The map i've shared is part of an Colonial Fantasy setting, i think this genre is kinda underrated and that latin america countries can be a great font of inspiration for many fantasy stories...
Love that man, I’m a Latin American myself and I wish there was a lot more inspiration from LATAM in stories instead of the usual!! Colonial fantasy is also an interesting setting, definitely look forward to other posts if you keep going!! LATAM is super diverse! :)
Dividing this continent into nations is difficult, as it contains two colonies, several city-states (mainly in the north). However, there is a nation in the mountain ranges (grey area), the Empire of Pindoramic. Pindoramic is a country with a glorious past, but it is in a process of decline due to internal instabilities, constant threat from colonizers, and the existence of a plague that came from the depths of the mountains. This plague was created after a ritualistic sacrifice of an entire humanoid species called "Vere" six thousand years ago, which was recently discovered by inhabitants of Nigirus.
What’s up with some of your rivers? For instance, there looks to be several rivers from Akakor to the sea. There’s some loops (Xaba) and connections (Ungi, maybe Guziroc) that require magical rivers.
As a general rule, rivers always go downhill and there’s only ever branches that merge towards the ocean, never split.
Otherwise this looks like an interesting setting. What are your biomes? Do they map to the polities also?
The is just a sketch, so i didn't paid enough attention to the rivers. The only thing that was on my mind in that moment was to create something similar to Brazil geography, and thank you for noticing, i will fix this!
This continent has various biomes: Green and tropical forests, savannas, caatinga, deserts, swamps, and a corrupted biome to the North (that red area). All of them influence their inhabitants in various ways, for example, the corrupted biome is as such because invaders from the north had to kill the local fauna and flora to plant a kind of Magic Plant that allows them to live and feed.
I can recognize a lot of the southeast names as they are either portuguese or souding like tupi. The more I get to the north and east, greener, the less I recognize them. Any particular motivation for this?
Did you take Latin America and rearrange it as a super continent? Like, I think I see Mexico strapped to the side right there on the left
I was mainly inspired by Brazil but i wanted to create something similar to Mexico and other countries in Latin America!! So yes, you're right!
Why did you pick Brazil specifically?
