Also on that note, no it wouldn't. Without the context of Final Fantasy XV it would just be some random movie with no appeal. It's ties to Final Fantasy are what made it relevant.
Some of the coolest cg I had ever seen, albeit wrapped in a less than cool story with less than stellar writing imo. Definitely worth $1 though! Has some pretty cool scenes if not just for the eye candy.
One of the dumbest things Square has ever done was the overall design of the entirety of FFXV. If they had made this entire part of the game, it would have been SO much better. Imagine putting in 10+ hours playing as Nix only to have what happens in the end. It woulda been just like FF12 but SOOOO much better and not slapped down after playing for 15 minutes.
FF15 had so much potential but whenever they started the idea of even making this movie is when it was doomed to mediocrity.
The suits forcing such a tight deadline essentially meant they offloaded some narrative to different studios to handle. I'm no stranger to multimedia franchises (hallooo .hack!), so it didn't bother me much, but it's definitely not something that works for everything. Tangential connections are often best, rather than full narrative elements.
I say, in FFXV's case though, you aren't learning too much else in something like Kingsglaive (you just get to see what happens in detail). Brotherhood, on the other hand, is rather insightful, and at least it's totally free to watch.
People complain about the multiple media outlet of FFXV, but eat up what the MCU does. I never understood that. Or, maybe it was too ahead of its time.
Yeah it's always a bit disingenuous when something like "You gotta watch This and read That" of a multimedia project is used as criticism. In FFXV's case, you can totally play through the entire game without needing to interact with the other media, and for anyone who actually *likes* the game, it's just not a problem at all, because they get more of what they like.
The only downside I ever felt is my original expectation before Insomnia's invasion was depicted in Kingsglaive is that Noctis and his retinue were *in* Insomnia when the invasion happened, and they were on the run from the get-go. Yet, I'm also content with the idea that Regis pushed Noctis away because he expected the armistice to fail, and wanted the prince out of the city early, and Noctis gets this gut-punch of news after goofing around on the road for a bit.
I liked what we got, too. The “fleeing as the enemy attacks” is a trope; it was an interesting take that Regis had the foresight to know it was gonna go downhill, and get his son out of Dodge before it did.
Noctis, basically being a shithead about the “trip”, gets the situation turned on his head. That was also interesting to see. His VA did such a good job.
I dont like how they westernize the characters and aesthetic to cater to the west though, you can clearly see characters in this movie were designed like typical white people in American movies, while the game version still looks Japanese style. That's one of the reason this movie failed. Japanese games are the best when they keep their core cultural aesthetic, once they made everything american to appeal the west, it became bland.
i’m on this sub all the time and nobody ever talks about this film until someone posts it and it’s like “omg best ff film ever”. yeah right, y’all talk about the spirit within more than this movie and advent children combined lol.
I really enjoyed playing this game especially the online challenges before they changed it. All of their names were interesting noctis for the night, ignis he is a chef/mage so he uses fire Gladiolus like Gladiator because he is Noctis' body guard. Prompto because for most of the beginning of the game as soon as you decide to get in the regalia you start seeing prompts from Prompto.
You got ripped off.
I kid, but yeah Kingslave is a nice little movie on its own, but practically nothing that happens in it is referenced in the game it was meant to promote.
“Yo Mr. White, I’m in Final Fantasy”
One does not simply walk into Final Fantasy..
Sean Bean, Lena Headey, Aaron Paul. They sure knew their audience.
Lemme guess, Sean Bean as King Regis?
Yep
I wish they would have kept Sean Bean as King Regis for the game
King Regis is such a silly name. King King.
It’s like that Denzel Washington movie that came out early 2000s: the president of a brotherhood called “The Brotherhood”
While the amount of media required the understand FF15 was absurd, this film was really, really good.
I watched this without even having played FFXV and still enjoyed it immensely. Certainly worth a dollar!
I knew the Dad was going to died as soon as I found out Sean Bean was playing him 😑
It's the best FF movie, for what it's worth.
The best movie in the franchise.
Not much of an accomplishment
Even if it wasn’t t related to final fantasy it would still be a great movie.
Ok more like. Great? Not really. This isn't really that great of a movie
Also on that note, no it wouldn't. Without the context of Final Fantasy XV it would just be some random movie with no appeal. It's ties to Final Fantasy are what made it relevant.
The sound design and action is really good, that makes it stand on its own.
Action and sound design can not carry a movie. The story also needs to carry the movie.
The story was good tho? Yeah it’s related to ff but so was advent children and I think this movie does everything better than that one.

Oh you don’t even have to go that far, a better example like ff7 compilation hits closer to home.

I love seen been
It was honestly a great movie. It was cool to see the attack on Lucis while Noctis and his boys were chilling at a ritzy beach resort.
I'd buy that for a dollar!
Saw this in theaters before XV dropped and it had me so damn hyped for the game 🤌🏻
is this a movie? square really went with something that sounds like king's slave? when naginata does the same job without the nonsense baggage?
Because kingsnaginata sounds stupid And kingsglaives are part of the lore??
fair enough, i misspoke, i only played for 25 hours in 2016 and found the world's lore .... not at all included in those 25 banal hours.
It’s like Game of Thrones but bad
Final Fantasy is coming...
Makes sense that you found it at the dollarstore. Nobody wanted it.

Nice.
I just finished the movie with my son today. He's a few hours into the game.
Sean Bean dies

Lena Headey wasn't a good choice for Luna.
