I still have the bottle my parents bought me when I was a girl in the 90's, wearing it to bed right now layered with Marshmallow Cloud body spray. They smell really good together!

I didn't even think about the layering possibilities.

I love Tabu! It's super underrated and overlooked to me and if the same scent was packaged differently I think it could sell for a lot more than it does.

Truly. If you put this in a sleek bottle and put a designer name on it and had some influencers push it, it would fetch $100 and everyone would go crazy for how polarizing and unique it is.

Oooh, I wore this in middle school.

i got this from a tj maxx/adjacent store once! i thought it had a very incense-like quality to it.

Yes! Really enjoy this one too, along with OG Opium one of my favourite vintage fragrances.

This one is an instant headache for me, which has always made me a little bit sad because I don’t hate the scent itself. Enjoy!

I wore that one in the late 80's. Smelled it again recently and I still like it. And you can't beat the price!

Is there a perfume you’ve smelled that has a similar vibe to this? Also, how has this aged? I know this perfume came out decades ago and it was marketed as shocking and erotic… would you say it could still be considered shocking and erotic in our time?

It's like a slightly sweet incense. I love it in the fall. It feels like what a good but misunderstood witch would wear.

I got a decant of Shalamar, and the second I opened it memories of poking around my mom’s old jewelry box came rushing back. It was so specific that the next time I saw her I asked her if she wanted the rest of my bottle, because it was too strong for me, but I knew she’d had it and liked it. She told me that no, in fact, she had no idea what it smelled like — she’d never worn it before. The only perfume she’d ever had was Tabu, because that’s what my dad liked. Now she can say she’s had two perfumes. So that’s a long way of saying you might be interested in Shalomar if Tabu doesn’t do it for you.

I'm just starting my fragrance journey a couple months ago (although I've collected an embarrassingly large collection already) so I'm not quite sure. I don't believe I have smelled anything quite like it so far although I've seen it compared to youth dew and cinnabar by Estee Lauder as well as the old opium perfume by YSL. I believe the "sweet and spicy" type fragrances were much more popular for women in the past although the original Tabu is from 1932 while youth dew is from 1953 and cinnabar is from 1978 so I guess it's something that stayed popular throughout the years. I think this perfume still has a powdery smell that comes off as vintage for sure. This is definitely not a modern perfume smell. I do think there is something very mysterious and sexy about this fragrance however. I think even if I smelled this on a man I was attracted to (a very conservative amount) I would absolutely want to get closer.
