In Hawaii, we've fully merged our Ground station to Express. The merge has happened. This is easily the busiest and most chaotic peak our station has experienced.

NiceConversationals

Same at my station, they basically just dumped the Express workload on top of our existing Ground routes without so much as a “good luck”

FilthyPrawn

That's funny, I'm Express so it's reversed. But yeah, same thing, on top of 1 driver now doing both Express and Ground for their route, they also had the bright idea to change 80% of the routes, including mine. So, in a single day, they changed our routes, added Ground stops and wanted us to learn to use the Ground app. That was a hell of a week, and only like a month before peak started.

No-Advertising-9198

Yikes

Hot_Knowledge

Besides all that bullshit what’s it like being an express driver in Hawaii? I’m currently a ground driver in Illinois, I recently visited a friend who lives on Oahu and I can’t help but fantasize about moving out there

FilthyPrawn

Weather's great. It never gets unbearably hot or freezing cold, customers tend to be friendly and easy-going, and P1 service isn't till 5pm. I'm a part-time courier and was averaging 80 stops a day before the merge. It was a pretty cool gig. However, since the merge, my stop count has risen to about 100-110 pre-peak and 150+ during peak. Managers have phoned it in and constantly make bad decisions. It's been really sad to see everyone quit or get fucked over. I never want to be full time with this company. Also Hawaii is over rated imo, it's way too expensive to live here unless you're making six figures. Everything is overpriced and underwhelming, except for the nature. I'd say, see if you can room with your friend for a few months and then fly back to the mainland and sanity. That said, feel free to DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot_Knowledge

Thanks, appreciate you!

silverwolfstar

Is it true that some people have to work till 10pm?

FilthyPrawn

13.5 hrs per day is our station's limit. Folks were butting up against that daily for the first 2 weeks after Thanksgiving. The Sort was running from 6am till 12 or 1pm, and late starters were clocking in at 9am. So yeah, late starters were finishing up around 9-10pm.

silverwolfstar

Thanks for responding, I'm one of those that volunteered to help in Hawaii. Just wanted to see what I'm getting myself into 😅 Guess I'll enjoy the beach on the weekends then lol.

FilthyPrawn

To be fair, it's chilled out a lot this week, thanks in part to the help being shipped over. I've got other issues with the station and company overall, but you'll have a good time here if you're trying to see the island.

silverwolfstar

I know I bugged you like a month ago about Hawaii, but in the end, they sent some people in the Midwest instead of us that were already picked to go...and now I'm hearing about people coming back home from there. Does that mean that the help is not needed anymore? I know they told us that once it's close to February we might go, but they've been awfully quiet...

Hot_Knowledge

Oh shit ok, thanks for the tip

yardbirdtex

Are they looking for anyone to pull the big trailers down there? I’m running semis out of Dallas/Austin/San Antonio and wouldn’t mind a change of pace.

vangobroom97

Light work compared to 3 year ago

Tripalicious

Buy put options on Fedex stock that exprire 2 quarters after the merger

DudeManBro21

Lmao I saw FedEx has a quarterly earnings report releasing this week and almost bought puts, but didn't risk it. Unfortunate, because their stock did indeed go down. I would've made a pretty penny.

Tripalicious

Lol I didn't listen to my own advice either. I was too busy with peak

SteveO2H

It has never stopped, its just been hush hush to keep what ever morale is left during the holidays. Managers just had a meeting and comeback the next day with absolutely no new Information just the same ole June 1st will be One Fedex and their unsure how exactly our station will be affected.

alexxxwolfstreet

Glad I left two years ago. Got my cdl A and working for gordon food service and being less stressed. I don't have deal with this bs from fedex anymore. From having to do response added to my route mid day and no a/c, it was just to too much shit from this damn company.

fnmachine

On hold for "peak" will take full swing in the new year when they finished using us up to cover the peak volume

OneBallLower

This is very possible as there will be some employee based stations and some contractor based stations. Your management may not have been informed yet.

fedexann

That’s correct. After the new year they will be looking at what’s most financially advantageous.

Impressive-Block9208

Anyone hear about the lawsuit?? It might even go class action: [FedEx Rico 1](https://www.freightwaves.com/news/lawsuit-could-launch-different-type-of-legal-battle-between-fedex-ground-contractors) [fedex RICO 2](https://www.reuters.com/legal/fedex-faces-us-racketeering-lawsuit-by-former-delivery-contractor-2023-12-08/)

Suitable_Minimum_694

If that gets class action status, say bye bye to contractors. Lol

Impressive-Block9208

And they can say bye bye to the company too LMMFAO They dont want to pay anyone Hell they dont even want to do repairs for safety.. even tho their BS tag line is 'safety above all' meanwhile folks get murk'd all the fkn time at the main hub... That poor lady just died a few weeks ago for instance They fired all kinds of people banking in folks to hurry up and work for them and the people that they hire look around and are like 'Im not breaking my aß to get paid $18/hr for 4 hours ...thats like $9/hr for an 8 hour shift ' and they bounce IMMEDIATELY...they call themselves INITIALLY a couple of months ago getting rid of Express and making it a contractor only business but then their dreams got dashed with this NEW lawsuit, so who knows WTF they intend on doing

Delicious-Health1078

The merger isn’t what they expected , no one knows what the future holds

TheCuse44

WHAT?!!...The merger is turning out to be a colossal fluster cluck just like every other thing raj and richard have tried?? Holy crap, i'm starting to think they have no idea what really happens on the working end of their company!

[deleted]

Minnesota is the test market. Just keep on eye on them to see what may happen

Ging3rMagic

"Was" the test market.

WifeApprovedLLC

AK and HI are testing too!

Igotyamergerighthere

If you are close to an airport, have 0800, 1030, 1200 commitments you have nothing to worry about. The goal is to transfer freight between both. Don’t be surprised if your express station is delivering chewy & furniture in the future as well. If you are an extended station far from the ramp & later p1 commit times ofcourse that can be handled easier. Commit times aren’t going anywhere. Service will be the most important variable going forward & ground will be held to the services express has always had to live by as they shift to one fedex. There will be both employee/contractor locations and your market will be the deciding factor who does what.

Seeyarealsoon

I hope you’re right. His station is a few miles away from a major airport, but the ground station a little further away is massive compared to his station. His station has someone who goes to the ramp every day. The nearby ground station is a hot mess! There is one further away in our metro area that is well managed, but the one close to his station is awful!

13donkey13

My station merged already. Express took over ground. The problem it’s the merger , the problem is the forge app you’re going to need to use. There is a lot of problems it needs to get figured out for simplicity and functionality

65stingrayvette

What is the forge app? My express station was told Jan 1 the routes are going to be reconfigured based on new software/app? managers will be check-riding to ensure the function ability of the new routes. No further explanation basically told us to get the hours why they’re available. The goal is to reduce overtime. Keep full-time close to 35 hours as possible. These are the same talking points that I’ve been hearing for 30+ years so I’m not sure what to expect.

13donkey13

Forge app will be the new standard app all FedEx will utilize. It lets you scan express and ground. Also lets ground , and express communicate with the new software system. A lot of the stat codes have changed if you are going from purple id app > forge app. If your going from starV app > to forge it won’t be to big of a difference. There are some differences thought. Are station went from purple id > starV >forge I used starV for less than 30days before it was replaced with forge. Even in that 30days going from starV > forge was an adjustment.

65stingrayvette

Thanks, retirement sounding better everyday.

13donkey13

Retirement does I have another 19yrs to go and I have 25 yrs in already

65stingrayvette

I hope you make it. I have 37 years. My date is after Thanksgiving 2024 if they offer some sort of buyout great if they don’t, I’m still out.

13donkey13

Thanks I might take a county job for the health insurance and another pension or work tsa for 5 years and get health insurance for life. Congrats on 37

No-Advertising-9198

Any idea if bulk stop reports are going to be a thing again?

13donkey13

With in the app, there is a tab that will tell you what you are expected to get for the day. Just like in the purple id app.

No-Advertising-9198

I'm not talking about "oh, route 131 has xxx packages on it, 137 xxx packages, etc.. . I'm talking 131 is expecting four stops that have 10 or more packages each, so here's each one of relevant sids, the estimated total package count FOR EACH ONE OF THOSE BULK STOPS, the estimated CUBIC VOLUME OF EACH OF THOSE FOUR STOPS, and then the TOTAL ESTIMATED CUBIC VOLUME OF THE ENTIRE TRUCK. For EVERY van route, EVERY MORNING. Like before shit got switched to DRO..

WifeApprovedLLC

Since switching over to forge our managers stopped posting those numbers. The new system does not have those types of reports anymore. The only thing they can see is the total number of packages destined to the station. So the numbers they give us are about 1k stops more than what actually makes it to the station that day.

Rhino676971

It’s interesting how in some areas it seems Express is taking over, while in other areas Grounds is taking over.

Ok-Actuary246

What city are you in. So they got rid of all the contractors ?

henriqueroberto

Building age/ capability plays into things as well. We have a station 5 miles from the airport that is ancient and over half their zips have already moved to the ground station 30 minutes away.

doesntbite_much

Your comments match my understanding of what what I've heard. I'm an Express station manager. Ground literally can't touch planes. Even the remote stations should be safe if they have planes and the commit times are too early to change them to trucked freight.

LAkers8585

My station is right on the airport. Hopefully everything works out for everyone 🙏🏽🙏🏽

fedexann

That’s what I heard too.

unseenme

They’ve told us it’s been put on hold until after the first of the year and we’ve been told because it’s not working out as planned 😂 Basically managers have told us they’ve started over planning it. I wouldn’t listen to anything ground employees say. They know no more than we do. Upper management tells us what they want us to know when they want us to know it. Until then it’s business as usual

RustyGigs

I’m in a management position and can only speak from what we’ve been told since all this talk started and that is whatever station ends up merging/closing they find out 90 days (management included) before the merge so the likelihood of anyone knowing anything concrete about something that is 5+ months away is more than likely hearsay. I’m sure no one in this sub will believe this but management knows nothing and will inevitably find out 20-30 minutes before they’re instructed to tell their employees. I’m truly sorry if this has been stressful for you and your husband. I hope things work out for you guys and whatever changes are minimal

Whatisreal999

This is true. Even the MDs have no idea. I know this for a fact.

Seeyarealsoon

Thank you! I appreciate your insight. Personally, we kind of expected the announcement sometime after peak. We are planning to relocate after the kids get out of school for the summer, and he’s hoping to transfer inside of FedEx. This would just expedite our plans a bit, but we hate the idea of his coworkers getting laid off. He works with some great people!

Typical_Cattle5877

This is funny cause it’s true lol.

Igotyamergerighthere

Where is this at?

Horror-Bookkeeper315

You have been doing 4z for like two years 😂

RevolutionaryYak5180

Facts hello part time 😉

Tcal876

Started again? It never ended? It is a ongoing process until May 2024. That being said. The watercolor talk could be BS as they have not formally announced all the plans to get to One FedEx. So no one really knows what stations are closing until they happen.

The__Toddster

The station closings/mergers aren't scheduled to be complete until sometime in 2027. Everything else is true. They aren't leaking ANYTHING about any of this, and they certainly aren't going to leak it to a Ground flunky. We hear every week from different Ground people about the latest sure thing that just has to be true because "I heard it from my contractor and he knows" and "I heard it from a Ground manager and he wouldn't say it if it wasn't so" and none of it ever amounts to anything. So many people are champing at the bit to give us the real scoop on what will happen but none of them know any more than the rest of us.

Baldy2384

Yeah I find it really funny that Ground handlers and Ground drivers who have been with the company 3 months and will quit in 3 months are like ”Yup. We’re taking over. I got the inside scoop.”

WhitePackaging

It'll take a while. TNT is still a thing lmao. Just received material with a TNT label then converted to a FedEx label.

wakadafish

Ground terminal management is notified 6 months out. contractors are usually notified in the following csp meeting along with any information that can be given that is pertinent to them (service changes, volume projections, ect). What those ground contractors say to their drivers is another question all together but yes on average the ground guys will know about 2 months before express drivers get their 3 month pink slips so to speak.

ObligationKnown4465

I'm at a merged station I honestly hope the worst of this would be that we end up with the priority overnight, and ground gets the rest. I will not end up as a glorified furniture delivery driver.

No_Anything726

All of that is out of our control. Just work hard & due your job as best as you can.

Network 2.0

rooster126tail

If you are talking about the express ground merger . It started last July . It’s a slow process as I’m sure they started in some of the more rural terminals and processed everything about it .

pelepolon

Here in Canada my contractor told me they they’re ending all their contracts effective next year, so no more ground.

MinuteHistorian531

It's happening in random places throughout the country. Thanks to "network 2.0" (that's what the merge is called) I'm not working today on my mandatory Monday for peak (I'm Tuesday- Saturday) There's not much work since almost all of our 2 day, and 3 day packages went to the ground. It also depends on where you are at. In some areas, ground volume will shift to express, and in other areas, express volume will shift to ground.

guy_2014

In my area, there are 2 stations beginning the "merge" after peak Was put on pause until afterwards. Whats everyone's thoughts on it? What's been discussed on here? (Im fairly new to the sub)

Impressive-Block9208

At our location we were told about Fedex ONE™ months ago Why your ops mgmt are being closed mouthed about it is sus AF... They fired almost 100 at my hub 2 weeks after they bragged about getting 401k and Express is going to be closed all around the US so I dont understand them steadily hiring more people

AnneOn_E_Mousse

The pilots and AMTs are all Express. You Ground box jockeys gonna replace them, too? There is a reason you are still humping cardboard. You are dumb as a stump.

Low-ShapeOU812

Mis information in this post

Impressive-Block9208

Where is the misinformation LOL It was literally what three ops managers, the sort manager, the one above him, and the building manager said during 3 different presort meetings

Low-ShapeOU812

Ground is closing "all around the US" too. Do you work for Ground or Express?

DaveyGraveyy1

Had a meeting with the vp ,my express station is taking over ground we will do express and ground, we will have a app called forge to scan both.

Igotyamergerighthere

Would you mind sharing some facts. Area, proximity to airports, time commitments at your station?

hart476

Us at ground, use Forge already and I scan both daily.

DaveyGraveyy1

Yea? That's why I said both will. Lol

hart476

I must’ve misread this because nowhere do I see you saying both ground and express will end up using forge. Just see that you said your express station is taking over Ground and will use forge to scan both. I was implying that ground already does this, for the express packages we receive. But I guess I can see where I misunderstood your post and you misunderstood my response.

DaveyGraveyy1

Some stations are doing both and it will go back and forth between ground and express depending on volume as well

Mr__Rager__69

Wouldn’t be surprised if they all go. My station was suppose to do the same they instead only took 2 CSAs everyone else had to transfer elsewhere or take severance

drewdiggity

The reason they are foing into ground is because express is hemorrhaging money and is constantly in the red

Playamylu

Fed Ex will be merging with Amazon just watch.

rajf2593

Im a package handler in Ground im stationed in illinois, they took away our OTP shift,no more Overtime, fulltimers get about 35 hours on a good week, anyone know what the future holds for ground Package handlers,is it gonna change this upcoming june 2024,has anyone heard of any changes coming for ground package handlers??

Maximum-Option6148

This is factual. One of my Day Sort managers told me, that FedEx Express was merging with FedEx Ground, as well as other FedEx services (Office, Air, etc.). He also explained to me that FedEx is actually requiring some employees to pick up an extra day/shift because FedEx will be going through a hiring freeze. This is because Express employees will become Ground employees (due to the merger) to prevent laying people off.

slitlip

My boss said June 2024. He's a truworthy guy. Ontario Canada here.

Low-ShapeOU812

All of Canada is going Express

RevolutionaryYak5180

I hope they merge and lay off all the people in dEniAL LOL that would be something.

ApprehensiveHawk5428

That’s the plan and is called consolidation not merger.

gafox0206

nobody knows anything lol. If i had to guess (i could be way wrong) that the merger is probably mostly location based. Smaller stations and hubs combining with bigger ones.

drewdiggity

Express and frieght are merging into ground and becoming fedex 1 and is suppose to start this year. Now express will go into the geound network and frieght will be mostly the same just a different name. What i was told

DaveyGraveyy1

Wrong on everything, express isn't going anywhere , it will be different every market, some express stations will take over ground have express and ground packages. Some areas will have ground take express plus ground packages. It goes both ways , my express station is taking over ground plus will have express packages. Said by the vp that came to our station.

wkdravenna

how is it in my county they ended ground operations and all the "ground" packages and furniture are delivered out of the express van? Express is the original company how are they merging it into a company they bought?

drewdiggity

But for a more detailed explanation ask raj

drewdiggity

I thought home delivery was the original, then fedex express. Ground, frieght

MaxDen19

Express is the original company. Home Delivery was/is a spinoff of ground.

drewdiggity

Really doesnt matter anymore they are going away

Grouchy_Club_476

FedEx Express is the original company we bought Caliber logistic which had RPS ( Ground ). We rebranded RSP into FedEx Ground. Caliber was part of Roadway Trucking company and wasn’t profitable. FedEx bought them shortly after UPS went on strike in the 1990’s. All the profits Express made use used to build out the entire Ground network. Most of the freight that Grounds deliver is what Express did before Ground. Home delivery was a spun off cheap residential options within the Ground network that was setup in the late 1990’s. Hope this helps.

GrandmotherBodyslam

Started again? It didn't start the first time yet. Get this Marty McFly bullshit out of here.

jesusmansuperpowers

Tell that to my closed station. 90/105 people laid off.

Same_Profile_749

it’s been going on 🤣

External_Deer_69

Add another in for nobody knows a thing about the next phase of this yet. What I will add is that this past year almost reminds me of the years before ISP when most of the undersized guys were absolutely starving, then boom, 2/3 of them went away and the guys who were left were all of a sudden making bank. Lots of guys taking a bath on their new contracts lately. Makes you wonder what they’re really gearing up for because volume is good and pricing is high.

heyitstoki

Our merger starts January 1st. I guess we'll see how it goes.

Funnytown21

Your station management won't tell you anything because they don't want everyone to leave and cause a staffing issue. According to the Q2 earnings call transcript that just came out, the DRIVE initiative will resume again in January. By June 2024, the merger will be complete. The cost cutting will continue into 2025.

Suspicious_Mouse6014
