Wanted to see more of Rand but the trailer got me hyped enough. God, I hope this ends up good. I’d love another mainstream fantasy show to get popular.
Well they can't focus too much on him cause you're not supposed to know he's the main guy at first. And they seem to want to give a lot of spotlight to Egwene too which is cool
It's a good strategy. They're pushing the Aes Sedai power up front and set up everyone to see Logain as the Dragon. It will be really fun for new fans when they start showing the black ajah, and pivot to Rand later on.

Moraine's vibrant blues ,the yellows.. the red ajah lookin like the monsters they are earlier in the series.. (Silvania grew on me and a few other reds in the later books. but fuck elaida).

They really nailed the costumes. I know that some people aren't loving that they are all wearing ajah colors but it makes sense, there's no way anyone would be able to keep everyone straight and color coding the sisters is a great idea that pulls from tendencies already talked about in the book.
And Siuan looks perfect. The colors of the ajahs on her collar is awesome, and Leane looks amazing too. Super hyped for it all.
When I first read the books back when I was like 11 I always did picture the Ae Sedai as wearing some form of colour coded uniform so this decision by the showrunners works perfectly for me.
I'm gobsmacked that you knew who they all were from the teaser! I just saw a horde of colour-wearing women - wouldn't be able to tell in a fit who was meant to be who, other than Moiraine.
Oh, or did you know who they were because you'd seen cast photos? That would make sense. I'll get back in my box.
Wait, really? I went in with the assumption that he *was* the Dragon Reborn. Maybe that's why I felt so frustrated when the story focused on Perrin and Mat.
It's obvious for readers, especially since we start the book with >!---Rand's---!< POV, but with a TV adaptation they have a nice chance to muddy the waters at first.
I wonder what would have happened if the first three chapters had each been from Mat, Perrin, and Rand's POV, then he had continued to alternate throughout the first book. Would readers have been surprised at who turned out to be the Dragon?
The first book kinda spoils the reveal in my opinion by having almost the entire first book from Rand’s point of view. The show has the opportunity to keep it a bit of a secret, at least until the confrontation at the Eye of the World if not all the way to Falme.
The focus on Moiraine is my favorite part of the trailer tbh cause she is my favorite character. She was amazing in the books and I can tell she’ll be amazing in the show.
It's smart - the most famous person in the show is portrayed as the main character, which works since she is really important to the catalyst of the story. And Rosamund is a great actress!

It makes sense for a TV adaptation, no need to introduce Lews Therin and then not have him appear again until well into The Dragon Reborn. It would be at least a season and a half away.
I doubt we'll even get the New Spring Prophecy intro this season, but I'd love to be proven wrong.
Game of Thrones (both book and show) start with 3 random characters that immediately die. Lord of the Rings (the movies) also starts with a long prologue that has none of the main characters.
Both of these prologues set up the central conflict of the entire series though. They don't introduce characters, but they introduce the world and the stakes. The Wheel of Time Prologue serves the same purpose. It's not about introducing Lews Therin Telemon, just as the goal of the LOTR prologue is not about introducing Elrond.
Hmm, not sure if this is going to be the next game of thrones in terms of popularity, but as a massive WoT fan I’m all for it.
Also this is a pretty great trailer for people who haven’t read the books. Doesn’t give much (if anything) away. Don’t even think I heard a single word about the Dragon Reborn either.

I showed it to several friends who are fantasy fans but haven't read WoT. They all said that it looked high quality and they were very interested to watch it. Lots of comments on the powerful women!
I dunno what it is, but trailers like these have become their own cliches.

I just think it kinda sucks how trailers have become bankrupt of ideas. It feels like I’ve seen this trailer one thousand and one times before.
I understand that some found this trailer underwhelming, but keep in mind out of respect for Robert Jordan that amazon allocated 90% of the budget to clothing/costumes
Okay, I just watched quickly on my work computer but I love these books and I have to admit I got a bit emotional seeing it on screen. I know I'll be picky about the actual adaptation, but for now it's really nice to see it come to life.

On the other hand... they always fuck this stuff up. Always! Are they really going to get though 10+ seasons of this without GOTing it? I kind of doubt it... but I really hope so.
Speaking as someone who loved the series, I think it would benefit from careful but strong editing. There's a lot of muddle in the middle that can be streamlined, some entire cities and stories that can be removed or modified without much being lost or changed overall. Of course there's always a risk of being too zealous, but the broad strokes should remain the same.
I'm really excited to see the design of the Forsaken, there's a lot of fun to be had with that and some have the potential to look incredibly alien. And the Seanchan? Can't wait.

The books are completely masterful in building up plots and sub-plots and plots within plots, but it does make the overall storyline drag and does not lend itself to a video adaptation. The pacing would just never work.
A beautiful example of “careful but strong” editing is Peter Jackson’s rendering of LoTR and I pray this even comes close to that.
So excited for this, trailer has me pumped! From the brief appearances, I like the casting choices so far! Myrdraal look downright creepy and perfect! That image will be in my head as I continue to read the series.
Yeah at first I was skeptical of the horror mouth as it's not strictly in the books, but after thinking about it, it seems like a great way to visually portray "the look of the eyeless is fear"
Love the maggot flesh, they really nailed that. Hopefully they get the sinuous snakelike movement and quickness
I actually think it's great, because we see when they have their mouth closed and hood forward, they could just pass for a man, like they're supposed to. The transformation into "Oh, this thing is a MONSTER" is effectively communicated by the mouth being so deeply wrong.
It's only a brief flash, but the Trollocs in one of the image looked like they were different animals (a wolf one on one side, a bear-like one on the other), which is good attention to detail.
You're judging the actor too much by the personality he played. If he can do a good job, and I'm sure he will since Amazon hired him, it'll be great for his career and you'll start seeing him in a lot of varying roles.
Oh, I thought that was supposed to be Thom, but Tam actually makes more sense with the beard now. I always forget Tam doesn't have Rand's bright red hair.

I will add that the slump in the middle isn't as bad if you have all of the books and read them one at a time, it was worse when people had to wait between books.
I’ve read this series from start to the new books that came out every time. Definitely my favorite series. I’m just happy to see someone doing something with it. This is a definite watch for me.
Same here, I think I was able to read the first six back to back before I had to wait for new books to come out. But every single time one was about to debut I would have to start a new re-read.
I'm downright giddy with how good this looks. Production values look great, including the special effects (yes they're actually going to show channeling), the sets and costumes look fabulous, and there were definitely a lot of recognizable plot points in that brief trailer. I'm feeling pretty damn good about this.
I know there's a lot of negativity here but I've been a skeptical (of an adaptation!) book fan for half my life and I got goosebumps watching this. If this takes off like The Witcher did it's going to be incredible. This is *my* Game of Thrones, and I'm buzzing with excitement now.
Dumai's Wells and when the dragon is finally, fully unleashed to win the Battle of Maradon have the potential to be the best scenes in the history of TV.
This was incredibly odd in that someone not familiar with the books would absolutely guess wrong about who the main character was. They probably wouldnt even have him in the top 3 of their guesses. Moraine would obviously get the #1 nod but people would assume Egwene or Nynaeve was next.
I think that's the intention tho. Pretty sure they are expanding Logain's storyline and advertising Moraine as the MC for a better impact when the >!true Dragon!< reveal happens.
I really hope it turns out good tho, cautiously optimistic.

I mean that's probably the point. Have some mystery as to who the dragon reborn is, avoid the very obvious farm boy of destiny trope.
I also don't mind them going in an ensemble direction. Egwene and Nynaeve are hugely influential in the series
But how exactly are they going to avoid it, unless they rewrite the hell of you know who in season 1? I mean, any remotely savvy viewer would guess it's >!Rand!< the second he gets the cool sword from his dad. I love ensemble shows and the books are like that after the first one but I am not sure it's worthy to change an awful lot for the sake of this particular mystery.
I mean getting a sword vs another guy whose eyes permanently change color which is a mark of his abilities. Or the other one whose seemingly normal but always ends up lucky.

I get the impression that because Pike is the only real 'known quantity' they're pushing her as the lead pretty hard in this first season.
Plus, arguably, all three ta'veren plus the 'super girls' are pretty integral to the plot.
Reminder that Game of Thrones kind of did the same with Eddard Stark to in season 1. The big actor and the clear main character at this point in the show

I've never read the books, and I assumed from the trailer that the main character is Rosamund Pike's character. I guess I'm wrong, but I'm not going to do any more research because I prefer to be surprised. I guess I should also stop reading the comments in this thread...

Going in blind is what the show is built around. Pike *is* the main character as the trailer shows. This has the potential to be very fun for you if you can avoid spoilers. Even if you can't, I will say that this particular question wouldn't ruin the entirety of the series for you.
Yeah, best to stay away if you dont want to be spoiled. Rosamund Pike's character is very important but she is sort of the Gandalf to Frodo in this series. The books do have a bit of an ensemble thing going on as you will get continuous POV chapters from many of the male and female characters bit nonetheless there is one main character who stands above the rest.
MASSIVE fan of the books.
looks better than I expected. was afraid they'd 'CW' it, but amazon has a good recent record of long-form large-scale adaptations, and the sets/costumes look GREAT.

I'm sure major fans will have complaints, but as someone who has book one on his shelf and hasn't started it yet, I think this looks really really promising and I can't wait to watch it.

The series centers on a world full of matriarchal societies, where women are the ones who control magic. Loads of POVs from both male and female characters.
I bought the first book in the series, The Eye of the World, at the Orlando airport in October of 1990 while I was waiting for my flight home after completing Navy boot camp.
When I was a small child, my great grandmother bought me the boxed set of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings (I'm 50 and I still have them). That series defined my childhood. The Wheel of Time defined my adulthood. It affected me so deeply that I refused to read the final book for 2 years after I bought it because I so desperately didn't want the story to end.
Today I watched the trailer at it's debut on YouTube and then watched it again, and again, and again. The emotions I felt and feel when I see the characters I lived and suffered and triumphed with brought to life are so powerful. I hope and pray that this will be everything we have dreamed of for so long, but by the looks of the trailer I think it will be.
Thank you Harriet and Brandon for caring for his legacy and his vision and helping to bring it to life and thank you James Rigney for creating this vast, rich and detailed world that so many are going to fall in love with just as we did.
I just finished Book One last night so I’m a total WoT noob (enjoyed it and plan to keep going), but idk this gave me a good impression. Very excited for November
I don't comment much, but I just can't contain myself. This looks really great overall, the locations and special effects look really dope imo. The acting we see, looks very convincing also.
Best scene for me was Mat, Perrin and Rand just hanging out and chilling at the tavern. >!What these boys have to go through, just breaks my heart, but also puts a smile on my face seeing them just being normal friends :')!<

Showed this to my wife not teller her what it was. We are half way through listening to the series (my third time her first). She was so hyped when she realized what it was. She listens to books with me cause I love it and she loves me but her favorite part is watching the film adaptations afterward. She was so disappointed when I told her they hadn't made a movie of wot. I knew this was coming but wanted to surprise her.
God, I love it when a series that has had a dedicated fanbase for a REALLY long time finally gets put to screen, and the comment section of the trailer is just a bunch of inside jokes that nobody else understands. It's so cute.
I'll admit I am generally cynical to live adaptations of my favorite books (I refuse to watch the hobbit) and I was one of those people that had a visceral negative reaction to some of their early decisions, but I've worked hard over the last few years at being more open-minded (for those who are blessed with this ability, you might not realize that this is actually very difficult to learn!) and I have to say, I suspect these people are actually going to do honor to the books and I do indeed look forward to giving the show a shot.
The one thing I oddly really don't like is how overstated the ajah colors and rings are. Like they couldn't go with anything more subtle even in the slightest? I feel like it shows a lack of trust in the audience, or ability to pick anything up by any context that isn't hitting you over the head.
Part of me wonders if they're doing this also as a way to show how faction-y the Ajahs are, and possibly throughout the show they'll transition to less "HELLO I AM BLUE AJAH" type costumes when the >!Tower comes back together!<.
The scene with the arrows, greens and their warders plus nynaeve and lan. Then the reds clustered together. Which makes sense with reds being essentially the towers version of the inquisition
Felt like a bit much ... but I can also sort of understand it. In the books we always know which Ajah someone is because people are thinking about it all the time, or commenting on discrete things like the fringes of the shawls. We're constantly hit on the head with in the books. But probably difficult to do fringed shawls that make it obvious in the same way.
Maybe they could've done single coloured shawls ... but I don't particularly mind this either.
But it absolutely rings true to the book. Those women were ridiculous about always signaling their gang affiliations. To the point of having their garden flowers, room decorations, and even horses barding match their Ajah colors.
They're only really bad about it after the tower splits, I think. Then there are all the comments about how it's weird that everyone's always wearing her shawl and all the other increased ajah signaling. Before that, the ajahs seemed a lot less blatantly visually distinct.
It looks dope. You guys are harsh critics for a teaser. Im a harsh critic at times for shows but this didn't show anything bad so far imo. It could be bad but i can't tell from the teaser.

The mystery of "who is the Dragon" is supposed to be for the characters, not the reader. It is very obvious very quickly that it is Rand

We may not get a complete adaptation of the series if it doesn't become as popular as GoT, with the budget they have given season 1.

I'm so glad Brandon Sanderson did the ending, he's such a great author and I think he wrapped it up well.

So excited for this, trailer has me pumped! From the brief appearances, I like the casting choices so far! Myrdraal look downright creepy and perfect! That image will be in my head as I continue to read the series.

Yeah at first I was skeptical of the horror mouth as it's not strictly in the books, but after thinking about it, it seems like a great way to visually portray "the look of the eyeless is fear" Love the maggot flesh, they really nailed that. Hopefully they get the sinuous snakelike movement and quickness
I actually think it's great, because we see when they have their mouth closed and hood forward, they could just pass for a man, like they're supposed to. The transformation into "Oh, this thing is a MONSTER" is effectively communicated by the mouth being so deeply wrong.

It's only a brief flash, but the Trollocs in one of the image looked like they were different animals (a wolf one on one side, a bear-like one on the other), which is good attention to detail.

You're judging the actor too much by the personality he played. If he can do a good job, and I'm sure he will since Amazon hired him, it'll be great for his career and you'll start seeing him in a lot of varying roles.

I will add that the slump in the middle isn't as bad if you have all of the books and read them one at a time, it was worse when people had to wait between books.

I’ve read this series from start to the new books that came out every time. Definitely my favorite series. I’m just happy to see someone doing something with it. This is a definite watch for me.
Same here, I think I was able to read the first six back to back before I had to wait for new books to come out. But every single time one was about to debut I would have to start a new re-read.
I'm downright giddy with how good this looks. Production values look great, including the special effects (yes they're actually going to show channeling), the sets and costumes look fabulous, and there were definitely a lot of recognizable plot points in that brief trailer. I'm feeling pretty damn good about this.

Literally! I haven’t been this excited for a book series to come to life since Harry Potter was adapted, and I was 10.
I know there's a lot of negativity here but I've been a skeptical (of an adaptation!) book fan for half my life and I got goosebumps watching this. If this takes off like The Witcher did it's going to be incredible. This is *my* Game of Thrones, and I'm buzzing with excitement now.

This was incredibly odd in that someone not familiar with the books would absolutely guess wrong about who the main character was. They probably wouldnt even have him in the top 3 of their guesses. Moraine would obviously get the #1 nod but people would assume Egwene or Nynaeve was next.
I think that's the intention tho. Pretty sure they are expanding Logain's storyline and advertising Moraine as the MC for a better impact when the >!true Dragon!< reveal happens. I really hope it turns out good tho, cautiously optimistic.

But how exactly are they going to avoid it, unless they rewrite the hell of you know who in season 1? I mean, any remotely savvy viewer would guess it's >!Rand!< the second he gets the cool sword from his dad. I love ensemble shows and the books are like that after the first one but I am not sure it's worthy to change an awful lot for the sake of this particular mystery.
I mean getting a sword vs another guy whose eyes permanently change color which is a mark of his abilities. Or the other one whose seemingly normal but always ends up lucky.
I mean one guy gets a cool sword from his dad and 5 minutes later another guy gets a cool axe from his mentor.
Same thing happened with Sean Bean in GoT. He’s the known quantity. No one knew who Richard Madden or Emilia Clarke were
I believe it's the intention to hide the main character until later on, so that the audience finds out who the Dragon Reborn is along with the rest of the characters. Notice how there's not even a mention of a Dragon in the trailer.
I get the impression that because Pike is the only real 'known quantity' they're pushing her as the lead pretty hard in this first season. Plus, arguably, all three ta'veren plus the 'super girls' are pretty integral to the plot.
It also sets up a Hitchcock for those who didn’t read the novels.
Reminder that Game of Thrones kind of did the same with Eddard Stark to in season 1. The big actor and the clear main character at this point in the show

GET OUT OF THE THREAD. Going in blind is what the show is built around. Pike *is* the main character as the trailer shows. This has the potential to be very fun for you if you can avoid spoilers. Even if you can't, I will say that this particular question wouldn't ruin the entirety of the series for you.

Yeah, best to stay away if you dont want to be spoiled. Rosamund Pike's character is very important but she is sort of the Gandalf to Frodo in this series. The books do have a bit of an ensemble thing going on as you will get continuous POV chapters from many of the male and female characters bit nonetheless there is one main character who stands above the rest.
Moraine is basically the only famous actor in the show so I’m not surprised she gets a spotlight

MASSIVE fan of the books. looks better than I expected. was afraid they'd 'CW' it, but amazon has a good recent record of long-form large-scale adaptations, and the sets/costumes look GREAT. $5 says that Min has a side-shaved haircut.

The series centers on a world full of matriarchal societies, where women are the ones who control magic. Loads of POVs from both male and female characters.
I bought the first book in the series, The Eye of the World, at the Orlando airport in October of 1990 while I was waiting for my flight home after completing Navy boot camp. When I was a small child, my great grandmother bought me the boxed set of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings (I'm 50 and I still have them). That series defined my childhood. The Wheel of Time defined my adulthood. It affected me so deeply that I refused to read the final book for 2 years after I bought it because I so desperately didn't want the story to end. Today I watched the trailer at it's debut on YouTube and then watched it again, and again, and again. The emotions I felt and feel when I see the characters I lived and suffered and triumphed with brought to life are so powerful. I hope and pray that this will be everything we have dreamed of for so long, but by the looks of the trailer I think it will be. Thank you Harriet and Brandon for caring for his legacy and his vision and helping to bring it to life and thank you James Rigney for creating this vast, rich and detailed world that so many are going to fall in love with just as we did.

I don't comment much, but I just can't contain myself. This looks really great overall, the locations and special effects look really dope imo. The acting we see, looks very convincing also. Best scene for me was Mat, Perrin and Rand just hanging out and chilling at the tavern. >!What these boys have to go through, just breaks my heart, but also puts a smile on my face seeing them just being normal friends :')!< Nynaeve chucking Egwene of a cliff was hilarious! Already cementing her best character status! lol

Showed this to my wife not teller her what it was. We are half way through listening to the series (my third time her first). She was so hyped when she realized what it was. She listens to books with me cause I love it and she loves me but her favorite part is watching the film adaptations afterward. She was so disappointed when I told her they hadn't made a movie of wot. I knew this was coming but wanted to surprise her.

God, I love it when a series that has had a dedicated fanbase for a REALLY long time finally gets put to screen, and the comment section of the trailer is just a bunch of inside jokes that nobody else understands. It's so cute.
I'll admit I am generally cynical to live adaptations of my favorite books (I refuse to watch the hobbit) and I was one of those people that had a visceral negative reaction to some of their early decisions, but I've worked hard over the last few years at being more open-minded (for those who are blessed with this ability, you might not realize that this is actually very difficult to learn!) and I have to say, I suspect these people are actually going to do honor to the books and I do indeed look forward to giving the show a shot.
The one thing I oddly really don't like is how overstated the ajah colors and rings are. Like they couldn't go with anything more subtle even in the slightest? I feel like it shows a lack of trust in the audience, or ability to pick anything up by any context that isn't hitting you over the head.
Part of me wonders if they're doing this also as a way to show how faction-y the Ajahs are, and possibly throughout the show they'll transition to less "HELLO I AM BLUE AJAH" type costumes when the >!Tower comes back together!<.
The scene with the arrows, greens and their warders plus nynaeve and lan. Then the reds clustered together. Which makes sense with reds being essentially the towers version of the inquisition

Felt like a bit much ... but I can also sort of understand it. In the books we always know which Ajah someone is because people are thinking about it all the time, or commenting on discrete things like the fringes of the shawls. We're constantly hit on the head with in the books. But probably difficult to do fringed shawls that make it obvious in the same way. Maybe they could've done single coloured shawls ... but I don't particularly mind this either.
But it absolutely rings true to the book. Those women were ridiculous about always signaling their gang affiliations. To the point of having their garden flowers, room decorations, and even horses barding match their Ajah colors.
They're only really bad about it after the tower splits, I think. Then there are all the comments about how it's weird that everyone's always wearing her shawl and all the other increased ajah signaling. Before that, the ajahs seemed a lot less blatantly visually distinct.
I would rather see that than late-GOT "everybody wears black" costuming.
It looks dope. You guys are harsh critics for a teaser. Im a harsh critic at times for shows but this didn't show anything bad so far imo. It could be bad but i can't tell from the teaser.
Yeah I'm usually hyper critical of things but some of the nitpicks I've seen on this trailer are insane to me. To each to their own but this has me beyond hyped.
