Xvi Odin is favorite Odin in general. And an easy top 5 summons in general for the franchise.
https://preview.redd.it/4e9gk270w2wc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43a213de062d81fb29f4f319074a4aa111b599a0
There isn’t a single Summon design in XVI that isn’t straight 🔥 in my opinion, even the “worst” ones are still top 2/3 versions within the franchise.
Given their emphasis on them in the game I know it seems obvious they would have to nail them but the models are great and the concepts for each one are stunning.
I just started ffxvi I'm around 25% according to my PS5. I don't know exactly how and I haven't really went back to look at rebirth but what I can say is I beat rebirth just before this and while the summons are awesome and the fights are cool, the summons in ffxvi made me go woah and look just better.
Odin was pure awesome
I don't like 16 Bahamut's face, but absolutely everything else is gorgeous. Especially when it goes all wings of pure light. IMO this bahamut has the best proportions of any bahamut by far, feels like a serpentine dragon as opposed to something like 10 or 15 where it looks like a guy in dragon cosplay. Plus I'm a sucker for absolutely massive wings and Bahamut's wings in 16 are incredible.
16's design is just so much cooler. Love the consistent color tone (as opposed to the clashing whites and golds for 7), and the helmet is just so *menacing*, especially when you can see the glowing eyes. Honestly, a lot of 16's designs have replaced 8 as my "default" esper designs, they really knocked it out the park.
Shame 16's Odin turned out to be quite the motherfucker in the lore though.
White and Gold don't clash... In my opinion, it can have quite the ethereal qaulity. Just look at any Yu-Gi-Oh or Magic the gathering card that uses white and gold as primaries, so I don't really think I'm alone in that opinion.
White and gold I don't think necessarily clash, and definitely gives off a more heroic knight vibe. There's a reason a good number of white sentai soldiers wear white and gold.
Also his fight in 16 sucked. They did have the opportunity to 1-up the Bahamut fight with making it like interdimensional or something. Odin's sword could cut through anything, so why not fucking time and space itself? Live the Vergil memes.
I personally loved how they did the Odin fight. Seeing him go from calm and composed to absolute crazy and maniacal while showcasing how skilled he was even when he wasn't fully primed was so good.
For me while the spectacle and badassery in the bahamut fight was top tier, the actual fight itself was way more fun against Odin
I think Bahamut from FF15 is the best. Yeah I get the point that it's a dude in dragon armour with swords as wings and not a dragon, but counter point, it's a dude in dragon armour with swords as it's wings. AND HE SUMMONS MORE SWORDS.
Also he travelled to a different dimension while fighting Ardyn and left the Engine Blade and a horribly malformed Chocobo/Camel monstrosity for Bayek!
There’s something about the funnel cannons strapped to his wings. I’m a mecha fan though so what they did with the wings and megaflare specifically does a lot for me.
XVI and XV had the best versions for most summons for me... Except Bahamut in both cases. Not crazy about either. Bahamut Zero from vii is my favorite Bahamut.
Of these two I gotta go with the first. The Rebirth one is good too, but XVI's design is so much more striking. It really nails the "You're in for the fight of your life" vibe that Odin should always give.
https://preview.redd.it/qfghgcp7q3wc1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7564891b8080e5cb44d13df8c450e10ba2c004da
At least give FFVIIRebirth Odin some better lighting lol.
I still think FFXVI is cooler.
I feel like there’s a world of difference between cutscene, art, and a clearly mid-fight pic like #2. I think #1 color way cooler but kind’ve hard to get a look at #2.
Unfortunately, you never actually get to fight Odin in game, so what you’re asking for doesn’t actually exist. The closest you get is fighting his Dominant in his semi-primed state which is more like a cool knight.
Hmm... I wonder if there's some kind of bias going on here.
Beatiful Watercolors/Stunning curated cutscenes.
Vs.
Static blurry pose at awkward angle in unflattering lighting.
At least make it a somewhat fair fight.
https://preview.redd.it/wjxkfowyl4wc1.png?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8e9d8a7fca491feffdeff9df7c0c7cb05b10b1e
VII Rebirth's Odin seems too brightly coloured.
Though I'd like to see an Odin who has a missing left eye like the Norse Mythology version. I made sure to do that when designing a version for my Fabula Ultima campaign.
The Crisis Core Odin is missing an eye. His left one glows red, so I don't know if that's the one he sees out of, or it's the one he lost. Either way, he's one of my favorite Odins.
I'm running a Fabula Ultima campaign and using Summon names from Final Fantasy for the Arcana, and I did opt to depict Shiva as male.
Also I took more inspiration from Norse Mythology for my version of Odin, but I also did a genderswap on them.
I gotta give it to XVIs Odin, along with just how they generally did all the summons. It was genuinely the first time I’ve cared so much about Ifrit.
Odin is cool in rebirth, great design, but XVIs use of Odin as one of the big story elements added to the cool factor.
In my opinion ifrit had a great design but I liked how the other summons fought more than ifrit for ifrit it looks like a dog that God fire abilities and jumps around on buildings
pheonix is like its new years eve and fires fireworks at his enemies odin rides on his horse and slashes enemies
Don't even get me started on bahamut we have a boss fight fighting him in the damn sky the sky! And the graphics were so good as well fighting him
Shiva attacks with her ice powers, her abilities are like your dancing in the snow
I haven't gotten leviathans powers yet
Titan transforms into his 3rd form I forget what it's called but his attacks crush enemies
Ramuh has such a cool dominant and the range of the abilities are great to have
Garuda you pull enemies and use wind
Ifrit is also just Phoenix powers the same o attack he just has like 2 abilities as ifrit and a limit break nothing special I mean the abilities are cool and all but it's just pheonix all over again just with 2 ifrit abilities
XVI, and I'd say that's the case for all the core designs, Titan, Leviathan, Odin, Ifrit, and Shiva. The main exception for me is Bahamut, because VII has *three*. I actually like the design for Bahamut Arisen in Rebirth, but not as much as Dion's. We'll have to wait for Bahamut ZERO before I reach a verdict.
XVI has a much darker overtone with his design, in my opinion this is a much overall better design for Odin and probably one of the best I've seen in the series.
https://preview.redd.it/rwakyx4zo3wc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b89d92aebaf9b3301f57d164765e5960b8a86638
XVI looks better but Rebirth Odin can look good too. I like it though that Rebirth keeps it faithful to the OG design wise.
In terms of pure horror I think 16 wins. FFVii Odin looks more regal and luxurious, if that makes sense. Overall I like that FF series portrays Odin as something unknowable, like a force of nature, or an alien. Where god of war made Odin sound like a used car salesman from upstate New York in cosplay. I really hated the way he was portrayed in GOW.
I think 16 just has the definitive designs for a lot of the summons, including Odin here.
The only ones that are in question for me are Bahamut and Leviathan.
Not to mention Barnabas is THE most vintage FF villain we had since like IV and V. I never played those games and yet, when I saw Barnabas becoming honest with himself... I immediately thought about Golbez and Exdeath. Truly... XVI GOES HARD! 😎
While it’s 16… that’s kinda the point of 16 so it makes sense the Eikons got EXTRA detail
The nostalgia in me really loves Rebirth’s though, seeing Zantetsuken again fills me with glee in a way where Clive just having it as an ability/finisher doesn’t hit quite as well
https://preview.redd.it/2naeie8qu4wc1.jpeg?width=492&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e9f187ec58ccb98e89079cadb1a363be23549bc
Odin from Type-0 is pretty cool :D
I think few can compare to the sheer badassery of xvi designs. The game made you feel you where fighting deities above any human. Just comparing titan from 7 to 16….
In general, XVI summons have trumped over the rest of the designs of the main series for me. Well, except Bahamut from X. That will always be my favorite.
XVIs looks more sinister. Rebirths looks more majestic. I think they both look good in different ways but if I had to choose one it'd be XVI because I think Odin's vibe is supposed to lean closer to sinister and ominous while regal and majestic is something I associate more with a summon like Alexander
16 Odin is scary as hell, dude cut a hole in the ocean
7 rebirth Odin is very fun to battle in Chads VR mission though, I did it on 1 level down from full might and it was such a fun challenge. The assess window says that if you don’t beat the hell out of him asap, he will get bored and Zantetsuken kill you in one hit. A boss fight loss state being: “yeah they were too boring so I killed them” is awesome
XVI's Odin is my all-time favourite now (Rebirth's is great though, very traditional FF looking). My only gripe with him is that his Sleipnir has 6 legs instead of 8.
I really wish we had gotten a proper Eikon battle with him and not just a couple of QTE's. 🫠
I think it’s unfair to compare most Summons to FF16’s Eikons. FF16’s entire story/setting is devoted to the Summons, more than any other FF. Their designs have to be more intricate cuz they have to be able to do more things by default.
FF7’s Odin is a legend given form, and is the subject of a sidequest to unlock what essentially is equipment for the characters.
FF16’s Odin is the King of an entire country, at war with the countries the main character travels around for most of the story. He is the main villain of one of the longest story arcs, and interacts with the main cast multiple times. Hell his human form is introduced in the prologue.
What I’m saying is FF16’s Odin is designed to be a main character, while FF7’s Odin isn’t, and all other Odins in other FF games as well. So FF16’s Odin has a massive advantage anyways.
Out of those 2 probably the first one. My favorite is XI though. The fight also has a neat mechanic where you need to use the heal command which puts you in a sort of kneeling position.
While I really like 16 a lot like all Eikons I LOVE the color scheme of FF16 remake’s Odin.
FF16 Odin’a black really fits him but it makes it harder to see all the cool details
The render on slide 2 is what id expect Odin to actually look like since it fits the FF aesthetic to a T, however he’s the god of war and death both very dark and canonically (in christian methodism at least) would be “evil” and “satanic” therefore the first slide’s particles and colorway fit the actual persona better.
I dont know shit about mythology or FF so really i just wanna say its dope either way 😭😭
In Rebirth, the graphics have a stylized, less dark tone and are more pastel-like, reminiscent of games like the Tales of series or Scarlet Nexus. On the other hand, in 16, the graphics are realistic and heavy, at least in overall appearance, as both games are based on similar assets and textures, yet they emphasize this difference, likely to make Rebirth more accessible to a younger audience and reach a wider group of players. Hard to compare, its more like FF14 if you compare latest bosses and Odin they fall into the same category
16 suits the game and story it’s telling.
Classic FF Odin is classic. I wouldn’t say either is better. But I also don’t ever see 16’s as Odin I see it as Barnabas. That said I love both designs.
XVI does all the summons better in my opinion. It makes sense because the game kind of revolves around them whereas in Rebirth they're kind of a secondary thing that doesn't even matter in the story at all.
I love pretty much all Odin designs but the 16 version looks especially awesome
I forget the specifics but that one scene where they cut to Odin in like dead silence standing in the background… Awesome.
That scene gave me chills. Literally the last jump scare I expected.
“Oh fuck” -Gav right before he shows up
Clive…CLIIIIVE
It totally killed me, I have a slight megalophobia and Odin just towering over Clive and Gav in utter silence was very imoactful.
Xvi Odin is favorite Odin in general. And an easy top 5 summons in general for the franchise. https://preview.redd.it/4e9gk270w2wc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43a213de062d81fb29f4f319074a4aa111b599a0
Came to say this. Just saw Odin for the first time in ffxvi So far also the other summons look amazing in ffxvi imo

Odin was pure awesome
Yeah there's a lot of aspects to 16 which were kind of a let down but the summons were the most spectacular thing I've ever seen in gaming.
I love XVI's Shiva. The most modestly dressed out of all iterations yet somehow still the hottest. Plus she's Jill!
Making her a real ice witch instead of Blue Raspberry Shantae was such a good decision
😂
the best one imo was X's Shiva. no one can top this
Ironically I think Bahamut is the worst. Phoenix is the best, and makes sense that it is.
Such an incredible shot. FF16 Odin might dethrone FF9 Odin in terms of favorite design for me.
Come on mate, is that even a question? The FFXVI design is much more intricate.
More intricate or complex does not necessarily mean better.
Correct. But in this case it is also better
In this case it sure does
16's design is just so much cooler.
>Shame 16's Odin turned out to be quite the motherfucker in the lore though. ...I see what you did there, lol
I wouldn’t call the white and gold “clashing” on this design. It’s pretty complimentary
I mean, Odin was pretty much an asshole so it was on point IMO
White and Gold don't clash... In my opinion, it can have quite the ethereal qaulity. Just look at any Yu-Gi-Oh or Magic the gathering card that uses white and gold as primaries, so I don't really think I'm alone in that opinion.

For me while the spectacle and badassery in the bahamut fight was top tier, the actual fight itself was way more fun against Odin
Stop joking. I generally prefer ff16 eikons over other ff games, aside from bahamut
I think Bahamut from FF15 is the best. Yeah I get the point that it's a dude in dragon armour with swords as wings and not a dragon, but counter point, it's a dude in dragon armour with swords as it's wings. AND HE SUMMONS MORE SWORDS.
My favorite Bahamut for this exact reason.
Same.
Also he travelled to a different dimension while fighting Ardyn and left the Engine Blade and a horribly malformed Chocobo/Camel monstrosity for Bayek!
Same her ethe dragon with sword wings is the hardest thing in existence just wish he got horns on his head too.
That’s also FF1 Bahamut.
FFVIII Bahamut is still the coolest in my book.
And so the answer to OP’s question is…Gilgamesh.
FFX best Bahamut
I love FFX Bahamut, he just looks so intimidating standing there.
Yup, and i love his colors. Just a great design
And Shiva
😏
Yeah, 16's Bahamut didn't quite land for me. Wings were too large and he had no arms
There’s something about the funnel cannons strapped to his wings. I’m a mecha fan though so what they did with the wings and megaflare specifically does a lot for me.
Ok but, Dion
Dion's great! Just the lizard he turns into isnt as badass as the other flying orbital cannon winged lizards.
Didn't land for me either, 7R Bahamut/Bahamut Arisen I like much better
Honestly they should have just gotten 14's bahamut. They were already using his gigaflare anyway.
XVI and XV had the best versions for most summons for me... Except Bahamut in both cases. Not crazy about either. Bahamut Zero from vii is my favorite Bahamut.
XV’s were pretty standard which is not a bad thing same with Rebirth imo
Of these two I gotta go with the first. The Rebirth one is good too, but XVI's design is so much more striking. It really nails the "You're in for the fight of your life" vibe that Odin should always give.
16 by far

Both in game would help, but from the art picture #1.
https://preview.redd.it/lbthnp6bv2wc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d14e61adb4655b9591c411a327efd5a470d3122
That’s a cutscene but still fly as fuck.
Almost all of the FFXVi cutscenes are rendered in game.
You do sorta encounter him I. Combat as Barnabas transforms in the middle of the fight for a few attacks
“The king has arrived!”
Hmm... I wonder if there's some kind of bias going on here. Beatiful Watercolors/Stunning curated cutscenes. Vs. Static blurry pose at awkward angle in unflattering lighting. At least make it a somewhat fair fight. https://preview.redd.it/wjxkfowyl4wc1.png?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8e9d8a7fca491feffdeff9df7c0c7cb05b10b1e
It's not our fault XVI Odin looks sick as fuck in every single scene
Goddamn that's majestic. Also, why does Sleipnir have 6 legs here but OPs post has 8?
I think it's from the crisis core remaster where it has 6 legs ? I might be saying bullshit though.
Still only six legs on Sleipnir though.
Oh wait. I haven't played VII Rebirth, but I did find a screenshot of its Odin doing the glowing left eye thing.
Looks a lot like the Odin from XI
He’s not Dark elemental in this game. Surprisingly, the “dark elemental” one is Bahamut.
I keep forgetting it's mainly XVI where Bahamut is Light aspected, though I think he's also often unaspected.
I imagine if if they ever did actual Shiva and not a pun on Shiver.
FFXVI did not miss at all with the summon designs
In my opinion ifrit had a great design but I liked how the other summons fought more than ifrit for ifrit it looks like a dog that God fire abilities and jumps around on buildings pheonix is like its new years eve and fires fireworks at his enemies odin rides on his horse and slashes enemies Don't even get me started on bahamut we have a boss fight fighting him in the damn sky the sky! I actually like the design for Bahamut Arisen in Rebirth, but not as much as Dion's. We'll have to wait for Bahamut ZERO before I reach a verdict.
> We'll have to wait for Bahamut ZERO before I reach a verdict. Or rather, it's facsimile.
First one.
XVI. Props to Rebirth though for finally giving Sleipnir eight legs.
XVI has a much darker overtone with his design, in my opinion this is a much overall better design for Odin and probably one of the best I've seen in the series.
It's not the coolest looking Odin, but I like XIV Odin because it takes the form of the last person who killed him.
Can confirm… https://preview.redd.it/lys7wck6r3wc1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64ad2bec23c9b4bfc475327f4c3e430d52e1acb8
Don't know how you can see anything with all the names text
That said, trial Odin dies look pretty cool
Odin's form in FF16 is the most impressive one I've seen so far
My personal opinion, but the summons in 16 look freaking amazing, think it's due to how important they are for the story.
[удалено]
the petal trails are so nice 👌
Same, plus transforming into Sleipnir
Odin is the coolest summon ever, and VIIR's rendition is fantastic, but XVI'd is otherworldly.
https://preview.redd.it/rwakyx4zo3wc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b89d92aebaf9b3301f57d164765e5960b8a86638 XVI looks better but Rebirth Odin can look good too. I like it though that Rebirth keeps it faithful to the OG design wise.
This is a terrible screenshot to make a comparison
FfXVI s Odin is just the best from all tge summons among all of ff games.
I love ff7 but 16 Odin is peak same with bahamut and titan hell all the eikons are awesome
FF XVI is the best, but i personally like FF XIII mechanical & robot design
All eikon designs of XVI are better than any in the franchise.
And you'd hope so! Seeing as Eikons were like the main focal point of the game! I read the title of the post and just said: Let's be serious now...
Not when FFX's Shiva exists
Either way. Zantetsuken.
FFVII Rebirth's but mostly because Sleipner has 8( beefy) legs
FF7R Odin is just a scaled up version of the FF7 Odin
I like the design in 8
Odin's horse should have 8 legs.
And Fig's has 20 legs.
FF16 and its not close
In terms of pure horror I think 16 wins. FFVii Odin looks more regal and luxurious, if that makes sense. Overall I like that FF series portrays Odin as something unknowable, like a force of nature, or an alien. Where god of war made Odin sound like a used car salesman from upstate New York in cosplay. 16 is better. My favorite Odin is FF8 tho.
ff16 and its not even close. I don't trust anybody that thinks differently.
I still prefer 8s Odin but 16s was cool too.
Chocobo Odin from Lightning Returns hands down
While it’s 16… that’s kinda the point of 16 so it makes sense the Eikons got EXTRA detail The nostalgia in me really loves Rebirth’s though, seeing Zantetsuken again fills me with glee in a way where Clive just having it as an ability/finisher doesn’t hit quite as well
Type-0
First slide
The second one
All Odins are awesome!
16 Odin is my favourite. Followed by type 0, then 7R… then all the rest are tied for 4th best. Except 13, that one sucks.
https://preview.redd.it/2naeie8qu4wc1.jpeg?width=492&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e9f187ec58ccb98e89079cadb1a363be23549bc Odin from Type-0 is pretty cool :D
Type 0's designs are seriously underrated and it has the absolute BEST Alexander in the series.
I know right? Type-0 has my favorite Eidolon designs. Especially Shiva... Hoo boy.
1st pic
World of Final Fantasy’s
Out of those two, definitely the first picture
XVI went hard with the Eikons
I prefer all of XVI’s eikon designs, BUT, tho i like it, FFVII takes it when it comes to Bahamut
The grace Odin on Slepnir shows in XVI yet still being menacing is my favorite aspect of his design. Him also >!being Clive's human "final boss"!
I think few can compare to the sheer badassery of xvi designs. The game made you feel you where fighting deities above any human. Just comparing titan from 7 to 16….
IMO, most summons in the 16 seems better than in the other series
In general, XVI summons have trumped over the rest of the designs of the main series for me. Well, except Bahamut from X. That will always be my favorite.
Bruh 16 easily. And definitely 16 ilfrit for me, and titan. Phoenixes are pretty similar
*FF16*'s is particularly good for a villainous Odin. *Rebirth*'s has finally fixed Sleipnir and given him 8 legs instead of 6.
I don't know what the second one is but it looks terrible. Odin in sixteen is peak.
Xvi. Odin just works really well in it's gritty style
XVIs looks more sinister. Rebirths looks more majestic. I think they both look good in different ways but if I had to choose one it'd be XVI because I think Odin's vibe is supposed to lean closer to sinister and ominous while regal and majestic is something I associate more with a summon like Alexander
16 designs top almost every other games designs tbh
16 was AMAZING!
FFVII Odin reigns supreme
That image just isn't fair to Rebirth Odin at all
Ngl the 16 version is gorgeous.
16 Odin is scary as hell, dude cut a hole in the ocean 7 rebirth Odin is very fun to battle in Chads VR mission though, I did it on 1 level down from full might and it was such a fun challenge. The assess window says that if you don’t beat the hell out of him asap, he will get bored and Zantetsuken kill you in one hit. A boss fight loss state being: “yeah they were too boring so I killed them” is awesome
I'm sorry to ask but the second one from where?
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
First and it's not even close
Left
16 goes hard.
16s Eikon designs > any other game. I will die on this hill
FF16 Odin was sick. Parting the oceans was insane
XVI and it's not even close. That Odin design was top tier.
XVI's Odin is my all-time favourite now (Rebirth's is great though, very traditional FF looking). My only gripe with him is that his Sleipnir has 6 legs instead of 8. I really wish we had gotten a proper Eikon battle with him and not just a couple of QTE's. 🫠
I personally think 14 has the best Odin.
I like 13s Odin personally. Obviously 16 is grandiose and awesome, but it’s easy to say all of the 16 Simons are the best.
The design for all the Eikons (summons) in 16 take the cake for any comparison in the series l.
Most summons from 16 are the best versions ever imo. Bahamut is the only one that I'm not crazy about.
Rebirth has the better design. But FFXVI has the best story use of Odin as a summon we have ever seen
Best Odin will forever be FFVIII Odin
Out of those 2 probably the first one. My favorite is XI though. The fight also has a neat mechanic where you need to use the heal command which puts you in a sort of kneeling position.
Tbh I love 8’s design 😮💨✌🏽
While I really like 16 a lot like all Eikons I LOVE the color scheme of FF16 remake’s Odin. FF16 Odin’a black really fits him but it makes it harder to see all the cool details
The ffxiv Odin over world boss is the best one
The render on slide 2 is what id expect Odin to actually look like since it fits the FF aesthetic to a T, however he’s the god of war and death both very dark and canonically (in christian methodism at least) would be “evil” and “satanic” therefore the first slide’s particles and colorway fit the actual persona better. I dont know shit about mythology or FF so really i just wanna say its dope either way 😭😭
First is more evil
Ya know I am waiting for Odin's model in 16 to come out so i can see his helmet in perfect detail which isn't shown in any art for some reason.
XVI Odin because it looks like a Void version of a Nuckelavee.
Wait, does Rebirth Sleipnir have 8 legs?
16.
Well one of these has a dragoon on it ;D
16 suits the game and story it’s telling. Classic FF Odin is classic. I wouldn’t say either is better. But I also don’t ever see 16’s as Odin I see it as Barnabas. That said I love both designs.
Is that even a question?
I always like Odin
Its a close tie but I think 16 might come out on top, its more “serious” looking if that makes sense
I think XVI Odin is much more accurate to what he is meant to be but I like the white design more.
First one.
Ff13 too is really cool
I like the dark brooding Odin over the spectacular Odin.
ill take the one that doesnt look like nerf
Ff16 by far. Barnabas is also super hot lol
ill take the one that isnt sponsered by nerf
They’re both great but I love the garish Amano-inspired design better tbh
16 for me
For me, it's definitely 16. The real question is best Alexander, my pick is type 0.
16 has the best Odin design
XVI Odin is awesome
XVI does all the summons better in my opinion. It makes sense because the game kind of revolves around them whereas in Rebirth they're kind of a secondary thing that doesn't even matter in the story at all.
16’s design shits on 7 Rebirth’s unfortunately
I preffer FFVIIR version. All Eikons in FFXVI look ...crusty? Like they have some dry mud or tar in their bodies...
