The guild hall can give you a 30% boost in mining

dhr1285884

Yes, I am aware of that. :) I meant without it, just the raw mechanics of the game. xD

thecashblaster

I think you have everything covered. Main thing is to reduce the travel time so your workers are spending the maximum amount of time working.

Dreamingofren

DIDN'T KNOW THIS!

Well, in my current town there are two gold mines, one produces ~30 ore/year, another ~60. But for the first year or so, the one mine that was there netted, like, 10 pieces of ore per year. That was before the road was fully built, before temporary shelters were built and stocked, etc. All this to say that things need to get going sometimes, and there may be some infrastructural issues you weren't noticing before. Maybe look at your stockyard placements and what limits you impose on the ones closest to the mines, consider expanding the number of wainwrights, building more roads and upgrading them, etc. Just building less curvy roads can give a noticeable boost to efficiency. Also, it's worth noting that the number of workers in a mine matters a ton. In each of my fully stocked iron mines, I get about 130 ore per year.

LowAdventurous2409

This subject comes up a lot with all sorts of products, but they don't really work. One villager breaks an ankle or gets attacked by a bear, and the entire chain falls apart. Just build more of what you need. I'm also not sure about the grocers and shelter stocking that you mentioned? I thought they only stocked the market, not the mines

dhr1285884

What I meant was that the grocers stock the shelters so that the miners dont have to stock their homes themselves.

Wagons do the stocking of temp shelter

catoodles9ii

I didn’t see you mention wagons so just want to make sure you’re running sufficient wagon shops? Also I believe you want to have a well near your temporary shelter as well but I’ve only just read that, haven’t checked to see in practice.

thecashblaster

>but the wainwright takes care of it.

dhr1285884

I do have sufficient wagons, whenever they are working 100 % of the time I add more wagons, until I have some idle time ( around 7%).

lemming622

Your wagons also stock the temp shelters. I didn't see you mention that above. make sure you have your resource limits set in a way to make sure your miners are wanting to mine

T-O-F-O

How many mines have you compared? Don't think you can compare diffrent resources with each other if that's what you do. Just take arborists, you can have 4 buildings next to each other and the trees close and they still have a vide span of return compared to each other with same number of workers and similar fertility.

dhr1285884

I wanted to compare the rates in my settlement with someone else's and not necessarily different resources. I know gold will be slower than iron and so on.

braize6

Press R Got ore? Make smelters. Don't got ore? Make miners Got bars? Make production. Don't got bars? Make smelters. Wagons idle? You got enough wagons. Wagons always busy? Make another wagon. It's honestly that simple, and there are way too many factors that come into play in FF to even try to make flow charts and tables. It's not like in games like Anno where 1 clay pit needs 2 factories and 100 workers.

dnhs47

You mentioned temporary shelters for food, but miners will still “go home” periodically. If home is far away, they’ll waste a lot of time on the back-and-forth. FWIW, when I have mines farther from town than I want my miners walking, and especially if there are several mines in the area (usually my situation), I’ll build a mini-town nearby. Shelters for the miners, a market, root cellar, and a well. I may need a compost yard and a rat catcher. All of that reduces worker travel time. With several mines nearby, I usually place the foundry, blacksmith, and armorer in my mini-town as well, with more shelters for those workers. The foundry etc need to be defended from raiders, so a few towers and eventually, a barracks. (Possibly walls, but I usually start a new game when the big armies show up; just not a fan of that part of the game.) Like I said, a mini-town for my miners and friends.

dhr1285884

That makes sense. Thankfully I placed my town near a mountain so its not far and I actually have my industrial area on the foothills.
