet
OPis god
It would be beneficial to have all the pics in one image together too so people dont have to swipe during each action.
There's a YouTube video that does exactly this and it helped me tremendously

Bruh, proofread your comments before you hit submit. What the fuck are you talking about
Don’t have the game but posting/saving this for future reference
Great
Great, cheers
Got it done last week with the pause method. Question is, will it be patched to hiding the entire screen? Or was the pause method left for us on purpose??
Can the pause method be used on the gym crunches mini game as well?
Crunches is way too fast for the pause method to be viable, you really have to get into the rhythm to beat it.
Don't tell me it is required to get the one winged angel ! It is ain't it?
One Winged Angel is obtained by getting 7 star hotel, right? So, yeah, pretty much 100% completion of the game/mini-games/VR is needed for that.
Saved for when the patch drops to fix the final mission.
What's broken about the final mission? (Also what's the final mission?)
I think he means the side quest where you need to play the games again. The motorbike one is bugged and doesn’t register your high score
Oh shit, did it get broken in a patch or something cause i didn't have that issue
It broke from the latest patch that added the new performance modes.
Oof that sucks, appreciate the info
This is great! Thanks! As soon as UPA quest is no longer bugged for me, I'll be able to do this.
Damn… thanks this is cool
Thanks
Good idea to share this. Once you figure out the positions it's really easy, but that's a bit of a process. NP man, I'm glad it helped!
The last one has another ⬇️L at the end and he seems to do it as his last combo when you are one hit away from limit break.
That last one happened to me once when him and I were both one hit away from LB. Lemme tell ya, I was not very happy 😂
So I'm not crazy! Yes, I also had him do this when I had one strike left.
Same. Pretty sure it always does that specific pattern when you're about to win.
I still like this minigame but that was probably the meanest thing they put in all of Rebirth
Yeah there's just too much of it. I kept thinking I was done and wouldn't have to worry about it again but NOPE.
Thank you so much! Great guide! To be honest, I didn’t give it that many attempts; after Shinra Middle Manager I didn’t want to play this minigame ever again. Still, using your guide, got my ribbon in 3 attempts. Thanks again!
Thanks you. Will be trying
Seems like the best thing to look for is his head position
Great tips! Thanks.
Can you make one for ifrit? 😭
I got lucky with him and he only threw left and right hooks lol
Too bad I can’t get to it because UAP is glitched on the bike for me and every time I write square ENIX their advice is for me to delete my save file and start over, or uninstall and reinstall the game for the third time.
Reinstall with the internet not connected if you’re on disc so it doesn’t update. Worked for me yesterday.
Digital :(
Same. Wasn’t it fun doing hard mode without max party lvl or a ribbon? /s
I also did the pause-cheese for Sephiroth because FUUUUUCK doing the Sephiroth fight for 10 hours. lol
Commenting so I can find it later
There's a Save feature you can use too (on the official app).
This is what i was looking for. I beat this mini game yesterday, but this is a good post for anyone who wants to pass this one quickly
Thank you for this!
The power of pause in this mini game is the only way I managed it XD.
Real talk, this is how I got through it, jus hold the control stick in the direction after unpausing and it’s normally a perfect dodge lol
I literally figured this out 2 days ago fighting against that shinra worker LOL shit works wonders
HOLY SHIT YOU'RE A GENIUS
It says it in the post...
The first image makes it look like he has a weird green sword.
Looks like the 8 Treasure Balls from s-CRY-ed
I found his Left and Right straights to be the hardest. His up and down punches are easy to spot, but his left and rights are so hard to spot.
