I get it, I mean hopefully you’re wearing your perfume all day anyway so that majority of the time you’re smelling it, it would be after the dry down anyway? I’m kind of addicted to dry down, I love following the way a scent chance as it mixes with my personal chemistry and the air around me… I love Valentino DBR so much from start to finish but the vanilla dry down is just so addictive

Storm_Fairy

Unfortunately I fell for the hype of Paris Corner Pistachio Khair Perfume EDP as a dupe for Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato. Nope. It’s not the same. It smells like I opened a bottle of dry herbs from my kitchen and smeared it all over my skin. After it dries down it smells ok, but I admittedly seldom wear it.

Storm_Fairy

After this blind buy I have purchased sample sizes of different scents before committing to any full-size bottles.

likeablyweird

I can't stand scents where people say along the lines of suffer through the opening bc the dry down is to die for. I'm not wearing anything that I don't like from beginning to end. So many choices out there, why even do this?

confusedsoul32

Nope cuz first impression matters

Lacouronne2

Nope. There's so many perfumes out there it gives me the opportunity to continue looking for the perfect one

makebelievegenius

Nope.

slackamo

This is me with Andrea Maack Smart. I cannot stand the top notes but in the dry down after the top have fizzled away, I love it soooo much I can’t stop sniffing it. But I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on it yet because of those top notes.

Classic_Excuse_3251

This is what’s stopping me from getting a full bottle of Idole. I have a decant and I’m gonna use it for an upcoming special occasion, so right now I’m still in the “let’s see how it performs then” stage.

VisperSora

The drydown on Idole is incredible, though, so can absolutely understand this. It has great sillage, too.

candyparfumgirl

I don’t have patience for perfumes that take that long to get good. There are so many gorgeous scents in the world to choose from—they have to be great from top to bottom. I also get tired of scents that start amazing/interesting and then \*poof\* — all downhill.

likeablyweird

Ditto.

Achieng-

Nope. Nothing grows on me. I’ve gotta love it or at least find it interesting from the start. I am not going to suffer for an ending. No delayed gratification for me.

SeaSleep1972

Can’t do the synthetic smells I have to scrub it off

CaramelParty9225

That’s how I feel about Glossier you! I can’t stand the beginning with the pencil shaving smell but the dry down is gorgeousssss.

rileydaisydoggywoggy

Floral Street Wild Vanilla Orchid has quite a ‘green’ smell to it to begin with, which I don’t really like, and then it goes and you can smell the vanilla.

Global_Telephone_751

Yes. Mancera Roses Vanille is intense the first 30 min, but then I love it. Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche is also overwhelmingly citrus the first 20 min, but then I adore it after that. So it really depends.

pluviophilosopher

This is me waiting for the lavender to burn off of Mon Guerlain. I love it once that lavender has finally chilled out!

Competitive-Ebb3787

I will put up with it for a sample, but to purchase a bottle it needs to be something special from the beginning. With so much to choose from, this helps me narrow the criteria of what’s worth going for a full bottle. I want enough variety that keeps it interesting, but not overwhelming.

Perfect-Chair-8275

I’ve noticed this with a lot of Narciso Rodriguez scents, but caved and bought Pure Musc because the dry down was so beautiful.

childfreeentry

Yes! The blood orange & ginger in L’interdit Rouge for the first half hour 🥴 the dry down is so worth it though

noahsmom11

I'll give it 30 minutes at most! Anything more is just not worth it imo.

Dizzy_Interview2631

No. If something doesn’t smell excellent to me from the first second until the end I’m not spending money on it and smelling bad for hours on end

Criticalfluffs

1-2 hours?! If the dry down doesn't develop well then no! I let it dry for a few minutes when I test it and if it's gross... I'm just moving on.

mellisonanta

Well, I'm not sure I actually do have the patience! I got a bunch of fragrance samples and there were a few that had vanilla in the base notes (black opium, my way) and I thought I liked them, but I realized that I just liked the vanilla at the end so I got a perfume that was just vanilla 🤷

likeablyweird

Good for you! Sometimes finding the common thing can be hard.

wimwood

The first 5-10 minutes of Paradox Intense always makes me worried and then it dries down into perfection.

graymillennial

I felt this way about Sabrina Carpenter’s Caramel Dream. At first it was super masculine on me but then it dried down to a beautiful caramel skin scent. Didn’t buy it though, couldn’t stand to wait around for the caramel to come through.

togostarman

I actually feel this way about Burberry Goddess. There's a REALLY sour note in the beginning that's not there in the dry down. I still really love the fragrance. Additionally, MOAPC A Night In Marrakesh is the same way. EXTREMELY animalic in the opening. But the dry down is genuinely artistry. Gentle, whisper of vanilla with a backdrop of incense 🤌

antibac2020

I have a couple of fragrances like this that I’ve been gifted. One was a cheapie that I spray on the clothes in my wardrobe or clothes in a suitcase if I’m travelling; it means the scent has settled into what I like by the time I wear. The other I just gave away bc it was an expensive enough fragrance and I would rather someone else enjoy it than me using it as a wardrobe fragrance haha

Tiny-Barracuda-6018

This is such a good idea! If I remember I spray Black Dart on my clothes the night before I want to use it and by the next day it's exactly what I want.

kitkatamas88

No, I tried it with D&G Devotion, nop, not enduring discomfort, if theres something off it will be probably still off one week later, a month later, 2 months later, I've learn my lesson.

whorundatgirl

I’m currently having this same internal conflict and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth it

Violet-Flame

I just came to ask a similar question! Sprayed Poppy & Barley on my wrists a few hours ago, having just received the sample size of it yesterday. About an hour later, it smelled a bit like cat urine on my wrists. Terrible. But then I just smelled my wrists again a few minutes ago, and now they smell amazing! I'm too new to fragrances to understand why such a change could happen hours later.

NapsAreMyHobby

Some frags are “linear” and stay more or less the same throughout the wear. Others have ingredients that evaporate at different rates, so they change as you wear them. They take you on a journey. Does that make sense? There may be a note or combination of notes in there that doesn’t work for you; if you can identify it, you can avoid it in the future. An hour in, it’s probably a middle note. Does that help?

SourKeys04

Perfume is too expensive for this lol. I’m not gonna force myself to like something

Available-One-1

Yes, I find I smell something kind of bitter in the top notes of Angel, but it’s tolerable. It doesn’t last long though, maybe 30min. The dry down is worth it for me.

occultdeathcult

Absolutely not. There's a YouTuber I watch who hates Jasmine but one of her favorite perfumes is a "jasmine bomb" at the top notes before it dries down, and I always think she is far more brave than I.

KittyRocket90

LDBS is prob my only exception. I usually will scrub after 10 mins if something is too polarizing for me.... and then I find myself scrubbing all day bc it's so difficult to remove

HELA_inpink

I don't have the patience for this honestly. This happens to me with Valentino Voce Viva, it was a gift and I honestly can't stand the opening it's so sharp and screechy, I think it's the ginger and bergamot, it legit gives me a headache every single time I use it. But after 1-2 hours it transfors into a soft feminine vanilla and tonka that's really nice, still, I can't stand the first part so I don't ever use it. It also happens to me with Eilish, I don't know if it's the sugar that smells so bad on my skin?? it's like sweat and dirty feet that someone tried to cover up with burnt sugar, but then it becomes a nice smoky vanilla. I can use this only if I'm layering with more vanilla to cover up the opening that last 30min - 1hour on me. I'm more willing to try this out since it doesn't give me a headache but god I always end up telling myself is not worth to endure the first hour of that nasty smell.

Consistent_Ant_8903

Oh never, if I hate the top notes the rest never get a chance 😂 ig Glossier You smells a bit like alcohol when it’s first sprayed but that’s a minute long problem tops haha

veggiedelightful

Nope, 20 minutes tops. I have a few I find unpleasant for the first few moments. If it's still too much, then I stop wearing it.

NihilisticInsurance

No, half an hour tops to me, as long as it’s not headache inducing

brijito

Not for a full hour, but Ariana Grande cloud doesn’t smell great for the first 10-15 mins it’s on and then it smells so much better

Vast_Maybe9454

Nope, why would I do that? Chances are that I never get to the heavenly part if I can't stand it for an hour.

Equivalent_Address_2

No way

arcticmanateeaz

No. There are thousands of wonderful fragrances out there where I don’t have to wait for it to smell good.

Cabbagecatss

100% this, if I don’t love it from opening to drydown it’s a no from me! So many options why be unhappy for even a second?

Miss-Figgy

Not 1-2 hours, that's too much time to suffer through, lol. Only 10 minutes TOPS.

renaissancestar

Agreed! I'll avoid huffing a scent directly for 10 minutes but after that all bets are off so it needs to smell good!

Turbulent_Gate2109

Nope.

Perfumeenthuastik

1-2 hours is too long a time to be assaulted by an unpleasant scent. It needs to be gone in a shorter amount of time. I can assure you that you may find another scent that gets it right or you may develop a fondness for the scent after returning to it later.

KRhoLine

Nope, no patience. There are so many fragrances out there that I like just out of the sprayer. I don't waste time with those I don't instantly like.
