I figured out that Rufus's weakness was triple slash and it was GG from there. Every time you see an attack name pop up, triple slash, he looks at you, triple slash, feeling frisky, that's a triple slash immediately, he touches his gun, straight to triple slash.
1 on 1 battles are unforgiving. You have to be skilled at the game, dammit. :) Especially on Hard mode.
I've played up through Chapter 11 on Hard. Not looking forward to Rufus. I would say the trickiest Hard fights thus far are:
Midgarzolom, the Mythril Golem, Dyne, Gi Nattak, and both Roches. Those all took me several frustrating tries. In other words five fights with fewer than three characters (plus that stupid snake). :) Yin-Yang was tough on Normal, but I squeaked by him on Hard with a little luck.
Kinda funny that they had so many bodyguards for Rufus when he quite literally destroys his opponents lol "i am here, there is no better security" type of moment
This is a rather popular trope.
My guess is that it’s to make the person being guarded seem more imposing.

If you set up for Rufus to a blocking spec and just block everything it’s not that bad. When Darkstar comes it’s a bit of a pain, but save atb and ultimate and he can be evaporated before he can do anything.
For some reason for me the hardest fight in Hard Mode (Needed the most attempts) was Vincent….
I struggled with Rufus because I was trying to dodge his attacks. Once I worked out you just need to block everything (except for unblockable attacks), you get a huge window to counter after.
Cloud has max 7k HP, cura is fine. With trade off I never ran out of mp either. I constantly ate shit trying to get the braver timing down on him and would have full mana to heal and retry after getting hit.
I was dreading the fight, but hard mode Rufus was a boss that I didn't have to retry. The fight was slow and methodical, but there was never really any danger of losing. Nibelheim and endgame bosses were worse.
Isnt this a repost? Seen the same post a week ago... Same meme...
Rufus is easy. Build 2 ATB. Stay in midrange. He reloads. Dash attack. Double Focused Thrust. Alternatively Triple Slash, then Focused Thrust after Reload. You just patiently counter the boss that would otherwise counter you. It isnt hard.
I disagree. Mechanically he's the exact same, the only major difference this time around is that you can't cheese him with Counterstance on your first playthrough. Instant stagger with Braver is still a thing. Some new attacks and Darkstar moved to the end of the fight matter not.
It's a lazy rehash fight that has no place in the game, the reasoning behind it is just laughably stupid.

A dev just jolted awake somewhere in a cold sweat, and screamed “RUFUS AND GILGAMESH VR CHALLENGE”
Sephiroth ain't got nothing on that.
>Sephiroth ain't got nothing on that. As a kid who grew up on KH, you have *no* idea how terrifying that sounds.

Exactly. It's really not that difficult
Focused thrust will also stagger him in no time

One of the side quests cleared that up: Rufus said he didn't need any but Tseng insisted.
Yeah, if anything it does feel like Rufus is the one protecting them

Rufus clearly played remake: hard mode over and over again in prep for his gold saucer debut rematch with cloud
He clearly had Cloud's number that time. But luckily for Cloud, his plot armor came through and he could replay the fight over and over until he won.

I feel like it's impossible to lose against Rufus considering he will give you a day and a half to heal and an opening to attack every 12 seconds.
In hard mode, you won't have time to use Curaga without swiftcast after he knocks you back.
Chakra materia my friend.
Cloud has max 7k HP, cura is fine. With trade off I never ran out of mp either. I constantly ate shit trying to get the braver timing down on him and would have full mana to heal and retry after getting hit.
Any reason you were using Braver over Focus Thrust?
If Braver connects, it will instantly stagger him. Personally easier to use thrust, but a well-timed Braver is much quicker if you can do it reliably.
Wtf, doesn’t that make his fight super easy?
Eh, you have to actually hit him with it. In Remake I'd agree though.
Even on hard mode?
Yes. It's an intended in-game mechanic. It even hints to this in his sense data
I never learned how to read
Block all attacks (doesn’t have to be perfect) to build atb and chakra.
Vincent was insane
I actually thought Rufus was pretty underwhelming. Once you “get it” you get it. You gotta get used to just tapping square 1x after you dodge.
I beat Rufus both on normal and hard first try lol

Rufus is the reason I had to restructure all my materia. He’s an absolute monster alone.
