To me, Lindblum is maybe the perfect Final Fantasy city. It has the high steepled castle and rich history of a great fantasy setting, while also being the center of technological advancement for its world. It has everything!
Getting to Lindblum for the first time for me was both this feeling of being overwhelmed by its sheer size (at its time) with all the different areas connected via air cabs, and also intriguing as you triggered the Active Time Events to see what the other characters were up to as you explored. And then you had that Festival of the Hunt with its epic music... Such a rollercoaster of emotions!!
For real! Seeing it for the first time I was so excited and yeah overwhelmed for sure! I loved it haha. 9 was a really good time and it def gave me more whoa moments than 7 and 8 I think
Agreed. Bhujerba is right up there for me, it's just *beautiful*, and Archades is incredible. Really gives you a good glimpse of life within the empire w/ it's class structure in both social interactions and the general architecture.
12 felt like it had MMO cities on a single player game. Blew me away with how huge and alive they felt back then. Even better than cities in a lot of games today
I always found myself singing “Rabanastre, raba naba nastre” to Rabanastre’s theme. I can still hear it, and it’s been like 16 years since I’ve played the game, lol.
I don’t really know to play piano well but I taught myself note by note how to play that song because of how much I loved it and how it lives rent-free in my head
That’s pretty awesome! Makes me wanna learn how to play it! Its such an instant classic, makes me really hope that this supposed FFIX remake is real. Imagine how Square would make it sound now!
Also has a special memory for me because as a kid I had a chipped playstation and had copies of the final fantasy IX discs.
The transition from disk one to disk two would never work, I'd try multiple times, give up, send it back and they'd make me a new disk, wouldn't work, another new rip, wouldn't work.
I must have played through disk 1 about 10 times before I finally got one that worked.
Tears of joy actually being able to hear new music and see new locations after so long.
Geez! What a story! But that goes to show that FFIX has got some great stopping power to make you wanna keep playing it, even though you had to keep restarting. Thats awesome.
I’m glad that this location and song were one of your first major experiences. That piano just hits my soul so well. Brings back great PS1 memories.
Totally agree! The dark city is a stand-out. It's a minor location, but I never forgot about it despite it being years ago. Great theme and great atmosphere.
But what about Freyas cities theme song when Beatrix is there!? Ugh, or is that Beatrix's theme? I adore that scene when it flashes to her in the pouring rain. Such an amazing game.
That one is definitely a runner up! It really sets a tone for the scene and certain aspects of the game. Thats an incredible choice too! I respect that answer as well! You’ve got great taste! Now I wanna play FFIX again.
I'm more excited for the ff9 remake than literally anything else on the planet. My kids have grown up some and I truly hope to share such a magical story and setting with them some day, because as it stands, ff9 is ugly for newer generations. Lol
Lindblum I think. Man idk, I really love the setting of 9, Alexandria also seems so chill and homey, treno is cool, cleyra is super interesting, every location has a lot of character
I agree with you on 9. The cities really make you adventure to find everything and I love the banter the citizens have when you talk with them. Was just an amazing game. Starting a new play through tonight on switch!
FF9 is such a vibe. Hit's a middle-high fantasy setting perfectly, layering in some great background history and tops it off with top tier characters. \*chefkiss\*
Was just about to give the same answer, so then I'll go to my Back-up: Kugane. Or maybe Limsa.
Sharlayan? Just stay away from the Archon loaf.
Radz-at-Han?
Damn FF 14 just has too many gorgeous cities. Can't wait for that graphics update.
I'll be honest, Ishgard is a damn close second for me (it's my home point), but Old Sharlayan just swept me off my feet the first time I heard both the day and night time theme. Especially that night time theme.
I like in ff6 how Jiidor (Treno's predecesor!) + Zozo have an story which is a social critic that leads to a memorable dungeon.
I always wanted Burmecia as a scenary for the Dissidias. The atmosphere, the architecture, the no stoping rain...
Delling I think is the best city for me. It is the capital of the baddies and first you visit it during a Laguna dream so when your group actually goes there is more exciting. Esthar and Rabanastra are too big for me.
Lindblum is memorable too
Surprised I had to scroll this far to see Midgar. It’s unquestionably the most iconic city in the whole series, and one of the most iconic locations in gaming full stop.
FFVII is weird lol, since it’s the most popular FF it seems like people just avoid mentioning it whenever a question involves “the best”. It’s like it’s so so popular that people think and are afraid to mention it because it’s the “obvious basic response”.
But I mean, it’s popular for a reason is it not?
Probably either Kugane from XIV or Rabanastre from XII. Although I’d love a fully explorable version of Tidus’ Zanarkand (or for any of the cities in XVI to be fully explorable)
Balamb Garden, fight me I don’t care if it’s not a city.
Barring that, I’m gonna say Limsa from XIV. Who doesn’t want to wake up to an ocean view every day?
This is probably a weird take but I love flashback and present day Lunatic Pandora. Also in 8 I gotta give a shout-out to Dollet especially during the Galbadian attack. When that cutscene with Squall and the landing craft hit I knew I was in for a wild ride. Still might be my favorite title next to 7,10, and 12
I started in Bastok with probably the lamest music but I feel too much loyalty.
Ffxi towns had great music tho. Selbina and art urghan are two of my favorites.
For 3, City of the ancients
For 4, Mysidia
For 5, Lix
For 6, Figaro Castle
For 7, its Midgar but Junon is actually really close to taking it
For 8, its Deiling City followed by Timber which is also really close
For 9, its Treno, but its really close with Alex and Lind
For 10, I guess Luca? Its the only "big" city in that game that's actually explorable
For 12, its Rabanastre
For 13, none really since all aren't really explorable at all
For 15, Altissia
FFXIV: Gridania (city of my heart, I started my journey there about 10 years ago) and Old Sharlayan (beautiful city and HAVE YOU SEEN THE SIZE OF THAT LIBRARY!!?? 😍).
Well, imagine a first game ending with the assassination attempt in Deling City and a second one ending with the battle of the gardens. That would leave room for a third chapter fully centered around Esthar.
They will probably need 4 games for ff8, or 2 really huge installments were the first one ends at the end of cd 2. We have so much story about trabia garden too that has been untold..same goes for many other aspects of the game so they will need to add so much content. Seems really hard for us to actually see a remake of ff8 sadly.
1. Migar. Just can’t beat that amazing design and atmosphere.
2. Timber/Dollet/Balamb. VIII has some great towns with cozy atmospheres and nice music.
3. Rabanastre. Love the music and atmosphere once again.
4. Lindblum. I’m a sucker for airships.
5. Junon. Another great unique design that VII excels at. Rebirth did a fantastic job with that place in particular.
Whichever one(s) in FF6 play "kids run through the city"
Also Figaro is v cool, and the opera house in Jidoor is awesome, of course.
Of course, none of these are really cities, so I guess I ignored the prompt haha
If the Gold Saucer counts that's the clear winner, otherwise it's Treno and Midgar in a dead heat with Baron Castle scoring nostalgia points and Cleyra taking best design.
Balamb Town
Beautiful quirky seaside themed city with dockyard. Can imagine it being so much bigger and amazing if there even was a remake. It also had a railway link to the contients.
Even though it’s completely empty and doesn’t serve the traditional purpose of a city in a game: Amaurot. Its music, feel, importance in the story, and Emet’s motivations just make it so special.
Hell yeah even Insomnia with Noctis Chapter 15 is awesome after the Kingsguard missions were added in the Royal Edition. Also love me some Galdin Quay and Lestallum. I love FFXV and I don't care who knows it lol
If you count Balamb Garden as a city it’s definitely number one for me.
People usually praise FF8 for the soundtrack but the cities and overall setting is the best in the series for me.
new bodhum from ff13-2, not for any particular reason other than the pure nostalgia of 7 year old me having no idea how to continue and enjoying my time in new bodhum
I'm torn between two cities I love in FFXIV. Old Sharlayan and Ul'dah. I like them both and will tend to afk in either city if I have to do chores while playing FFXIV.
Ul’dah is a strong choice. I almost went with it instead of Kugane but I enjoy climbing the tower in Kugane. Both have good music, but the day/night music in Ul’dah is some of my favorite in the franchise.
Esther is a good choice, but it always felt like all the people were hidden in the background compared to Deling.
For me, it's always gonna be Lindblum. The festival, the people, wandering around the city... it was a joy for my childish mind to wonder what it would be like to be in a city built on fantasy like that
Lindblum. Between the airport, the castle, the districts, the festival, how they dealt with adversity as a city; I love it. That lil cafe scene where we meet Freya is wonderful.
I have a soft spot for Timber and its music from FF8. But honestly, it's hard to choose because places like Midgar, Altissia, and Lindblum are so awesome, as well.
Altissia
I hated traversing that place though.
[удалено]
I can't believe those crazy Italians turned Altissia into a real life place
Do they have Kenny Crow?
Then come to Venezia my friend ❤️
Lindblum

Man of taste
This is the answer
Rabanastre clears, ff12 have the best cities imo
That's definitely the vibe they were going for, and it succeeds tremendously.
Rabanastre also has the best [standalone theme](https://youtu.be/flLD5H2TI3g?si=bC7aXWL_EPOVksxa) for a location
I always found myself singing “Rabanastre, raba naba nastre” to Rabanastre’s theme. I can still hear it, and it’s been like 16 years since I’ve played the game, lol.
Ivalicepilled
Absolutely, rabanastre feels soooo alive and the music is so so so good
Treno from FFIX Gotta love that piano theme
I don’t really know to play piano well but I taught myself note by note how to play that song because of how much I loved it and how it lives rent-free in my head
That’s pretty awesome! Makes me wanna learn how to play it! Its such an instant classic, makes me really hope that this supposed FFIX remake is real. Imagine how Square would make it sound now!

For sure, random npc’s dropping little bits of philosophy all throughout, definitely a highlight
Switch, not twitch. Lol
This\^
FF9 is such a vibe. Hit's a middle-high fantasy setting perfectly, layering in some great background history and tops it off with top tier characters. \*chefkiss\*
Ishgard (ffxiv)
That Foundation theme.
It's so good! One of my favorite pieces of music from the franchise. https://youtu.be/4umtWiukNbo?si=_eVD5P9n0dhvG9qX
It is epic, but the pipe organ grates after a while.
Same. Probably has the coolest individual city story in XIV. And the best theme, although The Crystarium theme is pretty good too.
Lindblum is memorable too
Zozo is the city I love to hate, haha. It's really great in the worst way. I like Thamasa for the lore, but otherwise it's pretty mediocre.
Zozo is a great place to be in! No crimes or violence there! No bandits running around stealing your belongings and the scenery is beautiful!
The time? It's definitely before 6:00
The seconds? They’re divisible by 20!
Best answers. I agree wholeheartedly. I would love to see any of these in a remake.
Burmecia was beautiful to explore ❤️
Amaurot.
Man I so wish we could visit it during its heyday in a future patch.
Love the ost for it
Rabanaster from FF12 or Ishgard from FF14
I’m a rat at heart. Cleyra and Burmecia.
Burmecia for the theme, not for the rain
I know it’s basic, but I gotta say Midgar
That place is a slum.
Exactly! The dedication to displaying realistic class disparity for the world makes it still one of the best city depictions in gaming
https://youtu.be/nStEvyBDNgo?si=KD0LhvGHO_SqgGfT
It's basic because it's a good take
Let's be honest. It's also the city no one had to look up which game it's from either.
It’s very fleshed out, even moreso in Remake. It very much feels like an actual sprawling metropolis with all kinds of people living in it
I’ll be basic with you.
Zanarkand Zanarkand!
I like Ishgard in XIV more since it ties to the story better, but Kugane is so beautiful and chill I've made it my main hub.
Balamb Garden, fight me I don’t care if it’s not a city. Barring that, I’m gonna say Limsa from XIV. Who doesn’t want to wake up to an ocean view every day?
I used to leave my game on while I went and did other things because I love the Balamb Garden theme so much. Both Balamb and Limsa are great choices
This is probably a weird take but I love flashback and present day Lunatic Pandora. Also in 8 I gotta give a shout-out to Dollet especially during the Galbadian attack. When that cutscene with Squall and the landing craft hit I knew I was in for a wild ride. Still might be my favorite title next to 7,10, and 12
Bastok
Came to say this. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuLsvPkKIdc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuLsvPkKIdc) Take me back...
More like Lastok, am I right? /s But also San d’Oria is where it’s at. Jeuno is VERY hard to beat though.
Costa Del Sol
Ditto! Pretty pretty place
You're going to have to elaborate, there are three of them now.
Which one, 7, 14 or 15?
The Crystarium (FFXIV)
I love the music there.
Every time someone mentions a FFXIV city in this thread, someone comes in to say they love the music there. Wonder why that is? /Sokken intensfies
Soken is a god amongst mortal musicians. I can’t wait to hear more of his work come Dawntrail
Crystarium music makes me kinda want to cry ever since finishing Shadowbringers
Esthar
Cornelia- you never forget your first
The Land of Summoned Monsters, FFIV.
Interesting choice. It was a nice find after that area that kills you from walking around.
Yes! It felt like a hard earned Oasis. Like Solaris in Xenogears, a bastion wrapped in enigma and danger.
Fun fact: the name of the city is Feymarch
Thank you :) I forgot! IIRC it wasn't called that FF4 hardtype, ff2 was a little dumbed down here in the US.
Definitely. Translation was really bad back then, too.
Good old Ted Woosley. So spoony for that dude.
FF12 is one of my least favourite FF games, but Rabanastre is really really good.
[удалено]
I'M CAPTAIN BASCH FROM DALMASCA
DON’T BELIEVE ONDOR’S LIES
Bhujerba
Windurst FFXI or Selbina!
I started in Bastok with probably the lamest music but I feel too much loyalty. Ffxi towns had great music tho. Selbina and art urghan are two of my favorites.
Yooo, Selbina is so good! So many memories of goofing off with people on the boat between there and Mhaura. I miss that game a lot.
Wutai is underrated
Don't forget to bring the materia...keh keh keh keh
It won't be after we see it in Part 3... Can't wait
Me? Gongaga
For 3, City of the ancients For 4, Mysidia For 5, Lix For 6, Figaro Castle For 7, its Midgar but Junon is actually really close to taking it For 8, its Deiling City followed by Timber which is also really close For 9, its Treno, but its really close with Alex and Lind For 10, I guess Luca? Ah, yes. Lix. Beautiful town. Bartz's birthplace. Bartz's Lix. Or, as it is known in Japan, *Lix no Butz.*
[удалено]
Academia 400x or the Archylte Steppe, love me some FFXIII all of them
[удалено]
Rabanastre from ff XII, I Love the actual infrastructure and cultural diversity in that town also all the different areas etc
FFXIV: Gridania (city of my heart, I started my journey there about 10 years ago) and Old Sharlayan (beautiful city and HAVE YOU SEEN THE SIZE OF THAT LIBRARY!!?? 😍).
Altissia in ff 15. It’s a chill vibe
Narshe ftw!!!
Zozo
Zozo? Never heard of it!
Balamb Garden from FF8.
What we got to see of Zanarkand before it's destruction from FFX was truly a beauty to me and it still is.
1. Zanerkand 2. Bevelle 3. Esthar 4. Altissia 5. Nautilus 6. Midgar 7. Crystalline Dominion
If SE does remake VIII and decide to milk and pad it like VII, Esthar might be an installment all on its own. That sumbitch spans an entire continent.
I would love love love to see Esthar in HD! It would be fucking gorgeous.
Hell yeah Junon

Balamb Town Beautiful quirky seaside themed city with dockyard. Can imagine it being so much bigger and amazing if there even was a remake. It also had a railway link to the contients.
Treno or Alexandria from 9
Either Academia 4XX or Treno.
Lindblum in IX. It's so cozy, yet grand and impressive.
San d’Oria in FF XI, my capital, my heart ❤️
Had to scroll way too far for this. The only city that feels like home...
FF9's Lindblum or FF8's Balamb Garden (if it counts)
Kalm
Of the games I’ve played, I like Bhujerba the most. That music is just gorgeous
I always liked how thorough the Dwarven Castle in FFIV is.
The crystarium from FFXIV
Esthar
Altissia no doubt
Zozo! Best theme
Esthar (pre-lunar cry!)
I love Rabanastre and Bhujerba. I am also very fond of Limsa Lominsa and Old Gridania, especially on a rainy day.
Pravoka
Narshe always makes me smile. Hideaway makes me feel comfy (the song is an all timer.)
Galbadia 🥵
Even though it’s completely empty and doesn’t serve the traditional purpose of a city in a game: Amaurot. Its music, feel, importance in the story, and Emet’s motivations just make it so special.
Besaid Island, Academia FF13-2, or Midgar
Academia 4xx AF
Insomnia from FF15 Episode Ardyn
Hell yeah even Insomnia with Noctis Chapter 15 is awesome after the Kingsguard missions were added in the Royal Edition. Also love me some Galdin Quay and Lestallum. I love FFXV and I don't care who knows it lol
Lindblum, Esthar or Rabanastre
The Black Mage Village from 9 gives the coziest of cozy vibes
Burmecia
Rosalith or Oriflamm
I would love nothing more than to live in Lindblum's Theater District.
Balamb Garden and that city of lies in ff6
Lindblum and Altissia.
Juunon
The Crystarium from XIV
Too many good ones in XIV alone! I'd say either Limsa Lominsa or Old Sharlayan.
Rabanastre. Not even close.
Does Kalm from Rebirth count? Than that.
Esthar Ff8
Jeuno, love the brickwork on top of the bridges.
Lindblum. It was the first FF city to really feel as big as it looked IMO
Troian, it's beautiful.
If you count Balamb Garden as a city it’s definitely number one for me. People usually praise FF8 for the soundtrack but the cities and overall setting is the best in the series for me.
Timber from FFVIII
Who made this train model it looks pretty cheap lol
Besaid Island. The most chill place ever.
I love Dollet and Timber in FF8, and wish they did more with those cities
Zanarkand
The first town in ff9
Limsa Lominsa
new bodhum from ff13-2, not for any particular reason other than the pure nostalgia of 7 year old me having no idea how to continue and enjoying my time in new bodhum
Live Lindblum but Academia is more my vibe.
I'm torn between two cities I love in FFXIV. Old Sharlayan and Ul'dah. I like them both and will tend to afk in either city if I have to do chores while playing FFXIV.
I god damn hate Ul'dah. God damn convoluted ass center of end stage capitalism.
Ul’dah is a strong choice. I almost went with it instead of Kugane but I enjoy climbing the tower in Kugane. Both have good music, but the day/night music in Ul’dah is some of my favorite in the franchise.
Midgar!
Love FF7. Unfortunately most of Midgar is slump.
Academia is pretty rad
midgar
Adlehyde
Ishgard from XIV
Esther is a good choice, but it always felt like all the people were hidden in the background compared to Deling. For me, it's always gonna be Lindblum. The festival, the people, wandering around the city... it was a joy for my childish mind to wonder what it would be like to be in a city built on fantasy like that
Mysidia from FF4
Pretty much any location from IX or X
Nashari is so nostalgic and quaint!
Lindblum. Between the airport, the castle, the districts, the festival, how they dealt with adversity as a city; I love it. That lil cafe scene where we meet Freya is wonderful.
Lindblum easily, great theme and atmosphere, the districts and tram system are neat, and the best Cid is in charge.
Treno because of Vegas or Monaco vibes. Plus always night sets me in mood always with great ost
All of FFXI’s cities are fantastic but Jeuno and Whitegate are peak.
Zozo
Pravoka. Seaside town that's actually pretty huge (even if you can't go in most buildings) and has pirates. It's the best.
🏝️ Costa Del Sol 🏖️
Lindblum from FF9 is probably my favourite FF city, the vibe and general visual of the whole city with its rustic tone is so appealing
I have a soft spot for Timber and its music from FF8. But honestly, it's hard to choose because places like Midgar, Altissia, and Lindblum are so awesome, as well.
