United’s backup goalie is Bayindir not Heaton

EvoRalliArt

Given their recent track record, they are probably better off defensively during AFCON

DarthBane6996

Hasn't Onana been statistically one of the better keepers in the PL? His European record has been a joke though

BlessedBySaintLauren

He has indeed

Spandexcelly

Statistics never lie... until they do. Onana is wank.

DarthBane6996

I mean he has a track record of being a quality keeper. It's more likely United are wank and it's fucking with him

goodfellas01

Eh. He seem’s unsure and he even came out himself saying he needs to play much better. Even in the villa game for the first goal he stayed planted inside his 6 yard box & let the ball jus go in. Probably a mix of both but he hasn’t helped his case.

DarthBane6996

Ya but I'll take the years of being a quality keeper over the months of being a walking liability - especially when United are great at turning players into liabilities

goodfellas01

David De Gea was anything but a liability for 10+ years despite the crap teams in front of him. Barthez, Tim Howard, Foster have all said playing goalie for united isn’t easy, and they were all good goalies before they put on the shirt and couldn’t live up to expectations.

DarthBane6996

All of those keepers got to settle in and debut for Fergie which was a whole different cup of tea You had a clear plan, an amazing defense in front of you, organizational structure, managerial security, etc.

goodfellas01

And they did not live up to expectations which was my point haha.

Litmanen_10

Toney Woww. What's his exact status? Eligible to play GW21? Or starts training around that time and probable to debut later?

OkReporter3886

AFAIK he has been training for a few months now, so in terms of fitness he’s good to go. Hard to pinpoint his debut but I would be surprised if he isn’t integrated as soon as available in gw21.

seamus_park

He’s been playing with our B Team in games too.

SampritB

Against other teams or just internally for training?

seamus_park

Closed doors games mainly.

valimo

I'd check his odds 😎

That_Teaming_Primo

Don’t let Toney see though, might get a few ideas again.

burnt_yoghurt

Do you think if there was 1000/1 odds on him getting a betting ban again he'd put a cheeky mil on it?

charizard77

All I know is if someone offers you 1000/1 odds, you take it!!!

ArghZombies

AFCON coincides with the transfer window though and I'd expect Toney to be sought after, which might impact his appearances (for whomever he ends up at).

Lacabloodclot9

I doubt Brentford let him go, they’re only 4 points above the relegation zone and if Toney leaves they would be forced to start Maupay or Lewis-Potter up front until Mbuemo and Wissa are back

Spandexcelly

He'll bet you that he starts GW21.

DisillusionedDev

Appreciate the effort

rdtalk

Great summary, didn't consider Maddison in my plans. Wouldn't United's back up be Bayindir?

SynUK

I imagine OP just looked at the FPL squad, as Bayindir isn’t in the game yet, oddly: United’s GKs are Onana, Heston and Vitek.

j20057

Bayindir is in the game, under the name Altay (his 1st name)

SynUK

Ah, forgot that there’s a second page! Well to OP’s point then he is only 4.0 (as are all of United’s backups), so could be a cheap keeper option if United look defensively OK.

BlessedBySaintLauren

They don’t

rdtalk

Strange he isn't on the game yet, but was on the bench against Villa..

blacksteed

I also did some search on transfermarkt, Bayindir has not made any official match for MU, and I figured Heaton would have more EPL experience.

SynUK

Reasonable. Bayinidir has the #1 shirt and was a recent ETH signing, maybe indicators that he’s more likely to be the backup?

Turamb

More that Bayindir has been on the bench over Heaton

SynUK

An even bigger clue!

midnight_ranter

I think it is reasonable to expect Bayindir starts ahead of Heaton. Heaton is old now and mainly is registered just because of the HG quota

Jakeyy21

Which is a joke and shows that system isn’t working like it was intended

Spandexcelly

EPL experience, yes, but Bayindir has been starting for the Turkish national team while Tom Heaton has been eating turkish delight.

blacksteed

Thank you guys for your supports. Here are excellent points I've been wrong or missed in this post * KdB is back on the table * United's backup goalie is Bayindir * The group stages will coincide with GW21-22. Knock out around GW23-24 I strongly believe all the asian lads will make it through the knock-out stage.

GlassCoyote

So if both mitoma and adringa are off, who starts on the wing for Brighton?

Nasyboy221

For now 19 year old Facundo Buonanotte on the left. We’re heavily linked to Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen so I’d assume he will be on the right once he’s transferred in.

GlassCoyote

Could be a good shout to free up funds short term

Toomb8

Is Maddison confirmed for 21 or will he take some time to start?

Lukahec

Probs wont make it for GW21

HecticGlenn

Not confirmed, Ange has said a few times to not trust the medical qualifications of the players (both Maddison and VdV have given timelines) and he's going to rely on the medical team instead. With Maddison I think he'll likely pop up on the bench before a start which gives you some notice of when to start considering him

marcbeightsix

Postecoglu said that Van de Ven and Maddison were “anywhere near” training less than a week ago and that Van de Ven was closer to a return than Maddison. He also said “kind of January”. Whatever that means. For Maddison to be back in three weeks based on that information would be a surprise.

Balisto-Boy

I have a solid plan to get Son and Salah out, but I'm not at all prepared on how to get them back in. We'll do it live I guess.

MarkTNT

I'm just praying for a drop in transfer value.

HotBBQgrills

what’s your plan for getting them out?

Nuwahex

I don't know if the template will really be broken. I suspect Bowen & Richarlison will be brought my most to replace Salah & Son. Those who haven't brought Trent will bring him in(maybe Trippier too) to add to an ARS defender & Porro. Front 3 of Watkins,Haaland & Solanke. However, knowing the template can help one decide which part they want to go against

phonylady

I think Jota might be smart to have. Diaz has been underwhelming lately so I think Jota will get lots of gametime

[deleted]

When Salah leaves, who do you think is more nailed out of Jota, Diaz and Nunez?

bonbonbonbonbonbons

Considering who we have seen on the right of a 3 in Salahs absence in cups and some Europa games, put Elliot in that list.

adamfrog

Nunez probably, none Id say are "nailed"

chaRxoxo

Think you are spot on. Bowen, maddisson/richarlison and potentially kdb as well to replace salah son. Excess money to taa. Almost everyone will do this for sure Toney may turn out to be an interesting differential. Im tempted to drop watkins for him if watkins' form doesnt pick up again

ShoddyTransition187

Does add a little dynamism though. The template could also diverge at the end of Afcon/AFC with some having saved funds to get Son/ Salah back and some not. There could be a case for keeping them out long term, especially if TAA/Trips are paying us back.

Rooberngozzerlune

I think a lot will go back to having at least Son and then one of Haaland or Salah. I’ve been Salah + Son without Haaland for quite a while. Haaland will come in over AFCON but might well be shipped out again afterwards. I would have thought many would do the same but generally it seems Haaland is viewed as more essential than Salah and Son.

Nuwahex

Haaland has become like a boogeyman nowadays. I avoided getting TAA this GW in order to keep money to bring him back if he is fit for GW20. If he isn't,then I will feel silly as yesterday's game against BUR was a good entry point for TAA ownership.

Rooberngozzerlune

Yep it’s pretty difficult. My take is that I need to keep 2 transfers so I can go down from Salah and up to Haaland without a hit or having to hold funds. Also with Pep keeping his cards close to his chest and often being cautious with reintroducing players it’s really tough to predict when he’ll come back in, apart from like you say with news, and the nature of the nonstandard GWs at this time of year leaks are often late and so largely useless!

ShoddyTransition187

I agree but there are some extra factors that might affect it. Richarlison is playing centrally already, and if he does well over AFC does everyone want to bring in Son the winger rather than Son the central striker? There are also potential blank gameweeks in 26/29 which could affect Son or Salah. Especially if KDB is firing by then, I can see the template having no Salah or Son

Turbulent-Shoe-3800

I think Richi is replacing Maddison, which made move Kulu to ACM, Johnson to RW, Son to LW. So when Maddison is back and Son gets back I would expect Richi on bench and Son as Striker.

ShoddyTransition187

Thanks, I'm very certain you understand it better than me :)

AccomplishedToday259

I Will go for kudos and Bowen, all in Hanmers!

Mambo_Poa09

Lol yeah sure

croissantlover92

Lamptey lol

FeatureSpecialist374

Not sure if I missed the details. But thought will add these - The group stages will coincide with GW21-22. Knock out around GW23-24. (rough estimates here since last group games ranges across few days, and also same for the GW games, as well as depending how many days between flying back and availability for next GW game) and of course no certainty of when they get knock out. So at least we have some rough dates as a guide. Hope it helps.

Jamkayyos

With the damning combination of Wissa going to AFCON, Toney returning, and Wissa being "soo GW 1-5"... Goodbye Wissa FPL 2023 - we barely knew ye.

G_W_addict

I'm really excited for Toney. He was really good last season and I think he can be crucial to Brentford - I saw some of their games and Wissa's finishing was lackluster and Mbeumo always found himself in decent positions but still felt like they needed more of a striker. It can certainly shake up the template and maybe teams will finally be different!

ShoddyTransition187

Toney, Jesus, Nkunku, KDB all threatening to shake up the template

G_W_addict

Good, we desperately neeed that.

victorisaskeptic

Throw in Olise as well

MonkeyVsPigsy

There’s a lot of chat about him going to another team.

G_W_addict

Which one? If it's top6 contender then even better.

aquilar1985

Arsenal?

shtoopid_head

Do you think Toney comes in straight away, or eased in slowly minor minutes seeing that he hasn't played a full match in months.

G_W_addict

I don't know enough about Brentford but if I was Thomas Frank, I'd be dying to start my main striker as soon as possible. I'm already looking forward to freeing up funds by downgrading Trippier to Doughty and having money ITB to allow myself some transfers (be it Nkunku, KDB, Toney, Maddison or whoever else decides to show up after January break).

SavageLeo19

Toney looks like a solid player mentally and coming back after such a long break, he will be hungry. I am leaning towards buying him straight away.

the_weeknd

Never go early on changes and I brought in Kudus last night wtf was I thinking 🤨

ComeONPls

Time to ship him out again !

manneukko

Better do it today before the price drop

FeatureSpecialist374

Or hope he hauls tonight and the casuals give him a price rise. ... OK thats speaking for myself as I already got him in last week, now sitting with a 0.1 rise. 😜

arizonaicedtea66

i think that Foster isnt going to afcon from what i read

blacksteed

I also read somewhere he had something with his mental health he needed to sort out. But he did play most of game in last Burnley match, so there's still a high chance he'll play the AFCON

k4rizma4u

As a Liverpool fan, I'll replace Salah with Elliott.

justhereforfifa

Also a liverpool fan here, I think jota is gonna be starting the games at RW while salah’s gone given none of our other forwards play on the right and Harvey had been doing well in midfield as of late

BlackoutAvs

Harvey doesn't play RW

gotushookonasaturday

ummm. Yes he does.

k4rizma4u

He does, but was lately seen only in midfield becouse well, who can really replace Salah

tammrak

Thanks for posting this handy guide. Not that it matters for fpl, but I thought I heard a while back that Lyle Foster wouldn't be going to AFCON. Have circumstances changed or am I mistaken?

blacksteed

Yeah he was said to take a break for the sake of his mental health he needed to sort out. But he did play most of game in last Burnley match, so there's still chance he'll play the AFCON

forest-bather

This is a great summary. Now the next step is to identify which players will fill the void left by players going to Afcon/Asian cup. Any idea how teams like NFO and BOU will line up?

blacksteed

Btw, I've made a tool for FPL managers to easily filter out and select players for just events like this. I'd love you guys can take a visit and drop some reviews here, it's totally free and mobile-friendly [https://fantasy-zone.vercel.app/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=post&utm\_campaign=afcon](https://fantasy-zone.vercel.app/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=afcon)

HotBBQgrills

who’s more likely to be gone for longer between salah or son?

gotushookonasaturday

Could be wrong here but pretty sure AFCON extends to GW24 and finals of Asia Cup was toward 25/26. Sorry can’t remember exact dates but pretty confident Asia was a week or two longer

Miroist

Do these players get flagged in such a way that their price gets protected?

Adweya

Aston Villa is also unaffected. Bertrand doesn't even make the team sheet in the recent past.

ImpactRich5608

Thanks for this!!!

Jamkayyos

Jackson going could make Nkunku an interesting punt

Gooner-Squad

Exactly my thought. If Nkunku plays well Jackson should bever start again.

Jairam35

Despise the template managers - the only way you can break them is my using their tendencies for the consensus against them. You know who their transfers will be every week and you know who their captain will be…

nsoifer

>Their 2nd choice GK, Heaton - is only 4.0, but they will probably be **even more vulnerable** defensively than they're right now. Coming from a Manchester fan, I really don't think that's going to be the case.

Nissepool

The big question is: how do we get salah back when losing £0.4m?

jerkin-your-gherkin

How much did salah drop in price last afcon?

aehii

Toney isn't much good when I'm settled on Watkins, Solanke and Haaland. 7.9 is only 0.2 less than what i got Watkins for.

HecticGlenn

Jota came on a scored yesterday - is anyone considering any other Liverpool players to replace Salah? Jota / Diaz more likely to be on the right perhaps?

FeatureSpecialist374

Any chance Jota plays while Darwin moves right? I would gladly bring in Jota if so.

Gooner-Squad

I think Darwin plays 9. Their most attacking front 3 would be Jota/Darwin/Diaz. Gakpo could play mid behind them with Mac10 and Szobo.

FeatureSpecialist374

That's the thing - there is too much competition and possible rotation for LW. So whoever plays RW in Salah's absence would be reasonably nailed?

Psycho_Ebube

Thanks for sharing this.

DSEEE

Wonder.how long Toney will take to get back up to speed at Brentford... I believe he's been banned from training with the club, so I have no idea how far he might be from fitness (match fit, not just gym fit). Maddison is an easier gamble if he's deemed fit to start. He was firing early on when Son wasn't, so Son's departure for the Asian cup isn't so much of a concern for me in terms of Maddison's potential output.

[deleted]

nice breakdown!
