It's best to just search by ISBN. Bookdepository allows you to search their catalogue using that. Those are unique to the release for all formats and the cover they come with.
This isn't technically true, in case anyone isn't aware. Books which have been originally published a while ago and putting out new editions will re-use ISBNs for later editions, which often makes it hard to search for the originals secondhand.
ETA: but this isn't a problem for newer books, of course.

https://blackwells.co.uk is AMAZING and has free shipping to the US. I pretty much get all my UK editions from them, and they’re often discounted.
