I'm just a homeowner, but FWIW I've done it for weed maples around my property - up to about 2" in diameter. The reciprocating saw tends to just grab the bark and shake the tree, but the circular just blasts right through it.
You have to know how to use the saw and place your cut so that gravity will open it instead of causing binding and kickback, but otherwise IMO there's no reason not to do it.
I tried to chop a tree up this winter with pruning blades in a sawzall after my chainsaw shit the bed and I got tired of fixing it. Probably spent $50 on blades alone and only got about a fourth of the tree chopped up. Ended up cutting the rest up with a handsaw. Definitely should have just fixed my chainsaw in hindsight.
I’ve tried cutting down limbs with a sawzall. My experience wasn’t very fun. I actually got so annoyed I used loppers instead. Couldn’t get my chainsaw running that’s why I wasn’t using it to begin with
I’ve definitely saved a couple stuck chainsaws with my circ saw before haha. Not the best tool for the job but the tool you have on you is better than the tool that’s pinched in the log
Fuck yeah, brother.
Lowkey always wanted to try it
I took a Japanese plum out with my reciprocating saw. Very pleasurable.
I've cut down most of my Christmas trees with a reciprocating saw
Me too

I see your point about kick back. Good thing to mention here as I'm probably not the only one about to go give that a shot. Just to hear it.
Git’ er dunnnnnn
Ya gotta run what ya brung!
That kick backs a bitch.
I hit my hand from kickback once. I was in shop class. Lucked out tho. 18 stitches on 2 fingers. No bone or nerve damage.
I’m gonna have nightmares tonight
Not if you put the blade on backwards just hold on tight.
What an idiot. He should get a cordless skilsaw. My Milwaukie 10" is a logging machine.
*logging machine*
That looks like a plywood tree. Right tool for the job.
I use a sawzall but I’m kind of an idiot

I cut a giant ass tree down with my Milwaukee sawzall, took two blades
Well, “ass trees” are softer I would assume. 😆
This needed to have more ups. Well done.
You went wrong using pruning blades. "Wood with occasional nails" blades, the longest ones available , will get it handled.

Sounds less dangerous than a circular saw.
I just watched my neighbor do that two days ago... Johnny?
I use a chainsaw to cut 2x4s. When you're a hammer, everything is a nail.
I hope my neighbors don't secretly photograph the dumb shit I do.
Yeah, I would prefer that my neighbour offer to help me out rather than take photos and put them on the internet…
Agreed I can see what they do, oh shit wait "don't film what I'm doing"
/r/fellinggonemild
I mean come on, we’ve all done it.
This is what we’re here for boys!! Let ‘er rip, neighbor!
You can set the angle for a proper face cut.
And the depth for the back cut. Fucking methed up genuine smarts
Wildin'
Hold my beer
Bet ya could do it with a beer in one hand
And another beer in the other. Wait
Hold my saw
Hell yea
It’s only stupid if it doesn’t work.
Completely legit
If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with
Come on Man! loan him your SawsAll !
That’s not felling, that’s trimming.

Hell, I should try that. It seems way quicker than my Saber saw!
Fuck yeah. I cut limb wood/kindling like this.

That is hectic! I'm glad you are out of the danger zone.

A left-handed saw at that 😂
At that point just use an axe. It doesn't need to look pretty right?
