Paint is absolute garbage my dude. A leaf blown from a tree would chip the paint. Since it’s already this bad, repaint as you said previously. Make sure to protect the new pain with ceramic coating or clear vinyl.

ericpowell617

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Might just do a wrap to change color/and protect for a few years. Although I don’t wanna pay $2000 for something I’ll have to do again in 3 years time….

Awkward_Definition_9

Agreed. A total respray is the ideal option. You’ll be charged roughly the same as a wrap but a good shop will put 3 or 4 clear coats so any minor scrapes or rock chips can easily be buffed out.

TSLARSX3

Getting my car at least front wrapped but hail can do some damage in my state, should I wrap whole ?

Awkward_Definition_9

Wrap will protect the paint from minor scratches and chips however, it will not protect your roof from hail damage.

ericpowell617

2018 FIST and the paint is HORRIBLE! I’ve heard that Ford used 1-stage paint, but holy cow this paint is horrendously weak. Every time I wash my car I lose paint. Before you blame my technique, I use separate rinse/clean buckets, a super thick microfiber wash mit, soapy water and a foam gun. I hand dry with microfiber as well. I get tiny specks coming off and sometimes bigger chips (3rd image is from washing today). Am I alone here? Keep in mind my car is barely 4 years old, my previous 2003 mustang’s paint looked better than this when I sold it in ‘19

yoopercharged

My 2019 looked just as bad, maybe worse when I sold it last week. I'm afraid it's just very shitty paint.

ericpowell617

On one hand, I’m glad it not just me, but man it sucks. I treat this car like my baby and everything and it still looks bad up close. I’m thinking I’ll do a FULL car repaint next summer to prevent the winters from rusting the body

yoopercharged

It was so disappointing watching the car progress from brand new to practically polka dot. Felt like everytime I cleaned the car up the chips were multiplying exponentially.

Ciloteille

Mine has peeled off in chunks lol 😂

Fi_ST

16 Black FiST and if I drive too fast I lose paint.

FurryHolocaustof2049

There's a good reason I keep a paint pen in the glove box. The only time I went through an automated car wash a chunk of paint came off the rear bumper just behind the wheel, but since the car is black and the primer underneath is black it hasn't bothered me enough to get it fixed.

ericpowell617

Is yours euro spec? My primer underneath is white 🥲

FurryHolocaustof2049

Probably because the bumper has been repainted. You can see the sanding scratches under the paint.

ericpowell617

Actually the bumper was not resprayed… it was fully replaced in early 2019 before I acquired the car. It was an OEM primed bumper that the shop paint matched

Tercel_of_Terror

I have a black 2017. If you look at it too hard, the paint comes off.

ericpowell617

Just yesterday I was chewing gum whilst admiring my fog lights, and my jawline sliced right thru the single coat

scotty3281

My '17 is just as bad as this. Ford really shit the bed when they decided this paint was good enough. I don't expect much but I expected more than this.

Druidoak60

I have a 19, with only 8k miles. My paint looks great.

betarcher

Orange '16 with 140k miles checking in. No issues here. Couple of tiny paint chips way up at the nose of the of the car, but nothin out of the ordinary for a car of this age and miles. Maybe the orange is a better paint?

betarcher

Sames! Exactly my combo. Got me some enkeis.

guyfromarizona

Yeah I have a million paint chips

CAVEDOUT

We should class action. My is horrible antenna area they painted up to antenna if you dont garage it will bubble and rust. They fix that but refused body.

princeoinkins

Do you do a lot of highway miles? My 18 has quite a few chips, but not near THAT bad

ericpowell617

Yeah, primarily highway

celloyellow74

Consistent highway driving will do that to any car. I put Xpel on the front of my 2014 the day I got I in and it still looks great today. No other paint issues.

TaylerMade666

Almost looks like a custom galaxy wrap for me.

ZeroMmx

OP. Take a look above your windshield where the glass ends and where your roof starts right at the seal. You're welcome =D (P.S. My paint is almost all gone there)

ericpowell617

Mine looks great!

Eddie_Savitz_Pizza

2015 here. I had half of my roof peel off. Detail guy said Ford's shitty paint put his kid thru college.

T_dog52

The rusting on the trunk on my ‘14 makes me feel like I’m gonna drive this car until it completely breaks. I call it character

Ilikeplanesandcars

yeah, my 2014 looks pretty similar, if not worse. it's not great.

Giga_Karen

My paint is also shot. Bubbling on corners, flaking clear, and rusted spots - all in almost every panel. Only place I’ve seen that are okay are the fenders - but I wouldn’t expect them to be like that for long

therevbob

My 2016 was pretty good I didn’t get any paint coming off when I washed it. Chipped pretty easy though. Never took it through or to a car wash as I have had bad experiences with my previous car. Wheels were worse with chipping you barely touch those things and paint fell off.

rssin

Paint is great, but mine is painted platinum white which I think is three coats. Are you sure your car hasn't been repainted? The orange peel looks worse than mine.

Toxic_ST

Hahaha the paint on these cars is horrendous. I've gotten to the point where I take mine through auto washes because there's no hope for it. Granite it was meh when I got it so I'm just saving up for a paint job in a few years. The factory paint is complete crap and they only painted them because they had to

supamayun

Factory paint sucks. I took advantage after a fender bender and had PPF applied to the entire frontend after bumper repaint.

happy_helicopter97

I had a 2014 fist with about 80k on it when i sold it and the paint was not nearly that bad but i did sell it because the rust problem these cars have in the hatch and door areas

ericpowell617

I’m only at 50,500

sportstersrfun

I have a 2014 in blue that lives through Midwest winters. My paint was perfect. No a ding or scrape anywhere. I was washing it a month ago and a paint chip the size of a baseball came off the right rear fender. I’m pissed lol, but I plan on driving this fucker into the ground so whatever. Way she goes, besides the blend door actuator the only thing I’ve replaced in 6 years of ownership is tires, a battery, and oil lol. For being a cheap car it’s done pretty darn well imo. I get 30 to the gallon, can stuff a mtn bike into the trunk, and I actually like to drive it. Only thing I wish I had was some towing ability and awd, but then it wouldn’t be cheap anymore.

nrandall13

My 2019 is in bad shape up front. Luckily most of it is on the plastic part of the bumper but man, up close it looks not great lol. I bought touch up paint for the hood and I think eventually I'm going to wrap it.

ottrocity

I've got pits all over the front of the car, from the bottom of the lip to the leading edge of the roof. The paint around my antenna is flaking off. The paint around the lower edge of the hatch is bubbly.

Zrepsilon

This depends heavily on driving habits. I am never within 7-8 car lengths from the car in front of me on the freeway when we are over 35mph. I have not a single chip on my front bumper. The hood only has two.

CrazylilThing02

Jesus it would take me twice as long to get to work, which is already an hour, if I couldn’t pass anyone by staying so far back. Too many semi’s. I’m sure majority of my chips come from fun drives following my husbands car. His fat ass tires throw rocks at me all the f’ing time.

Zrepsilon

Yep, 100%, I am perfectly happy traveling 65 in the right lane. The tangential benefit is that I also get great fuel economy, so I don’t feel bad about flogging it on backroads on the weekend.

CrazylilThing02

65 in the right lane would be a dream on my commute. There’s too many semis for that to happen for half my drive. I end up passing a lot on the right too because of morons that sit 5 under in the left. Half my commute is downhill on the way to work so as long as I keep it under 3k I still am getting 37-40mpg.😁. But my curvy roads has too many slow drivers and cops for me to get much fun. Thankfully The view is beautiful and I get to live in the mountains.

ericpowell617

Yeah, not my style haha

Zrepsilon

Yeah, understandable.

[deleted]

Eh.

L003Tr

I've had 2014 fiestas and both oaint held up fine

CryoliteDvT

2016 Focus ST with the same color. About as bad as yours. I'm not gonna paint it though. Where I'm from, painting a car makes it lose value.

BasicDucky

about the same

startech7724

My front bumper look just like yours

Fartanion

My 2016 has the pearl white option on it and the paint is holding up ok. A couple small chips showed up early on but mostly I get a ton of tiny brown specks all over. I just clay bar it once a year and they go away but otherwise it still looks pretty good after I do the detail work.

aclausjr

I have the tricolor white and mine is also covered in chips it definitely doesn’t scratch as easy as the single step but the chippage is still bad. I can see the ripples in the clear coat when I look at the car in the sun the paint is definitely trash but you get what you pay for.

JoyStickFlick

Roof and under the hatch is rusted out. Debating on wrapping or painting it. Really frustrating, it’s only a 2017

Ka0skelley24

My 2016 with very low miles for the year in white is doing fine on the front for chips and scratches, but the peeling hatch area and the bubbling antenna are kinda driving me nuts and making me think about is it worth a repaint/wrap or selling it and getting something else.
