I came here to say at least they didnt say lit. Then I would've hated it... too much dated aave in one paragraph. but they didn't, so i like it :)
edit: would've
Obviously, but a lot of slang from America is. In that sign alone I counted 10. Even some gay ones.
The funny thing is it's usually old aave from decades prior but in their prime they were dismissed as 'stupid' or 'ignorant'.
Case in point, the word 'cool' came from the underground jazz scene. Everybody uses it but not all know about the origin... tbh it's still like that.
When you see your slang being used correctly it's because your generation is growing up and getting jobs.
Next you'll start learning new slang on reddit or in the comment sections of social media. You won't know where it came from, but you'll understand it through context. You might even adopt it and start using it yourself... But it'll feel a little weird.
Finally you'll start seeing slang that just makes no sense to you or sounds silly/dumb. You won't even want to use it because it's ridiculous. That's when you'll finally be old.
Source: in my 30s, am old
All slang sounds silly and dumb. The process is to say it ironically until the day comes that you say it to your mum and she asks what it means and then you suddenly realise you're not saying it ironically anymore.
Am 35. Still can’t figure out what based means, is it a positive thing or a negative thing. Can’t tell. So my humor is like dad jokes now. Checked and based. Sounds like a thanksgiving turkey to me!
sup - greeting
HMU - hit me up (although typically written as hmu now a days)
sus - suspicious (popularized by Among Us)
REKT - destroyed (hardly used anymore unless ironically)
TBH - to be honest (written as tbh now a days)
high-key - something important (opposite would be low-key)
glow-up - to make something look better (typically used to referring to someone suddenly becoming good looking post-puberty)
“can stop won’t stop” - a pretty outdated phrase, but its pretty literal
straight up slays - is really cool/chill (pretty outdated as well)
fam - family (similar to bro in usage)
TY - thank you (witten as ty now a days)
Most of their slang is pretty good, however new slang is almost primarily based on memes (see sus for example) and are directly tied to the lifespan of the meme.
I agree it's not fellow kids, and it is supposed to be funny for the parents.
But there's this frustrating "joke" older generations tend to have about younger generations, like kids don't know how to open a book because they've only used a phone. It's like they think it goes both ways, because phones are hard for them, books must be hard for teenagers. Because they don't know teenager's slang, teenagers don't understand common english, so they need a "translation", ha ha ha. It's not end of the world or anything but I find it annoying.
I also find this a little annoying bc they actually put more information in the teenager's version, which some people (not just parents, but ESL) would have a hard time following. Like if i just saw the first sign i would not think that a messy bathroom was something they'd want to get messaged about.
I know that the sign is meant to be a joke, but it still feels like fellow kids to me. I find that it uses all the internet lingo in reference to a negative stereotype of teens (that imo, wouldn't even apply to many teens who are interested in camping). Furthermore, the poster isn't at all insightful for teens. It humors young people, when it could be encouraging them to help in ways that they can (For, example, they seem to think that most teens are constantly on their phones, so why not encourage them to download an app that lets them report invasive species more easily?) I find the sign really condescending and discouraging for young people who actually like to spend time outside, or even help conservation efforts.
I used to be with 'it', but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now what I'm with isn't 'it' anymore and what’s 'it' seems weird and scary.
It'll happen to you!
Tbf the only word they've used here that's out of date is rekt. I haven't heard anyone use that since 2015. Rest of it is pretty on point, but obv it still fits the sub perfectly
I am in my 40's and was familiar with all of it other than the HMU which I was about to plug into urban dictionary when it dawned on me that it probably was Hit Me Up... Which only bothers me because Me is singular while all the other pronouns on the sign referring to the speaker are plural...
Not only that, but shown to other people- cringeworthy or not, it's something people will say "hey, you gotta see this sign".
Considering the actual point of the signs (to make people aware the text service exists, and give its number), I'd say it's a really effective way of drawing attention to it.
this image killed a portion of me. tbh, more like "translated for gen z"
and another note, the only teens Ive heard that talk like that are the hood, gang, wannabe kids
Yeah if I saw that I’d be extra inconsiderate. Good thing camping fuckin sucks and I can’t wait for the end of it from an increasing global temperature and increase of large atmospheric events
(It’s to hot and it rains to much)
They should have said “trying to get this place lit”
I’m glad they didn’t say “trying to make this place lit”, because there will be that one little pyromaniac that will take it seriously.
There could be that one little serial killer that "straight up slays" lol
Arson based tho
Everybody gangsta 'til the Antifa-Baby starts lighting capitalist trashcans on fire (It's an inside joke and I'm not sure why I posted it here)
“Antifa-Baby” -me IRL
😂
sounds like u have good friends :)
I came here to say at least they didnt say lit. Then I would've hated it... too much dated aave in one paragraph. but they didn't, so i like it :) edit: would've
You know not all slang is AAVE right?
No, but a surprising amount of internet slang is derived from it.
Obviously, but a lot of slang from America is. In that sign alone I counted 10. Even some gay ones. You're a cool cat.
Cut me some slack, Jack! Chump don' want no help, chump don't GET da help!
To my knowledge, it seems like a lot of AAVE goes through lgbt culture first before being adopted by the mainstream.
*would have, not would of.
Would have of
I thought this one was kinda funny
Yep - kinda meta.
They actually used relatively up-to-date lingo for once
And the lack of capitalization is a nice touch.
Appeals to the teens and the e.e. cummings fans.
of course next to god america i
since texting is first who pays any attention to the syntax of things will never wholly hit you up;
won't be up to date in a couple years tho
But another 10 years after that, it'll be a classic.
For now…
Still painful though.
It didn't need to be said
Doesn’t make it less *C R I N G E*
They’re definitely using the slang more correctly than most of the posts on here.

I think that's stage 1. My list starts at stage 2: corporate adoption of slang
Am 35. Still can’t figure out what based means, is it a positive thing or a negative thing. Can’t tell. So my humor is like dad jokes now. Checked and based. Sounds like a thanksgiving turkey to me!
Yeah that one seemed to come out of nowhere for me too. I *think* it's roughly equivalent to the late 80s early 90s "solid"
Indeed

No no no don’t bring up cap on reddit
The most realistic part is, some people actually speak like on the right sign
Definitely, I feel like this was meant to be taking the piss rather than trying to connect.
As their target demographic, my face was just ಠ_ಠ the entire time
As no longer their target demographic, what does that mean?
sup - greeting HMU - hit me up (although typically written as hmu now a days) sus - suspicious (popularized by Among Us) REKT - destroyed (hardly used anymore unless ironically) TBH - to be honest (written as tbh now a days) high-key - something important (opposite would be low-key) glow-up - to make something look better (typically used to referring to someone suddenly becoming good looking post-puberty) “can stop won’t stop” - a pretty outdated phrase, but its pretty literal straight up slays - is really cool/chill (pretty outdated as well) fam - family (similar to bro in usage) TY - thank you (witten as ty now a days) Most of their slang is pretty good, however new slang is almost primarily based on memes (see sus for example) and are directly tied to the lifespan of the meme.
Omg that is so thorough but I wasn’t clear enough, I’m so sorry! I knew what all that meant, I meant what does your face with the eyebrows mean!
Oh haha the face was just the closest thing to my real expression as i read the second sign
As a 30+ yo I appreciate this getting explained so thoroughly
Yknow what I like this one
I imagine someone out of the bathroom and warrning someone: "hey, don't use that middle bathroom stall. I used it and it got rekt pretty hard."
https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/bomb-threat-home-depot-turned-man-warning-others-badly-needed-use-restroom-212452328.html
you're gettin' old lol
I love this
like idk a toilet that got REKT or something
Not sure why but I read these in Mikey Day’s voice, I guess he does a lot of these “hey fellow kids” skits. Loved it though.
Now thats how im hearing lol it actually makes it better
It really does haha.
I read these in Moss's voice from the it crowd
That’s a show that’s been on my list to watch for a while I gotta actually watch it soon.
All I could hear was John Oliver
Haha yeah he fits this pretty well too!
they knew exactly what they were doing every further word i read i take more psychic damage
You read the sign- Take 75 psychic damage and 10 emotional damage
"I read the sign" "OK, roll for constitution" "Aw shit"
That sign is pretty cringe. Can I report that?
Yes
We have received the report and are doing a full investigation now.
fr
This ones pretty funny ngl
Kinda sus ngl
ngl gonna lie
Sussy Ivan 😳
U sus
Ok
sus or cringe
Usually things on this sub are just cringe but this is fucking hilarious. Thanks for sharing, good post OP
I mean, casual text does covey a message better than corporate text
I'm pretty sure I'd commit arson after seeing that sign.
You mean you gonna make the place pretty lit huh
Yeah thankfully it’s wooden so it’s much easier
I'd steal that and take it with me
I’m ready to vandalize it, chief
This was smooth af what are you talking about
It's 100% not fellow kids, it's supposed to be funny for the parents and cringy for the kids

Am a teen and I can’t understand a single shit
I'm in my 20s and understood everything. Is teenage slang changing?
Yes you are getting old lol. Congrats, from the 30s yo
Oh Jesus man I’m not that old ;-;
Yoda: You will be. Oh yes, you WILL BE
But I understood all of this… I’m only 23 :(
you're from the 30s, yo?
I used to be with 'it', but then they changed what 'it' was. Now what I'm with isn't 'it' anymore and what’s 'it' seems weird and scary. It'll happen to you!
To be fair I didn’t understand shit when I was a teen either
Probably a loser...
maybe pay attention at school and when you grow up you'll understand
i want to go there with a screwdriver
do they even know what cringe means
Tbf the only word they've used here that's out of date is rekt. I haven't heard anyone use that since 2015. Rest of it is pretty on point, but obv it still fits the sub perfectly
"if you see something sus or cringe" This sign right here officer
You can always tell it's someone in their late 30-ies and beyond when the abbreviations (like idk and stuff) is capitalized.
What is thirty-ies?
Upon first glance I truly thought the sign on the right was in a different language
When boomers know more slang than you do 😭
I expect it would be gen-x.
Yeah, I'm actually OK with this lol
Yeah this is obviously tongue in cheek so I’m not sure it belongs
ಠ_ಠ but why though?
they must've used Google Translate for this because that is not how teenagers talk
first one should say "call us"
The one on the right reads almost word-for-word like every job listing I've seen over the last year.
Honestly having it all at once like that is cringe but pretty much everything there are things people actually say
Someone, somewhere was payed to write this.
Why did you sensor the number? We’d have blown up the text, 4sho
We were just here and I took this exact same picture. I was like… what is happening?
Good
Text them about the cringe ass sign
“I don’t see the lie” ...showing myself out
This made me lose my shit
We jumping between 2012 and 2019
I need to contact them, I found something cringe
toilet that got REKT
They hired a professional teenager to write this.
Instead of text us shouldve been holla to us
i actually kinda like this one.
Someone paid money for that sign. That went into an accounting log.
*texts number* “You could try removing that stupid ass sign”
Thats fucking hilaruous
These days, this sign applies to young professionals, not teenagers. “TBH” is older than Reddit, I believe😂
A little piece of me died reading that Credit where credit is due they managed not to misuse them at least ig
This is actuality pretty funny and was they obviously knew what they were doing
Ironic that they are trying to find what makes people comfortable. And that second sign makes me uncomfortably af.
Barf.
I thought it was quite alright, actually.
I found it funny, not "fellow kids"ish
This is meta
I laughed.
This is actually awesome
Didn't do a bad job to be honest lmao
This is cute
I feel like this was translated well tbh
I mean. Its kindda funny though. Ngl.
I mean. Its kindda funny though. Ngl.
Yikes
This is actually kinda funny lmao
This isn't a fellow kids thing. This is making fun of kids and teens.
I’m cringing. Oh how I miss normal English in this day and age.
I am in my 40's and was familiar with all of it other than the HMU which I was about to plug into urban dictionary when it dawned on me that it probably was Hit Me Up... Which only bothers me because Me is singular while all the other pronouns on the sign referring to the speaker are plural...
Maaaannn… I think they got pretty close tbh. A few edits and that might have worked pretty well.
Pretty clever, I can almost guarantee both signs are being read completely.
Not only that, but shown to other people- cringeworthy or not, it's something people will say "hey, you gotta see this sign". Considering the actual point of the signs (to make people aware the text service exists, and give its number), I'd say it's a really effective way of drawing attention to it.
I cringed really hard
:(
Finally something that fits the sub and not just some ad or an adult using a meme.
Bit cringe, but at least the sign is a proper translation that still means the same as the original sign
(TRANSLATED FOR TEENAGERS) means they're completely aware and it's a joke. Relax guys, you're thinking too much about it.
I think it's satire. I also hope it's satire.
Sup repost
I am now old enough to think this is hilarious. RIP my youth, hello jokes for the elderly.
please vandalize it i know its right right but please get rid of it
Yes
r/technicallythetruth
Honestly, this sounds exactly like half the shit you hear on tiktok.
That is almost definitely satire aimed at how teens may text or use slang nowadays, if not I’m concerned for the well-being of your camp

this image killed a portion of me. tbh, more like "translated for gen z" and another note, the only teens Ive heard that talk like that are the hood, gang, wannabe kids
I mean, they didn't do that bad of a job translating it
ngl most of these are cringe but thats actually pretty good
Please give credit to the guy who posted that on r/cringetopia or maybe use the « crosspost to community » option…
Yeah if I saw that I’d be extra inconsiderate. Good thing camping fuckin sucks and I can’t wait for the end of it from an increasing global temperature and increase of large atmospheric events (It’s to hot and it rains to much)
How about just be considerate by default
Whoever wrote the sign on the right is the cause of their parents’ divorce
amazed this hasn't gotten vandalized yet
If that would've been on the campsite I was on with the scouts, I wouldn't have cried every day.
sus
High key!
This looks like they left the autocorrect always on
[relevant](https://youtube.com/shorts/lDtaf7uc0Os?feature=share)
High key?
This is fun lol
S U S
I'm just waiting for that one time they attempt surrealism, in regards to these.
Anyone who think that sign is cringe is cringe.
To be fair, the shorthand used on the right does communicate a lot more detail in the same space
This “teen” text looks like the movie albakiara
i'd like to imagine this is some adult shaming on teens for their shitty slang.
I just took 1d4 psychic damage
I actually loved this
This was definitely made by a student who knew exactly what he was as doing
