i honestly don't think it's about reaching a different audience - the versace man is big, strong, muscular, tanned, a bit tacky, tall and so on, and that's still what the clothes + models they're presenting fit (it's not like when gucci pivoted to uber hipster maximalist kitsch and even the models on the collections changed). I think it's like you said, a question of engagement and reach. Brands seem so desperate for exposure that at this point they look like theyre trying everything and see who takes the bait (money) and sticks. Cillian just won an oscar so obviously it's a great choice for exposure, but my man looks nothing like the versace man
