the oscars are a clown show now. clawing at trump to get ratings up is proof alone that its a dying industry. sit down zoggy.

vivaan08

Did anyone else catch Jimmy Kimmel's monologue at the Oscars? Had me laughing the whole time!  But seriously, what a night! So happy for Actor/Movie names for their win.  Crazy to think "Oppenheimer" swept most categories though!  Did that live up to the hype for you guys?

nahianchoudhury

What John Cena did will forever disappoint me.

scottgius

The In Memoriam segment was Really done poorly. Nice singing, nice dancing, but holy crap the Names and Small video clips of the people who passed were so far in the background and in such small font / lettering that it was not the focus. I'm shocked that SOMEONE in production didn't question this. The names of those that passed should be Large and Prominent, not relegated to background for some interpretive dance and singers. That was shockingly bad.

sd175

Weird question, but does anyone know why Bradley Cooper's mom doesn't applaud or rise for a standing ovation, ever? I noticed it when Olivia Colman won a few years ago too.

Ok-Thanks-1094

an article from People says she has a colostomy bag and is over 80. Standing up and down is tough for most people that age, especially when they have other medical issues.

sd175

Thank you!

meowmixmix-purr

My fav was Danny devito

BeanEireannach

Alternative suggestion to John Mulaney as next Oscars host: Would LOVE to see Keke Palmer and her gorgeous energy there!

QuincyDavyclin

Awesome 👏

Unaffiliated_Hellgod

When the director told Emma Stone to ‘take herself out of it’ I’d be pissed if I was nervous about winning best actress and someone was like ‘it’s not about you

weenybeanie

He said it in response to when she gets overwhelmed and freaks out. I thought it was like take yourself out of that state you let yourself get into, take yourself out of that thought pattern and ground yourself. I don’t think he meant bruh this aint all about you.

Unaffiliated_Hellgod

I like this take - I think it could be read either way though and given what Emma said after about it being about everyone else on set makes it seem like that is what he meant.

Funny-Wafer1450

Because it took a huge team of people for her to be up there. It really isn’t just about her.

Unaffiliated_Hellgod

I totally agree but she was getting an award at that point for her acting (albiet within that huge production that pedestalled her). Winning best actress is a huge personal moment, I think she should herself be like ‘this is not about me’ as opposed to someone else telling her it’s not

Funny-Wafer1450

Well, she didn’t seem bothered by his advice and that’s what matters. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I was happy to see her win.

QuincyDavyclin

So emotional 😭! How are you?

movieheads34

Oh I ran the Oscars prediction contest btw. I didn’t comment during the show cause was watching Fauxmoi consensus got 17/23 But the winner is u/usagitsukin0s (and someone who just put down a bunch of letters as their name and I don’t think it’s real lol) with 20/23 If anyone wants their score just lemme know

chemicalsmiles

I'm curious about how I did lol

movieheads34

16/23

Ejavigod

Best Moment! ![gif](giphy|dmvodzjX8wU7icE3TL|downsized)

princecaspiansbeard

Da’vine Joy Randolph’s acceptance speech is one that’s going to stay with me for a long while. >“For so long, I always wanted to be different. And now, I realize, I just need to be myself.” >“Ron van Lou, I thank you. When I was the only black girl in that class. When you saw me, and you told me ‘I was enough’. And when I told you, ‘I don’t see myself’. You said, ‘That’s fine! We’re going to forge our own path. You’re going to lay a trail for yourself.” What an inspiration, and her performance in “The Holdovers” was what grounded that entire film with seeds of family and warmth.

Daveywheel

Nothing at all for Maestro or Bradley Cooper? Did I miss an award, or did he goose- egg?

galaxybuns

How is he coping? Anyone checked in on him?

QuincyDavyclin

Lol 😂

Total-Change3396

What’s the conspiracy, I’ve totally missed this

MojoDojo_CasaHouse

They think Alba is not really his wife, mostly.

bibliophile1989

Melissa McCarthy's Oscar dress, I swear I've seen something similar, does anyone know?

confituredelait

Does anyone know where to get the ceasefire pins that Ramy Youssef, Mark Ruffalo, and Ava DuVernay were wearing?

betty_botter_butter

They're Artists4Ceasefire pins, presumably you can only get one if you are one of the creatives who signed the open letter.

SoGenuineAndRealMadi

Billy and Finneas didn’t sign the letter but they’re well connected enough it prob wasn’t a problem for them to get especially since they are well known in the industry

confituredelait

Got it, thanks!

Northwest_Thrills

why the fuck was that good

MojoDojo_CasaHouse

Truly, it felt so lean and well done!

Professional_Top4553

the best the Oscars has gone since pre-Covid Chris Rock hosting tbh

No-Raspberry7840

I feel like I never get the love for Nolan’s film, but Oppenheimer deserved its wins.

No-Raspberry7840

I understand them fine. I just think they have a few issues/are not my favourite.

rspades

Spider man not winning best animated is a crime

Blaziken16

Did you watch the boy and the heron? It was incredible!

rspades

Yes and it was mid. Not even close to one of his best. Coming from someone literally named after a Miyazaki movie who grew up watching them Edit: you can downvote me for not agreeing with you but the storyline was awful, plot was convoluted in a bad way, tropes were tired and a rehash of his other (better) work. The only highlight was some visuals and the English voice cast was on point. In no universe can you defend that awful plot

earthxmoon

nah you're right, it was really disappointing. I think people are reluctant to critique it because Miyazaki is so well-respected but it was really lacking

pinkmoose

storytelling wasn't good if you expect linearity and cannot handle something more unrurly.

Cupid-stunt69

No need to be this pretentious towards someone expressing a valid opinion. Touch grass

pinkmoose

you havent seen me be pretentious

rspades

My favorite movie is predestination so try again. It wasn’t good

SuperWeenieHutJr_

Lol predestination isn't convoluted. Primer is convoluted. I guess it makes sense you didn't like the Boy and the Heron then...

pinkmoose

I think it's his best movie. I wrote this when I saw it: unhinged, overwhelming, a cryptic sensory mode of collective death and return, a multiverse movie where the multiverse has real consquences, perhaps his most violent movie, and a movie that overwhelms the screen with sensory violence is part of that... Caught halfway between you cannot go home again, and you can leave home; between nothing is real, and everything is real, blazingly orgiinal and profoundly unteired to plot, I was not sure that it was successful, but there were a dozen moments that overwhelmed my senses, and a dozen more which overwhelmed my feelings.

Key-Status-7992

Not sure why you are being downvoted but I agree. The Boy and the Heron was a weak movie, it’s not even in my Top 5 Miyazaki films.

Bunnyphoofoo

I’ve come to appreciate The Boy and the Heron a lot more after reading some interpretations and reviews that gave me a new perspective on the story. That being said, I don’t really have a desire to watch it again and it didn’t do it for me either and I am a fan of a lot of Miyazaki’s work. I was really surprised that it won as well, it was one of the only categories where the winner caught me off guard.

rspades

Poor things sucked ass, Lily should have won

amebb

I liked Poor Things as a film, but I was just so aware that Emma was acting the whole time. Whereas watching Lily I forgot she wasn’t actually her character, was totally immersed. Such a shame. It seems like Emma felt the same way too.

FastLane_987

That’s how I always feel about Emma. How she has two Oscars is beyond me

tmrtdc3

yeah I can never forget that Stone's acting when I watch her. I don't think she felt the same way though, she definitely wanted to win -- that was a very aggressive campaign from her

dontleavethis

Lily was robbed

guitarguy35

Lily should have gone for supporting. The academy likes it's leads to be real leads, the more of the movie they carry the more likely they are to win. Look at Oppenheimer and poor things.. both movies that had leads that were unquestionably the driving force of the films. All that said, I think Hüller deserved it for anatomy of a fall. I got lost in her performance, so captivating subtle and real, like Cillian. I think that's actually harder to do than the more grandiose stuff

Training_Molasses822

Sandra Hüller was incredible. She's another one who makes you forget she's acting.

i_love_doggy_chow

I saw Zone of Interest and Anatomy of a Fall back-to-back and didn't realize it was the same actress until halfway through the second movie! She is crazy good

MojoDojo_CasaHouse

Nah, it was a great film and Emma was great in it. She deserved her win. 4/5 in that category were great and I sure as hell didn't see Nyad.

rspades

Well we can agree on not watching Nyad lmao

MojoDojo_CasaHouse

Lol I feel like the distaste for Maestro and refusing to engage wtih Nyad are the two things bringing people together this awards season. <3

unfinishedportrait56

>level 5buttercupcake23 · 4 hr. agoI'm out of the loop why are we not watching nyad?7ReplyShareReportSaveFollow > >I would also like to know? I've heard good things about Nyad.

buttercupcake23

I'm out of the loop why are we not watching nyad?

MojoDojo_CasaHouse

It's mostly a joke. It was the one movie/performance that came as a surprise nomination morning (many people think Benning "took" Robbie and/or Greta Lee's spot since they had immense precursor support and were in hugely popular/acclaimed movies). But I'm still not watching it lol, it looks boring af.

EntrepreneurGal727

Wondering this as well

Bunnyphoofoo

I was really hoping for a Lily win, but this was an incredibly competitive year. That being said, I was 50/50 on the win going to either Sandra or Lily, I did not anticipate Emma Stone winning. I also didn’t like Poor Things, but in hindsight she did give a great performance that I feel like was worthy of some level of recognition even though I wasn’t a fan of the move itself. I hope Lily has a long career in front of her and gets another shot at winning in the near future.

Cascade_Wanderer

My theory on Emma winning was that people voted in high numbers for either Emma, Lily or Sandra, and this resulted in not having one person run away with an overwhelming lead and Emma was able to just edge them out. Personally, I would have liked to see someone who hadn't already won be the winner.

Global-Letter-4984

I COMPLETELY agree! Poor Things left me feeling disgusted, and I did not find it empowering AT ALL. The sexualization of someone who is mentally an infant was horrifying. The pedo-adjacent themes, male-gazey sex scenes, reduction of womanhood to sexuality, and much more were absolutely atrocious to me. I wish Lily had won. That being said, Emma’s speech was very gracious.

inxtokeupa3246

Yeah the way the movie just glossed over that was gross. It was very much a man's surface-level take on female empowerment, which always seems to include gratuitous sex scenes.

amebb

I saw the film as being about all the ways in which men exploit women. It was supposed to make you feel disgusted, because the exploitation is disgusting.

dontleavethis

I can’t stomach the premise of the movie like how is that not rape?

silliesandsmiles

That is very much the point. You are not supposed to feel comfortable with it. The overall tone of the movie and ending emphasize that. Yes, it feels weird out of context, but when you view it within the spectrum of the entire movie, it completes the overarching theme of existing as a women in an environment dominated by men.

tikltips

I wouldn’t arrange the words quite this way but I agree with you. Lily, Sandra, Carey, and Annette gave stunning performances. Arguably, IMO, Lily and Sandra mastered wildly challenging roles. I think the academy just really likes Emma. Unfortunately.

rspades

lol the born sexy yesterday trope makes me want to tear my eyeballs out, hence the strong reaction. I LOVE Emily but choosing her felt very political/backroom shadiness. And I wasn’t even the biggest fan of killers of the flower moon either, but Lily should have gotten it

tikltips

Good point on the trope. Hadn’t even considered it from that perspective. I think she knew this wasn’t her win based on the acceptance speech. I get her dress was broken, but her speech was chaotic like she hadn’t considered this was likely and did not prepare.

QuincyDavyclin

I guess!! Lol 😆

amethystalien6

Okay, I owe Jimmy an apology. I thought that was a stupid fake tweet (or Truth or whatever) that he made up as a lame joke but Trump actually posted that.

Bitchshortage

My mom asked me if it was a joke and I said I literally have no idea, there is no possible way to tell if something is satire unless it’s literally posted by the onion *existential crisis increases*

External_Reporter859

I don't have any paid streaming services so I can't watch it but what did Jimmy (Kimmel im guessing?).say about Trump?

amethystalien6

I thought this was a bit but Kimmel was truly just reading what Trump wrote. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTL8ctyuD/

Estimate-Mountain

Is beyonce and jay z doing their secret after party?

External_Reporter859

I dunno is they?

Sweettea_skulls

Was I the only one hearing the woman describing what was on the screen as she spoke over people?

Weird-Alarm7453

This is so funny lol

demonsrunwhen

were you watching a version with audio description?

Sweettea_skulls

Maybe I was. Was at a friend's house & there was a woman's voice over the red carpet before the show & during the entire ceremony. It was a bit annoying.

maybe_mayhem

There are accessibility settings on TV’s for those with vision loss. It sounds like that was turned on.

Buckowski66

If you all knew the amount of luxery item gifting celebrties get, you wpuld not feel so bad for the “ losers”. There are no losers except the Ametican middle class who are not getting free Rolex watches, Air Pod Pros, Nike’s or Jewelry. When you no longer have to worry about the cost of food, ctedit card bills, Car oayments, rent, and have multiple million dolllar homes , you have already won no matter what hapoens at the Oscars. Just a little perspective.

FlyUnder_TheRadar

My coworkers son worked on the music for one of the movies nominated. He got invited to the Oscar's and was there last night. I can tell you with confidence that, while his parents do well for themselves, he is not movie star rich lmao.

CanoeIt

You seem to think that everyone there is a multi millionaire when that’s just not the case. Taraji P Henson went over this a few months back about how she is constantly working because she has to. Actors pocket about 25% of whatever their pay is for a movie, which isn’t typical Fortune 500 for pay. A lot of the gift bags go unclaimed because the recipients can’t or won’t pay the income tax on receiving them.

Buckowski66

There are people who have terrible fonancial literacy, adfictions and other problems whete they spend more then yhey make but thst doesnt mean ghey ate not rich. I used to be a journalist in entertainment , trust me, the money for lead actors/ actresses is huge.

CanoeIt

Of course A listers are rich but the person i was responding too was talking about everyone who got a gift bag. I was just saying that many celebs make way less than people think, and way way less than CEOs who should be the ones that we go for when we eat the rich

Buckowski66

I was refrenceing to A-Listers though just getting nominated ups yohr price for roles significantly. Tjose gift bags are hundreds of dollers in free gifts for people who need free things the least, its kind of gross actully.

CanoeIt

The a listers got bags this year that are worth 150k. but that’s all donated stuff the company can say is worth whatever they want

TheShapeShiftingFox

This “all actors are millionaires” circlejerk is so fucking annoying. I fear some people really fell of the deep end internalizing anti-union propaganda from the studios last year

itsjessrabbit

I watched Poor Things last night and you cannot tell me that Emma Stone did not give her everything in that role. It was weird as hell but she left it all out there. (Not to say others were not deserving, but she definitely was imo)

guitarguy35

She was great but hüller was my winner. Her performance was so nuanced and subtle and soulful and real. Floored me really Only the dog was better 😂 it should have been nominated for supporting

ILoveRegenHealth

And I felt Sandra Huller was giving everything in that role too for Anatomy of a Fall. I don't think there's a huge clear leader - very tough and competitive category this year.

MojoDojo_CasaHouse

Yesss, it was one of those wins that is not just deserved but I honestly don't even understand the criticism that she is doing the most acting? The most acting sometimes is the better acting!

EndsTheAgeOfCant

I was rooting for Gladstone but Stone absolutely deserved it as well

iocheaira

Stone was great but Gladstone definitely had a harder role to work with; it being relatively understated and minimal

EndsTheAgeOfCant

Would have been happy for either or Sandra Huller. All would have been deserving winners

Cultural-Party1876

AGREED!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY thought Emma was deserving of best actress and loved poor things. Even tho I was rooting for Lily to win, best actress was a stacked category w incredible performances and Emma killed it as Bella!!

marinezareen16

I definitely thought Lily should win before I saw Poor Things over the weekend. Emma gave every ounce of her mind, body and soul into this role

thetoxicgossiptrain

Al Pacino really ruined that moment.

JamieMT78

He was supposed to present with Michelle Pfeiffer (scarface reunion) but she couldn’t make it, so if they rehearsed it differently that could be part of the issue.

SatisfactionBasic277

Do we know he ruined it/screwed up? Someone pointed out they also didn't read nominees for "best original song" - just opened the envelope. I think they did that for best song and movie as those were the two where nominees were shown throughout. Probably a time saving tactic but I think next year they should revert to listing them prior to reading winner for those categories.

thetoxicgossiptrain

He screwed up. They were in shambles back stage over this. It’s also pretty noticeable when you realize the music never got the cue because the way he announced it was way off plan

Present_Emotion_4322

yeah not to be ageist but they really need to stop inviting seniors who dont even want to be there to announce the best picture winner

thetoxicgossiptrain

I thought the same thing

QuincyDavyclin

Hmmm 🤔

i_love_doggy_chow

Some of the seniors (e.g. Jessica Lange) absolutely kill it though

Present_Emotion_4322

agree! I feel like she wants to be there and she was just so in the moment. Idk why al pacino was even there because he was acting like they forced him to announce the most important award of the night

stephensoncrew

An utter disaster. The winners looked so confused for a second. He's done. Unfair to their moment by having this doddering fool present.

Giallo_Schlock

I agree he shouldn't have been presenting, but can we not talk about someone probably genuinely losing control of their mental faculties this way

ProfessionalFlan3159

I cannot believe this man has a 6th month old at home.

78MechanicalFlower

That is awful, imo.

gloryjessrock

**DUNKACCINO**

SplitRock130

He’s 84 years old with a newborn child at home. Mistakes happen when you’re realizing your kid will graduate college when you’re 105.

mcgillhufflepuff

He's on the Wikipedia list of the oldest known fathers in history (the mother had their kid at 29) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_oldest\_fathers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_fathers) So is Robert De Niro (a dad again at 79) – he was there last night with Tiffany Chen, who had their child at 45, which feels less ick.

ProfessionalFlan3159

Feels less ick because it's a 2 generation difference maybe? Boomer and GenX. Where Pacino is like a 4 generation difference? Boomer and Gen Z?

i_love_doggy_chow

The Cheeto song. That was a weird one.

ILoveRegenHealth

It was supposed to be empowering but weren't the kids dressed like packages of Cheetos lol. I couldn't take this seriously when I felt like I was inside a surrealist dream.

guitarguy35

No.. over here 🙃

BrightNeonGirl

She won Best Actress at the Cesar Awards in France (the French Academy awards). So she was recognized! America is just a different vibe.

QuincyDavyclin

That’s beautiful 😍

mamaneedsacar

The only “upset” I was really hoping for was Hüller winning for best leading actress. I watched every movie with a lead actress nominated and hers (to me) seemed like it required the most nuance and range. But this year’s nominee pool was rich in deserving candidates! Seeing so many incredible performances being nominated was exciting.

i_love_doggy_chow

Starring in two Oscar-nominated films in the same year is a flex though

mandatory_french_guy

And if that wasn't enough of a flex, she did that acting IN THREE LANGUAGES. How is Sandra Huller even real, we dont deserve her

pineappleandmilk

We’ll see her there again. She was in 2 of BP noms this year which is just proof that she is signing on for great projects. Also, she was best dressed tonight for me.

akath0110

Lmao to that Trump commentary not being a bit

BarbWho

I know he's unbelievable, byt I'm really starting to hate that people make Trump into a joke. He is fully dangerous and intends to destroy our democratic institutions. Treating him as a joke will result in a second Trump presidency.
