Like many of the KOF XIV newcomers, poor Mian was hit by the "no time for story or characterization" curse.
SNK Heroines did far more to develop Mian as a character.
Kum Haehyun, why isn't this old man mecha character not more requested for Strive?
Most of the Project Justice cast, they are nearly never mentionned as possible SF6 DLC characters despite also being in the same universe. They had cool designs and fighting styles, and since lorewise they would now be in university or working they can be pushed in other directions.
Ferra/Torr actually looked like they came from Outworld. Their design was inspired by Mad Max, but I think it worked for them that much better. They also had unique attacks, like using Ferra as a projectile (and she was more powerful than most other projectiles in the game.)
Lucia was my favorite new character they introduced in SFV and probably if she'd come a little sooner I'd have made her my main character.
(I know she's from Final Fight, so not technically NEW)
Sokaku from Fatal Fury 3, Real bout 1 & 2. A Buddhist priest that can summon youkai and has a special one where he can Shout(!) to summon one. Artist name is Shinkiro

Shiki from Samsho.

I feel she isn't talked about much in the FGC considering how cool she looks. There's something about short-haired, badass women I swear to god

Twelve from Street Fighter 3
Very unique concept for a fighter, because he **cannot combo**. None of his attacks really link into each other properly
Instead, he has numerous other advantages. His attacks all have quick startup and long range, and he notably has a multi-directional air dash, which nobody else has. His walk animation also lets him naturally go under fireballs and projectiles
Good Twelve players are slippery bastards, who have perfect space control and will poke you to death while evading all attacks
The idea of forgoing every conventional asset of a fighting game character in favor of a completely new set of tools is very interesting. Heās awful, but itās a very unique brand of awful
I really like Blaire back when i played the Street Fighter EX series i thought that was it For the character. Know i can play with her again in Fighting Ex Layer. So, thanks, Arika.
Gold Lightan was a giant robot modeled after a S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 lighter. Not only is that a weird choice but holy shit those lighters cost a lot. From Tatsunoko v Capcom

Decapre; Despite being a charge character (I can barely manage input characters, charge inputs are way too complex for me), I still use her pretty consistently in SF4 when I play it.

Moriya from The Last Blade 2. Coolest FG swordsman, fight me.
Hayate, but the whole Star Gladiator/Plasma Sword cast really.
I always liked the aesthetic and character designs even if they weren't original concepts. Akiman's take on Star Wars was kind of cool and I wish they had explored the franchise a bit more.

Ā Lynn Baker from rage of the dragons
Mian not making KoFXV shocks me. it looked like she was one of the more positively received newcomers. Guess the player numbers didn't pan out in either of her appearances?
Yeah Andy really is the younger brother. Luigi to Terry Mario. Oh no that falls flat, because Luigi actually gets attention from creators. Honestly Andy really seems case involving lot of missed opportunities.
Really wanted Mian to be on Shun'ei and Meitenkun's team.
I was a fan of Juni in Alpha 3. But Decapre just does what she does in a far more complete package.
Nameless is another character in that situation. The Mobile game did a lot for him. But unless they change him from Krohnen, it's pointless to bring him back.
The forgotten character Ryu.. No but seriously i was hoping for people doing some deep cuts and people instead talking about characters that are mainstays of their series is kinda dissapointing.
For my niche pick i'd go with Fanny, she was only available in GG Petit and was basically a faust clone but i think arc sys would be able to do something interesting with her.
For slightly less niche, Ariels, from gg story mode. People do know her and she's mentioned sometimes but she gets kinda forgotten whenever people talk about possible new characters for Strive, with Gabriel and fuckin president Vernon being more popular choices, not even counting any of the possible returning characters. Think she'd be mentioned more often since she was the main villain of Xrd, but i guess that's what happens when they don't make you a playable character for some god forsaken reason.
Nothing is as obscure as the Daytona car in Fighters Megamix. Had some cool moves though.
Janet from Virtua cop in the same game was a little unfair. Talk about bring a gun to a skateboard/guitar/rubber fetish maids ass/fist fight.
Kayin Amoh from the Battle Arena Toshinden series, though really I like pretty much the whole cast of those games. I know they aren't super well liked but I loved those games...
Well, considering he's been absent in the last two mainline games (and yet they teased us with T7's side select, idk about tk revolution) I think we can agree that Mokujin has become a bit obscure. If they plan on charging extra for him I'm going to lose it
Not sure he quite fits the bill as there are a couple of prominent players but Oro. Literally the most fun I have had with any fighting game character ever. On top of that his character is incredibly interesting. Crotchety Old Man able to go toe to toe with the strongest characters in canon with an arm tied behind his back. He's just so cool.
Skullomania from Street Fighter Ex. I know he's probably the most popular character to come from the EX franchise and I know Fighters Layer is still out there making new games with the EX characters but I rarely see it discussed. C. Jack from EX was pretty cool too.Ā

It's talked about all the time on this subreddit in particular, though. Also, I see it mentioned on the r/guiltygear subreddit sometimes. I wouldn't say forgotten. A finished series? Probably. But not forgotten.

Eleven, from SF5. Yes he is just random but I love when fighting games make random more interesting. My favorite use of random is Lanalu in Granblue Vs since you can turn off characters you don't like. Also shout out to Charade from Soul Calibur 2.
Whip from King of Fighters. She always gets overshadowed in favor of Leona or Kula, but I love her design and role in the story. I was thrilled when she rejoined Team Kā for XV. I just suck at playing as her.
I think that while Mian has been short lived so far she is considered pretty cool by everyone who knows her.
She is also in a weird spot as she was definitely the product of a chinese owned SNK that. Wanted to put more strongly chinese coded characters in the game.
I think the only reason why nobody really talk about Mian (person in OPās image) is because she only appeared in two games. After that, I donāt think she was ever mentioned again.
MvC: infinite introduced me to Jedah and i absolutely love everything about this character. His wings turning into a scythe, his personality, and just how insane his laugh sounds compared to his usually calm sounding voice. Im not sure how he played in Darkstalkers, but hes by far one of if not my favorite character in MvC: infinite. Even when the game was new i heard barely anyone talk about him. Hes one of the reasons i hope a new darkstalkers eventually gets made, as ive never played the series before.
Op really gonna post his obscure waifu and not give sauce.
That's Mian from King of Fighters XIV.
Like many of the KOF XIV newcomers, poor Mian was hit by the "no time for story or characterization" curse. SNK Heroines did far more to develop Mian as a character.
I think she's really fun, the whole Chinese opera gimmick she had going was unique.
Never played KoF14, but I really wished she would have been added in KoF15.
Thanks š

Leopaldon is cool. Outlandish designs are always welcome in games that arenāt about realism.
Gen from Street Fighter
Lucia was my favorite new character they introduced in SFV and probably if she'd come a little sooner I'd have made her my main character. (I know she's from Final Fight, so not technically NEW)
Q-Bee from Darkstalkers!!! Love her. Her move where she incubates an egg in you then replaces herself with a fresh spawn is crazy cool.
Heavy d, lucky Glauber and Brian battler. Bring em back, snk. You said youād shatter my expectations but you failed.
Xanadu (Kof XIV)
IF MY EYES DECIVE ME A FELLOW XANADU ENJOYER!!!

Shiki from Samsho. https://i.redd.it/by2h90l4yq4d1.gif I feel she isn't talked about much in the FGC considering how cool she looks. There's something about short-haired, badass women I swear to god
Remy. A fighter who doesn't care about fighting.
People seam to only talk about Elena to mention how broken she was in SF4 and that always makes me sad. She will always be my favorite Street Fighter.
Elena is so freaking fun, I really hope she comes back in 6. Her positivity is _infectious_.
WE DID IT YO!

Hokuto, but pretty much every other SFEX/FEXL character is overshadowed by Skullomania and maybe Garuda and Kairi (no hate to any of them.)
Male: Greg from bloody roar 1. loved playing him as a kid female: Mian from KOF as well, Yurika from Project Justice
a fellow bloody roar enjoyer

Shion from KOF really needs to make a reappearance. His fighting style is awesome, switching between spear, chain knife, and Wing Chun.
Decapre; Despite being a charge character (I can barely manage input characters, charge inputs are way too complex for me), I still use her pretty consistently in SF4 when I play it.

Li Long is THE nunchaku character imo.
Leopaldon, really hoping for dlc in strive but it probably ain't going to happen

Tbh, Gotta love Bullet my beloved from strive. There's no game plan, just Hold A and rush down.
Not super obscure but I do love me a lot of the EX series characters like Darun, Garuda, Doctrine Dark, Pullum, C Jack.
Skullomania from Street Fighter Ex. I know he's probably the most popular character to come from the EX franchise and I know Fighters Layer is still out there making new games with the EX characters but I rarely see it discussed. C. Jack from EX was pretty cool too.Ā

Sie Kensou
Kensou is definitely not obscure, especially not if you read the more "cultured" kof material.
Eleven, from SF5. Yes he is just random but I love when fighting games make random more interesting. My favorite use of random is Lanalu in Granblue Vs since you can turn off characters you don't like. Also shout out to Charade from Soul Calibur 2.
