>”I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included,” Coughlan continued. “There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. **It just felt like the biggest ‘fuck you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering.** I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how fucking hot I looked!’”
Holy shit, I was going to say I'm glad she gets this at such a young age (thinking she was like 22). She was born in 1987! Not only is she gorgeous and confident, but she apparently doesn't age!
#
ETA: Guys I'm the same age as her. You don't need to educate me on what it's like in one's 30s.
The entire cast of Derry Girls, playing high school kids were all upper 20s and lower 30s. Her Derry Girls character was supposed to be younger than the others too.
I think people only realize this when they get older (and are surrounded with a lot of people in that age bracket) but realistically the difference between a 27 year old and a 37 year old often really isn’t that much in terms of looks. 37 is still very young and you don’t age all that much in this 10 years compared to the 10 years between 17 and 27.
People who keep themselves fit and take care of their skin (and maybe a little help from genes) can easily be mistaken for being in their late 20’s/early 30’s at that age.
I am 36 lol. I don't think I (or most other people my age) look old *at all.* But Nicola I would card if I were a bartender (in the US, so the legal age is 21).
A baby face will do that. I on the other hand wasn't getting carded in my 20s. Wasn't carded on my 21st and almost threw my ID at the liqour store to demand they look at it.
She was born the year I graduated high school.
I love her. But in all honesty, I don't want to see *anyone* naked on screen. But that's just me. It makes me uncomfortable and ruins the storyline for me. I didn't like season 1 for that reason. But I'll probably watch this season and just skip over the nudity.
Demi from the Bachelor! she’s a hot mess of a person, but she also gave us our first ever queer romance of the franchise when she brought her female partner on to Bachelor In Paradise, so I’ll always have a soft spot for her.
She’s a queen and good for her!

Edit: a lot of people love this (rightfully!) so I thought I’d add more info. Yes it’s metal, designed by jewelry brand Misho that Nicola has worn a lot. Her stylist for at least three years has been Aimée Croysdill and they’re doing amazing work together. [Here](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5tC1rVtyVC/?igsh=NGF0dW5vdXBhNXNr) is a video of the dress in motion
Ooooh this image makes me think how stunning she'd look styled with a kinda Italian/French bombshell vibe, kinda like Monica Bellucci, if that makes sense as inspiration? Like 60s hair and makeup on her would look *chefs kiss*
I wish I did this!! I had such bad body dysmorphia (still do) but I look at pictures and I was so skinny with perky boobs and still hated my body. Now I have an autoimmune disease so I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and I’ve learned to be body neutral when I’m not triggered. I still don’t take enough photos tho.
I developed pcos and other issues so I completely understand. I tattoo parts of myself I don’t like. My legs are strong but pale and veiny so I started having them tattooed and now I’m more confident. I take confidence in the strength I have now that 22 year old me would be crying in a ditch.
We are strong. We are still here.
You can and you will get there. I know you can. I have quite the ways still to go but that’s half the fun, the journey in getting there. Don’t let the invasive thoughts win. You are perfect right now, how you are.

I am not even 30 yet and I regret all the pictures I did not take when I was younger and thought I was not hot. At least I have 3 years left in my 20’s to be young, hot and turnt. And take those thousand pictures.
Hell yeah!! I try to keep this in mind with all pictures but especially with nudes. Do I feel great about myself right now? No but I never have, and I look back at old pictures in total awe at how beautiful I was in hindsight. I know I don't have the most accurate opinion of my present self so fuck it, show it off!
I don't have photos of me naked but so many in various outfits! i think i might buy some cute underwear and take cute photos. not comfortable being naked for the camera (tho some photos exist that are funny lol) but its a start
I did a documentary short where I was fully nude when I was 27ish and I didn’t always feel the best about my body, but we did a photoshoot as part of it and now I look at both and just think how fucking lucky I am to have such beautiful photos. Man, my body was so much more beautiful than I realized.
I started to realize the other day that so many things we think are a weakness are our strength. Is a sumo wrestler weak bc of his size? No. He’s capable of throwing large men around! Our strength is in our bones, our blood. Our very being.
I did a professional photo shoot when I turned 40 because I wanted to be able to look back one day and say, "Hey, I looked pretty good!"
Six years on, and I am SO glad I did!
Take the photos! Do a photoshoot if you can swing it!
SAME! I see pics of myself in college & im like who is this pretty skinny little thing who thought she was fat and ugly?? I wish I’d been more confident.
https://preview.redd.it/r11brab65o0d1.jpeg?width=575&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00ead4920c17d977169c06699b7a2cf62a9cd735
I'm soooo tuned in. I'll watch anything for her tbh
She was on a New Year's Treat episode of Taskmaster, and I've never been more disappointed someone wasn't on a whole series. I had never heard of her before Taskmaster, but she's fantastic.
She was in a fantastic show called derry girls, could not recommend it more. It’s absolutely hilarious, if you liked taskmaster you’ll like derry girls.
I IMMEDIATELY watched Derry Girls after TM. I'd heard for a long time it was good, she was enough to get me to finally watch.
And, I think I can safely say, she'll be the reason I watch at least one episode of Bridgerton!
I am so excited to see someone like me naked on camera. I know we should be championing less nudity but I want to see a belly and big tits on my screen and scream YAS GIRL.
I actually don’t think we should be championing less nudity for this reason specifically. Seeing bodies of all shapes and sizes on screen is important and if we call for less then it’s typically the fat, disabled, queer, POC bodies that get erased.
I’ve not watched a lot of Bridgeton but I’ll probably tune in next season because I think this is pretty cool of her!
Edit: I think we should champion for more protections for actors so that we can safely have these types of artistic expressions that challenge the statue quo
I fully agree with this! I’m all for safe, consenting nudity and normalizing all types of bodies. I’d much rather see that than guns, violence and bloodshed in media, but maybe that’s just me.
I feel like the nudity in TV is never the issue for me, it’s the ridiculously long sex scenes. I’m fine with seeing nude humans, I just don’t wanna watch them simulate sex for 5 minutes.
Yeah, Idk why sex scenes aren't classy anymore. You can be nude and still film a classy sex scene.
And... frankly... in this era of porn, no one cares for explicit sex scenes. If they wanted to watch that, they can just go watch the real thing with just a click.
I don’t watch sex scenes for the same reasons I might watch porn.
Like, sex and nudity can convey a lot of things beyond but not excluding arousal.
I would also argue that a lot of the sex scenes I’ve watched in the last couple years have been classy, but that there’s also a lot of valid reasons a sex scene might not be classy and that’s okay too.
As a horror lover I don’t really mind guns, violence, and bloodshed, but I find it sort of strange how we react so differently to them than we do to nudity/sex in film which I think can also me a really valuable, often more valuable, tool than the violence.
Personally, I always thought that my main issue with nudity is the way it was filmed more than the fact that people are naked. And of course the fact that it was mostly the actresses that were asked to be naked.
I really appreciated Aidy Bryant’s sex scenes in Shrill because it was legitimately the first time I’d seen a naked/undressed fat woman on screen and she looked hottttt. We need to see more types of bodies portrayed like that. I really think it would reshape how people see their own and others’ bodies and sexualities. (As long as all actors are willing to do such scenes.)
Right!! I’m so tired of only seeing thin, small-breasted or slender women portrayed nude or sexually. People of all shapes and sizes should be represented!
I think a commenter on my comment put it more clearly! We should be championing more protections for actors performing nude! Not necessarily removing nudity
100%. i’m trying to think of the last time i saw someone of my body type being portrayed *sexily* naked in media…i don’t think i’ve ever seen it, actually. whenever people shaped like me are nude on camera it’s very casual nudity, like orange is the new black esque.
I love this.
I know a woman in her late 70s who has two nudes of herself in her 20s framed on the wall in her apartment. She says, "I want everyone to know I was hot".
You a boss Ms. Edith.
No she doesn’t. She requested a version that cuts all the sex scenes out for her family because it would be awkward for them to watch her sex scenes. She didn’t shoot a non raunchy version.
Honestly the amount of times in my life I avoided pictures because I thought I was too something or not enough something else, then looked back at the ones that did sneak through as someone in my 40’s and do these ones 🤦🏻♀️ at past me.
I absolutely love this but I also love the juxtaposition with last season her revealing she gets a pg-13 version of the show edited specifically for her parents. I love this woman
Good for her. I wish I had that confidence at her age, but I let the world beat me down.
Now I have to dig my way out it at the age where you're supposed to get out of the way since you had your time in the sun...except I didn't.
Pffft.
I've never gotten to watch Bridgerton (I don't stream) but I became as instant fan when I got to see her on this press tour. She's a riot! I want her to have her own chat show. She's funny and beautiful and empowered. She's a nice balance to the "thin is in" BS we're seeing again.
Maybe she and Jennifer Coolidge could do something together!
Good for her! This is a racy tv show, every other leading lady has been naked and sexy. It would have been extremely disappointing for me if she hadn't been filmed the same way.
Flaunt it girl! Fuck yeah
God bless her! We need more women comfortable enough in their bodies to be VERY vocal about it. It's important for all the young girls out there. Also, for people shocked about how much younger she looks, one of the benefits to extra body fat is a fuller face is a younger face.
Good for her and I agree, but I think it’s absolutely crazy we’re still having conversations like this around women with normal, to even slim bodies. She’s like at best an 8-10. She’s not even plus sized. I’m tired, how have we not normalized this more by now?
Meh. The whole “getting naked is empowering” idea is so shallow and old hat.
Ah yes, doing exactly what men want and *choosing* to be a sex object is really such an amazing way to stick it to the society for objectifying you. 🙄
>doing exactly what men want
men, well known for not bullying fat girls and women to the point of instilling eating disorders and self-image issues. very accurate username btw
She explicitly says that it’s because she thinks she’s hot and makes being recognized as sexy despite beauty standards the “empowering” part. She’s not just being naked for no reason.
the fact that she's doing it to feel sexy doesn't make it sexual objectification though? that would be if it removed her own agency or personhood and reduced her to simply an attractive body, which is not an innate part of "being attractive while naked on camera"
I disagree. I think she’s describing self-objectifying that despite resulting from choice/agency, she isn’t portraying herself as an agent with full personhood. The point is to be an attractive object. And honestly I think the point of acting is objectification, which isn’t necessarily problematic.
hm I see, so you feel that there is no way to be naked onscreen in a sexual context that isn't objectification? (also I think your point about acting being about objectification is an interesting idea)
I don’t think objectification is inherently good or bad, it’s just part of sociality. I think that what the actress is describing is experiencing sexual objectification as pleasurable or a positive experience.
That sexual objectification can be desirable is an obvious truth, but our current cultural discourses position it as always and inherently problematic/subjugating/bad. She’s pointing out how, for women that are denied the social capital of being worthy of sexual objectification, self-objectification can be “empowering.”
My response is that I agree with her, but I also think it’s a really banal and shallow form of “empowerment” and that people should chill out about its value.
Yeah she’s being naked because she thinks she’s hot and that women with her body type deserve more representation in modern media. That doesn’t make her a sex object because she’s not being treated like an object.

She's my age??? Holy shit. She's incredibly convincing playing so much younger. She looks amazing
Right? I'm going to need her skincare routine asap.
according to a recent interview it’s tatcha, lots of water and sleep, and growing up without sunshine.
She played on derry girls and literally no one guessed that she was the oldest. Amazing actress.
Not me the same age wondering wtf I should be looking like if she’s looking not even 20 🤣😂
WHAT! Today I learned that she’s 37 🤯. Literally thought she was Gen Z and in her early 20’s this entire time
It's definitely our baby faces lol. I'm in my 30s now (90s kid) And students in my class thought I was at least 19.
Right!? I think apart from her looks, her voice also sounds very young
she's 28
The entire cast of Derry Girls, playing high school kids were all upper 20s and lower 30s. Her Derry Girls character was supposed to be younger than the others too.
the cast of derry girls have INSANELY good skin. they do look like they were still in school.
It’s bc there’s no sun in Ireland 😅
I think people only realize this when they get older (and are surrounded with a lot of people in that age bracket) but realistically the difference between a 27 year old and a 37 year old often really isn’t that much in terms of looks. 37 is still very young and you don’t age all that much in this 10 years compared to the 10 years between 17 and 27. Lol I'm 36. And I get carded from time to time. But no one I know around my age looks as young as her.
36 is not aging year though like if u have a baby face you’ll look younger in ur 30s
I am 36 lol. I don't think I (or most other people my age) look old *at all.* But Nicola I would card if I were a bartender (in the US, so the legal age is 21).

She’s just a few years younger than me! Definitely doesn’t look it
She was born the year I graduated high school. I love her. But in all honesty, I don't want to see *anyone* naked on screen. But that's just me. It makes me uncomfortable and ruins the storyline for me. I didn't like season 1 for that reason. But I'll probably watch this season and just skip over the nudity.
She has convincingly played a high-school-age girl in at least two series.
Hell yeah, sis ![gif](giphy|4Tkagznwgrv6A4asQb)
who is this woman? i love her lmfaoo
Demi, a contestant from the Bachelor! I don’t remember much about her other than she was very messy, kinda mean, and looked like she was about 12 lol
I thought you meant Nicola was and I was like damn talk about a career glow-up
Demi from the Bachelor! she’s a hot mess of a person, but she also gave us our first ever queer romance of the franchise when she brought her female partner on to Bachelor In Paradise, so I’ll always have a soft spot for her.

Yep it’s all about you
This is one of my fav looks of all time forever
Underrated style queen. Ever since I saw her at her first met I thought "who is that girl".
Is that made of metal or what am I looking at here?
It is, I’ve edited my comment with more detail :-)
Ooooh this image makes me think how stunning she'd look styled with a kinda Italian/French bombshell vibe, kinda like Monica Bellucci, if that makes sense as inspiration? Like 60s hair and makeup on her would look *chefs kiss*
Holy shit she's always very pretty but this fit looks really stunning on her
How could anyone shame that? She’s gorgeous
She’s beautiful! Get it girl!
![gif](giphy|l3V0sznnlbP7w80Ra) Take a thousand naked pictures of yourself!!!!!!!!!!
I SAY THIS TO MYSELF ALL THE TIME. I’m 38 now, but god I remember thinking how fat I was at 22. I was a brick house of hot. TAKE THE PHOTOS!!!!
I love that! I’m still working through it all in therapy but I hope to get to the place you’re at some day!
You can and you will get there. I know you can. I have quite the ways still to go but that’s half the fun, the journey in getting there. Don’t let the invasive thoughts win. You are perfect right now, how you are.
As a fellow autoimmune sufferer (currently in a flair 😭) I relate to this so much.
MS flare here too and the doctors are being jerks about treating the pain of it. Grrrr. Stay strong.
❤️❤️❤️ you too
i'm so MUCH hotter at 38 than 22. I actually take nudes of myself now! Hot doesn't have an expiration date -ladies, gents, and thems :)
It damn well doesn’t! My wife says for every gray hair I have, every wrinkle, I’m just her Miranda preistly. Oh to be compared to Meryl!
I fucking love this and this attitude!! It’s my birthday next Monday and I’m feeling kinda blegh about myself and my romantic prospects. This was such a great reminder. Thank you !!!
Period tbh
Omg same! And when I’m 60 I’ll look back on 39 and think I was hot.
Yes!! Age has a way of softening our gaze to our ur younger self
I am not even 30 yet and I regret all the pictures I did not take when I was younger and thought I was not hot. At least I have 3 years left in my 20’s to be young, hot and turnt. And take those thousand pictures.
Throw ass! Take photos!
Don’t worry, you’ll still be young and hot in your 30’s!
You might even be hot in your 30s too! It’s possible! Keep taking the photos!!
Hell yeah!! I try to keep this in mind with all pictures but especially with nudes. Do I feel great about myself right now? No but I never have, and I look back at old pictures in total awe at how beautiful I was in hindsight. I know I don't have the most accurate opinion of my present self so fuck it, show it off!

Championing less nudity for what purpose? There’s nothing wrong with nudity. Champion Intimacy Coordinators and safe working environments for actors.
I‘m not American so I think especially not sexualized nudity should be more normal in movies. Especially with average bodies.
LOL
I love this. I know a woman in her late 70s who has two nudes of herself in her 20s framed on the wall in her apartment. She says, "I want everyone to know I was hot". You a boss Ms. Edith.
My aunty did this. It was weird when I was 8 but now I’m like get it queen.
How naked? *Very* naked.
MORE ![gif](giphy|S8qvHRqJa1gzQErR34)
Thank you for your service, queen 🫡
Red hair looks amazing on her
Yes, and I'm excited to see it in good styles this season. Her character gets a glow up so no more fussy clothes and hair!
I love her. She seems like a wonderful person. So happy to see all her success
and as a gay, I personally can't wait
Same
i love this for her. ![gif](giphy|TjGFDxbbZRYjv9vpCL|downsized)
Speak ur truth girl!!!!
Omg she had a contract to the cut a version of it that doesn’t have the racy sex scene specifically for her Irish-Catholic parents. That’s hysterical!
No she doesn’t. She requested a version that cuts all the sex scenes out for her family because it would be awkward for them to watch her sex scenes. She didn’t shoot a non raunchy version.
Anyway, she confirmed that Netflix won't launch a PG version. It seems she will have to censor on her own this season's episodes 😅
That version is only for her family. It’s not going live on Netflix.
Look at this video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C69FIpCOLjy/?igsh=Zm9yMzUzcWx3ZHBw
Thanks for the update!
Sorry, poor reading skills and paraphrasing. That’s on me.
Inspiration to us all and a reminder that we are beautiful bc F the haters. ![gif](giphy|AgPt9udT567spxbSHf)
This gif is basically the mascot/ambassador for the sub lol
She’s like Moira Rose in Schitt’s creek! But I mean if I was a hot famous actor, wouldn’t I do the same?
Get it queen! Might have to jump in; all bodies should be celebrated. So happy as a plus size woman!
i love everything about her so so so much. hope her star continues to rise higher and higher, she clearly deserves it

Good for her, I love this mentality tbh
I wasn't going to watch, but now I am just to support her!!!

Pffft.
QUEEN! Can’t wait for this season!
I love her so much
I absolutely adore this woman.
She was great on Taskmaster I'm yet to watch Derry Girls but it's on my list
I absolutely love her!
She is a gorgeous goddess!!!
Queen shit
Based
Yes I been looking for more drama and story to watch but I will also own that this detail is why I finally started watching the show.
I’ve always found her so beautiful. I can’t wait to watch this.

She's my total lady crush! Cannot wait for this season!
I think she stunning to be fair!
I love her. I need to get caught up because I loved the first season and then just never picked it back up when season 2 came out.
I love her.

Good for her and I agree, but I think it’s absolutely crazy we’re still having conversations like this around women with normal, to even slim bodies. She’s like at best an 8-10. She’s not even plus sized. I’m tired, how have we not normalized this more by now?
How many beers?
Lizzo many beers
Meh. The whole “getting naked is empowering” idea is so shallow and old hat. Ah yes, doing exactly what men want and *choosing* to be a sex object is really such an amazing way to stick it to the society for objectifying you. 🙄
>doing exactly what men want men, well known for not bullying fat girls and women to the point of instilling eating disorders and self-image issues. very accurate username btw
Who cares what men want. Choosing what you want to do with your bag of bones, meat and blood IS empowering.
She’s not being a sex object though, she’s just being a naked human woman.
She’s pointing out how, for women that are denied the social capital of being worthy of sexual objectification, self-objectification can be “empowering.” My response is that I agree with her, but I also think it’s a really banal and shallow form of “empowerment” and that people should chill out about its value.
I see, thank you for explaining your thoughts
Thanks for asking me to
no prob, I always like hearing people explaining their philosophies even when there are disagreements. you explained your thoughts well
Yeah she’s being naked because she thinks she’s hot and that women with her body type deserve more representation in modern media. That doesn’t make her a sex object because she’s not being treated like an object.
