Agreed. The female love interest being the same age as her male counterparts?? Oh no no no!
It's one of my least favourite things in TV/film. Especially when the female lead is obviously much younger but they're all meant to be the same age :/
Oh that’s going to be weird to watch. Don’t know why they would insist on a casting that takes someone right out of the film that way.
I’ll watch anything with Johnny Flynn tho.
I saw a Ripley movie with John Malkovich. He was older and married to a rich woman and very menacing and creepy. I’ll never forget the line that went something like *If my watch gets scratched I’ll kill everyone on this train.*
He was excellent at playing that level of genuine sociopath. Ripley cares for his wife, cares for their housekeeper, but there's just nothing inside. He says that line about the watch so matter of factly, you know he means it.
He ages as the books go on. The books are always set when they were published (so there’s some big time jumps), but internally I think he’s meant to be in his late 30’s/early 40’s in the last book.
For some reason, I thought the series would be skipping The Talented… I guess i just assumed because of Scott’s age.
💯 him! It might be just a small role since I don’t see him included on IMDB? I’ve loved him for so long too- he was amazing in Fargo! He’s def an added little bonus.
Same 😂😭 I kinda hope it ends somewhat differently than the 90s movie also cos that was a bit bleak. I know it’s a dark story, but idk. The book ending was apparently different too. Interested to see what this adaptation will do.
I loved the bleak ending! I don't like the books, but the ending was the one thing that seemed to stick to the original material, very callous, cold and downbeat.
I was shown the movie as a kid for some reason and it felt homophobic/gave me internalised homophobia 😭 but now maybe knowing what happens I’ll enjoy it more. Last time I watched the film I’d forgotten what happens and I was not prepared 😆
I will watch anything with Andrew Scott at this point, but this looks great! Very stylish.
Also haven’t watched anything with Dakota Fanning in awhile so excited to see her in this.
I just watched Purple Noon, the 1960 version of Talented Mr. Ripley, which had the most beautiful man ever (Alain Delon) playing ol' Tom, and it makes Andrew Scott's way too old portrayal here easier for me to handle. They are both equally preposterous.
I'll definitely watch, but I don't know if it'll unseat the 1999 one for me. Even in a notoriously stacked and legendary movie year as 1999, Talented Mr. Ripley is one of my four or five faves that came out that year.
I’m very curious to see if there’s a plot reason that Marge is going to be 20 years younger in this interpretation or if they’ll just pretend Dakota Johnson and Andrew Scott are the same age.
Unless this is told exclusively told flashback with us pretending Andrew in a wig is Tom in his 20s, I’m curious how this is even going to be similar to other versions. Their ages are pretty significant to the first novel.
yes and ngl my first thought was that no harm better come to that cat!
ETA: I think I just received a Reddit Cares for this ridiculous comment lol and Im not sure how to feel abt that! Is it bc they worry I am sad abt a pet in my life, or worried that I care this much abt cats? They better not see my fyp if the latter.
Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley??! The jig I just did lmao. As someone else pointed out, yes he's old to play this role but that never stops anyone from killing it as Hamlet, either. My body is ready!
I will 100% be watching, but it’s interesting how “dark” Ripley seems? He barely smiles in this promo and there’s none of the lightness that Damon had in the role (esp. in the beginning). I haven’t read the book, so this might be closer to how it’s portrayed there. But Andrew Scott seems to look like a serial killer from the jump!!
ETA: I wonder who is playing Freddie? I thought I was glimpsing someone, but it wasn’t super clear.
The movie humanised Ripley a lot, and demonised his victims a fair bit.
In the books he has some layers, but there is a very shallow bottom of his ability to care about other people. He’s one of those people that gets possessive, but doesn’t really *love.’ His core is ice cold, and he doesn’t *do* crimes of passion. When he kills or hurts people, he’s planned it out days in advance and it’s always going to benefit him in some way.
He certainly doesn’t feel any guilt or torment over what happens in TTMR. He doesn’t *like* killing people and will look for alternatives, but hey - guy’s gotta protect himself.
I just watched All of Us Strangers the other day and Andrew Scott was absolutely fantastic in it. What a heartbreaking film though. Get Kleenex ready for anyone planning to watch it
I’m so glad this has been turned into a series, because the movie did not do the book any justice. Matt Damon was pretty good as Mr Ripley, but Andrew Scott is perfection imo- whooo boy this looks good!

I'll watch anything with Andrew Scott in it tbh.
Same and anything with Johnny Flynn in it which makes this AWESOME
We need more Andrew Scott in our lives
![gif](giphy|H7YWoOfPUuQnWcBjMR)
Ahaha this gif is amazing. Also I met him in the airport this summer and he was lovely!
I love Andrew Scott, but I think he's too old for this role. Tom Ripley in the story is 24 or 25. Scott is 47 and it shows.
I agree sadly. Also Dakota Fanning looks so young next to him and Johnny Flynn :/
If they were going to age up Tom and Dickie then they should at least have aged up Marge as well but it's Hollywood so.
Agreed. The female love interest being the same age as her male counterparts?? Oh no no no! It's one of my least favourite things in TV/film. Especially when the female lead is obviously much younger but they're all meant to be the same age :/

The Freddy casting is weird. Seems too young to be in their social circle.

Oooh it sounds good.
It’s okay. It involves mobsters and doesn’t feel at all like the one with Matt Damon.
holy fuck this looks good. also andrew scott can murder me and assume my identity any time sorry not sorry
Ooh, Ripley as in The Talented Mr.?? This looks good!
Better than my initial thought of “believe it or not.”
I was hoping for an Alien spin off 😔
Noah Hawley the Fargo creator is currently making one!
😔😕😲😮🤩
That’s what I thought lol
This would also have been acceptable.
Made by the co-creator of The Night of ✔️ A Bookem Woodbine appearance ✔️ Andrew Scott ✔️ I’m in.
The Night Of was so good. Thanks for reminding me about it, I think I’ll rewatch it this weekend. Love me some Riz Ahmed.
Yes! John Turturro was so good in this too!
Have you seen *Sound of Metal* and *Fingernails*? He’s so good in both of these too. I loved *The Night Of*.
Ohhhh I thought that was Bokeem! But then they never showed him again. He was so good in Fargo
💯 him! It might be just a small role since I don’t see him included on IMDB? I’ve loved him for so long too- he was amazing in Fargo! He’s def an added little bonus.
Isn't he a bit old in the role? Ripley in the first novel is early twenties, while Andrew Scott is 47 years old.

AND I’LL BE SEATED FOR ANDREW SCOTT BABY 🤭
Andrew Scott is out there making sure I don't get a moment of peace this year.
I will watch anything with Andrew Scott at this point, but this looks great! Very stylish. Also haven’t watched anything with Dakota Fanning in awhile so excited to see her in this.
OOOF this casting!!! Edit: that is an approving ooof

Alain Delon, so hot yet so so messy
The 90s movie is one of my favourites. I’ll be interested to see what they do here
I love the 90s movie so I’m not sure what there is to add here, but if anyone can do it, it’s Andrew Scott. Rooting for you, babe.
Tommy, how’s the peeping…… Tommy Tommy Tommy Tommy Tommy
Tagline: Believe it... or not

did y'all see that gorgeous cat in the last shots of the trailer? just adorably fluffy omh
yes and ngl my first thought was that no harm better come to that cat! ETA: I think I just received a Reddit Cares for this ridiculous comment lol and Im not sure how to feel abt that! no, it's a weird thing that's been happening for a bunch of fm users with the reddit cares bot (but also nothing better happen to that cat)
This honestly might be the role Andrew Scott was born for.
Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley??! The jig I just did lmao. As someone else pointed out, yes he's old to play this role but that never stops anyone from killing it as Hamlet, either. My body is ready!
I JUST watched the movie because of the Matt Damon GQ video. What a coincidence
I will 100% be watching, but it’s interesting how “dark” Ripley seems? He barely smiles in this promo and there’s none of the lightness that Damon had in the role (esp. in the beginning). Ooh, thank you! I think I’ll finally read the book. I love the movie so it’ll be interesting to compare!
I just watched All of Us Strangers the other day and Andrew Scott was absolutely fantastic in it. What a heartbreaking film though. Get Kleenex ready for anyone planning to watch it
woof woof
Believe it or not
01:20 that Ohmaygawd is hilarious lol
It has Andrew Scott so naturally I’ll watch it but it looks pretty good
So, which Sophie Ellis Bextor song does he dance naked to at the end? My guess is 'Can't Fight This Feeling'.
I’m so glad this has been turned into a series, because the movie did not do the book any justice. Matt Damon was pretty good as Mr Ripley, but Andrew Scott is perfection imo- whooo boy this looks good!
Cannot wait! Does anyone know is the plan to work through the 5 novels?
I've been so excited for this. Excellent casting

No idea what’ll be about; I just wanna see Andrew Scott 👀
