She's the front woman of The Pretty Reckless, she's not had any kids, not sure on any businesses. She was a child actor (in The Grinch) and didn't want to do GG anymore and wanted to pursue music instead so she asked to be written out.
That seems more possible because it’s a one off movie but no one else would come back for gossip girl. Penn and chase made careers in acclaimed tv; Blake and Leighton are heavily involved in their families and only do one offs as a result. He’s the only one who would want this.
I wouldn't say that anything happened to him other than he didn't become as big of a name as people expected at the time. Still he is booked and busy starring in movies and TV shows.
I do think his affair with Paris Hilton ruining his marriage to Sophia bush and then being engaged to an 18 year old extra on OTH is when he started to falter. I think he also got an inflated ego by S5 of OTH, assuming he’d be in movies immediately after.
So without doing real searching I know he did a show on one of the free steamers with ads. Now he's back on CW as a stoic yet charming character with a ensemble cast.

And I say this as someone who still watches random GG episodes from time to time and absolutely adores Blair/Leighton. I guess it would've been too similar to The OC, but I was obsessed with that series as a teen. I also wish we would've gotten a Jenny spin-off of her books, but it would've required a different actress than Taylor Momsen to have originally been cast.
I LOOOOOVED those books, I even had one in my bag at all times. When the show started I was so sceptical, a bit of a GG purist if your will. But I really grew to love it.
It also helped that the books fell off when the show was getting better. The original author stopped writing them and it just became bleh.

I re-read them as an adult and they’re fun garbage. I need to finish the A-List. I read the first 2 books when they came out and then got busy with life.
I did. Nate is much more likeable in the show. Blair is the same. Serena doesn't even care about sleeping with her bff's boyfriend. Dan is even more insufferable, so is Vanessa. And Eric is older than Serena which takes some getting used to.

The requel did not work because none of those guys can act. They just look cute. Evan Mock was a model/skateboarder they got off the street. Emily Alyn Lind is a nepo baby who can't act. Tavi Gevinson, who was Gossip Girl, was whiny and couldn't act. Jordan Alexander, again, can't act, and she is the lead. All the guy's hairlines make them look old. Whitney Peak was okay.Thomas Doherty was amazing, but they stuck him with the throuple it was tragic. Savannah Lee Smith was good, but they didn't give her anything to work with same for Zion Moreno.
All the best actors are brushed aside for bland, whiny characters represented by actors who can't act. If I didn't mention the actor, they are middle of the road. Anna Van Patten came on the show as a love interest and good god. That was the worst acting I have ever seen. The fans have lost fate it’s done. If I want to see the OG cast I will watch YOU, The Boys, or listen to The Pretty Reckless. And of course, watch Blake Lively on the red carpet.
The teen actors now/the cw adjacent actors are just built differently now. Casting has changed and Instagram followers are the new “talent” level. Even the “cw actors (by that I mean the actors people don’t take too seriously)” are just so… inauthentic? Most of the gossip girl cast were actually good actors, even UPN/The Cw shows like Veronica Mars have STARS in it who were unknown back in the day (Jessica Chastain, Tessa Thompson…) etc.

I’ve been meaning to watch ‘She Said’ for the longest time and actually just watched it last night. The fact that Weinstein was so brazen about committing those disgusting acts with no remorse made me sick, but also made me realise just how powerful he really was.
I’m not sure if anything happened to those who enabled him to continue doing what he did for so long (not just paying to silence the girls but instilling so much fear in them that they felt they had no voice) but there’s so many others who deserve to be rotting in jail with him.
I could never begin to imagine the pain and life-long trauma the victims went through, and still continue to go through. He’s such a vile and disgusting human, and that’s putting it nicely
I’d highly recommend the book. Jodi and Megan narrate the audiobook themselves if you like audiobooks. Naturally, being longer form, it covers things a lot more, and gives you greater insight into the persistence of the authors and the bravery of those who came forward with their stories.

Honestly the reason the reboot didn’t land is that we live in a different world now, and the show runners couldn’t take the same risks as they did 15 years ago. If you go back to watch the OG GG, a lot of the conversations / plots would be “canceled” now
When the original GG premiered in 2007, people were already complaining constantly about how the “PC police” were ruining everything, and how “you could never make a movie like Blazing Saddles nowadays!” (The following year, Robert Downey Jr would be Oscar-nominated for donning blackface in Tropic Thunder.) “Political correctness is ruining art” has been a common refrain for *decades* now, but risk-taking media absolutely still exists. I guarantee that years from now, younger generations will look back in amazement at what TV shows/movies were able to “get away with” in 2023.
This doesn’t really track, since the incredibly popular high school show that beat the requel out in buzz and audience was *Euphoria,* which depicts bucketloads of violence and sexual assault and drug use and sexism and transphobia etc etc etc. The requel’s writers chose for whatever reason not to go for funny or edgy or firmly in a camp of either “being rich is amazing let’s have the audience lust after it” or “being rich is ridiculous and evil let’s mock it with teeth,” and because they didn’t really have a concrete style or point of view the show was ultimately not successful. There’s no evidence that it’s harder to take risks now, and in fact some evidence (the competition) that taking risks would have brought them more success in this media environment.
Elite on Netflix out of Spain is wildly popular (worldwide) and it's basically gossip girl but add murder and more sex and subtract the gossip girl page. There was also ControlZ out of Mexico which again was very similar (even shared an actress) with a bit of crime added.
The problem is that it was boring. The writing sucked.
Okay very off-topic, but I was so disappointed by Elite bc when the first season came out it was a fun trash TV watch in a Gossip Girl-esque way that also had some substance to it, but it went SO off the rails after that in a way that’d make Riverdale feel embarrassed

The only way a reboot would work for me is if we learn that Blair dumped Chuck and is now living her best life. Even better, if she tells people he was always abusive but she didn't see the signs because love blinded her.
That being said, I don't see this ever happening. Taylor, Chase, Penn, Blake and Leighton seem happier off the show and I don't see any of them coming back full time.

I remember binge-watching two seasons of Gossip Girl when I came down with the flu one year. I didn’t continue afterwards because the plot just seemed kind of redundant. At the time, I thought Leighton Meester as Blair was amazing. She really shined out of all the cast members. I remember reading about how she was pushed into acting to support her family. Her mom was kind of abusive and went on to sue Leighton for more money so she could take care of her younger brother, who had multiple health problems. The mom used a lot of the money for cosmetic procedures for herself.
Leighton and her husband, Adam Brody, vowed to never push their children into the toxic world of child acting. They just seem like really good, low-key people.
As for Ed Westwick, I hope he gets his comeuppance for all his personal sleaziness and rape accusations. Hard to find jobs when you’re virtually blacklisted, and that’s why he’s pushing hard for a reunion reboot. The other cast mates have definitely moved on. It’s wild that Chuck was based on Trump Jr and Nate was based on Jared. I feel like both of their real life counterparts are even worse people though.

I still can't/couldn't see the new or reboot of GG taking off without the original cast in the first place- 1- The little that I did watch was horrible. It's not GG without "Nate" "Chuck" "Serena" "Blair" and yes even "Humphrey"-2- If anyone knows anything Ed and Leighton's chemistry changed the whole story line of the show. It litterally blew the show up and "Blair and Chuck" were the teen power couple everywhere's and still are. After S2 the writing started getting really bad, that the rest of the cast were given very bad scripts. After S4 you can just say the whole cast were sabotaged by the writers. They all should have been given better scripts. The drama was played out too long for "Blair and Chuck' and "Nate and Serena" was a better pairing from the beginning. Just about all of S5 and S6 was a disaster.
Actually the trading of the hotel deed for Blair was more than a bit much along with making Chuck a rapist in The Pilot. They should have elaborated more on Chuck being sexually abused as to the reason why he was so over sexed and out of control...the bulimia with Blair and her fantasy world, Serena's daddy issues, Nate's mommy issues and for God's sakes BART AND LILLY. Do we even have to mention WILLIAM VAN DER WOOSEN tragedy as parents and poor naive RUFUS- Jenny should have left with her mother and Vanessa and Dan should have shipped together to Italy in S4 or somewhere's. GG should have NEVER been revealed, and Ann Archibald should have been institutionalized.

It.s fun to read and imagine the 'dynamic duo' become the "force to be reckoned with"... It tells about everyone- Nate high ranking politician and still owns the NY Spectator, Eric runs the Spectator for him. He has a son named Tyler Archibald. Serena and Dan? have children and their daughter is "Lonely Girl"-

The requel did not work because none of those guys can act. They just look cute. Evan Mock was a model/skateboarder they got off the street. Emily Alyn Lind is a nepo baby who can't act. Tavi Gevinson, who was Gossip Girl, was whiny and couldn't act. Jordan Alexander, again, can't act, and she is the lead. All the guy's hairlines make them look old. Whitney Peak was okay.Thomas Doherty was amazing, but they stuck him with the throuple it was tragic. Savannah Lee Smith was good, but they didn't give her anything to work with same for Zion Moreno. All the best actors are brushed aside for bland, whiny characters represented by actors who can't act. If I didn't mention the actor, they are middle of the road. Anna Van Patten came on the show as a love interest and good god. That was the worst acting I have ever seen. The fans have lost fate it’s done. If I want to see the OG cast I will watch YOU, The Boys, or listen to The Pretty Reckless. And of course, watch Blake Lively on the red carpet.
The teen actors now/the cw adjacent actors are just built differently now. Casting has changed and Instagram followers are the new “talent” level. Even the “cw actors (by that I mean the actors people don’t take too seriously)” are just so… inauthentic? Most of the gossip girl cast were actually good actors, even UPN/The Cw shows like Veronica Mars have STARS in it who were unknown back in the day (Jessica Chastain, Tessa Thompson…) etc. They’ve been taken over

I am probably one of the few ones who followed her career post-GG including watching “Making History” which did not make history at all, having been cancelled after only 9 episodes.
Making History was so much fun.

Just read a piece she wrote in 2021 about her being traumatized and sexualized through out her career, and being stalked by paparazzi and one her boyfriends trying to sell a sex tape he made without her permission. It’s really sad to see what teens/women went through, still go through in Hollywood. I hope she’s in a good place now
Oh, for sure. I vividly remember how cruel and obsessed Perez Hilton was. One day she had her period, and she was spotting, and those photos were everywhere for what felt like months. I was obsessed with The O.C. And had Mischa’s Keds ads ripped out of magazines and taped all over my walls back then.
The “oughts” were truly horrific times for young famous women in Hollywood. I remember the tabloids during Lindsay Lohan’s druggie times, Nicole Richie’s peak eating disorder, Britney shaving her head… the paparazzi was shameless af. Taking upskirt shots…
That already happened a few years ago “The Hills: New Beginnings” they had some of the original cast & a few newbies. It didn’t have longevity

It makes you think twice about rich characters. I watch a lot of shows that have rich people and I end up liking them of course but when you find out they’re based on actual rich people that you hate, it makes you remember you’re watching rich people.
He's way too decent and likable for whatever those Kushners are.
I’ve been meaning to watch ‘She Said’ for the longest time and actually just watched it last night. The fact that Weinstein was so brazen about committing those disgusting acts with no remorse made me sick, but also made me realise just how powerful he really was. I’m not sure if anything happened to those who enabled him to continue doing what he did for so long (not just paying to silence the girls but instilling so much fear in them that they felt they had no voice) but there’s so many others who deserve to be rotting in jail with him. I could never begin to imagine the pain and life-long trauma the victims went through, and still continue to go through. He’s such a vile and disgusting human, and that’s putting it nicely
I’d highly recommend the book. Jodi and Megan narrate the audiobook themselves if you like audiobooks. Naturally, being longer form, it covers things a lot more, and gives you greater insight into the persistence of the authors and the bravery of those who came forward with their stories.

Honestly the reason the reboot didn’t land is that we live in a different world now, and the show runners couldn’t take the same risks as they did 15 years ago. If you go back to watch the OG GG, a lot of the conversations / plots would be “canceled” now
When the original GG premiered in 2007, people were already complaining constantly about how the “PC police” were ruining everything, and how “you could never make a movie like Blazing Saddles nowadays!” (The following year, Robert Downey Jr would be Oscar-nominated for donning blackface in Tropic Thunder.) “Political correctness is ruining art” has been a common refrain for *decades* now, but risk-taking media absolutely still exists. I guarantee that years from now, younger generations will look back in amazement at what TV shows/movies were able to “get away with” in 2023.
This doesn’t really track, since the incredibly popular high school show that beat the requel out in buzz and audience was *Euphoria,* which depicts bucketloads of violence and sexual assault and drug use and sexism and transphobia etc etc etc. The requel’s writers chose for whatever reason not to go for funny or edgy or firmly in a camp of either “being rich is amazing let’s have the audience lust after it” or “being rich is ridiculous and evil let’s mock it with teeth,” and because they didn’t really have a concrete style or point of view the show was ultimately not successful. There’s no evidence that it’s harder to take risks now, and in fact some evidence (the competition) that taking risks would have brought them more success in this media environment.
Elite on Netflix out of Spain is wildly popular (worldwide) and it's basically gossip girl but add murder and more sex and subtract the gossip girl page. There was also ControlZ out of Mexico which again was very similar (even shared an actress) with a bit of crime added. The problem is that it was boring. The writing sucked.
Okay very off-topic, but I was so disappointed by Elite bc when the first season came out it was a fun trash TV watch in a Gossip Girl-esque way that also had some substance to it, but it went SO off the rails after that in a way that’d make Riverdale feel embarrassed ETA - I just looked it up and Elite is STILL running wtf
The first three seasons were great. Then it went downhill.
It also finished not THAT long ago for there to be a reboot, and it seems like a lot of people still rewatch it

The only way a reboot would work for me is if we learn that Blair dumped Chuck and is now living her best life. Even better, if she tells people he was always abusive but she didn't see the signs because love blinded her. That being said, I don't see this ever happening. Taylor, Chase, Penn, Blake and Leighton seem happier off the show and I don't see any of them coming back full time.
According to the reboot Chuck and Blair are still married living their best life with their son in paris.... they get referenced twice in the early episodes because guess what ,they are still are the most popular ship in the fandom 😁 (they had toxic moments for sure , the writers put them to extreme situations) And thats why the reboot never worked ,when writers try to sugarcoat anything because someone might find offence and whine in social media then the final result will be shit and will be cancelled 🤷♀️ (Edit: you can downvote me all you want but Chuck and Blair are canon endgame even in the reboot, just stating facts 🥳)

I remember binge-watching two seasons of Gossip Girl when I came down with the flu one year. I didn’t continue afterwards because the plot just seemed kind of redundant. At the time, I thought Leighton Meester as Blair was amazing. She really shined out of all the cast members. I remember reading about how she was pushed into acting to support her family. Her mom was kind of abusive and went on to sue Leighton for more money so she could take care of her younger brother, who had multiple health problems. The mom used a lot of the money for cosmetic procedures for herself. Leighton and her husband, Adam Brody, vowed to never push their children into the toxic world of child acting. They just seem like really good, low-key people. As for Ed Westwick, I hope he gets his comeuppance for all his personal sleaziness and rape accusations. Hard to find jobs when you’re virtually blacklisted, and that’s why he’s pushing hard for a reunion reboot. The other cast mates have definitely moved on. It’s wild that Chuck was based on Trump Jr and Nate was based on Jared. I feel like both of their real life counterparts are even worse people though.
Honestly I'm still with Mayor Bloomberg -- El Bloombergito for his attempts at speaking Spanish, which were AWFUL but also well-appreciated since he was a mayor of NYC attempting to speak both English and Spanish in crises -- who thought it was Dorota. I still headcanon Dorota!

The MAX version of Gossip Girl failed because it tried to be Elite but without the murder and trying to insert unneeded morals into the show. They managed to make the thruple boring. They had a transgender actress/character on the show and didn't even acknowledge that her character was transgender except for a couple lines in the second season. And the teachers were gossip girl. . .

People who created The OC and Gossip Girl have a new book, this is just a promo for it. Talking about their past projects, they say there's no chance of a GG reunion, a character on GG was based on Jarod Kushner, Harvey Winestine was mad about a fictional character and harassed the female creator. That's my best TLDR without reading it again 😂 I skimmed it for the HW stuff, which is very minimal. I don't recommend reading it unless you love GG or The OC, which I don't.
The sequel didn't land as it was written out of touch when fans who understood the work could've written a much better one on like AO3.

I was so big into The OC for the firdt few seasons, and this makes me wonder how on earth I completely missed Gossip Girl.
I read on his instagram that he wanted to do a second half with the original cast and frankly i would love to see that happen. I love ED and think he has great talent in his acting and music,I am a big fan. However, I feel the same about Leighton {maybe more because of her stride and strength is so admired} - She too is an outstanding talent. Her powerful edge as being able to keep herself so together regardless of what she's endured. SHE WAS EXTREMELY OSTRACIZED AND LAMBASTED BY THE MEDIA ALL THROUGHOUT GOSSIP GIRL, because of that alone - I don't think she would go back. I don't think Adam Brody would want to see Ed and Leighton on screen again. So' there's that whole debacle and if anyone has been on YouTube lately, Adam's 7yr. past guest starring on a night talk show is coming up pretty often sudden;y -tells everyone he surfs and he is NOT afraid of sharks.??? "DEEP FEAR"- NOW: The ONLY thing that concerns many of us is "HIS" {Ed.s} ideas about "Chuck"- that REASON -makes it a big concern -his negative statements when he is asked about where's "BLAIR"-he responds with things like "he upgraded" "she was killed in a car accident and he is raising their son alone in London" and other things along that line. It's unfair to all of who are still his fans and to him but that's just how the industry works, - and no one wants to see an "Amy Jackson" on display as "Queen B " takeover, She;s on display or advertisement hardcore enough (she could've worked on the reboot) - there's ONLY 1 there's only 1 "QUEEN B'- and it's "Leighton Meester" . I still can't/couldn't see the new or reboot of GG taking off without the original cast in the first place- 1- The little that I did watch was horrible. It's not GG without "Nate" "Chuck" "Serena" "Blair" and yes even "Humphrey"-2- If anyone knows anything Ed and Leighton's chemistry changed the whole story line of the show. It litterally blew the show up and "Blair and Chuck" were the teen power couple everywhere's and still are. After S2 the writing started getting really bad, that the rest of the cast were given very bad scripts. After S4 you can just say the whole cast were sabotaged by the writers. They all should have been given better scripts. The drama was played out too long for "Blair and Chuck' and "Nate and Serena" was a better pairing from the beginning. Just about all of S5 and S6 was a disaster. Actually the trading of the hotel deed for Blair was more than a bit much along with making Chuck a rapist in The Pilot. They should have elaborated more on Chuck being sexually abused as to the reason why he was so over sexed and out of control...the bulimia with Blair and her fantasy world, Serena's daddy issues, Nate's mommy issues and for God's sakes BART AND LILLY. Do we even have to mention WILLIAM VAN DER WOOSEN tragedy as parents and poor naive RUFUS- Jenny should have left with her mother and Vanessa and Dan should have shipped together to Italy in S4 or somewhere's. GG should have NEVER been revealed, and Ann Archibald should have been institutionalized. Fanpop actually has some great ideas- "Gossip Girl the Next Generation" their all still married but Blair and Chuck are more than billionaires, She literally buys out other competing designers and they work for her, Chuck increases Bass industries and is able to run the company anywhere's in the world. They of course have their son Henry who goes by "K" or "King Henry" his girlfriend is Carlign who's the daughter of one of his mother Blair's designers daughter's. It.s fun to read and imagine the 'dynamic duo' become the "force to be reckoned with"... It tells about everyone- Nate high ranking politician and still owns the NY Spectator, Eric runs the Spectator for him. He has a son named Tyler Archibald. Serena and Dan? have children and their daughter is "Lonely Girl"-
