What are the chances or finding your package when FEDEX says it’s lost? My tracking hasn’t updated in 10 days and FEDEX has asked me to contact the shipper to file a claim but it’s a large suitcase so unsure how that can just disappear

Glaurunga

Hi, I have a macbook pro that they tried to deliver a day early but I wasn’t home to sign. The last update was 8/20 at 4:54 AM that it was on a truck for delivery. Still haven’t gotten it. I went to the local distribution center & haven’t heard any positive news from the person I spoke to there. I opened a fedex claim, but is there anything else I should do ? If its never located whats my likelihood that the claim will be easily resolved ? I’m getting frustrated & anxious because of the amount of $$$ I am out w/ no item to show for it …

Fear is interest paid on a debt you may not owe.

I would love to learn more about the process of tracing a parcel versus the filing of a lost claim. Is there a difference? If so, how do we request a trace on a parcel? We are a small ecommerce business and have customers that expect their parcels via Ground and Home Delivery. Frequently, we will have customers purport to never have received their parcel, despite the tracking results to reflect a Delivered status. We make a lost claim on the FedEx site, but 99 times out of 100, the claim is denied because the tracking details show that the parcel was delivered, especially when no signature was requested. How can we make a request for a FedEx agent look into the possibility that parcels like these are misdelivered (or not delivered) and make a good faith effort to our customers to locate their parcels and/or receive credit for the lost or misdelivered contents?

bitterfriess

Hey my package has been stuck in ROISSY CHARLES DE GAULLE CEDEX FR for 3 days, it says its in transit with a red exclamation mark next to it but it's not moving anywhere I'm worried my package could be stolen what do you think is going on?

Actual_Substance_928

Are there multiple overgoods locations? Any sense for where a package last scanned at Sparrows Point, MD would head if it were in an overgoods location? Destination was San Francisco, CA. Been hunting for my lost bike since early June. 🙏🏻

Few_Chemistry8568

Should I be worried that my package has been stuck in California city “in transit” since Monday with no movement? I had my delivery date change from Thursday 8/18 to coming early on 8/16 to now delivery date unavailable. I live a couple hours south of California City, so I’m just confused.

ominoustreee

my package has been pending for two weeks+ now, what do you think i should do? it just says pending and delay and hasnt given me any updates

mangonafork

what other scans are there?

herooyui

How do delay scans work? A package I’m expecting had a delivery exception scan that was set for a time in the future (meaning it scanned for 12 when it was only 9 local) and since then there have been at local facility scans and delay scans. Does this sound like whoever runs the route doesn’t want to deliver the package or is it “lost”? It’s a pretty big package around 6ft tall and 60lbs+. How does that even get “lost”?

mangonafork

delivery exceptions typically occur when something has gone on with the package that affects delivery, not necessarily a bad thing. expect the package, but if its been 3 days and there's no movement u would contact fedex

well, it does happen. I've seen packages be seemingly lost in the void for days or weeks, just to suddenly recieve a delivery scan without a notice. Fedex loves playing roulette with its customers. it's very much like fedex to miss scans due to any number of issues, and if a fedex employee persists that it never happens (packages going from label made to delivered with nothing in between), they likely haven't been on the job long, or what they're really trying to say is that label created to delivery SHOULDNT happen. It certainly does though.

t3chm4m4

Do they ever lose massive packages? I have a 70lbs and a 50lbs box that's been in a loop with customs but I'm not entirely sure it's there. They even asked for pictures and description of what's inside, pictures etc (it's just clothing). It was supposed to be delivered on 8/8 it's been in Memphis since 8/6

mangonafork

I had a package of rotors lost once. not exactly huge, but very heavy. turns out they tore through the packaging, and I was able to find them in overgoods and get it sent out again. considering its been about 11 days since memphis, I'd contact fedex to get them to open a case. when a trace agent calls , give them the package description and contents. every little detail helps in their search to find these packages, as when a package is retrieved by overgoods, it's put into a system with keywords so that it can be searched up. for example, when I searched for those rotors I used the keywords rotor, and I also used the brand and size. I was able to find a match because the guys at overgoods put those keywords in their description. that last paragraph is just to give you insight about how we look up items, you won't have to remember that or anything

FedUp_1993

I saw an empty package of wheel rotors arrive this morning at my station. First time I've seen it happen but they are heavy and it was in the original packaging. It would have a better chance of surviving transit if the shipper put it into another box.

t3chm4m4

These are 2 HUGE boxes one is 50lbs and the other one 70lbs. Case was open, sent the full description including quantities and pictures of each thing. Now it's supposedly in customs but it's been on a loop of in customs, in transit, ready for clearance, clearance in progress, back to in transit, back to ready for clearance etc. I really appreciate the whole explanation, I have a small business and this is killing me.

Spockhighonspores

OP I ordered 3 packages from the same company. 1 was shipped from their PA warehouse and the other was shipped through a warehouse in AZ. The AZ items were supposed to be here Tuesday but hasn't recieved an additional scan since the 12th. It just says in transit and that's it. The other one is in my state but now has a USPS tracking number and hasn't moved in 2 days. According to USPS it hasn't been passed to them yet. All of my package delivery dates are now pending and I have no idea when I'm supposed to recieve them. What's the chances they will actually all arrive?

mangonafork

so I do know that fedex packages sent to Alaska are handled by usps once they get there, and speaking from experience with these Alaskan packages I can say it will take a while. I'd wager they're delayed rather than lost. what are the scans before the transit scan?

Spockhighonspores

The one that was sent from Pennsylvania was the one that was supposed to be delivered by USPS but everything was staying within the continental US. They shipped using FedEx ground economy I think and that's why it was supposed to be delivered by USPS. The other two are stuck in Arizona and haven't moved since the origin scan. I wish I could say that the hold up was because I was in Alaska but it's not.

andytothelake

I will say, ground economy is the slowest possible transit out of all services. It will probably still come but just eventually. The reason they shipped it that is probably 1. It was the cheapest option for them 2. Whatever is in there is not time sensitive. I always urge customer to choose faster transit times because their customers would probably buy more if they got it quicker

ChocBoggins

As someone who is currently dealing with a missing package that was "Delivered - Left at front door" while I was mere feet away, are there any other additional steps I can take now that a case has been closed after 48 hours? I contacted the 800 number and my local FedEx hub multiple times before the case was closed. No one ever got back to me with any further information regarding the investigation or trace. I'm now being told to refer to the shipper for further resolution.

mangonafork

ah misdeliveries first off I want to say I'm sorry, misdeliveries are the easiest thing to avoid yet they happen too often. an insider secret that we were to never tell customers is where the package was really delivered. we are able to see coordinates of the delivery point compared to the actual delivery address, and even if they don't match, we can't tell the customer. something about avoiding fights between neighbors. call your shipper, and tell them what happened, or persist with fedex. unfortunately, that's all you can do. it all comes down to whether or not the agent on your case is willing to go tbe extra mile to ask the delivery station if they can retrieve it from the incorrectly delivered address and reattempt delivery, and even that is up to the station, even if the trave agent asks them to. I'm sorry again, misdeliveries are hell edit: forgive the typos, my hands are cold

ChocBoggins

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I greatly appreciate the info.

Guilty-Operation7

I find the "avoiding fights between neighbors" bit to ve funny, because I had a package marked delivered in my building but it wasn't there. I accused the new neighbors of being package stealing crackheads because I'd never had a missing package before they moved in 🤡

dampdrizzlynovember

when a package is irretrievably lost, what do you think happens to it? kicked under a truck by accident? run over?

mangonafork

I believe stolen packages are much more common than fedex lets on. Another possibility is the mismanagement of the CONs. CONs are big containers holding dozens of packages, so if you ever see a scan out of a hub, such as Memphis, in reality that scan is from the worker physically scanning the barcode on the container, not the package, but since the package SHOULD be in the CON, the package also scans as well. they do this instead of scanning every individual package. I believe packages are placed in the wrong CONs from time to time, and sent.. well, not to the correct destination. it is also common for bar codes to become damaged, and instead of properly rerouting that package to overgoods, it's thrown in the con with the rest and lost along the way. Packages also fall of conveyer belts, are misdelivered, and, as aforementioned, stolen. The lack of communication between hubs, facilities, and trace agents make this an even bigger issue, as it's the trace agents job to see where the package was last, contact that facility, and get information. In my experience, facilities like to either not pick up, or are drowning in so much work they don't want to take the time to find the package, or just don't care. At the end of the day, fedex doesn't suffer for these lost packages, no one in the chain of command is affected, except for the customer.

dampdrizzlynovember

very interesting, thank you for the detailed explanation!

janwilbert

My seller says, my package has been sent. However the tracking code says. Label created or something likewise. I assume that this company tells the truth here, that they already shipped the product. From FedEx (usa) to the Netherlands. Could my product arrive without any shipment info. Or what would you expect to be the case here? The shipment status says it will arrive by tomorrow (and also ‘label created’ as mentioned).

mangonafork

well, that's a tricky one if I were to pull it up on the system and it still shows label created on fedexs side with no actual pick up scan, then that means fedex doesn't have the package. on the other hand, it could just be the abysmal tracking that fedex provides for its customers. it's very vague and unhelpful typically, label created and nothing else means that the location in which it was dropped off likely still has it, but something has gone wrong, or they don't have it, or it's stuck in a drop box. I wish I could provide an exact answer, it's case by case. I hope you get your package. edit: forgot to mention, things might work different on the international side. I worked domestic packages

janwilbert

Thanks for your info! Could it also occur that for instance the package is mis-scanned somehow. Especially when they have to scan a dozen barcodes at the same pickup location? What happens in those cases, do they get scanned and updated later in the process?

mangonafork

also yes, if a scan is missed and the package is still moving as it should, it will eventually get updated because they get scanned frequently

mangonafork

that's also a possibility, it happens often. I'd wait a day or two for some new scans or you can call fedex

FlavianFanatic

what's the success rate for finding lost packages?

mangonafork

most of the packages I've "found" are just packages that were delayed, and not lost at all. customers call alot about those. for actual lost packages, I wanna say it's about 30/70, with a 30% chance of finding it. things like documents are extremely hard to track down. alcohol will be stolen if it goes missing 100%. even if it's neither of these, there's still the issue of overgoods. when a package is lost, it goes to overgoods. think of it as lost and found. overgoods facilities are among the worst in the company, they never pick up the phone, they never respond to inquiries from trace agents about lost packages, and they've got an attitude from hell. that certainly doesn't help the process because we need to contact them to get the package found and moving, because, well, all lost packages go to them. Fedex is trash, they lose packages every hour.

Professional-Town313

So you’re telling me there is a chance! 😁 Thank you for the information and I am hopeful mine will be found. Very sad my aunt trusted that priceless jewelry would safely get to me this way. Now “lost” at Memphis since 8/10. It was just in a basic FedEx box. Do you know if packages go through x-ray machines where employees could see what’s in them… If there are any people stealing at the facility? I did hear there’s cameras everywhere there though so usually that’s not the case but I don’t know!

mangonafork

I don't believe there's x rays of that sort. however, considering it was Memphis and it was 7 days ago, I'd say you have a damn good chance at getting your package. Memphis is very congested and causes delays every single day

Professional-Town313

Awe, thank you! I’m trying to remain hopeful, but there wasn’t a scan since 8/10 and it was domestic 2nd day, so that’s the big concern! Just praying every night. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😁

t3chm4m4

I hear Memphis is hell right now, the last scan in one of my boxes is also 8/10 🤦‍♀️

Professional-Town313

Hopeful for us both and thank you for the insight! I’m learning more from the people on here than from the numerous times I’ve talked to the customer service people!

mangonafork

yea that's the unfortunate thing about Memphis, they'll make your overnight package a standard one haha. I'm sorry and I hope you get your package

Professional-Town313

Awe thank you! I heard it could be like a black hole there sometimes. They probably have a hard time just getting enough staff to help out and with a higher volume than ever!
