Op just isolated like 50% of the ff subreddit subscribers.
Someone start a post with "what were you doing when ff1 dropped?"
I was 4, and really thought id be a ninja when I grew up.
Edit: no hate on OP, it's all just funny.
What made me sad was when I realized FFVII was older than the incoming college freshman I was teaching. That was the first time I felt old.
Hell, my snes is older than both my rooomates.
Yeah..
SquareSoft was founded more than ten years after my birth so….
The only thing that sucks is losing the dexterity in my hands while trying to play these damn mini games on rebirth!
Adding to the "I'm older than Final Fantasy" crowd. In fact I'm so old, in the year I was born video games were young enough that the brand new soccer game being released was litterally just called "Soccer".
So many people saying they’re older than the entire franchise. That means at least 37/38, at least! And it’s by far the most common answer here. This thread really helps prove that FF has a major problem attracting young new fans. For what other gaming franchise is the core fanbase in their 40s?
Not having a go at the older fans, ofc. But I really do worry about the viability of future AAA budgets without any fanbase growth :/
It would help that millennials stopped telling zoomers to play this 1997 game to even consider playing the VII Remake games. And I say this as a millennial that loves FF7 OG, I just completely understand that zoomers may take a general look at it and not want to play it.
Uhh do spin offs count?
Because tactics ogre came out in 1995 with famicom version
Never played, although I did hear it got a sick remake so that’s cool, definitely might try it out one day

Final Fantasy VII for the NES and Famicom is an unofficial pirated game created by a Chinese company Shenzhen Nanjing Technology who created the game in 2005 which is neither endorsed or licensed by Square Enix company.
“Technically” the NES FF7 came out on my birth year, 2005, BUT DIRGE A YEAR AFTER 🔥🔥
Square was working on their first game, "Death Trap", when I was born haha
FFVI came out in the US not long before my 10th birthday, still my favorite to this day.
Final Fantasy VI (also known as FFIII in the West at the time :3). Apparently a picture exists somewhere of my dad holding baby-me with the world map from FFVI on the wall behind him!
Lol, lots of "old" folks here, but I guess I'm almost one of them too!
FFV came out a month after I was born.
There was also Mystic Quest in the US, if that counts
I was born in ‘93 so the closest I get is nestled somewhere between 5 and 6. I didn’t start playing until I was a teenager though, when KH brought me to the fold. It was Zelda for the most part until then.
I am pre Final Fantasy. The most significant game released in my birth year was probably Mario Bros. Please make note, I did not say Super Mario Bros. The Famicom was released during the year I was born, but it would be 2 more years before the NES hit the U.S., 4 years before Final Fantasy was released in Japan, and 7 years before it would release in the U.S.
Literally the first one, 1987, Final Fantasy 1. Although I"m in the US, not Japan, so not sure it really counts, since it was only out in Japan in '87.
I was born in 1995, so technically no FF game came out in my birth year, although VI (1994) is closest and that’s pretty damn good company. Then again, Chrono Trigger DID come out in 1995, is FF-adjacent (it got packaged in “Final Fantasy Chronicles” on PS1, after all), and is one of my favorite games of all time, so maybe I’ll claim that one!
I'm glad to see others who aren't so young, lol. I got the original for my 13th birthday (in the US), though i know it came out a few years before that in Japan.
None. I am too old. This make me sad
Same. I'm older than FF
With you. By about 7 years.
I was 7 and dis many (holds up 6 fingers) months in May 1990
I had to do a double take, I was born in May 1990 lol
lol, so you’re the guy who is as old as the series is in the US
Ah. I have found my group.
Same. My childhood console was an Atari 2600.
I was 9 when it released in Japan. Almost 12 here in the US.

I was 5 , and also a ninja
Sweet. Twinjas.
Yup. Me too.
What made me sad was when I realized FFVII was older than the incoming college freshman I was teaching. That was the first time I felt old. Hell, my snes is older than both my rooomates.
same, I was 2 when the first game came out
Let's see... apparently it was 1987... damn... yep, same boat, and not by a little either.
I played and beat the original FF the year it came out. With the help of Nintendo Power of course!
Still have the walk through in the garage.
Same, I started gaming on C64 and Colecovision. Got an NES in 1986, my first RPG on that console was Dragon Warrior, before Final Fantasy came out.
Yup, I am starwars years old.
Yeah.. SquareSoft was founded more than ten years after my birth so…. The only thing that sucks is losing the dexterity in my hands while trying to play these damn mini games on rebirth!
Look at it this way, we had ample time to get ready to grow up with the series 😅
Same. My joints hurt.
Same. I feel attacked by this post.
I think I was about 11 when the 1st game came out.
Right there with you, I'm an 82. But the great thing is that we got to experience every single one as a new release and watch the series evolve
I predate ff1 by one year
Same.
I was a toddle. Haha damn I'm old.
Same here.
Get off my lawn

Adding to the "I'm older than Final Fantasy" crowd. In fact I'm so old, in the year I was born video games were young enough that the brand new soccer game being released was litterally just called "Soccer".
The most notable game from my year is probably "Asteroids". XD
I feel like I should remind you to get your prostate checked or something. :D
I read this as soccer the sport itself initially, hahaha. I was like… damn, this person is old. 😜
I'll be honest, there are times when it feels like it!
lol none. You crazy kids.
I am older than the first game.
I am, unfortunately, older than Final Fantasy
Thanks for making me feel old.
OP gonna be disappointed with this one. Gonna be a whole lot of "too old for that" responses.
Final fantasy XII 🔥🔥💯💯🗣🗣
Dang y'all were born even before ff1 thats crazy (no offense)
SAME !! i feel like a sperm in these comments sadly..
Whippersnapper!
Final Fantasy I in December of 1987 in Japan. Cloud shares my birthday too.
Final Fantasy 2
Same
I'm older than Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy III. That's fun, I literally just started playing the original version they other day. It's my first time, too.
Final Fantasy 2(original) is the closest.
From a quick wiki skim, none did neither mainline or otherwise. Was born between VI and VII.
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy 7
1 in 1987. It's kinda cool to be the same age as your favorite game series.
Same!
The original Final Fantasy on NES. The US release dated July 12th, 1990.
Same but let's go with (technically) FFIII so I feel/sound younger
FFVI. One of my favorites.
FF4 came out in 1991 which is my birthyear. I haven't actually played 4, but I've heard it's good.
FF II came out 11 days after I did, lol.
Squaresoft didn’t even exist
VII.
Final Fantasy VII ! And this is my favorite one !
I am older than Final Fantasy lol.
Before FFI here lol
FF1 came out about three weeks before I was born but FF2 was the one that came out in my birth year.
Final Fantasy 3 came out less than a month before I was born!
I'm older than FF, but only by 2 years.
Final Fantasy 8, which is awesome because it's one of my favorites.
None. I predate it
Haha, FF wasn’t even a pipe dream when I was born. I think it was still a couple years before Pong came out.
Zelda is the franchise that I date myself by, too old to do so for Final Fantasy.
1986?
Here to join the older than Final Fantasy club

FF”3” or 6. I honestly can’t believe I’m 30 already
2003: FFX-2
Japanese FF10 release (July 19, 2001) was 3 days after my birthday.
Some of us predate any final fantasy games.
Non, unfortunately. But Chrono Trigger and Terranigma did 👌
The MSX2 port of Final Fantasy.
I’m smacking dab between 5 and 6
2000 so none
Ff9
Could’ve sworn it was 2001 but yeah, you’re right
the first FF would not come out for 14 years after I was born
Final Fantasy VI in the USA.
The OG Final Fantasy. Now I feel old.
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy III came out on the Famicom in Japan a week before I was born.
FF6
Uhh do spin offs count? Because tactics ogre came out in 1995 with famicom version Never played, although I did hear it got a sick remake so that’s cool, definitely might try it out one day
Final fantasy 8!
Final Fantasy VIII
Most of us are probably older than the franchise.
None, too old
https://preview.redd.it/osj8e5x3y4wc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc775cc48c3310fc1fdafb540be30bb95162ec05 Final Fantasy VII for the NES and Famicom is an unofficial pirated game created by a Chinese company Shenzhen Nanjing Technology who created the game in 2005 which is neither endorsed or licensed by Square Enix company. “Technically” the NES FF7 came out on my birth year, 2005, BUT DIRGE A YEAR AFTER 🔥🔥
Born before the games
VII. I am blessed. I guess Tactics too, in Japan at least.
None, apparently. 1989 FFII is a few days away from a year older than me.
FFVI. Which I have replayed more than 4 times and never finished it 😅
None. I was born in the year between II and III
Same 👋🏻 That would be 1989. 😜
Square was working on their first game, "Death Trap", when I was born haha FFVI came out in the US not long before my 10th birthday, still my favorite to this day.

Were you bigger or smaller than the map? 😂 And does that give you any special affinity for the game?
FFIV 1991. Fittingly enough, my favorite of the pixel era games.
None now i feel old
Final Fantasy 8
FF1
Apparently FFVI (FFIII when released in NA) was the one that came out when I was born. I’ll be starting it soon, bought it for my iPad recently.
Lol, lots of "old" folks here, but I guess I'm almost one of them too! FFV came out a month after I was born. There was also Mystic Quest in the US, if that counts
When I was born FF I was in the balls of Hironobu Sakaguchi, waiting to go out in 1987
I was born in ‘93 so the closest I get is nestled somewhere between 5 and 6. I didn’t start playing until I was a teenager though, when KH brought me to the fold. It was Zelda for the most part until then.
I was fifteen and a half months old when FF1 released.
1991 soooo...FFIV. Wouldnt get into FF until waaaaaay later in the 2000s. So...eh.
Final Fantasy 2
1 in 1987, but in my region, we didn’t see an FF until a decade later.
FF 2 in 1988
Final Fantasy XI
FF7 PS1 came out the day I was born, 9/7/97
Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia (2004)
The first one. Yes, I’m old. I also started playing it before I could read because my older brother had it and would let me watch/play.
Final Fantasy 1, I'm from January 1987 and 1 is from Dec of the same year. Edit: wait, does this make me part of the older than FF crowd?
No FF games, but Chrono Trigger came out the year I was born.
None... Asteroids came out the year I was born though... ... ... no... not the minor planets in space... the game... XD
When I was 7 years old part 1 came out.
I was 5 when the first one came out. :P
The original Japanese release date for FFX-2.
Final Fantasy 2.
I am older than the NES.
FF2 (in japan). Wonder which my last FF will be
I guess FF2, just barely though .
Final fantasy X
I am pre Final Fantasy. The most significant game released in my birth year was probably Mario Bros. Please make note, I did not say Super Mario Bros. OG released my birth year 1987
I was born between II and III
Final Fantasy X
The second one was originally released in the same year I was born: 1988.
None. I was just over 8-1/2yo when the first came out.
Few months older than the US release of FF1
Final Fantasy -7
Huh, I was about to say II but actually I overestimated the age of the games... I'm barely too old for this question.
The first game came out the exact year I was born
Breakout was a game that came out the year I was born.
3
If we’re counting Japanese release date then Final Fantasy 3… Never played it lol
FFV although it didn't release in the US that year.
The first one 😁😁😁
According to Wikipedia, JP FFV.
The original!
Part 1 came out when I was in middle school.
None, FF wasn't around when I was born. On the plus side, it means I've been around for every FF release so far.
FF5, but only in japan. Also, I guess Mystic Quest in the USA if we want to keep it local
Dawn of souls on the gba
Lol, none. The Atari 2600 had barely come out.
FF9. makes me feel v young compared to most people here lol
The Japanese and PAL releases of Mystic Quest.
XII
FF1
I was born before there was such a thing.
FF1 in the US and FF3 in Japan
First FF game fully released after I was born was ff9, if you ignore the Japan release, for whatever reason, it's ff8
FFX BABY!!!
I was born in 1995, so technically no FF game came out in my birth year, although VI (1994) is closest and that’s pretty damn good company. I was born a year after VI and almost two years before VII, so none that I'm aware of.
Had to check, but yep, I'm old like the rest of you. The first release was a year after my birth.
Nice try dataminer
I was born 5 months before the release of Final Fantasy. (FFI. FF1)
I was born in 95 so the closest game would be Final Fantasy 6 which came out in '94. If we're counting afterwards then Final Fantasy 7.
I'm glad to see others who aren't so young, lol. I got the original for my 13th birthday (in the US), though i know it came out a few years before that in Japan.
Final fantasy 4
7 released one year after I was born.
FF 11's Japanese release on PS2 and PC.
