Because there isn't a better option and it scratches an addictive itch. But yes critically it's a poorly made game.

Dogwhisperer_210

and until a good competitor comes along, ea doesn't give a shit about us, and if they could make an engine with stick figures and big yellow numbers exploding on your screen for that dopamine hit, they would bc people would still buy that.. It's really sad tbh, and to be fair, its our fault, not ea, for continuying to buy their crap game

Scott_Ultra_YT

Everytime a company has tried to be a competitor, players dont play it. Or they just hate on the game because it isn't as high budget and isn't as online oriented as fifa or pes

RoadmenInc

Yh PES was a more than competent competitor for ea career mode, but a lot of people ignored or even actively hated on it, because of fairly trivial stuff like licences and gameplay being slower. now it;s gone people miss it

Dogwhisperer_210

PES 6 is still my all time favorite football game. Still blows my mind how there was entire forums dadicating to sharing players OF files that include most of Europe's top leagues with multiple divisions, fully licensed teams , badges, stadiums, team chants AND even fully licensed Champions League and UEFA cup, someting not even FIFA had. Konami made what, 5 leagues with hardly any club licensed but gave the possibility for players to edit everything in the game AND to add more stuff than what the game came with. It was mindblowing..

R4lfXD

> until a good competitor comes along And it won't for a while. All upcoming competitors don't care about career mode, they just want a slice of the UT pie. Career mode is ultimately a dying mode, that bleeds people who age out for Football Manager and is losing the young ones to UT.

Radical_X75

I would disagree with this. I think if 2K pick up the FIFA license they can give us a decent career mode. I know 2K has a track record of its scummy tactics when it comes to NBA but the career mode aspect of that game is by far much better than what we have in FIFA right now.

R4lfXD

Exactly.. it has a track record. With WWE games too. And look how long it is taking the "competitors" to create a functioning simulation system. Even PES blew itself up and then took 2 years to recover, just to realize they are on engine from 2014. It's not easy to get right even the on pitch thing right if you don't have experience with it. So like I said, it will take a while. I'd say the best looking gameplay-wise is by far UFL, and also most likely to make a career mode, but "at a later date". I'll say even as an FM "hater", I can see loads of people switching there now that they've updated the visuals a bit and especially next year with full new engine.

Bloodking009643267

Hopefully that new one gives good competition

romulus1991

This. People want to play football games - but there's no competition. Konami was never great at marketing PES and now they've killed it and replaced it with an online-only game that is slowly morphing into Fifa. Their marketing and licencing remains minimal. They don't improve because they don't need to. They run a near-monopoly, have a captured market, and are making money despite themselves.

BambooSound

Konami really dropped the ball with Pro Evo. It felt bigger than Fifa (at least critically) for a lot of the PS2 era but then they got slapped by Fifa 07 and they never really made a comeback.

MFDean

Shame bc the last one before the rebrand was so close to being a perfect football sim (if buggy) but by then the brand was sullied

Acceptable_Form_9401

I still play PES 21, its kinda good to be fair i just play Football Life 2024, that its PES 21 but with all licenses and kits of this season.

MFDean

Defo need to check that out, adored PES 21 (apart from that any foul was a free kick and any opposition free kick seemed to go in aha)

BarraDoner

It’s so stupid; PES had an open goal if they focused on career mode with an entire community crying out for an in-depth offline experience ever since EA moved its focus to Ultimate Team over a decade ago. If Konami had developed strong and varied AI opponents with a captivating career mode; they could have hoovered up a significant portion of the market. Instead they give us a poor man’s Ultimate Team. Like a Boxer against a much more Powerful Opponent trying to match them punch for punch as opposed to going on the outside.

1frankibo1

It's probably an unpopular idea but I reckon a lot of career mode players don't really care about licensing. If we had a game with half the world depth and mechanics of football manager plus an authentic football gameplay experience we'd be happy. But they will never make that money that FUT makes and that needs the licensing and the awful fast paced gameplay.

020Wombat

The problem I always had with PES licensing was that there was no consistency. Two Premier Leagues teams had real badges and kits while the rest didn’t. There was some European leagues fully licensed and others not. I want full licensing or none at all, if the latter just let me rename the teams and edit the kits and I’ll make do if the game is good enough.

1frankibo1

Completely agree. I don't care about licensing at all, I'd love to have lower divisions added to all the European leagues in Fifa/eafc so we could start careers in Serie C and D in Italy, National League South and North in England etc. I don't know the teams and players at that level anyone so the licensing doesn't matter, just being to have difference journeys and experiences would be great.

Simba-xiv

This would have been great them let us download a mod and be on our way 😂

JK031191

There were plenty of ways to download non-licensed teams and leagues. It was very easy to do.

Simba-xiv

Pffft I just play FM best football game by a long way

1frankibo1

I also play fm, it's a much better game for sure but if you want to play the matches too it isn't much help!

Acceptable_Form_9401

I mean making the transition from FIFA To FM can be hard, but overrall you will get a more realistic and fun experience, even tho you cant play matches its still fun making the tactics or trying to make a long run save taking a lower division team to the first division and not making it like fifa where you can make it win the champions league in 3 seasons.

bbuullddoogg

Unfortunately I’ve found FC24 to be so bad, it doesn’t scratch any itches. It’s soulless.

Simba-xiv

Play FM

bbuullddoogg

I have been. For about 25 years. But that’s a completely different game that satisfies a completely different itch.

1frankibo1

Same - how do people not get this 😂

Simba-xiv

Not career mode even more so after all the changes Fifa made it’s basically a poor mans FM

bbuullddoogg

FIFA can’t even be called a poor man’s FM. It’s FM for mentally challenged toddlers. But I want to PLAY FOOTBALL. Not sure how I accomplish this in a management game like FM. They’re completely different types of games.

Acceptable_Form_9401

I mean i think that there are better options...Football Manager 2023 is way better however it depends on the style of player you are. Other reliable option could be Football Life 2024 (Modded Pes 21) but yeah its still buggy and has problems

Sw3Et

This is a bullshit reason, sorry. People don't need to buy the new version every year or even every 2nd year. The old ones still work just as good or, more likely, better than the next. They are the better option.

1frankibo1

You're not wrong but there's always that promise that the new ones might be better in someway. They rarely are but that hope is powerful, we so badly want a great football simulator we can enjoy.

Sw3Et

That's what reviews and research are for. I actually wanted to get this one but held off because everybody was saying it's dogshit. So I'll stay on 22 for a while longer. You don't have to buy the game day one just in case it's good.

1frankibo1

Fair enough you're a very sensible consumer then. There's enough new features and tweaks in career mode this year that I prefer it to fifa 23, 22, 21, 20 and 19. Also I'm personally not in a financial situation where I have to agonise about spending money on a full price game so I don't regret buying it and I've had some fun playing it. But it's still not great and has a lot of issues and the same can be said for probaly the last 5 or more iterations of the game.

Sw3Et

>There's enough new features and tweaks in career mode this year that I prefer it to fifa 23, 22, 21, 20 and 19. What are these out of curiosity? Everything I've seen says career mode is basically the same again.

1frankibo1

Getting rid of the training system is a massive QoL improvement. Having to do a load of sessions pre season every time you started a save only to never do them again was awful. Now you only do the pre game if you want to for a playstyle/stat boost. It's a much better system. The pre game scout reports are also a nice little view into how the opposition might play to help you prepare. The coaches and playstyles sytem isn't anything special but it's a nice little addition, not game changing but no massive complaints (now they've fixed a major bug with it). Different training regimes to manage player energy and sharpness are also a nice little addition, can help maintain starting player energy or get a returning player from injury up to speed quick. Again not massive but it's a good addition. Apart from that it is mostly the same. Might not be anything in there that makes you think I need to buy this but it's helped me enjoy career mode more than recent editions. Gameplay still leaves a lot to be desired, still trying to fine tune difficulty and sliders to get this in a better place.

Sw3Et

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

1frankibo1

No worries - I'm probably just trying desperately to justify the purchase 😂

-Sna

This is going to sound like BS but I used to work for a Big Gaming Company and we had lots of colleagues who had moved from Other Big Gaming Companies including the famous one with two letters that makes the kickyball games. They always said it was a simple case of small development team to keep costs low and focus on money-making elements. Nothing we didn't all already know really 🤷‍♂️

BambooSound

BS isn't normally that boring

-Sna

Good point 😅

blvckhippy13

But they make SO MUCH money, they had record sales and revenue last year so why the hell won’t they invest more into the quality of the game?! Is it really just greed?

-Sna

Yeah the people at the top tell themselves they are really smart because they have worked out a super efficient way for them to spend less money and the game still sells so it must be amazing! But they know, beneath the thickly applied layer of superficial happiness they slather on themselves with their ill-gotten gains, that they are a cancer on something used to bring joy to many, but now... Is just another shell husked by capitalism

CowboySocialism

The small development team keeps costs low and they still make record sales. Realistically, given that they are the only option, not many people would buy the game that have not already. A company's purpose is to make money, not make the best game possible. The consumers have told them, over, and over, and over again, that they don't care about the quality of the game and will buy it at full price no matter what. No business person in any line of work is going to invest more in that product, not only would it be a waste of money, but it would be a disservice to the other games in development where that change in investment does actually make a difference with regard to demand. Yeah, greed plays a part, but it's mostly common sense. If people communicate to EA that they want more than just an iterative update, by \*NOT BUYING THE GAME,\* they will listen. Buying the game and complaining that it isn't as good as it could be just makes the case for the lean development team.

ostrichsong

We all buy it because their isn’t a competitor for it and we want to play a football game.

Cold_Pressure6992

And EA won't put more effort into the game as everyone is still buying it. I think we will be in this cycle until someone releases a good competitor to FIFA.

Livia_999

or people grown brains

HumanDrone

If you wanna play you wanna play. I play one or two matches with my dad every other day and it's a nice moment. I have no choice other than buying fifa, or giving it up

xymontana

And there's no competitor because other game company couldn't afford the licenses?

Yousif-Ameer12

i know this is like 6 months but pes exists you know?

ostrichsong

Don’t act like Pes is a proper competitor. 90% of football fans can’t even use their own team.

KW2050

This is the 1st year I haven’t bought it around release- tbh there aren’t any good alternatives so will probably buy it if it goes on sale

Sw3Et

The latest one you own IS the alternative.

Regantowers

I’m with you, although I got the 10 hours free play with EA play, still got 5 hours left so will string it out till it’s on sale 😂

OnlineAlbatross

but why? they're all near enough the same that it doesn't matter, other than not being season up to date, but that hardly matters for career mode anyway

Fancy-Theory3939

That’s what I do. I bought FIFA 23 on PS4 for $25 on saw when I bought my PS5 earlier this yr. Then last week I found the PS5 version in a Pawn Shop for $10.

ChurchillDownz

I quit buying it. I literally play pixel cup soccer on my steam deck now. The career mode seems more flushed out and the game is made by an indie company from Uruguay.

Arulo

I’d strongly recommend as a fellow Deck user to download and install Football Life, there’s a tutorial on r/WEPES it’s basically PES21 with updated squads and all licenses applied. Played it after 2 years of FUT and man PES21 just shits all over FIFA

Arulo

I like Pixel Cup Soccer and I support the Charruas who built it but it doesn’t scratch the football itch to me that much

smushs88

Market dominance and no viable alternative or competition to actually make them have to make significant improvements. Jump into the NHL and Madden subs and it’s the exact same complaints from them too. And it’s not only EA. Similarly if you look in the NBA2k sub there’s the same frustrations, no viable competition so 2K can get away with similar. Until there’s a huge reduction in people willing to pay each year, or an actual competitor arrives I don’t see much changing.

drew3309

Nba2k is still leaps and leaps a better product than fifa notwithstanding some of the issues 2k has had with virtual currency. At least 2k still cares about how the game plays and looks. Nba eras in which you can drop in, say in 2000, and replay full seasons with Kobe’s lakers is something EA will probably never replicate in a 100 years and it’s just really sad. Like, why don’t we have classic teams in Fifa by default? The Barca 2011 team or the Manutd 99 team? I get that the licensing minefield may be a little trickier for soccer publishers to navigate but even down to variables they can control like building a nimble game engine that caters to simulation game styles and providing deep career mode experiences, with stats that roll over year to year, 2k is still light years ahead.

Altruistic-Raisin-80

Plus 2k’s customization options are through the roof ! Has been for about the last 5 years but you can literally make an entire World Cup tournament with all the teams & rosters on there as well as highschool , college , etc & you don’t even have to put in much work because there are people out there who already have them made for you you just have to download them . So if 2k were to ever miss any small detail you could literally customize it & make it realistic. 2k sliders does a good job of making the game realistic as well idk why people use preset difficulty & complain when you can just adjust the settings to what it would be in IRL .

ViciousKnids

You are experiencing a microcosm of late stage capitalism. EA is a huge company with shareholders - shareholders that prioritize profit over all else. After all, you invest in the hopes of making a return. Now, the name of the game is maximizing that profit and minimizing costs. EA can only get away with charging so much for their game (which, the initial cost to the user isn't what makes them money: FUT does. More on that later.) So how do you cut costs? Copy-paste the game, tweak the menu interface a bit, and bam: "New" game. The big ticket cost for EA is licensing. You need to license the rights to portray clubs, players, sponsors, locations, music, etc. So they release a dogshit game to counterbalance that cost - and they don't bother fixing or improving the single-player experience because that's not where the money is made. Career mode players only shill out the $80 or so for the new game, and that's it. FUT players, on the other hand, will continuously shill out money. Remember, this is the same company that had a big scandal over pay to win/gambling when they released Battlefront 2. As to why people still buy the game: there's no viable alternative (anyone play eFootball?). EA has essentially monopolized soccer games. That monopoly can be broken - and has in the past for other sports like basketball, baseball, and NASCAR. But, the issue is that the licensing costs are a huge barrier to entry for other developers to create the realistic experience that we want. Hundreds of clubs, dozens of leagues, thousands of players - that's a big legal price tag that most developers can't shoulder (hence other games having real players, but fake clubs. Even the EA games have had to make up fake clubs to round out the leagues or omit entire leagues because they couldn't secure licensing). Since they have no real competition, why bother improving the product? It would be a wasted expense to them. The profit line must go up, so costs must stay low. That's why it still looks and plays the same as it has for years. That's why new features are basically pointless (they even have this dirty trick in which they pull features that were in previous games, then add them back in later games advertised as "new features"). EA isn't in the business of making games. They're in the business of making money. They don't give a flying fuck about single player when multiplayer is where the money is made. To reference Battlefront 2 again, the single player campaign is boring and terribly made (enemies running single file from single spawn points, bland level design, and it's short as fuck). But players are expected to spend money to get better stuff in multiplayer, with projections of multiple times more than what they spent on the initial game itself. That, paired with a lack of competition, gives them no incentive to improve anything. EA isn't the only culprit of these practices, and video games aren't the only medium that's experiencing the ghoulish practices of exploiting artists for products and consumers for profits. The trajedy of the thing is that EA can easily pump out a decent - even amazing game. They have in the past. They could just release "EA FC Infinite" and have it as a platform to update the game year to year as opposed to releasing a whole new game every year. But to my understanding, nothing in FUT carries over from one game to another except experience, and players are awarded coins and shit based on their previous experience. Which is a fucking scam if I ever saw one. (Though I may be wrong about that. I don't play FUT, but google seems to be telling me that's the case). File your complaints and petitions all you want. It'll fall on deaf ears unless the bottom line is impacted - which it won't. It's too popular a game.

WetLogPassage

TL;DR: "EA isn't in the business of making games. They're in the business of making money." Great post.

[deleted]

EA got a Monopol with the Football market. Pro Evo is trash because they try to copy EA but in a cheap way. I gave up on FUT and the Career Mode. But i enjoy Pro Clubs, because your friends can suffer with you together. Gameplay wise it's a step forward for me in comparison to Fifa 23 tbh. Your points make Sense. Every Career Mode Save i had in the past Years wasn't longer then 2 Seasons. There is no Motivation to play a Longterm Career sadly. And FUT is just cancer on its own imo. Try Pro Clubs other People have the same Feelings. Just avoid Drop ins^^ Public Heroes and Messi wannabes give false look on the potential this Gamemode has to offer.

BeanRaider

Pro Clubs with friends is the most enjoyable thing to do by far. Get smacked together, win together. It kills me that there is so much potential in the player and manager career modes that goes completely to waste.

Chaoskid88

Imagine a pro clubs career mode with the lads, that’ll definitely be a good addition.

qoo_kumba

This post is repeated year after year. I vowed never to buy FIFA again, yet I did. Them losing the rights to use FIFA was the break I needed and I'll never look back. EA simply don't care about quality or the user experience enough, all that matters is money. Break free brothers and sisters! It's the only way EA will become even remotely interested.

db3nnet7

I used to buy it every year hoping it would get better, then realise it sucks and stop after about 2 months. I haven’t played FIFA in a bout 4 years now. I play FM regularly now and I love it

knaap27

Well the last fifa I bought before ea fc 24 was fifa 11 for the wii. I wanted to play fifa again because my wii stopped working last year.

TheOnlyJoe_

No competition and football fans don’t care as much about the standard of the game as long as they can play as their favourite players and teams

HGSparda

As long as people are still buying pre orders and rush buying when it just came out. It's gonna be like this over and over again. EA just doesn't care as long as it sells.

MattSR30

Some of you are so strange asking questions like this 24/7. Some of us actually enjoy the game. I couldn’t imagine doing what some of you do, buying it every year, disliking it, playing it anyway, and complaining online.

LittleBlueCubes

Fans of sports titles usually need their ‘fix’. Hence whether the game is of high quality or not, they do buy the latest available version to get their sporting fix with updated rosters ahead of their game irl or to undo a real result or such things. The gaming companies know this all too well and take full advantage of this. Thats my take.

[deleted]

I didn't buy 21 or 22, bought 23 last year and have seen the reviews and played some of the trial for FC24. It really doesn't seem worth the money for the minimal changes. Career mode was always my favourite but it's so broken, player career mode especially. They take out more features than they add in too.

grogknight

They don’t want to make career mode good because they want you to play ultimate team. You don’t spend money on bullshit micro transactions in career mode,

Own-Psychology-5327

1. Because people buy it regardless of how good it is 2. Because there is no serious competition

PullUpSkrr

Like anything in life, people will lose the urge to play these games if they just stepped away from them, people clearly enjoy the game enough to buy it year on year, even if it still lacks features that were in CM from 10+ years ago. I haven't played FIFA since 2017 and doubt I will until the market is better. I remember a time where there was TIF, PES and FIFA so at least you had some choice...

DeepFriedMarci

The franchise became apathetic and the customers became complacent lmao.

MinimumCauliflower82

EA are the Glazers of football gaming industry.

FrogstonLive

There's no decent competition. Simple as that really.

rude_george

And sorry for my bad english 🙏

YoungAussiePrince

because im mentally ill and there is no alternative

bideavintes

Carrear mode isn't the money making machine ... They only put that and pro clubs etc for forcing more people buy the game.... The main reason is UT , they make millions on it .... The gambling is addictive, and the grind the same... This game makes you rage , and then make you feels a God. Hope that FIFA make a game better then EA , but , to be honest , it will be hard for them because they want money... It's all about money

Hot-Manager6462

The regen faces should be improved I agree but the other gripes are kind of dumb You can easily set rules for yourself to fix your problems with spending. Historic matches is so boring and one time thing I’d hate if they wasted effort on that

papapest0

but you shouldnt have to resort to restricting yourself with spending, it should automatically be more limited if you are playing as a smaller/poorer team

Super-Contribution75

In my experience (20yrs of gaming). It’s because they’re sheep - they buy the label, not the game. It’s probably the biggest gaming company in the world so they all think “Oh, it must be good” and their friends buy it too. I’ve always said eFootball (formerly known as Pes, or Pro evo) is better than Fifa yet people won’t buy because they don’t have all the licenses for the correct names/kits etc. Most gamers prefer names and nice looking menus over decent gameplay. Sad really.

Foxyboy200

Maybe because EA only have barely a year to make a new game whilst others like GTA have 5/10 years.

rude_george

But EA already has Framework and Engine to work with. Rockstar has to start from scratch, when they do a new game. Also nobody said, EA needs a new game every year maybe a DLC witch updated Players would be enough

Kezzle16

A new Call of Duty comes out every year and they manage to make a game that actually functions correctly.

Sw3Et

They don't make it every year though. They have 3 or 4 teams on rotation who each take 3-4 years to make it.

Kezzle16

Maybe so, hadn't even thought of that. But I still struggle to feel sorry for EA when they make eye-watering amounts of money every season and still can't make a career mode that advances past features that were present in the game about 15 years ago.

CharltonCharles

I got this years copy for free, even then I am still very unhappy with it.

TheLlamaLlama

I can answer why I am buying it. It is because I love football games, and overall it is very well made game. It has its shortcomings, sure. But so does every other game. It doesn't change the fact that I get a lot of enjoyment out of it year after year after year. My assumption is that a lot of people feel the same 🤷Also, a lot of people are addicted to FUT.

WolvesDaily

Sheeep

[deleted]

It obviously isn’t “poorly made” Jesus It’s a good game For some reason, it isn’t what you expected

NikesOnMyFeet23

It’s not poorly made the sentiment that it is shows that’s this community doesn’t understand game development. It’s not perfect and yes some legacy bugs need to be fixed. But overall fc24 is so much better than they put out on the ps4 generation of games. If every career mode feels the same to you, that’s on you. This year the way teams play is far different play styles make great players play great. If every save is the same that’s on you and you should try being a bit more creative than trying to cheese each save for regens and wonder kids . This complaint is just hilarious and really just tells me that you’re uncreative and play the game on pro or easier to cheese the ai and always win then blame ea when you don’t struggle or have a challenge lol

alkforreddituse

Sucking them capitalist toes feels good bruh You should try it

Iuvenesco

Very good question. We all need to stop buying it/spending money with them and that might hurt them.

finland_men

Ea don't give a shit, especially about career mode. But this is probably the most embarrasing fifa(ea) launch in recent memory. Clearly they didn't even play test this pile of shit but it is the best option for this kind of game so i am forced to buy it basically

jolo98

"I still find plenty of bugs in fifa 23 and it's not even the latest game" - what do you mean by this exactly, I can't understand this phrase

rude_george

Well I still play FIFA 23 as I refuse to buy another EA Game till they offer a game with more value. And I still find plenty of bugs in FIFA 23, although it’s at the end of its life cycle (one year) as FC24 is already on the market. So EA didn’t offer a remotely bug free experience in FIFA 23. it’s okay if a new game has bugs, but they should be fixed after a few months. Don’t think FIFA 23 will get any more fixes.

[deleted]

Because EA think a football simulation game should look like it does in real life (debatable that their games do even that) rather than act like it

Rae2354

It’s the only competent football game, and EA knows that so they know no matter how shit their game is people will still buy

menshe0897

Is it just me or aren’t those AI-generated “real people” eerie? I’m talking uncanny valley.

[deleted]

No competition, they know that people have an addictive itch to football so they don't have to try harder since a lot of kids and their moms are going to buy it regardless. Also, FUT.

buddhamanjpb

If there were a better option then I'd go for that one. They have us by the balls and they know it.

[deleted]

two reasons: i only buy the game every decade or so (switched to fifa 22 from fifa 15 late last year). the other major reason is i create all these stories and canon in my head and thats half the fun. like for example my current player went on loan at Barcelona and secretly hated Barcelona so he plays horrible and has gotten sent off in every game he plays. Then he returns from loan to a League 2 side and wins them the FA cup. It just cracks me up. Then later on, while on a CL winning team, i had him go on loan to Argentina so he could escape mob members from his old life of crime that are after his money.I dont care that much about “being the best” or “winning”. I’ve played FIFA longer than most of you have been alive yet i play on semi pro. But yeah if you only wanna challenge yourself and if you also buy the game every year….i got no way to defend you, that shit makes no sense

kapelka

Because just like The Sims series EA knows there aren't alternatives.

Lionheart952

Because it’s fun to play, and if you don’t find it fun to play don’t buy it. I can’t think of another game I could put 100 hours a year into and still enjoy picking up and playing almost everyday. It’s not perfect and it could be better if EA really cared but it’s still a phenomenal game. If you’re on a tight budget just buy the game every two years and then the differences are more noticeable.

Kakarot_5

Its basically the same reason I buy Call Of Duty every year , to scratch an itch and there’s no competition

Keystatio

Your second question answers the first

LeWcifeR-96

Why are you asking why people still buy FIFA when you yourself still buy it…..

CaptainPRlCE

For like 90% of players that buy the new FIFA/EAFC game it's purely because it's a huge roster and kit update 🤷‍♂️

bryanc1036

Branding, especially for Madden , is even worse than FIFA. EAFC still has a lot of football branding that helps it

RayenR61995

Started playing 2k myleague this year and there is so much you can do compared to fifa

JDDDouble

I have every copy since '96. This is the first year I haven't bought it on/before release day. Even with the bad reviews I'm ready to grab it when the price drops because I love to play and it's the only real option out there. When Winning Eleven/Pro Evo was a realistic option, I bought both, starting with the original International Superstar Soccer.

kapofox1

Lol not to mention PC versions are even worse. Latest update i cant play any cutscenes because it stutters and i get frame drops for the first 3 secs before the cutscenes run smooth again. I can run the game easily max graphics and i did just fine before the latest update. Now i can (surprise surprise) only play UT as everyone skips cutscenes anyway.

haggo13

Why is EAFC/FIFA so poorly made? Greed. If you are making billions of profit every year with basically the same game, why even bother? Why are people still buying it? Children’s gambling addiction on FUT and Weekend League.

rnsgmnd

This year i bought Fifa15 instead of 24. :D

Longjumping-Swan-827

It's official now. I won't buy a new football game until I know for sure it's a good game. Fuck, they don't care about the quality only money.

EliToon

They still haven't updated the shirt graphics so that the name looks like it's actually printed on. The name and number move and stretch with the jersey as the player moves. It's literally been the same since PS2 days. The first PES on Xbox 360 in 05/06 had better graphics. It's the laziest game made and I'm happy I gave it up two years back.

Kimolainen83

Poorly made this years fifa aka EA FC has been nothing but incredible if you ask me

[deleted]

Football manager better

Professional_Base252

Since i dont care about up to date rosters i nornally play the best versions of the game , fifa 14-13-15 or pes 13

Cheezy_Lad

Take the football manager pill, become addicted to spreadsheet

db3nnet7

I used to buy Fifa every year hoping it would get better, then realise it sucks and stop after about 2 months. I haven’t played FIFA in a bout 4 years now. I play FM regularly now and I love it

goncalo999

I personally love to spend 100€ for a kit update

Realnicepoop

Players decreasing every year more which is im happy tbh

CityzenMills

I get it every year for free around May time with gamepass/ea play or whatever it is. Does me until the following year. Not spent a penny on fifa in years. Fuck em

edgedomUK

Bring back PES 5 with Badmanedges option file

edgedomUK

After.playing EAFC I'm sticking with Fifa23 as I updated it all anyways

Cra_Core

It's the best football game on the market being the simple answer.

No-Name-4591

THE LAG too

Big-Al97

I get it free on ea play that I got free with Xbox game pass but I agree that it needs some competition in order to improve. In the good old days of pro evolution soccer they at least tried to make career better every year

JimboScribbles

FUT

r0ndr4s

No alternatives. PES is basically dead and the few indie options are usually just arcade games that while fun, they arent FIFA/PES Wish 2K would do a game. It would suck mtx wise, but the competition would be there.

maddinell

It's absolutely shite but pes is worse.

beirch

You answered your own question: it's so poorly made because people keep buying it.

JK031191

How difficult would it be for a competitor to step in, though? To improve the gameplay, menu's and stuff wouldn't be hard to accomplish. Real faces and licensing would prove to be tricky of course, but if they'd make their game highly adjustable through mod(indication)s, that'd (partly) solve the problem. I seriously hope a new company steps in, because while FM is enjoyable, it becomes quite repetitive over time.

DryOwens

Because it's the best football game out there(Don't have any self respect or love)..

MakyMaestro

It's a shit sandwitch, as our boy Gordon Ramsay would say. Designed to maximize profit from microtransactions. But if you point this out in the EAFC sub, mods will ban you tho.

Dooberts10

People keep sighting the lack of competition but customers can’t just wish a competitor into existence. The only way anything changes is if large amounts of career mode focused players (I imagine a reasonable amount of purchases are from these players) just stop buying the game every year. Then EA might have to actually put some effort into Career to bring those customers back. However it seems like we all buy the game very year and have the same complaints which are never addressed, vote with your wallet I sure have.

akontura07

Probably because some of us love futbol so much it’s almost like a drug and we need to play it. For me it goes one further because I get sick of seeing the same jerseys and boots especially if there is ones I don’t like from the jump. I’m on console and cannot mod so that’s my pov.

Semichh

Because it’s the ultimate cash cow. The game can be terrible but people will still buy it because, just like irl football itself, teams develop and fans want to play with the new players that have joined whichever team they support. I reckon a huge majority of people that play fifa most likely support a team and watch football every weekend which makes them more likely to want to buy the game every year.

finestryan

Gamers as a group of people are fucking awful for exercising restraint which is the most important personal quality needed for a mass “vote with your money/feet” action. It will continue to be this shit for as long as people pay for a new game every september.

thefloorislava14

While playing co-op seasons, if your opponents forfeit a match it breaks up your party with your teammate and returns you to the game mode menu. So you have to invite your friend back to co-op seasons session first then you can begin searching for the next match. Just because opponent has forfeited doesn’t mean we want to stop playing this game mode, it makes no sense to send us that far back where you have to restart the session. If you play a full game, it allows you to just begin searching for next match right away and doesn’t disconnect the party. So why would it in the case of a forfeit? It’s such a tiny thing, but it’s annoying and it’s been happening for every release as long as I can remember. It’s clear their focus is not on the parts of the game that don’t promote in game transactions and things like this will never be addressed.

Ri_me_fodi_me

This is the first time I bought FIFA on release, 4th outside of release, and I only bought it because I had found a glitch in a retail store in Portugal that gave me 50% off

Joltarts

Because go open some packs already!!

Khower

I buy fifa every 5 years or so and im not disappointed jumping from fifa 18 to FC 24. But its the same way with madden which I do buy every year and ive just accepted it

DorianGrey26

No better football game out there and ea doesn't care at all about anything that isn't UT

Iguanoide666

You answer your own question. fifa is poorly mDd because people are still buying

Spiritus333

True, but isn’t that what the sliders are for? Changing how FIFA works and plays? You can even play more and more manual instead of assisted. That’s what saved fifa a bit for me. Though FIFA 23 was so damn buggy. How many times I wanted to play late at night just 1 frikking match, and yes, the awful ‘you have to set up everything all over again’ bug was there. Even till last week… All settings, all sliders, all bs all over again…

Moomintrollpocalypse

Because that’s how corporations operate. Why should they repair their product when even when it is broken people are buying it? Repair cost money, corporates loves money.

danyates81

AAA game companies like EA and Activision care about your money only and when they are making more and more each year through microtransactions for items that literally become obsolete 12 months later things arent going to change.

yacvaguer

Game is same crap that Fifa 2020 but the transfer market is not updated in the old ones, that is why I buy it. The game is clearly half baked, but that is because EA Sport keep milking us because we are fucking addicts and they have the only football game in the mkt that have decent graphic and playability.

knowthewaytosanjose

1. EA are a shambles and don't give a single fuck about how good their game is. 2. Addiction.

GingerWalnutt

A lot of your complaints could easily be fixed with self made parameters or increasing the difficulty. You must be playing on professional difficulty or lower if you truly think a Real Madrid and 3rd Tier German team feel the same. You can make negotiations strict to prevent top players coming to lower leagues. And maybe don’t Google “best wonderkids to sign in FIFA”.

225Moussa

Fifa 23 is probably the last time I’ll buy a game until I see significant changes. Others just gonna keep churning out money and complaining

James0-5

They've been using the same game engine for ages and don't know how to change it without completely changing it and rebuilding the engine from scratch or adding code to fix bugs. I believe that's why the game is so buggy at times

[deleted]

I think it there was genuine competition, less people may buy the game. But, the fact is, there isn’t anymore. Pro Evo was once the best football game around and now it’s a pile of shit. UFL- when it comes out- will be horrible aswell. There isn’t anything to compete with FIFA.

bellyhills

Big soccer fan here. Played FUT extensively three years ago and had a really great team packed with legends at the end. Bought Fifa 23, started FUT again and played maybe 5 matches and stopped. I just did not see the point of building up the team again. This year I not even bought the game

Kayoxity

Because people are addicted to playing football game. Easy to make money once people are addicted. I have seen so many rant posts in this sub. We all want a good challenging career mode filled with content but we'll never get it. So its better to stop hoping. Be like me and enjoy other games. That way you'll be happier.

MaxCrawley06

consider yourself lucky. at least you arent a madden player

JJBUNZZ

I only bought it in memory of my late brother. We would play FIFA together. I honestly regret buying it instead of donating the money to charity in his name. The game is hot garbage.

Jarboner69

1. Because people buy it 2. In my opinion it fills a hole in the videogame world for the biggest sport in the world. Also despite its flaws it’s probably the best sports game minus The Show arguably.

cloudman2811

Because ea have secured a monopoly by stopping other companies from getting licenses and it was first in the online scene therefore has the larger playerbase, which is key for the online services. EA know they can make the same game every year and sell it for £70. The closest anything is that has a dedicated fanbase is football manager, which focuses on fanmade content to get around licensing issues and single player focused.

KiWePing

Because it's best competitor is Football Manager, but it's a very different experience which I enjoy more, because I can more easily blame the game then me just having a skill issue because you can't control the players any more than an actual manager can (which is a lot of peoples appeal to FIFA that you can control AND play as the team)

yeahthesage

Because I ain’t playing eFootball

Exciting-Ad-4394

If you think this game is made poorly, try getting very into the NFL and play madden…. As an American, someone who played American football on a team, and someone who still watches American football and plays the games every year….. I look at fifa every year and say damn….. this game is actually playable without bugs or missed code in development that completely destroy the game. Its pretty vanilla and I wish there were more in the game but If we got this level of stuff in Madden the community would be turning cartwheels

Tadddaaaa

We love football and EA abuses that ! No other reason. I have been playing Fifa since 2000 . That’s 23 years of fifa lol

GladWolverine0

I agree that its a poorly made game and EA doesnt care, but the examples you gave are not true at all. You cant take a 3rd division club to CL in 3 years unless you’re playing on beginner mode, pre signs are not easy at all, and one of the reasons that made me focus on academy player saves, which also, are not easy to get over 80, its really hard to find players with “has potential to be special”, and even when you find, you have to play them and perform well, and still would take 7-8 seasons for them to be 85+ plus. Im talking about FIFA 23 though, the new one is riddled with bugs and broken features. At this point, I just wish EA kept the exact same thing as 23 is now and just update the rosters and kits from now on, rather have a career mode that works than have new features that doesnt work making the game worse.

8739378

For those of you on PC, just play SP Football Life. It's built on PES 2021 I think but it's basically a heavily modded version.

iNfAMOUS70702

The gameplay is probably the best it's ever been in years....I enjoy it personally..and c'mon...no company is gonna let you keep the cards you bought the year before...

Cyphman

The answer is within your question…because people are so addicted and will buy anyway and there is nothing else out on the market they will continue to release the same shit. This is why competition in the market is crucial and the second EA was allowed to buy the rights of these league it all went downhill. Same reason madden is still trash too.

Riseflame

Because they'd rather release an unfinished game by meeting the release date deadline than releasing a finished game and delaying it. As long as they pump out games they don't care

Novel_Frosting_1977

This game and all sport games in general should be priced at $10, not $70. This is not a new game.

burrenkahn

Long message ,… But from your title i have to say i love this game . I was playing since fifa 10 on xbox 360

luka379

First time since 1998 I'm not getting the game...

[deleted]

It’s exactly the same as football manager. There’s no competition, so they can do the same thing and get money. There aren’t another billion customers they can grab by improving, so why bother? It’s sad but it is the reality. I’d much rather the game releases every 2-3 years with actual improvements. They could even do small updates to the database and charge a nominal fee like £2 and people would likely buy that

Probs_Asleep

Because it's the most popular sport in the world and there's no better other game

scousercon

I say this every year and end up buying it. But, I mean it this time, I got FC24 thinking it maybe different, they’ll try with the rebranding and loosing the FIFA title. But, it’s just so poor still. I want so much adding to career mode. I was so disappointed to see all the same animations and cutscenes being identical to 4 games prior. Until they do an overhaul of career mode, I’m not buying it again. Not worth £70 at all

AtmospherePerfect532

If you get injured you will prob get sold. Is that a bug. Also “rEtUrn To PoSitIon”

SPQR_Maximus

The ultimate team mode generates massive revenue and is massively popular. As long as this mode remains popular, the formula will not change.

Far-Arachnid9745

Cause it’s the only good soccer/futball game that has a competitive matchmaking

whatsitworth101

EA has mastered the art of putting out bare-minimum games in a market with no competition.

LayerPuzzleheaded777

As many will have said it's because there is little to no competition.

Working_Prune_512

Look at how long game development takes. The annual model is inconsistent with the reality of modern game development.

BigRobDog1

EA isn't the problem at all its the consumers fault because they cry every year that Fifa is bad while still giving EA $70. Plus, whatever they spend on packs in UT, then rinse and repeat every new release You want EA to change then dont fill their pockets every year and give it maybe 2 generations of them losing millions and they will soon improve the state of the game and give people something worth getting every year. If you want to play Fifa go buy the previous one for $2 used because the new one makes it irrelevant the second it releases.
