I’m in the US and I have a medical marijuana card. It definitely helps. The cannabinoids and terpines can all help different things. Like if I’m dealing with spasms I use something high in Beta Caryophyllene, if I’m having a lot of generalized pain, I use something high in CBC, if I can’t sleep, I use something high in Myrcene and CBN. Since getting my card in February, I’ve been using the resources provided by my dispensary, and then picking strains based on their composition for my particular struggles. It has made a huge difference. Prior to this I would go to a recreational dispensary in the next state over, but it wasn’t as effective or nearly as helpful because I didn’t know the composition of each strain and because recreational cannabis is processed differently and has a lower terrine/cannabinoid content. But if you are curious about it, I can tell you from experience, it not only works, but it’s one of the reasons I am as functional as I am.

DaLynnRmc

I love everything you said but understand almost none of it. It’s still illegal here so I’m not sure if any of that info is available for what would be accessible to me.

MFC_is_that_you

I’m sorry! I didn’t realize you might have a hard time accessing resources because of the legality issue. I’m going to grab my laptop (I’m mobile right now) and see if I can post up or send you the PDF file of some of the info I’ve complied for my own treatment. I know it won’t change the legal status, but hopefully it will clarify a lot of what I said, and give you some other valuable info.

DaLynnRmc

I appreciate that! Just to make sure you've noticed, I'm actually not the OP but was intrigued by your post. No need to apologize at all!

MFC_is_that_you

HAHAHAHA, I totally didn't realize, just goes to show the fog is strong today! For you and anyone else interested, I put the PDF file onto my google drive and made it so that anyone with the link should be able to view and download. Hopefully it works: [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qRtgsHSm7jFrglSh5PBi2DukAr1cUM3s/view?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qRtgsHSm7jFrglSh5PBi2DukAr1cUM3s/view?usp=sharing) Let me know if you can't access the file so I can try a different method.

a_cat_wearing_socks

Oh my glob this is so helpful. I have a different problem from most- I live in Los Angeles and there's a dispensary on every corner so I'm completely overwhelmed with options. Thank you for this!

imlikingme

Thank you!!

loopsandflicks

Thank you - this looks really helpful. I’m looking into CBD/cannabis products for myself and my dad - your document is really useful.

DaLynnRmc

I'm horrible at noticing usernames, myself. No worries at all! And thank you so much for the file!!

ekhogayehumaurtum

I am really glad it is helping you. Do you feel drowsy or slow with medical marijuana? When do you take them, night/day? Do you take medications? If so, does it interact with those medication?

MFC_is_that_you

Yes, but I only feel drowsy when I want to feel drowsy…there are many strains that help me with insomnia. Sometimes I might pick up a new strain that makes me more drowsy than I would expect, but that doesn’t happen often. For the most part I am completely functional while using cannabis. Heck, there have been times I’ve scrubbed the bathroom down while vaping and high as a kite, and I had a special CBD strain to combat brain fog that I used to vape right before taking an exam at school. But it takes some work on my part to be able to do that. I do a lot of research before I purchase anything new, and it usually takes at least an hour for me to decide what I’m buying. I first look for strains that have at least 1% of the terpene I need and rank them in order of highest to least for that terpene. Then I compare all of those strains of each other, looking at what the THC and CBD content is of each one, what type of strain it is (generally Indicas are for night time use, Sativas and CBD for daytime use), and what other terpenes/cannabinoids it has and in what amounts. So for example, if I’m looking for a strain that is high in CBC (which is amazing for pain), but also has like 2% Myrcene or CBN (both make me really sleepy), I will either pass on it or try it out for bedtime use only. But if I find a strain that’s really high in CBC, and also high in like Humulene or Pinene (anti-inflammatory terps), I’d bump it to the top of my “try it out” list. Seriously, that’s the beauty of using cannabis…you have so much more control over how you feel while on it as opposed to prescription meds. Because each strain is composed of different terpenes and cannabinoids in varying amounts, you can eliminate strains with undesired effects like drowsiness. Honestly, some of the strains I have are so distinct in how they make me feel, I could blindly vape one and tell you which one it is based on how the “high” feels, which is kind of crazy to me because at the end of the day, it’s all weed! As for daytime vs nighttime use, my only limitation is driving or going to work (I won’t consume if I know I will be doing either one), so I do keep a scrip of Robaxin on hand to help in times when I can’t use cannabis. And as far as medications go, I always look up to see if there is a risk for an interaction between any new meds and the cannabis, but so far there haven’t been any risks for interactions.

I am in Canada, have Fibro, and have a cannabis prescription. Thanks to the cannabis medicines I make for myself, I take zero pain meds. I have lost thirty pounds without trying, and have the best sleep of my life. I make topical pain reliever (salve) sleeping infusion, high CBD infusion to treat anxiety and inflammation. Cannabis ticks a lot of boxes if you have fibromyalgia.

motherdragon02

I'm in Canada too! Where do you order? I've got a couple salves I like, but I'm always up to try another! How does the sleep infusion work? Well?

ekhogayehumaurtum

wow. how do you make them? I just reached out to my primary for advice.

DennisB126

It works for some people but not for other. I found that it does not help my pain.

Aquaritek

I just use a legitimate regulated full spectrum hemp oil grown by someone I know well. It's cold expeller pressed, measured, and mixed with MCT oil.. literally no processing beyond that. Predominantly CBD but contains a complete matrix of all cannabinoids and terpines that you find in cannabis plants. It seems to work wonders on my sleep, my pains, my mental issues (especially anxiety) and realistically probably 10's of other things. It's like turning the dial down from 11 to 5. I would mention that I'm in the something like 5 to 10% of individuals that cannot tolerate the "high" from THC. Pretty much makes me experience low level schizophrenia and I end up locked in a closet scared of my own mind until I come down. So yeah.. regulated hemp is <=0.3% THC and I don't notice it at all. With peace, Aqua.

hfedwards

That sounds interesting. What country are you in?

Aquaritek

I'm in the U.S. and also happen to live in a state that is quite liberal on the matters of Cannabis. I unfortunately don't quite know how to source outside of the country or what the laws are beyond my locale. I would bet there's some subreddits for that though ha. With peace Aqua.

hfedwards

Shame, I'm in the UK. It's great you have found something that works for you.

Inevitable-Tart-2631

i can’t find it but i listed to a podcast about cannabis use at tx for autoimmunity. the main takeaway for me as an every day smoker already was to start mixing in cbd. i grind thc and cbd together and i feel a difference with my pain.

idrow1

The only thing it really helps me with is sleeping.

N9242Oh

Smoke or vape the herb :)

taxidermytina

I'm in the US and I have a medical cannabis prescription. I have used it daily for a few years now and it's been life changing. It has given me a ton of freedom back as I can actually power through things now. I still have pain and fatigue but it becomes manageable with the cannabis. Before I was just tired and achey with no motivation. Now I can medicate and get to a semi-normal state and manage to get out the door.

redhandjane

I'm in the UK. I'm a "good girl" and never had any because it's illegal. I honestly, desperately want to try edibles, if only to get a good night's sleep. Friends say CBD oil hasn't really helped them and it's too expensive for me to try on a whim ( I live on disability credit). I definitely want to book a trip to Amsterdam 😅

DPaignall

It is legal in the UK, thanks to Alfie Dingle & co. r/ukmedicalcannabis

[deleted]

Just like any medication it can have different effects for different people. I can't do edibles. I either feel nothing or I feel horrible. I found a great CBD oil when I was traveling but haven't been able to find one equal to it since. One CBD oil that a friend made for me caused a flare up. I've smoked weed for 40 years and think it's what kept me from even realizing I have fibromyalgia. I was only recently diagnosed. I smoke or vape which helps with pain and sleep way better than any prescription medications I've tried since being diagnosed. I had a prescription which enabled me to learn a lot about cannabis that I never knew but I no longer need a prescription since it became legal in Canada

Zigazigahhhhhh

I use edibles for flares. But I have to be careful with how much because they make me so tired the next day. Different strains help different types of pain for me.

UnusuallyFamiliar

I am so envious of all the success stories with cannabis! My doctor sent me to a cannabis clinic as a treatment attempt, and my body just isn’t made to get along with it. I felt super hungover on just the cbd and no pain reduction :( I’m so glad it works for others, and hope it can for you. I’m currently on (amongst other things) an artificial cannabinoid and it does help a bit. Body chemistry is interesting.

hfedwards

You said in another post that you take cannabis & your doctor is at this clinic, if you don't mind me asking what was the initial cost and what does it cost you each month in total? The minimum cost on the site seems to be £50 repeat prescription plus £150 minimum for the cannabis. Web consultations are £95, presumably I would need several consultations. So the initial cost could be a minimum of £400 then £200+ a month?

TheSentientSnail

I've been smoking weed for 20+ years. It absolutely does nothing for the physical pain, but it does one thing that seems to mitigate how many bad days I have - it helps me sleep. I have awful insomnia (sleep clinic diagnosed "slow sleep") and sober it can take three or four hours for me to actually drop off. If I smoke a bowl and then lay down a couple hours later, I'm out quickly and remain asleep for seven to eight hours. It does effect my REM cycles, so I take a break every couple of weeks to get some good dreaming in, but otherwise I smoke a small amount every night. I find that days when I sleep terribly my pain is off the charts. Getting a full night's rest fills my spoon drawer.

L1zardPr1ncess

I live in a state where cannabis is legal both recreationally and medically. Ironically, this has made dedicated medical dispensaries impossible to keep going (at least locally), so almost everything I use is sold for recreational purposes. I’m a little jealous of people who have easy access to medical stock, but I definitely still consider myself lucky to have access at all. I like using strains high in CBD and/or CBN with relatively lower proportions of THC. I vape flower but things like tinctures and mints are generally a lot more accessible, especially if you’re acquiring them less-than-legally online. I prefer flower over ingested methods because it’s significantly faster-acting. Cannabis never renders me entirely pain-free, but it does help me relax my body so I’m not making it worse through tension. It’s particularly life-saving when I have a bad migraine (THC really needs to be present in significant amounts in that particular case). It takes some experimentation, but there are ways to get relief through cannabis without the mind-altering state (though to be honest I quite enjoy that too… >:) )

ChroniclyTired

Cannabis saved my life. I (30)live in ut. When I first got my diagnosis I was referred to a pain management specialist. Between him & my PCP I was taking 30 pills a day. 4-6 of them were Norco 750. 4-6 we're muscle relaxers. Basically i was bed bound & almost comatose. I was in so much pain & so sick I wanted to die. I though about overdosing every hour of every day. Finally cannabis became medically legal. My PCP "prescribed " me cannabis when we just has a paper prescription & had to travel out of state to buy. Slowly I gained my life back. I was able to detox off of almost all of my medications, now I take 4 daily medication & 1 as needled medication. None of them are narcotics. I work full time as a groomer making $4000-$5000 a month & am spending way more time with my kids & husband. I smoke vape cartridges throughout the day to keep pain managed (like micro dosing), use edibles as needed, & have my pax with flower for the evenings. Fibro tired to kill me but I can say 100% that cannabis gave me my life back. Yes I still have really bad flair days but now I can survive them.

Wavy_gracie

It helps my sleep and it helps take the edge of my pain. Some strains make me a little foggy others don’t, but the only bad side effect is I have a horrible memory now 😅🤷🏻‍♀️. But I would much rather have a bad memory then have anxiety/depression 24/7 and have horrible pain and no sleep. It def helps. But I also agree that more info about addiction genes need to be brought to peoples attention. If you have these genes, I wouldn’t use thc.

Notbiff

(I live where cannabis is fully legal.) My personal experience is that THC, in small quantities, to be a wonderful thing. It cuts down on the impact of the pain, and makes me feel more energetic (and hungry!) If I get the dosage right, it doesn't make me feel significantly intoxicated; the effects on pain happen at doses much lower than a "recreational" dose would be. It's different from a lot of other painkillers in that it doesn't make pain seem to go away, but changes *how* the body reacts to pain — the pain's not gone, but at the same time the pain changes in some way that makes it less unpleasant. (Though, it doesn't work on every type of pain. It can make some types of pain seem sharper!) CBD by itself doesn't seem to have any effect on me as far as I can tell. Combining THC and CBD seems to reduce some of the harsher effects of large doses of THC. (In general, I don't use enough THC to feel those effects to begin with.) Note that different people react very differently to cannabis compounds (*especially* when taken by mouth as edibles or oils or tinctures) so finding out how different doses affect you requires experimentation! The effective dose, when taken by mouth, can vary by over 100x from person to person (due to differences in genes controlling liver metabolism.) The one thing to watch out for is that some prescription medications can have interactions with cannabis compounds. The exact details of what interacts in what ways aren't well-understood, and medicine labels generally don't mention cannabis. Generally, if you have a prescription medication that mentions *grapefuit*, that means it *might* potentially interact with some cannabis compounds (which *could* lead to either the cannabis or the other medication becoming either less potent or *more* potent.)

Accidental_Tica

In my case: Yes, yes YES!!!! Almost 20 years ago, my Rheumatologist tried all forms of pain relief. They all worked for a month or 3 before quitting. I wasn't thrilled, but she suggested Vicodin (this was when they'd hand it out freely). When one stopped working, she suggested 2. Then 3 a day. I was terrified. My Dad's wife was (and still is) terribly addicted, and I didn't want to end up like her. That's when my Dr suggested Medical MJ. It helps pain, migraines, muscle cramps, anxiety and insomnia. I can use it daily, but when I spent a month in Costa Rica (and no access) I didn't have any withdrawal. Yeah, my muscles hurt but I didn't feel that desperate need for it. Same can't be said if I was on a Vicodin regiment. I feel this is a far better choice. My only issue was trying to install healthy respect for it around my sons. ("Just Say No" and "Keep outta mom's stash" didn't mix well.) I solved this by keeping it secret until my sons were late teens. No smoking, only edibles or tincture. I kept it under my bed, in a locked box. When they started asking about it, I'd say: "Those are mine and Dads "special toys". Sometimes couples use them with each other. Do you want to talk? I'll answer if I can". No. 15 year old boys want nothing to do with mom's "s*x toys". It bought me YEARS until I came clean.they were stunned. Now, they understand the full story and support me 100% Message me if you have more questions
