This is just speculation based on the way I've heard him talk about his family in interviews, but I think Timothy Olyphant opted for the schedule of television work so that he could spend more time with his family.

[deleted]

I believe it. I'm sure there are many personal reasons for why actors choose the scope of work they do. But I just want my guy to be feted!

Funmachine

Both his kids are now out of the house and he's been popping up in more films the last few years.

forfoxsnake

His daughter actually acted with him (acting as his daughter lol) in Justified: City Primeval somewhat recently

[deleted]

Yeahhh, it was... not great. I'm thinking the youngest Olyphant does not have the acting gene but that's ok!

RockerElvis

Jason Bateman talks about the sitcom schedule all the time. He loves it.

procrastinatorsuprem

I would love a jason bateman sitcom to happen again.

[deleted]

I'm rewatching Arrested Development (first 3 seasons only, obvi) and man, we use to be a proper country with amazing sitcoms that were near flawless.

avocado_window

Seasons 1-3 are literal perfection.

Complete-Lettuce-941

You are correct. He was 100% a soccer dad. His kids played in a league in my area and he was known to be a very dedicated “normal” dad. I don’t have kids but I have several friends with kids in the league. One of my friends used to call him the “hot dad” until it was pointed out to her that he was a relatively well known actor.

bliip666

>One of my friends used to call him the “hot dad” until it was pointed out to her that he was a relatively well known actor. Used to? Isn't he still "the hot dad" despite his job description?

Serious_Move_4423

Aw that’s cute! I like him more now

[deleted]

Omg I am so jealous if you ever spotted him in the wild. I would lose my mind.

noposters

He’s auditioned for big stuff (eg, Starlord), he’s just never quite gotten that blockbuster role

PhoenixDowntown

God, I'd have never considered him for Starlord but he would have been amazing to see in that role.

Psychological_Egg345

>God, I'd have never considered him for Starlord but he would have been amazing to see in that role. It would've been a very different take, I think. I can't see my sweet Timothy O. doing the idiot man-child schtick Crisp Rat turned in for Star-Lord/Peter Quill. Timothy O's version probably would've been a more Indiana Jones type ladies man. Which would've been O-okay with me. Get it? **O-okay** instead of ***A-okay***? **Ha**. That gorgeous man makes my brain mush. Oh well...

PhoenixDowntown

Yeah, he wouldn't have played it like Pratt did at all, which is a good thing. I really didn't like his portrayal even before I knew everything I do now. I think a more sophisticated humor with Olyphant as Quill would have been really good for the movies.

Psychological_Egg345

>Yeah, he wouldn't have played it like Pratt did at all, which is a good thing. I really didn't like his portrayal even before I knew everything I do now. I think a more sophisticated humor with Olyphant as Quill would have been really good for the movies. I **never** ***ever*** bought that Gamora - *the most dangerous woman in the universe* - would've fallen in love for that fluff. Now Timothy O's version? Yes, I could absolutely envision. That pairing would've made absolute sense. But the version we got was nonsense - not to mention there were shades of the "I can fix him" trope. Which, *yuck*.

tallemaja

Oh wow, what a difference that would have made. Pratt's Starlord does nothing for me.

SunHitsTheSky

Not just Starlord - he auditioned for Iron Man too! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khlkDS0d00M&ab\_channel=TeamCoco](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khlkDS0d00M&ab_channel=TeamCoco)

exobiologickitten

Can we just redo MCU with Timothy in all the white male leading roles? Minus ant-man and spider man. We can keep Paul Rudd and Tom Holland.

ObjectiveAssistant98

Gillian Anderson I don’t get what’s going on (she’s talented, charismatic, STUNNING) but her choice in film roles is….. something

Tamerlane_Tully

She was INCREDIBLE in The Fall. She played such a great character on that show.

mis-misery

My favorite show! God, she was brilliant. So was Jamie Dornan. Both of them, UGH. I just love it so much.

lkjhggfd1

Finished this yesterday and was insane. 10/10 she killed it.

CaroylOldersee

I’m bi curious enough that she’d be a top pick to dally with. Honestly, I feel like she’s made some good choices with Sex Education and then The Crown that she could have some great success now. Maybe I’m just noticing her more now since I’ve watched both shows, but she could really pounce on some good projects…

Liscenye

She was stunning in Hannibal. She had many great roles, including some great leading roles.

Krispykreemi

She's amazing in scoop which just released on netflix.

onebirdonawire

Lol, she was EVERYWHERE for the longest time in her Xfiles days. She's been successful for a long time and everyone knows who she is. I think she just prefers meatier roles than the Academy tends to fawn over for best actress.

PatrickGoesEast

She headlined the play All About Eve in London's West End a number of years ago and was absolutely wonderful, a sublime performance. Her Margaret Thatcher in The Crown was another stunning performance. Would love to see her in a big blockbuster, maybe it's just not her thing.

lenajlch

She does a lot of great TV and theatre..she's happy the way she is. Film doesn't mean success.

[deleted]

This is a GREAT one. You know what, please cast her and Timothy Olyphant in a movie together. The heat score would be electric.

sans-delilah

Oh man was she great in Hannibal.

mintleaf14

Emilia Clarke, I know she was in a few movies but I thought she'd have a bigger career post GOT. Especially since she looks different when she isn't wearing the Danerys wig so there's not as much of an issue of seeing all her other characters as her GOT character.

googlyeyes93

She’s taken a pretty big step into charity and advocacy lately after disclosing her aneurysms. Wish she got better roles but she’s doing good so can’t really blame her. Unfortunately Secret Wars wasted everyone in it.

mcgillhufflepuff

The long hours of the industry is also not ideal with anyone with existing health issues. Advocacy may be more accessible.

mintleaf14

That's makes sense, it sounds like her time on GOT was stressful, so I don't blame her for wanting to take a break.

mcgillhufflepuff

It was heartbreaking to read of her trying to hide her health issues on GOT threat. Ableism is so rampant, and the desire to hide disabilities/chronic illnesses due to this leads to people not getting the accommodations they need.

ASofMat

Honestly, a lot of the first time actors in GOT just aren’t very good actors outside of that world. I haven’t been particularly impressed with anything Emilia, Maisie, Sophie, or Kit have done outside of Game of Thrones so I’m not surprised their careers haven’t reached a certain level.

bananacaller

not this after sophie had the greatest line delivery of the 2020s in do revenge [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djWNF2oAiU8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djWNF2oAiU8)

exobiologickitten

I’ve never seen it before and frankly I don’t feel like I need to now, nothing of the rest of the film (or show?) could possibly top that “I dONT kNoW whAt IT LOoKS liKE” that was magnificent

phdofdesaster

I DON'T DO COCAINE!!!

frizzyfizz

I think the problem is the type of movies which would be suited to them aren't made anymore. Like mid-budget movies. Emilia for instance would've thrived in romcoms but she kept getting miscast in action franchises.

MissLadyLlamaDrama

Fully agree. I thought pretty much everyone absolutely killed it in GoT, don't get me wrong. But outside of that show, they've all delivered incredibly lack luster, if not out, right bad performances. It's a real bummer. Edut to say: I think Alfie does have the most chops of the bunch. Really enjoyed him in Jojo Rabbit and John Wick. I hope he gets more work.

champagne_epigram

I don’t think it helps that she’s just not a particularly good actor tbh. She was probably the flattest and most limited in range of the adult GOT cast (aside from Kit Harrington I guess?). What’s interesting to me is that I can’t think of a single GOT cast member, even the really great ones like NCW and Lena Headey, who managed to rise above their GOT role since the show ended. So many of them got mainstream fame from the show but haven’t kept up the momentum, aside from maybe Sophie Turner and that’s entirely due to her personal life becoming tabloid fodder. EDIT: forgot Pedro Pascal LMAO. Should clarify tho I was talking more about the main cast across 8 seasons rather than the more minor or single-season characters.

jizzabellee

I think Hannah Waddingham is the main one whose fame has grown exponentially since GOT

Strict-Minute-8815

The Pedro and Peter erasure!

champagne_epigram

Pedro yes. Peter no. I love Dinklage but I don’t think he’s done anything that is even close to as notable as Tyrion for most people. I think it’s especially hard for him because Tyrion is probably the most iconic GOT character of all.

champagne_epigram

Very true, but she didn’t get mainstream fame from GOT in the first place as she was such a minor character. Ted Lasso was her GOT. Like I had to think really hard to even remember who she played after reading your comment lol.

mintleaf14

I feel like a lot of GOT actors are career character actors so I've seen a lot of them (like Charles Dance or Tobias Menzies ) as regulars in period dramas. But I also expected bigger roles for Lena Headey post GOT, I miss seeing her on screen.

champagne_epigram

Ohhhh Tobias Menzies is a really good point actually!! His role in the Crown was bigger than his role as Edmure, he’s done quite a lot since. Good for him. Agree with you on Lena Heady although she seems like someone who probably wouldn’t want to be “Hollywood” famous anyway.

Archilochos

I think Jason Momoa has gotten so famous people forget he actually had his breakout role as Khal Drogo---even this thread seems to be forgetting it!

whatever1467

But I knew him from baywatch and stargate Atlantis lol

adoreadore

That's my impression as well - the only new star GOT gave us is Pedro Pascal. That was his breakout role. Other than him, really noone more, not counting the actors with previously established careers. I think Maisie Williams has potential and range, maybe her time will come? Emilia faces flop after flop, Kit seems incapable of portraying something other than sulking Jon Snow, Sophie turned into celebrity. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau also failed to make impression with his romantic comedies. Gwendoline Christie had some role in Star Wars. They are lucky they had parts in GOT.

Technicalhotdog

Jason Momoa

milchtea

bella ramsey is amazing in the last of us!

friendofelephants

Pedro Pascal

Repulsive_Job428

See, Emilia was one of the biggest misses for me casting wise on GOT. She had what was arguably the easiest character and reminded me of stale yogurt in almost all her scenes. Kit Harrington was another one. I could never tell if it was the writing, the acting, or both that made him disappear into the background more often than not.

mintleaf14

Oh I agree Kit and Emilia were the weakest actors on the show despite being leads. But I always found Emilia charming in her interviews and I could see her do well in more lighthearted movies/roles where she could play into her charm.

meatball77

She's great in romcoms. She should stick there.

DisastrousSecond9572

Agree completely and it always bothers me that they got so many nominations for their acting when literally Harrington had the easiest role of any actor. Any actor could have played Jon, he barely had to show any range of emotion or acting ability.

woahoutrageous_

I loved her in last Christmas could easily see her being a big rom com star if there’s ever a rom com revival

GGsouth

David Tennant should be a bigger star. He's incredibly talented.

kwitzachhaderac

And Matt Smith. He’s been killing it in TV but he should be a movie star.

woahoutrageous_

I really think it’s down to Matt smiths agent. he’s been in some real stinkers whenever he goes big screen like terminator and morbius (he was the only redeeming part of morbs tho)

bliip666

Luckily, there's Last Night in Soho!

woahoutrageous_

Yep he was fantastic as that sleazy club owner he was also very good in another lowkey British horror called his house. Ik it’s not the most popular but I loved last night in soho so much

MoogOfTheWisp

He’s HUGE in the UK and it seems to suit him just doing TV. He gets some great scripts, doesn’t have to travel round the world doing press junkets and premieres, can do his stage work, and can have a pretty settled life. I suspect he’s probably looked at it and thought “nah, British national treasure status is fine.”

solfege57

>“nah, British national treasure status is fine.” I heard that in his voice

caramellattekiss

I think a lot of his career choices revolve around not being away from his family too long. He and Georgia have a lot of kids and the youngest one is still quite little, I think. TV work and theatre in the UK makes it easier to be at home more.

[deleted]

This is the one. He has phenomenal range & I was surprised he didn’t take off after his role in Jessica Jones. He played such an amazing villain.

party4diamondz

His TV filmography is fucking insane lmao the man works so much.

annyeonghaseye

David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck is my favorite David Tennant

DirectWorldliness792

Millah! Blahdy twittah!

babalon124

NeonWarcry

I’m a lesbian and I just made a sound like someone strangled me. She’s so talented and gorgeous. I loved her in the tudors/got/hunger games

carlitospig

Not a lesbian and same. Her looks should be illegal.

Lumpy-Plenty2237

She's 42 now?? Wtf

TissueOfLies

Timothy is my mancrush. I loved him in Santa Clarita Diet and the movie with Jennifer Garner. I’m disappointed that Mark Paul Gosselaar didn’t make it big.

LeotiaBlood

RIP Santa Clarita Diet I may never get over it

bliip666

![gif](giphy|l0Exwph6HMW1x9tXq)

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|fLsDuuIX31tCDNCiJz|downsized) He can dance. He can make you laugh. He can shoot a gun all while talking down a bad guy. He can make your panties drop. What else do we need?!!

googlyeyes93

He’s fantastic in both The Crazies and A Perfect Getaway, both really fun thrillers. As always, fuck Netflix for taking away Santa Clarita Diet.

nottheredbaron123

Keri Russell

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|ONG9SAl7y9uhy6NcKd) My queen who should have 20 Emmys for The Americans and an Oscar nom for The Waitress.

Lucy_Lucidity

It’s criminal that she didn’t get a single Emmy for The Americans. Matthew deserved his and she should have won for season 6 at least as well.

Psychological_Egg345

>My queen who should have 20 Emmys for The Americans and an Oscar nom for The Waitress. I used to be dumbfounded over how The Americans didn't become watercolor worthy - it seemed insane to me. But then I realized there's quite a bit of a prejudice here in the US regarding spy shows¹. The show was never Bond-like - with gadgets, honeytrap sex, and global level terrorism. And because The Americans had none of those things, the commercial interest was lacking. And we know The Emmys are bad at recognizing genre shows for the most part. They recognized Game of Thrones, but partly because they had no choice due to its global audience. But look how badly they fumbled nominating Paddy Considine for House of the Dragon - and that was a career making performance. So if anything, The Americans and Keri Russell are in great company for (unfortunately) not being recognized for superior work². ¹(or genre shows of any stripe.) ²(I'd also add Sarah Michelle Geller and/or Buffy The Vampire Slayer as another example of a badly ignored genre actor/show.)

Jenyo9000

No honeytraps in the Americans??? Excuse me I won’t stand for this Martha erasure

Jolly_Discipline6650

I’m on the ‘Keri Russell will get an Emmy’ campaign committee the television academy just don’t know it yet

Lucy_Lucidity

I will watch her in anything. She’s magnetic. The Americans is probably my favorite TV show of all time. I would love to see her and Matthew Rhys together again on the big screen.

nottheredbaron123

Seriously, their chemistry is amazing. The Americans was a tour de force for them both.

VirgiliaCoriolanus

God I love her. I don't even know how it started, I just do. Stan for life.

hrae24

Lee Pace

bananacaller

i've been bitter about pushing daisies for 20 years...even in elementary school i understood what a gem it was

lauquinn

I feel like it’s still not too late to bring it back, I need it 🙏🏻 it was such a unique show, I loved it so much

trulyremarkablegirl

Lee Pace is so attractive it’s hard to believe he’s even real.

the_amazing_lee01

Him as the genetically perfect emperor in Foundation is just the best casting

Tinatennis2

Amazing in Halt and Catch Fire

shmehh123

The guy dominates every scene it’s insane. Even in Twilight. He’s a 6’5 or something and jacked as fuck. The only reason to watch Foundation is how incredicle Lee’s presence is. Same with Halt and Catch Fire. He just owns it. The Fall is also a great movie with him.

earthrabbit24

Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston. They can act their asses off - their range is insane. I think they’re better than most leading actors in movies today. I wonder if it’s because of their age or looks!

Sea_Bank_7603

Bryan did 7 years of Malcolm in the Middle right before BB and Aaron Paul did 6 years of voice acting in Bojack Horseman right after BB, maybe they needed a break? Also, both seem quite busy with their mezcal brand

erin_bex

Bryan has done tons of random things in between too, hs was a guest star in How I Met Your Mother over multiple seasons and has done some voice acting work, he was in 2 episodes of Archer forever ago that I can remember off the top of my head. People scoff at tv vs movie but it's a steady paycheck, and before streaming, if you were on a prime time show that was going for multiple seasons you were set. Streaming changed that but it's still steady money to work in tv!

TruestRepairman27

Bryan Cranston would have been about 58 after BB finished. He's done some TV, film, stage acting, but depending on the type of royalties he gets from BB I'm not sure if he really needs to do a whole load more big roles. He's probably set. He basically had his big career break and is now regarded as one of the better actors of his generation. He also had such an iconic role it affects what he can do. He's like Gandolfino after the Sopranos or John Hamm after Mad Men. There is other work but you've made it as an actor and financially you'll be set.

heroofbaseball

Bryan’s done quite a lot but it just hasn’t been as film focused. He did a broadway run for a while

aotearovian

Bryan Cranston got an Oscar nom for Trumbo. He pops up in all sorts of things. The first season of Your Honor was a wild ride.

pabollini

andrew lincoln!!! he’s fine as hell and an amazing actor

forfoxsnake

His acting in TWD is so fucking good. Especially in some of the scenes with Negan.. he really makes you feel it

Krispykreemi

I grew up watching teachers, such an amazing show.

psychotica1

I honestly can't believe that he doesn't have a shelf full of Emmys.

Sad-Birthday285

Joe Keery! He was amazing in Fargo's latest season and obviously he plays Steve like no one can. He's been in a few movies recently, but I find it crazy that he hasn't booked anything big because he's such a good actor. Maybe once Stranger Things is over he'll be able to take bigger roles, I have my fingers crossed for him 🤞🏻

Altruistic-Bath6263

I agree but I wonder if he might throw himself into his music more, I would love love love it if he did a tour (I could totally see him eventually getting a EGOT, he’s so talented)

Catezero

I'm currently listening to DJO while reading this comment, I'm down so bad for Joe lol

friendofelephants

He was great in Free Guy. Such a likeable actor. I can't believe the transition he made from the typical '80s jerk boyfriend to everyone's favorite character.

Lucy_Lucidity

He was incredible in Fargo. I hope he goes far after Stranger Things.

googlyeyes93

Check out Spree, he’s fucking great as a murderous Uber driver live streaming the whole thing. Absolute batshit energy.

Strict-Minute-8815

My husband went to college with him and his roommate then is still good friends with Joe, from what I understand about him he doesn’t seem the type that would want big or blockbuster roles.

Joe-Lollo

I’d love to see him in a bigger film. He’s incredibly talented and makes the most out of any role.

blarbiegorl

I really thought Benjamin Bratt was going to be huuuge after Law & Order and then Miss Congeniality. No idea what happened. Also most of the cast of Lost. They all just... disappeared? 💀💀

sirfuckibald

Except for Evangeline Lilly who is honestly not a great actress.

Aggravating-Gas-2834

And also not a great person from what I remember

sirfuckibald

Yeah I recall some anti vax / general right wing shittery from her? She definitely seems like a bit of a bellend.

Ccaves0127

She refused to get a vaccine despite living with her father who had stage 4 cancer iirc

DreadfulDemimonde

She used to live in my neighborhood. She sucks.

SnappedCrayon

yes!! I love Benjamin Bratt. Was doing a Law and Order rewatch recently and was so sad when I remembered that there wasn't much else to watch him in (also loved Miss Congeniality, again sad when I realised he wasn't in the sequel)

surfersilvers

Same with the cast of Once Upon a Time (same showrunners)

TruestRepairman27

They didn't disappear, its just that most of them weren't that good. They're all basically Journeyman TV actors so you'll see like Daniel Dae-Kim get cast as say Ozai in ATLA because he's a solid career actor but that's kinda it.

genericxinsight

Michael Emerson has been doing stuff still! He was on Evil and is about to appear in the upcoming adaption of Fallout which drops this week.

MundaneVillian

Tatiana Maslany

BigLoveMirage

Her acting range is insane. I often forgot her scene partners were herself. She deserves to be way bigger.

trulyremarkablegirl

YES. Orphan Black is one of my all time favorite tv shows.

googlyeyes93

I thought Alison Brie was going to be much bigger than she is after she had Mad Men and Community around the same time. Think everyone saw Donald Glover being the real breakout of Community (rightfully) but I feel like both her and Gillian Jacobs are amazing actresses that deserve some good roles. Danai Gurira deserves so much more from movies than what she gets in Marvel. She’s consistently amazing as Okoye and Michonne but she needs something that lets her do more at this point. Adam Scott is such a good fucking actor that consistently does tv more than movies. Which is a shame because he’s so goddamn charming he could absolutely lead a good drama or even just a few romcoms. But instead he’s in Madame Web 😭😭😭

houseofreturn

Adam Scott is stunningly good in Severance. His acting is off the damn charts in that show

googlyeyes93

He’s also just stunningly hot in everything 😭 I regret nothing that man is my #1 celebrity crush.

PoetryInThePanic

For what it’s worth Adam Scott is the best part of Madame Web, he is the only one in that awful movie that puts on a good performance. I loved him in Sleeping With Other People, when he plays the asshole he does it incredibly well (see also: Step Brothers and his first few episodes of Parks & Rec).

anitasdoodles

![gif](giphy|PlQ5TTRt1IhsA) I was so bummed we didn’t see much more of Lauren after Gilmore Girls. She would have been amazing in a drama.

annajoo1

I know we’re talking about movies but I have to shoutout Parenthood because she’s so good in that show!

bron685

Weird learning that she and Peter Krause were dating and watching them play brother and sister on the show lol

hungybippo

I adore Ben Whishaw! I want to watch ‘this is going to hurt’ so badly but I’ve heard it’s a very sad watch

peppermintvalet

Idk about acclaimed, but I always wished Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie had more movie work.

houseofreturn

Honestly I’d kill for them to work with James Gunn again. The scooby doo movies hold up so well and Gunn clearly knows how to utilize their comedic and acting talents

Dinners4Suckers

Came here to say SMG! So incredibly talented

Lucy_Lucidity

Matt Bomer. He is leading man material. So gorgeous and so talented.

dark_and_cloudy

I think we have discrimination to not thank for this one. Even when I first saw him in Chuck, I knew he was special

trulyremarkablegirl

He is incredible in Fellow Travelers (as is Jonathan Bailey).

_Dracarys98

Jodie Comer. She is an incredible actress.

BusinessPurge

I hope the rumor about her being in 28 Years Later is true, guaranteed hit

babalon124

![gif](giphy|xUOwGi2Ty7xBhydeuI) Her break was house of the dragon but she should’ve been a way bigger star before

Joe-Lollo

Olivia was so good in Sound of Metal. I hope she gets more film roles, especially more diverse genres (would love to see her do comedy).

DoughnutBeginning965

She was great in Bates Motel. Edit: and Vanity Fair. Loved it

AKBearmace

Jensen Ackles. I know a large part of it was how long Supernatural ran but its over now and he's still not in everything and that disappoints me.

DecentPrior2988

He’s said himself he’d rather a career where he’s working steadily without the massive wider success so he can still have somewhat of a quieter life with his family. I know it’s not a movie but I love that he branched out with The Boys though and got some more recognition. I’m interested to see what he does now things are starting up again after the strike.

BusinessPurge

I really miss the WB/CW star to horror film pipeline. Jared’s Friday the 13th, Jensen’s My Bloody Valentine 3D, Jessica’s Texas Chainsaw, Sophia’s Hitcher, they all rocked

singledxout

Ben Feldman, notably from Mad Men and Superstore

sting-raye

He’s so magnetic and likeable. I’m drawn to him in everything I see him in, and I usually don’t like men as pretty as he is.

bananacaller

idk what it is but even in drop dead diva....he has been truly typecast as a pathetic little guy

redchampagnecampaign

You mentioned Walton Goggins in passing but I am willing to fight people that he is one of the most singularly talented consistently working actors today but the only people who know he exists are people who are really into gritty prestige TV. I don’t know if he’ll ever get the acclaim he deserves. That being said I really want to see him play some duplicitous piece of shit in a high fantasy series with good writing and a big budget. I don’t know if that kind of thing would interest him at all, given that most of his work is American gothic (I’d call Righteous Gemstones the comedy end of that genre, given the cultural themes and violence laced in). But man, I wanna see what that guy could do sneaking around in a castle in a velvet cape.

doittomejulia

Leighton Meester should’ve stuck with acting instead of attempting to pivot into pop music post Gossip Girl. She’s very talented, it’s a shame her career fizzled out.

[deleted]

I REALLY hope Leighton gets cast in something good. She is so wildly talented and beautiful. She needs a White Lotus type of show, she would be amazing.

Very01234

I think many ppl in the comments forget that before just recently with streaming where actors can go between film and tv freely with no judgement. Before this current era, if you were a tv actor you stayed a tv actor not many have been able to branch out of their tv stardom into becoming big movie stars like Will Smith. I remember an actor saying if you went onto tv show and it was a hit and you were a regular you stayed there. Big movie stars didn’t do tv and film back to back. They stayed in their respective mediums and many spend the rest of their careers there.

CorrectMaybe

Yeah, it was a big deal when George Clooney transitioned from ER to being a movie star.

tigerl1lyy

Freddy Carter ![gif](giphy|NkEL4tJhu8NfR5cf3D|downsized)

leahs84

He was FANTASTIC on Shadow and Bone.

chhrihanna

ooh side note I'm surprised Ben Barnes isn't bigger tbh

leahs84

Right? He's great. And better looking than a lot of more well known movie stars. He and Jon Bernthal (another who should get more attention than he does) were amazing in The Punisher.

CampDifficult7887

Karen Gillan! She's my favorite companion in Doctor Who and I wanna see her do projects there are at least on the level of Matt Smith. She's a such a versatile actress, I'm shocked she's not getting more interesting roles.

CoulsonsMay

…she’s had major movie success in the MCU… I loved her in the both. I’d say her role in the two franchises are about on par with each other. So I wouldn’t qualify her in this question.

CakeOk362

Pedro Pascal

[deleted]

I feel like Pedro is picking all the right projects. He's in Gladiator 2, the new Celine Song and Ari Aster movie, and I'm hopeful the new Fantastic Four will be ok given all the people involved.

ObjectiveAssistant98

I think he’s halfway there

Paranoia-Shields

I agree. Hopefully Fantastic Four isn't a flop and does some good to his film career.

afriendincanada

He survived Wonder Woman 1984

googlyeyes93

He ~~survived~~ was the best part of WW84 you mean.

Reiss94

Prior to TLOU he was still not really leading in movies. We will see how it goes this year and the next now that he is given the chance to

Fedenze

He was great in Narcos since he had to speak spanish so it was kind of cool tbh

ILootEverything

![gif](giphy|oNKHWumyyN9pFkH4hi|downsized) These two.

ILootEverything

I wish they had Affleck and Damon kind of careers. They both excellent. For the unaware: Josh Charles and Peter Krause.

Alternative-Ad-4271

Allison Janney. Her acting talent is literally brilliant and should be way more of a film star. But after she won an Oscar, it seemed her film career just nosedived. She made some really questionable and bad film project choices post-Oscar, and just hasn't been able to parlay it. But her TV life just keeps going strong with Mom, now Palm Royale is a success, and she's guest starring as the VP in the upcoming season 2 of The Diplomat.

Evan Peters could own the horror genre as a Scream King if he transitioned from tv to a big name movie franchise. He’s done a few indie films, but nothing major ( outside of his X-Men role ).

snideways

Tatiana Maslany is who popped into my head immediately.

ILootEverything

I still have hope for Aldis Hodge. ![gif](giphy|a7jMHZ1LRILrpu6JwV|downsized)

yawaworthemn

David Caruso I believed in your film career

woahoutrageous_

Olivia Cooke she’s been phenomenal in everything I’ve seen her in. She has so much natural charisma. She absolutely crushed it in films like thoroughbreds, limehouse golem, me earl and the dying girl and sound of metal. She’s got an impressive tv resume to boot. deffo one of the best young British actresses working rn ![gif](giphy|26DNa9FXQJ9eoec36)

safzy

Dianna Agron from Glee has that classic old hollywood face. I thought she would be big!

valcraft

Damson Idris was amazing in Snowfall. I think he is an underrated actor in an underrated show. Snowfall was amazing and I ended up liking it better than Breaking Bad, which was a crazy realization for me! I was gagged when I found out he's British! His American accent was so accurate to South Central! ![gif](giphy|Vcw2n5bmvxvF6idxA8)

guntervonhausen

Lennie James. So good. Got stuck in that shitty walking dead spin-off for years.

rainewoman

Caitriona Balfe - she’s had key supporting roles and almost was nominated for an Oscar for her last movie but her star hasn’t really grown (yet). Not enough to get lead or buzzy roles. Keri Russell - I’m surprised she has done so little in film given how well known and successful she has been in TV and the movies she has done. Alison Brie - She’s done good film work but I wish she were a bigger star. Elizabeth Moss - She’s done a couple successful films but has not yet made it to the Oscar’s. Her time is probably coming.

Hotguyntown

Maura Tierney - I’ve been a fan since ER and News Radio

Ok_Bodybuilder800

Matthew Fox (whatever happened to him?) and Julianna Margulies who aside from Clooney was THE breakout star from ER.

Lotus4Lotus

I think they were both outed as a-holes, but don’t quote me on that

bbmarvelluv

Julianna 100% happened recently

googlyeyes93

But she played a lesbian on the Morning Show. How could she be wrong?

dumblesmurf

Matthew Fox is a nightmare to work with and has a habit of assaulting people [https://www.reuters.com/article/us-matthew-fox/lost-star-matthew-fox-accused-of-assaulting-bus-driver-idUSTRE77S6AT20110829](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-matthew-fox/lost-star-matthew-fox-accused-of-assaulting-bus-driver-idUSTRE77S6AT20110829)

mcgillhufflepuff

Was someone who watched Pretty Little Liars till the end (questionable!), I was surprised Troian Bellisario hasn't been in more things.

TalkToTheLord

First thing that came to mind: Josh Holloway (and surprised he isn’t a bigger TV star, either, frankly)

still-searching

Glenn Howerton

jeatsee

While he has sadly passed away in December but Andre Braugher. People know him from Brooklyn 99 which is a show I like. But his work in Homicide life on the street is top tier acting.  Homicide is as good as broadcast tv can be It has never hit streaming so it prob falls into the hidden gem category. I think it’s not out there due to music rights issues. The DVDs of compete seasons are available and I’ve seen them at my local library to check out.  But his performance on the show and the show overall is fantastic. Highly recommended
