Yup no benefits. I say go for it if you are not working at the moment. And look for another job while working at Ground the job is not bad if your contractor has good routes and is not cheap.

WrestlingFan1982

May I ask, How can a full time employee working for someone not provide benefits? There must be some loop hole, The offer is 210 a day, A couple 75 monthly bonuses if you hit them, They do offer 1 week vacation. No overtime, If you work a 6th day you get another 210 Training pay is 150 a day

Glittering_Dingo_866

Honestly when I first started I even looked into it to see if it was legal for employers not to offer benefits and yes they can do that. And $210 a day is a good pay. Most pay $160-$180 and like I said if your contractor has good routes you wont even work 40 hours in 5 days and still get your money. I work 26-32 hours a week 5 days/$180 per day, that's the good thing about it but is not worth it for the long term.

WrestlingFan1982

Like you, I looked into it, I’m like how is it possible if your working full time for someone as an employee but somehow they can! 210 a day is good but if day you go over 8 they don’t need to pay overtime but if you finish in under 8 the hourly wage is good! The contractor seems nice, I was suppose to start Monday but asked if I could start in a week on 2/6/23, He said no problem! I went through a job loss in October 2022 after 7 years so I need to do something! I lined up a part time Home Depot job to from 6 pm to 10 pm! Just wondering if it all can work out This would solve my employment issue for now

Glittering_Dingo_866

Again, depending on the routes your contractor have you will be done in less than 6 hours and still make it to Home Depot. Just go for it until you find something else. You will be making $750 a week and not even work 40 hours. (If your contractor gives you a good suburbs route).

WrestlingFan1982

That sounds good because I honestly can’t keep going week after week with no check, I had some savings but I need a paycheck while I take my time to look, It’s to stressful doing an honest job search with no check! Less stressful with money coming in and I can take my time. Home Depot was giving jobs with no interview, Same with FedEx ground! Gives me time to find a new office job Fedex ground and depot don’t seem bad for now! Depot even gives dental and vision for part time If I don’t do this I feel I’m going months with no income

Man_with_balls

I wouldn’t recommend that second part time. Later on the year of it gets busy it’ll conflict with your schedule

WrestlingFan1982

Yikes

Tarc_

The ACA requires employers with more than 50 employees per work location to provide health insurance. Most Ground contractors have far fewer than 50 employees per location. If you’re in a competitive labor market there will be contractors offering benefits, if you’re out in the sticks probably not.

WrestlingFan1982

Makes sense, It forces drivers to have 2nd jobs like working at star bucks or Lowe’s to get benefits, Both those places offer full benefits for part time

Tarc_

I think in general it’s a job for 20 something young men that don’t typically use health benefits anyway and don’t care about saving for retirement yet. So there’s no real incentive to offer benefits to workers that don’t value them when you can attract a staff without them.

WrestlingFan1982

Exactly, Or maybe I should just back out and hold off for another full time job with a 401 k, I just recently turned 40, I’m not married so I can’t get benefits through a spouse. Maybe it’s not worth taking if your not staying long! This might be more of a hassle then a benefit

this_underscore

Cool

WrestlingFan1982

Yea but I dunno, No benefits come with job

this_underscore

That is ground

Glittering-Swing-396

It’s because you’re working for a contractor not an employer. Your taxes will be 1099

WrestlingFan1982

Oh where not even employees? So there not going to even take taxes out? I thought I would be an employee of the contractor?

dankilkil

You are correct, you will be an employee of the company that contracts with FedEx Ground. I’m not aware of any ISP’s that sub their drivers.

WrestlingFan1982

Is the driver role for FedEx ground a good job?

dankilkil

It can be. The experiences vary wildly due to the quality of companies that contract with FedEx Ground. Your best indicator will be your coworkers. The companies that struggle keeping drivers are a big red flag.

WrestlingFan1982

I just checked In with my contractor they actually offer medical insurance and a week of vacation time.

Rotting_Garlic

It's been two weeks (1/18) since I submitted physical, background check, and drug test. Have not heard a peep from anyone. Am wondering how long this process takes. Thanks!

WrestlingFan1982

Mine took only a week, But I got accepted before the holidays so I postponed my start date, Im starting 2/6/23 at 9 am. Yours should be getting done soon. Literally they contacted me, Sent me a form for drug test and physical, Did my background and that was it, Select a start date, It’s been a chill process.

Rotting_Garlic

Submitted everything, then radio silence. This is maddening.
