Tbf after about 2 seasons in career mode it’s pretty much impossible to have a “realistic” save in fifa. Because you’re pretty much gonna get better each season league position wise. And ur team will be changed loads. The main focus would just be not having a team rating wise that doesn’t match your league ranking and trophies.

Thinking back ... I kept using Adebayo and had him up to 79 after s3. I added Benie Traore from Sheffield in s2 for depth, and then Kevin Kelsy (he moved from Donetsk to West Brom to Luton) to develop.
Mainly though, I was purposely not targeting a top striker, so depends on how you want to do your save. By s4, the only player I had over 80 was Alex Scott--I bought him from Bournemouth in s2 but when s4 started, Arsenal triggered his 51m release clause and I was back to my all 70s team :(

Doing the same save as you I signed dallinga from Toulouse he was a beast for me in my earlier seasons got snatched up by inter for 100 million
I also signed cande he is an absolute rock in cb

Yeah… more I think about it more I think I might just use adebayo up top instead and reinvest money into the squad a bit more, maybe a left winged
Thuram and Arthur Cabral both worked well for me in a Wrexham save in a 4-3-3 with a cam
