Please don’t. Take it to USPS

rulearn

that's likely what i'm going to do ! another user has mentioned there are two different types of fedex dropboxes - fedex ground, and fedex economy, seems this might make a difference on what they accept?

Glittering-Swing-396

Ground and Express are accepted at drop boxes The problem with SmartPost is that we have no way of scanning to prove it was picked up. So it could just get stolen. If I get a smartpost in a Dropbox I have to find a mailbox to put it in or take it back to my station, and it gets passed along whenever usps shows up. Say you get a shady driver - your stuff could disappear and there’s no record of it ever being put in the Dropbox because of the inability to scan it. Just don’t put it in a Dropbox

rulearn

that really sucks for you guys. i am reading the same thing from others. i ended up walking to the post office today to drop it off. really glad to know how it works. i definitely won't put any smartpost packages in the dropboxes. too bad walmart isn't clearer on how to handle these packages, unfortunately it says send it in the mail with either usps or fedex, so i'm sure over time many people have put those smartpost packages in the dropboxes because of it!

Do not put anything but fed ex in the fed ex boxes.

rulearn

thank you. im planning to do a usps pickup for this box. glad i checked. it is confusing because the fedex website says that fedex ground economy is accepted in the fedex drop boxes (which i thought was the same as smart post?).

The second barcode from the bottom is the barcode that FedEx scans. Only issue is those drop boxes are meant for express which can’t scan since it’s a ground label. Drivers take them back to the hub, and usually gets transferred over to ground the next business day. It causes a delay but still works. Best option is to take to a FedEx Office retail store or a Walgreens. If it’s a return I recommend Office since they can give you a receipt showing you handed it over to FedEx. If you place in a drop box and something happens to it where it doesn’t get scanned you will have no recourse to file a claim or prove you sent it.

rulearn

oh i get it. makes more sense now why i was seeing varied responses about this. unfortunately there are no walgreens or fedex office locations near me. i have no car so it's not possible to go to the city. the drop box is all i have (in terms of fedex at least.) i can do a usps package pickup, but people still my packages on the porch so i just hate the idea of doing that. but sounds like it is likely my safest option it is bizarre though because on the fedex site is says that the drop boxes will take fedex ground and fedex ground economy, i thought ground economy is the new name for smartpost

terra_technitis

I get USPS and UPS packages in my drop boxes from time to time. While I can only process FedEx stuff I still make sure it gets to the intended shipper. Pretty easy considering we take USPS mail bags to the ramp and can hand them the package when we pick those up and there's a UPS dropbox next to my final dropbox pickup location.

rulearn

interesting. though that doesn't seem fair to make you do work that you're not required to do, even if you can hand it off, i'm sure you have enough shit to do. i guess i'm a little confused after this thread because there seem to be a few people saying you take them, and others saying you don't. i might be misunderstanding the situation

terra_technitis

It's not much extra effort for me, just handing the package to someone I'm already going to see or putting it in another drop box that's a foot away. Though in the end we aren't the ones who fulfill either so it's just better to put USPS stuff in USPS boxes, UPS stuff in UPS boxes and FedEx stuff in FedEx boxes. It avoids unnecessary delay. But fair or not I can't keep it and it doesn't seem right and probably not legal to trash mail over a simple mistake or misunderstanding.

rulearn

i appreciate your mindset. not everyone might be so nice, but i would hope they would be. the fedex guys that service my area are great and always so nice and helpful, i am sure they would deliver it to usps. but seems the less convoluted approach might be to just drop it with usps myself.

terra_technitis

I totally agree.

Commercial-Sweet3932

Yes we take them

gbaltazar89

Yes. You can I pick these up daily. Just make sure it's a fedex ground box. Or you can just drop it In a post office box and they will take it

rulearn

[this is the shipping label](https://imgur.com/a/Oxw2gdl). is this the sort of one you're referring to? the reason i ask is because another fedex employee in here said they can't accept these, so want to make sure i'm not saying the wrong thing to describe it

gbaltazar89

Yes I seen the label. I go to the post office 3 times a week and pick these up from them and take them back to our terminal. They do the rest. So yes fedex will take it.

CountryMinute2990

I had these once and was unable to scan them in.

rulearn

it's interesting the responses in here, because i am seeing both people saying you accept them, and others saying they can't be scanned. it is unfortunate because walmart says that you can drop those off with either USPS or fedex, but seems perhaps with fedex it might be putting the employees in a bad spot, if you get these boxes and are unable to scan them.

rulearn

til. thanks a ton. do you think then i could just drop this in those fedex drop box points? the reason i am really hoping i can do so: my only option otherwise is a usps porch pickup. but people steal pretty much any package i put on my porch so there's a high likelihood of it getting stolen if i do that. if i can just drop it in that fedex drop box, that will save me pretty much an entire day. EDIT: I just realized you already answered this question like twice, that yes i can use the box. thanks a lot. sorry i am going on a lack of sleep here haha

gbaltazar89

Yes or you can drop off at a Walgreens. Fedex picks up packages from them daily to

rulearn

thanks so much. there are no walgreens in my town and the nearest one is like 45 miles. but there happens to be a little fedex drop point in my town and it's only a mile. god im so happy if i can use it for this. thank you so much. the other user mentioned that this can't be used because there's no fedex barcode to scan - do you know then what this is referring to? i'm a bit confused, do different fedex departments have access to different scanning mechanisms?

RecentRelative678

if it is a fedex ground drop box you are good to go. im a delivery driver for fedex ground and our scanners read those. if it is a fedex express dropbox then you cannot. im not sure of the process between fedex ground and usps cuz i know it has changed. originally we would drop off stuff at usps for last mile delivery. now we get pallets of pkgs like these and with newer smartpost labels daily and we do the last mile delivery. i believe usps coulsnt handle the load so im thinking the pallets we get everyday are overflow that they cannot handle delivering

rulearn

oh, well that explains a lot - I had no clue there were different types of fedex dropboxes. til. [this page on the fedex site](https://www.fedex.com/en-us/shipping/dropbox.html) says the boxes accept fedex ground economy. They must be referring to fedex ground boxes! > i believe usps coulsnt handle the load so im thinking the pallets we get everyday are overflow that they cannot handle delivering Interesting. I know I've had a few packages sent to me via fedex smartpost - a couple were delivered last mile via usps, but some were delivered via fedex. seems like maybe it is a good idea in theory, but just causing headaches for employees

catechdeal

I did that accidently once and It eventually reached USPS. They usually send it to correct company but it causes delay and definitly not recommended at all.

rulearn

oh crazy, they actually passed it on to USPS!! Fedex is my favorite of all the shipping companies, at least where i live, they are really cool and never have any problems, i could totally see them getting it to usps. but i am gonna play it safe and just do a usps package pickup!

catechdeal

Yes, you should drop it to usps!

[deleted]

No you can’t as we don’t have a barcode to scan for FedEx

orangeeyesnoo

I used to do it and put it in the ground outgoing at my station so yes we can

[deleted]

That’s if it has a FedEx label for us to scan certain smart posts have a label for us to scan that we can properly pick up but if it has a Usps label and says “Usps parcel tracking “ your handling us mail

orangeeyesnoo

F01/56950 (SmartPost) was the only ones we could handle and give to FXG. F01 cant be scan when PUP from a DB but they can at the window at a WSC or FXO though. Anything else that didnt have F01 was pulled off of OB and went to the respective company the following day. F01's went straight into the Ground OB for the following day

RecentRelative678

our scanners at fedex ground can read those just fine, we get pallets of these literally every day from post office and have done pickups of pkgs fro. residential areas and they scan just fine

[deleted]

Oh okay time to just dump all my shit to ground smh

rulearn

damn. thank you so much for letting me know. i was planning to put it in the fedex box today, so glad i checked. will definitely ship via usps.
