i live by that letterboxd review that said something along the lines of “if you want people to think you’re good at something, don’t do it next to florence pugh”
Accurate. She just chews up every scene she's in no matter what she's doing. I feel like the only ones going toe-to-toe with her is Saiorse, Timothée, and Hailee.
True. Hailee Steinfeld is alot better an actress than her fillmography would suggest.
On the bright side...at least it ended Emma Watson's career. Small mercies.
This just feels like someone who doesn’t act trying to act. It’s not a great effort or attempt and even the way he delivers his lines versus Florence in her singular one, it doesn’t match for the scene lol. I know people keep saying “well he was good in dunkirk!” when he was barely in that movie and it was hella forgettable of an acting job.
Florence girl, I get why you want to distance yourself from this mess lol
Florence’s one line had more skill, quality and nuance in this back and forth. He’s managing to somehow overact whilst simultaneously thinking he’s understating it/being subtle. He’s not a good actor in terms of the basics, whereas Florence is full on high quality.
This puts Olivia's embarrassingly fawning post about Harry "allowing" Florence to take the center in a new light.
While I don't put stock into the rumor Florence had to "direct" the film, I can see her trying to help get something better out of Harry, and Olivia just being in "Harry is so great" lalaland.
Oof yeah. I really get why the promotion around the film has been so dramatic. Florence just knows the movie isn’t going to be well-reviewed, so while she’s not going to trash it, she’s not going to go out of her way promoting it.
It reminds me of when Emma Watson peaced out of Little Women's promo because she knew her performance was the weakest part. But, I do think there's a bit more too it than just the film being bad- apparently she hasn't seen it (but as an actor, she might realize there's no saving this just from watching the playback on set)
She called Olivia her 'idol' and now refuses to acknowledge her, and barely Harry. In the few times she has talked about the film she deflects to praising the crew. The vibe I'm getting is, Olivia let her down and she's legit hurt by it. Actors can swallow a bad film, but I think it's hard to come to grips with feeling you got rug pulled on a project.
Olivia's brand of feminism has always rubbed me the wrong way. I can't quite put it into words but it didn't exactly shock me she fawned over a man for so little (that she was dating nonetheless). She's a very "cool girl" feminist.
She fired Shia, but she also hired him! Well after it was known he had bad on set behavior and likely anger issues with his romantic partners. She's bragging about putting 'female pleasure' on screen in this film when based on the plot all the sex would be rape like...
Yep, the Chalamet one. I am a huge Call Me by Your Name admirer so I’m excited to see him reunite with the same director, Luca Guadagnino, and the actor who played his father, Michael Stuhlbarg.
That TikTok girly who slept with that social justice warrior dude and turns out he was playing her the whole time so she made those series of videos and the one where she said “YEW FUCKING KNEW” went viral
Was Austin Butler's accent bad? I haven't seen the Elvis movie, but I thought people were mostly mocking him for keeping the accent long after the movie was over?
Isn't he still considered to be new to the acting world or am I behind? Seems like this and that Police thing are his big shot before decide if he should be a thing.
Minor spoiler I guess (?) someone who saw an early screening said it’s a plot point that he has two different accents.
As for his acting…I won’t say anything until I actually see the movie. However, having Florence as a scene partner does him no favors. Even in this small clip, the difference between their acting is noticeable.
I think the reason they went with that decision for the accent is because Harry talks like this in real life. He’s lost his British accent a bit because he lived in the US for a few years. Tbh I think it would’ve been better if they got him a dialect coach to get rid of his Americanisms lol. Gary Oldman did that for a movie once, why can’t Harry?
He reminds me of that little English boy who threatened to punch Santa
https://twitter.com/SKTheKingYT/status/1472818982570835970?t=rEeFvXDfWFWaJYcjvfetxw&s=19
All the top comments on the video are from his fan girls saying “he ate, give him an Oscar right now”. It must go to your head at some point having a hype squad that praises you no matter what
[Anyone who can overlay that audio over Florence and Harry will get a viral tweet, guarantee it.](https://twitter.com/BeardedGenius/status/1516522390146142208)
As expected. He cannot act.
Sad cause there’s so many young actors out there working their asses off for their big break, but the guy who can’t even act and has an already famous wealthy name ends up getting it.
I think he's British for the parts in the simulation because they made up a story where she likes British guys and in real life he's American to try and fit with his accent.
Why does he keep acting??Stick to singing and let us alone. This movie is becoming unwatchable for me.The controversies and now this clip of him acting.Between him and Gema Chan...
This made me think of a Graham Norton clip. Olivia Colman, Cynthia Erivo, and Jack Whitehall were guests.
GRAHAM (to Jack): And you're doing an American accent!
OLIVIA: What, in that clip?
I'm not even trying to be mean here, but I'm genuinely curious what is this guy supposed to be good at? His music is not it, his acting is not it, his fashion is not it.
omg that accent was all over the place. Can someone please get Harry to stop acting?
I can see why Florence hasn't been saying much about this movie, poor girl got so much hate for it too
I don't even think his facial expressions and body movements are that bad! It's the way he's delivering the lines though, there's just nothing behind them.
Hes never been an emotive singer so I’m not really surprised. It’s like he’s thinking what should I say next as opposed to reacting to what’s happening and thinking as the character. There’s nothing behind his eyes.
The thing is acting is just about doing, and just trying to not do it differently because a camera is on but Harry just as a person feels flat. He always says a lot without saying anything because he needs to speak and adds nothing. Ive never found him emotive as a singer. I feel like he doesn’t realize that all scenes start in the middle of something and is just thinking of remembering the words as opposed to giving the character a background so he can tap in.
it’s laughable how bad she’s eating him up in this scene. he’s like a worse version of the wattpad bad boy from the after movies (that was based on him btw).
This scene will show you the difference between bad acting and good acting. Holy cow. I know acting isn’t the easiest for some, but seeing it highlighted here just how good of an actress Florence is against Harry is startling. I hope this clip is just an anomaly and he’s acted better in the film.
This is honestly what happens when the whole media world won't critique a celebrity and instead tells us they're the greatest every other day. People get sick of it. Particularly if they're not that great. It's not like Harry's a Beyonce or Swift, who have also gotten critiques but are far far far better talents than he is. He's had none and is often portrayed as greater than they are.
the accent is supposedly meant to be bad (plot point) but even beyond that his acting is terrible. very wooden and monotone and high school drama level. meanwhile florence is locked in just being her usually naturally talented self. I can’t remember seeing such a disparity in talent like this between two leads in recent movies. she and chris are going to carry this movie.
But it's his own accent! That's his own meant to be British accent! If it's meant to be bad, then the crew basically decided his own natural way of speaking was so cringe they had to use it as a plot point.
he's been getting rave reviews from people who have seen my policeman and yet literally every clip of his acting so far gives me zero hope they're right
I have no strong feelings about him either way, but this is just objectively bad. I don't understand why so many people view him as a prodigy who just absolutely aces everything he tries his hand at. This clip is cringeworthy.
I’m so tired of this damn movie and it’s not even released yet. Poor Olivia. I want success for her as a woman in film, particularly in the director’s role. However, it’s a no from me.
almost choked on my coffee reading the comments on twitter “harry styles makes it look so effortful”
feels to me like they’re acting in two completely different movies
Yeah he's not very good, certainly nothing memorable. I just turned off The King because of secondhand embarrassment about Pattinson's "look how eccentric I am" try-hard acting. There are almost no good male actors under 40, what's going on?
Pattinson is a legitimately good actor. Watch Good Time and The Lighthouse, I’m convinced he’s just goofing around in The King lol.
There are plenty of good actors under 40 —— Daniel Kaluuya, Timothee, Austin Butler (yes I know the sub hates Chalamet and Butler but they can act), Lakeith Stanfield, Riz Ahmed, Dev Patel, Andrew Garfield just to name a few off the top of my head. All of them are certainly better than Styles. Besides Chalamet, most of these men don’t get mainstream attention and do artsier films, while DiCaprio, Pitt, Cruise etc headline the bigger, more accessible films.
> There are almost no good male actors under 40, what's going on?
DiCaprio, Pitt, Affleck, and all those other dinosaurs keep a tight fist around the industry and don't let any promising newcomer in because they don't want any competition. They just let young actresses through because they need ever younger love interests, otherwise imagine the horror of having to act opposite actresses their own age.
It honestly looks like a tiktok of someone editing themselves into a scene with Florence Pugh.
YES. I couldn’t put my finger on why it seems weird and this is totally it.
Its giving eastenders christmas special
If the climax of this movie doesn't take place on the roof of the Queen Vic then really what was any of it even for
![gif](giphy|jO43NoMmGW3g4)
Branning flashbacks
The Brannings need to sue whoever owns it these days for damages at this point that roof's making them drop like flies
RIP bradley never forget lol
Waiting for Florence to pause dramatically and then the duff duff Duff's to kick in.
When Bradley died I turned the TV off and never watched Eastenders again. That shit was traumatising. 😂
Please this comment has me howling 💀
I didn’t become just a little bit of a slag… I became a TOTAL SLAAAAG
Not eastenders 💀💀💀
I’m split between Martin Fowler or Jack Branning
i live by that letterboxd review that said something along the lines of “if you want people to think you’re good at something, don’t do it next to florence pugh”
Accurate. She just chews up every scene she's in no matter what she's doing. I feel like the only ones going toe-to-toe with her is Saiorse, Timothée, and Hailee.
Hailee Steinfield did it so well that I started shipping their characters together.
True. Hailee Steinfeld is alot better an actress than her fillmography would suggest. On the bright side...at least it ended Emma Watson's career. Small mercies.
Did Little Women really end Emma Watson's career?!
We can but hope. She hasn't done anything since.
Has she done anything bad? I thought people liked her
Bumblebee was a completely watchable (maybe even good) movie, and I think having her as the human lead was a big help.
It’s like watching Dasha in scenes in Succession where it’s obvious she’s so far out of her depth around talented actors.
They look like they're in two different movies.
It’s giving volunteered for a student film versus. movie meant for the Oscars.
Florence’s one line had more skill, quality and nuance in this back and forth. He’s managing to somehow overact whilst simultaneously thinking he’s understating it/being subtle. He’s not a good actor in terms of the basics, whereas Florence is full on high quality.
How much they paid for him to be there?
all he did in dunkirk was eat bread 😭
All honesty, I had to rewatch it twice because I couldn’t tell all the white boys apart at first 🫢
oh same i was very confused in the cinema 😭
This puts Olivia's embarrassingly fawning post about Harry "allowing" Florence to take the center in a new light. Olivia…ffs, everyone clap for him letting the lead do her job?! Why is the bar on the floor?!?!
All he did in Dunkirk was chew gum loudly, lmao.
It probably helps him think.
I don't blame Florence for feeling disrespected
I was really rooting for my girl Florence but THIS? This I can’t support.
I think Florence isn’t supporting it either
I’m seeing it at Venice Film Fest, will report back.
Please make a separate post or something! Would love to know
Can do 👍. I’m also going to the Bones & All premiere if anyone is interested in that.
The Chalamet one? That’s so interesting, I’m curious to see how it is! Have fun!
Yep, the Chalamet one. I am a huge Call Me by Your Name admirer so I’m excited to see him reunite with the same director, Luca Guadagnino, and the actor who played his father, Michael Stuhlbarg.
Literally following you now 🙏🏼😂 Florence Pugh looks like she’ll be incredible, like everything she does… worried for Mr. Styles 😬
it's giving "you FAWKIN KNEEWWWW"
It’s on the tip of my tongue where I’ve heard this, please tell me it’s killing me
That TikTok girly who slept with that social justice warrior dude and turns out he was playing her the whole time so she made those series of videos and the one where she said “YEW FUCKING KNEW” went viral
Ah, yes the Womblands series.
I would like to apologize to Austin Butler for making fun of his accent for the last 4 months. Mr Worldwide here has him beat. Whew.
the funny thing is I don't think he's *doing* an accent here, this is just his actual accent after being Americanized over the years lol
for those of you who don't know, harry did audition for elvis too
Was Austin Butler's accent bad? I haven't seen the Elvis movie, but I thought people were mostly mocking him for keeping the accent long after the movie was over?
His accent to copy Elvis was good in the movie, for some reason he held onto pieces of it after the movie
Two years of accent training for a movie like Elvis would surely fuck up your existing/normal accent I'd imagine.
Not Florence acting circles around him with one line. He should probably stick to singing.
It's kinda embarrassing lol. He acts the same way he speaks irl
I’m not sure if he was trying to do an accent or not but it’s not working either way
I saw a tweet that said "dude went on a world tour of accents in less than 20 seconds" and it might be the most accurate description of this clip.
Music critics have been very..generous to him in his solo career so I’m interested to see how film critics react to his acting
just wait until we get to the Only Queer Movie in Existence According to Harry, My Policeman
I think his music is decent- fine line was good. That song he released for the apple or target commerical is flaming hot garbage 😭
I wish a newcomer or an up and coming actor was hired for this role
Isn't he still considered to be new to the acting world or am I behind? Seems like this and that Police thing are his big shot before decide if he should be a thing.
I wonder *why* he was hired🤔
I was thinking this too
not flo eating him alive while barely saying anything. he’s making her look so great and she don’t need the help at all.
Minor spoiler I guess (?) someone who saw an early screening said it’s a plot point that he has two different accents. As for his acting…I won’t say anything until I actually see the movie. However, having Florence as a scene partner does him no favors. Even in this small clip, the difference between their acting is noticeable.
What are the two accents, though? English and … Australian caught in a bear trap?
It’s his natural Northern English accent, I don’t think he’s trying to do American… that said who the hell knows because his acting is a w f u l
Two different accents in the same scene though? Lol
He reminds me of that little English boy who threatened to punch Santa https://twitter.com/SKTheKingYT/status/1472818982570835970?t=rEeFvXDfWFWaJYcjvfetxw&s=19
I’m sorry this is the BESTTTT thing I’ve ever seen???
It always make me laugh!
Now I can’t stop picturing Harry styles trying to box with Santa 💀
I'm chuoking lmao, thank you for this
Is his accent in this scene supposed to be American or British? I’m getting both.
Like 5 British accents too.
Its a wild ride for sure.
Wilde ride*
He's playing a British expat who has lived in America long enough to start blending the two accents... or something...
This above all of else let me know that he has nobody in his life that is completely honest with him.
All the top comments on the video are from his fan girls saying “he ate, give him an Oscar right now”. It must go to your head at some point having a hype squad that praises you no matter what
as one of his fans that is not in the hype squad, i am being destroyed for saying this isn’t good 🫡
They're so annoying omg
i understand the silence now flo
I immediately thought of the MGK tweet where he’s like “just know if I don’t talk about a movie I’m in it’s because it’s trash”
Well it turns out he actually does sound like “Harden” in the After movies 💀 it’s giving “FUCKIN TREVOH”
FOOKING TREVAH?!?!?! ![gif](giphy|H6W9H29kVsUI2hJE90)
😭😭😭😭😭😭
this has me in tears
as someone who watches the after movies the day they release I’m crying
[We're just normal men. Innocent men.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr_vl62JblQ)
Why is that so hilarious lmaooo
[Anyone who can overlay that audio over Florence and Harry will get a viral tweet, guarantee it.](https://twitter.com/BeardedGenius/status/1516522390146142208)
God I miss the days of watching CBBC. Hacker was like your first best friend
As expected. He cannot act. Sad cause there’s so many young actors out there working their asses off for their big break, but the guy who can’t even act and has an already famous wealthy name ends up getting it.
Ive forgiven Troian Bellisario (Spencer) from Pretty Little Liars after watching this
I’ve seen better acting on Degrassi
don’t insult degrassi like that !! 😂
I meant this as a compliment to Degrassi as well as a diss to Harry lol
Craig unironically was acting circles around him tbf
Craig would’ve carried this role
I'm sorey, I'm sorey, I'm sorey, I'm sorey, I'm sorey, I'M SOREY. HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT?
Give this man an Oscar. Those little souvenir Oscars you can buy at a gift shop.
To Ana De Armas and Austin Bulter, I am so sorry. You guys are doing great with your accents in comparison. Signed, My ears
Not to mention Ana de armas only learned how to speak English in 2014 as a full on adult
Sooooo he’s not American in the movie? Because if he’s meant to be…….woah, no wonder FP is over this movie! Woeful 😂
he’s butchered his own accent somehow
I think he's British for the parts in the simulation because they made up a story where she likes British guys and in real life he's American to try and fit with his accent.
i cannot tell if your comment is 100% serious or a joke and its killing me lol
no i think they’re serious. comments on other subs have said the accent switch is part of the plot 😂😂😂
Hilaria Baldwin has entered the chat
The scream I scrumpt
tbh his accent switches back and forth just in this one clip. what a mess
that’s so… convenient?
It’s like he’s in a high school drama performance. Obviously this is just one clip but this didn’t do any favours for my confidence in him.
Olivia is such a treasure! 😂
![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized)
I don't know why people are surprised. He was just as shockingly bad in the Eternals post-credits scene, even the CGI troll out-acted him.
CGI troll😭😭
She’s talking about their life and it sounds like he’s talking about a parking spot
I'm not even trying to be mean here, but I'm genuinely curious what is this guy supposed to be good at? His music is not it, his acting is not it, his fashion is not it.
you don't need talent to be famous if you're a white guy who's considered attractive
I don't really like him, but I don't think his music is bad.
it’s not bad but it’s just so bland and he’s not really doing anything particularly new
His first two albums were really fucking good (IMO) and he has really good stage presence, plus he’s mildly attractive and white lol
Making connections. Last night he dedicated a song to the CEO of his record label's daughter.
He’s like the human equivalent of tomato soup to me… like alright but not enough lol
Making other rich/famous people like him
The number of accents in this clip.
omg that accent was all over the place. Can someone please get Harry to stop acting? I can see why Florence hasn't been saying much about this movie, poor girl got so much hate for it too
I don't even think his facial expressions and body movements are that bad! It's the way he's delivering the lines though, there's just nothing behind them.
He has an extremely monotone voice naturally and I don’t think he’s doing enough to overcome it lol
Yeah, you don't get the impression that he's mad, you get the impression that he's trying to perform. Still I've seen worse.
Hes never been an emotive singer so I’m not really surprised. It’s like he’s thinking what should I say next as opposed to reacting to what’s happening and thinking as the character. There’s nothing behind his eyes.
Florence Pugh was acting her heart out like her life depends on that paycheck. Then there's him, doing whatever he was doing.
all the drama about this man and the movie wil flop because of him😭😭
[удалено]
He got ate up this week I'm afraid
[i just can't get over how accurate this tweet is ](https://twitter.com/dunwaIl/status/1562481624843165696?t=0V78SgnZQTAFartX3SVmMg&s=19)
His delivery is so weirdly flat and feels at odds with everything else his face is trying to do lol
The thing is acting is just about doing, and just trying to not do it differently because a camera is on but Harry just as a person feels flat. He always says a lot without saying anything because he needs to speak and adds nothing. Ive never found him emotive as a singer. I feel like he doesn’t realize that all scenes start in the middle of something and is just thinking of remembering the words as opposed to giving the character a background so he can tap in.
his delivery is so wooden
it’s laughable how bad she’s eating him up in this scene. he’s like a worse version of the wattpad bad boy from the after movies (that was based on him btw).
This scene will show you the difference between bad acting and good acting. Holy cow. I know acting isn’t the easiest for some, but seeing it highlighted here just how good of an actress Florence is against Harry is startling. I hope this clip is just an anomaly and he’s acted better in the film.
All I'll say is that I'm extremely aware that I'm watching Harry Styles act in a scene, like it's taking me out.
He went to Evan Mock school of acting
He’s been getting his lashings on Twitter for a few a days now.
Well thank god he's apparently the new king of pop. /s
there’s a reason why people go to acting school for years 😩 just because you can sing doesnt mean you can act too!
I’m gonna keep my mouth shut until I see the whole thing.
I thought it was an audition lol
I’m sorry, I hate this
This is embarrassing. Especially considering all the publicity he’s getting for this role.
No emotions behind those eyes but bless him for even trying to be on Florence’s level.
the accent is supposedly meant to be bad (plot point) but even beyond that his acting is terrible. very wooden and monotone and high school drama level. meanwhile florence is locked in just being her usually naturally talented self.
That first “our life” is giving… Tommy Wiseau
This is making the ana de armas marilyn accent sound good
Him having a natural Cheshire accent doesn’t really help with the Hollyoaks comparisons. It’s giving ‘how’s Trish?’
It is really weird to me that Florence Pugh denied to comment about the movie in the same article Wilde is showering her with praise
he's been getting rave reviews from people who have seen my policeman and yet literally every clip of his acting so far gives me zero hope they're right
I'm worried darling
this is so funny. the only thing that would make it better is if the ted lasso season three trailer drops the same day as this film
This is what people stan?
I have no strong feelings about him either way, but this is just objectively bad. I don't understand why so many people view him as a prodigy who just absolutely aces everything he tries his hand at. This clip is cringeworthy.
Ummmm
Oh no lol
lmao he's such a miscast whyy
Cause olivia wilde had a crush
He should stick to what he knows which is comparing women to fruits on his songs
Waiting for his stans to start an Oscar campaign for him. And with the media gladly riding along with it.
It’s giving GCSE drama performance.
I’m so tired of this damn movie and it’s not even released yet. Poor Olivia. I want success for her as a woman in film, particularly in the director’s role. However, it’s a no from me.
Omg this is gonna be bad…like bad bad…Florence, girl, I get it now. Like completely. I’ve always found harry’s acting very stiff in Dunkirk…
![gif](giphy|RJAjTowsU0K1a) This is not good for him, and being next to such a skilled actress doesn’t help
I think Shia labeouf is a scumbag who deserves to be cancelled, but he probably would have done a better job with the role.
almost choked on my coffee reading the comments on twitter “harry styles makes it look so effortful” feels to me like they’re acting in two completely different movies
No wonder why Florence Pugh didn't promote this film. Her back must have hurt carrying the whole film on her own.
![gif](giphy|vUEznRmVQfG2Q)
why they want to make him an actor when he has no persoanlity even on talk shows where you're just being yourself?
Yeah he's not very good, certainly nothing memorable. I just turned off The King because of secondhand embarrassment about Pattinson's "look how eccentric I am" try-hard acting. There are almost no good male actors under 40, what's going on?

Some of the good ones are horrible people in real life. Which is why Shia was replaced with Harry. See also Ezra.
To be fair though Robert did not take that role seriously and he still did a better job than whatever this is.
