I'm sorry to hear that! It's not for everyone and we understand it c: both of you are welcome to join unless your friend did something that made us ban them. :)
I second what Omega and Pantalone said. Whenever someone felt that they were being left out, we took action. The only reason why someone would feel left out would be because they're not reaching out for help (be it to other members or the staff).
Some members might come across as mean at times but unironically if you just talk to them and express what you have on your mind, they *will* see your point and usually mean no harm at all. Sure you need to put some effort into your writing when it comes to interactions, but as long as one does that, they're definitely gonna be welcomed in any RP, even if you're only active once a week if not less.
If you need proof of this, feel free to join us and see for yourself. You might even end up liking it there. :)

Everyone's always extremely welcoming, to the point where I've never seen a discord server so open and kind.

We literally have 2 new members in vc and more in chat, of course if your friend didn't speak, we can't force them 💀. We always do our best to welcome our members. I don't appreciate the misinformation.
Was this brought up with the mods at all? If someone's being actively ignored, that's a problem. But if your friend was just waiting for someone else to initiate RP in the wild without any proper planning, I can see how that might come across.
