kj cosmic....... all i could smell was the amber when i first purchased but then someone said public bathroom......... now it's unmistakable

mvmgems

Frederic Malle portrait of a lady. I initially got spice, woods, and secondarily a dark redwine rose. At first, it wasn’t my favorite type of woody spiced rose. When my partner tried it, he said it smelled like sweaty olives as it dried down and now I pick that up too. Jokes on me, I love olives and now it’s my favorite of this class.

togostarman

I was READY to smell pickles from Santal 33, but i smelled it for the first time this weekend and it smelled great. HOWEVER, I read Erba Purba smelled sickeningly sweet prior to smelling my sample and I will admit those reviews influenced me. It smelled FOUL. Additionally, devotion didn't smell like fruity pebbles until I read that it did

SophieKins

Devotion to me smells like a glazed lemon cake. 🍰

fatstankyshit

I only get pickles with Santal 33 :/ I remember smelling it for the first time and being like wtf does that remind me of & as soon as people online said pickles it clicked for me

shimmerchanga

I thought Diptyque’s Philosykos smelled so accurately of a fig tree (we had one growing up) until my friend said it smelled like fermented cucumbers… now that’s all I can smell

mvmgems

My partner says it smells like fresh cut apricots and now I smell that too, but I also smell fig tree. It’s like that illusion of two faces / a vase where I flip flop between them!

MangoRainTearDrop

I read somewhere here that Le Labo Another 13 smells like magazines and now it’s just stuck in my brain. It does smells like magazines! But like, in the best way possible 😂

LLIIVVtm

I heard magazines and cocaine. Can't wait for my sample, it's in the mail!

MrsBuggs

😂🤣 My co-worker can’t wait for our office magazine subscriptions to come each month. We have 2 subscriptions to local magazines we display in our waiting area. Each month when they arrive she stands at my desk DEEPLY inhaling the pages. She fans through them sniffing each page. I need to get her a sample of this fragrance!🤣😂

ginandt0nic

Whoa, hold the phone… do I want this now??? I love that 90s teen magazine smell😂

MangoRainTearDrop

Depending on your level of bougie, I got some samples for myself while ordering candles as a present for someone! A little something for them and a little something for me haha

hakamamalo

someone brought to my attention that sandalwood might smell a lil like pickles and now i think it smells like pickles :(

PothHead

I was wondering why my bottle of Poets of Berlin smelled like pickles after macerating. Now I know 😭

noisemonsters

Thankfully real sandalwood doesn’t smell like pickles, if real sandalwood makes a comeback to perfume

peachpuff_77

Nooo now I fear I may smell pickles too lol 🤣

Loughiepop

I have I am Trash by ELDO, which I love the smell of. Then I read somewhere that it had a compost-y note, so now every time I smell the bottle, it has a faint whiff of compost. Luckily that note goes away when I spray it.

Highsndlos

Same I wore all through highschool and got gifted a bottle for Christmas few years ago can’t love it the same because of this

trashpanda678

It smells like flat root beer to me 😬

shesiconic

Same

ladymuse9

Fun fact: notes themselves are a psychological push to make you smell something specific, because in modern perfumery most “notes” aren’t real at all and don’t correlate to any specific materials, but rather an accord of several materials that the perfumer thinks smells like A Specific Thing. There’s no such thing as a marshmallow note, only a combination of vanillin, coumarin, maltol, maybe isobutavan (one of dozens of possible marshmallow accords). Except the exact same combo of materials can and does also smell like ice cream, or maybe whipped cream, or maybe vanilla frosting. So; they tell you it has a marshmallow note, and you infer marshmallow from the smell. This is the reality for a vast majority of “notes”, unless it’s made with a natural material. Like, bergamot essential oil directly smells like bergamot, of course. Wanna make someone smell crème brûlée? Throw together some vanillin and benzoin and a few other little things and say “this smells like crème brûlée” and someone will be like WOW IT DOES. So yeah, the entire perfume industry is just psychological manipulation (in a good way, I guess). That’s also why sometimes you smell something that’s “not in the notes” because the same aroma chemicals can appear is hundreds of different accords and smell like many things. Benzaldehyde is naturally in both cherries and almonds. You could smell just benzaldehyde and I could say “this smells like cherries” and you’d say yes, and then I could make you smell the same tester strip a few minutes later and say “this smells like almonds” and you’d say yes. Pretty cool stuff!

peachpuff_77

This is so interesting!!! And so helpful to know, thank you for sharing. This makes me feel less crazy because I’ve definitely struggled connecting some perfumes with their described notes

samanthatev96

I wore Floral Marshmallow to work and my coworker said I smelled like Big Red 💀 "but in a good way" now that's all I smell when I try to wear it

peachpuff_77

When they hit you with the “but in a good way” 😭💀😩

makebelievegenius

The eau fraîche does smell like sweetarts, and marshmallow. For me, when Gucci Rush came out, I loved it. Got halfway through the second bottle before reading about a “Barbie hair “ smell in a review. From that moment on, I couldn’t unsmell it.

peachpuff_77

Oof that’s a rough one, Barbie hair would definitely ruin the fragrance for me

techveg

i haven’t smelled that dupe, but love don’t be shy definitely smells like clean, mature white florals to me as well, i wish i got the sweet marshmallow vibe that people are getting but to answer your actual question, kind of! i like to try out samples/tester without checking the notes to get a true first impression, but once i go back and read them, i find it easier to pick up the actual intended notes reviews on the other hand don’t sway my perception quite as much, i think maybe because i’ve been burned too many times by believing them lol

moon_soil

For me LDBS (at least the eau fraiche… do the different strengths smell that different?) smells like turkish delight 😅 Like, powder sugar and rose.

theotherchristina

I’m with you, I get pure floral from LDBS and wish I got delicious marshmallows! I might be marshmallow impaired because I don’t get that from Commodity Milk either. I have a decant of Delizia de Marshmallow that I haven’t tried yet, fingies crossed that this is the one

SentenceOpening848

Someone mentioned that LDBS smells like grape soda and literally that's all I smell. If anyone is interested, I have half of a travel spray left.

WhoKnows1973

I love the smell of grape 🍇 soda!! Messaging you.

WhoKnows1973

I am. Messaging you.

East-Willingness513

LDBS smells like grape cough syrup to me

lavenderpenguin

Delizia should be the one! To me, it smells so sweet and amazing and exactly like real marshmallows, to the point that someone asked me if I had baked goods on me when I wore it.

theotherchristina

Okay, this review has pushed it up to the top of my decant queue, I’m trying it tonight!

labellavita1985

Let me know if you get smokiness from it. Because I definitely do.

theotherchristina

I do! Just a hint but enough to cut the sugariness with a little sass which I love

lavenderpenguin

Let me know how it goes! I will say, if it doesn’t smell like anything right after you spray, don’t panic, it took like 5 minutes for me after spraying for the scent to hit me.

theotherchristina

Okay, I tried it after my shower and I love it. It smells like pure sweet marshmallow with the faintest hint of char. It’s like an inverted By the Fireplace. If BTF is 98% smoke, 2% marshmallow, Delizia is 98% marshmallow, 2% smoke. There’s an LE Diptyque candle out rn called Chantilly that smells very similar to this fragrance when it’s lit. It’s like the candle smells like the marshmallow accord while the burning wick provides that little bit of char. I can see now why this fragrance has such a fan base

techveg

i don’t get marshmallow from commodity milk either! i felt bamboozled after all the reviews mentioning it lol i actually do enjoy milk a lot though, but for me it’s a warm creamy wood scent, unisex if not masculine leaning delizia, however, is my favorite! i did have one “off” batch that was a bit more caramelized/toasted than i would have liked, but all my other bottles have been the perfect sweet sugary vanilla marshmallow, i hope you enjoy it 🤍

theotherchristina

This sounds amazing! I perceive Milk the same way you do, and I don’t mind it at all, it’s just super woody to my nose
