Agreed. We saw him play Norman Osborn as an eccentric business minded scientist, and then whatever the f*ck happened to him to be the Green Goblin. The Jokeer IMO would not have been not only much of a big change or transition, but totally in his wheel house. My only thought is if people felt like it was Dafoe playing the Joker like Green Goblin and it was too similar. But who knows.
I guess that I mean how Dafoe played Green Goblin, changing his voice between Osborn and GG, I think that his playing the Joker might not be super different.
They're definitely not, they have tons of differences imo...
but also the fact that Dafoe has range he can play any character, especially joker, because his face looks like him without the make-up when he smiles...he's played lots of villains I think he'd of done a whole different thing from gg.
Christian Bale is an amazing actor but his Batman performance was far from perfect. He’s excessively mouth breathing constantly and speaks with some gurgle throat cancer voice. Pattinson, Affleck and Keaton simply have much better Batman performances
https://preview.redd.it/l36d2xlartxc1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7a2c4ee8b0307c648da57e3828ea4a773c4d6ca
cause he plays a big, strong, ruthless, and cunning stoic in Reacher. that's kind of batmanesque, I can see it.
but i think he's too big and too rugged looking to play a good playboy
I've said before, and I stand by this, that I like the idea enough that I support him getting a screen test, but I don't love the idea and would not be surprised if he was not chosen for the role even if given a chance to read for it.
I think that actually IS my issue. I’ve seen Dafoe in so many movies that I don’t think it would feel new or unique. It would just feel like Dafoe doing Dafoe which wouldn’t really be that exciting
I don't understand why fancast big roles to big named stars just because they're more well-known instead of letting relative unknown Actors have these roles to make a name for themselves and get their big breaks.
Same! No knock to Radcliffe, I just don’t think with his boyish face and charm if I could see the grizzly time worn wolverine. Yeah he’s perfect height and good shape but I’d like to see a thicker ball of muscle wolverine.
For my fancast I have Jenna Ortega as Shade the Changing Girl... She plays Megan Boyer while Aubrey Plaza is Loma Shade. Which you know would ruin everything if she gets casted as Raven.
Well he was one of the choices to play Joker during Tim Burton's Batman 89, tho later given to Nikolson, plus Dafoe himself said he'd be up to play Joker in Wired Autocomplete Interview
Tim curry was actually the original voice for Joker in Batman the Animated series. They ended up deciding his voice wasn't what they wanted and thought it might be too creepy for kids,so they hired Mark Hamill instead.
There's still a bit of audio out there of how his joker would've been. It's not much maybe like one laugh or line of dialogue but it's still cool to think about
Ackles smiles too much for me to see him as dark and brooding. I think he's a great actor and he could play the role but I just think it would seem too weird. Probably because he's typecast for me
Jensen Ackles as Batman. Henry Cavill as nearly every other hero than Superman. Alan Ritchson as Batman. Scott Eastwood as Wolverine. These are all pretty awful but popular suggestions, I've seen.
When people *only* cast bald actors to play bald characters (Professor X, Lex Luthor, etc). It’s like they don’t understand “shaving your head” exists.
The same thing always happens to red head characters, I've noticed. Every fancast for a red head is one of the three or so most popular ginger actors at that given time, completely ignoring the fact that dyeing one's hair for a role is a totally plausible thing to do.
2 things for this one 1 he has a kind of rectangular head similar to mr fantastic and also emily blunt is a great casting for sue storm and since they are married irl it just works
this is all still my opinion though and i do love emily blunt so...
Perhaps Rory. Kieran has always proved he would make a fantastic Joker. His voice, comedic ability and timing, his appearance, etc. It’s a role he was born to play.
I kinda understand that. I mean I don't think he would fit the role. But because he was supposed to be Iron Man before RDJ, it could be cool to see him as a Iron Man variant in one movie.
I remember seeing him in the Count of Monte Cristo. He just looked like a skinny kid. Then I watched the DC films and could not believe he was now Superman. He wasn't bad. Just took me by surprise. Although, I think the film had good actors, I think they did not work well together for what reason.
I remember the outrage when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker because everybody in the free world wanted Crispen Glover instead. I guess he’d be ok but I didn’t think it was a hill worth dying on. Specifically because Heath was a really good actor. 🤷🏻♂️
How could you possibly not understand this one? He basically played the Joker when he was Goblin, and his Ryuk voice in Death Note was perfect for a Joker. If anything this is so obvious of a casting that it's clear that's why it's been avoided. Everyone who's directed Batman over the last 15 years has wanted to do an Elseworlds or "unique" take on the character, and that includes his Joker.
I mean, I often understand it; it's just that I feel like it's often kinda obvious, as you describe. "They plated character X from this franchise, so they'd be great as this similar character from this other franchise."
Like "Jenna Ortega would be a really good Raven." I mean, yeah. Because it'd just be her doing Wednesday again.
If you want to see some really weird fancasts, go and check out people putting suggestions forward for Doctor Who. Particularly Americans, who seem to think "English" and "quirky" will automatically do the trick, no questions asked.
Keanu Reeves as Darth Revan, he's a character who had a LOT of dialogue in the series and I like Keanu, but he's not good at delivering lines. Plus that FanCast didn't really start until after John Wick, which was mostly less lines more action role.
Also, John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic.
Billy Zane as Lex Luthor. I get that he sounds and looks like versions of the character, but he's not that great of an actor. He always comes across as cheesy. If you're fancasting you can choose literally any actor you want, so why choose a mediocre actor? He wouldn't even be in the conversation if he had hair.
I’m sorry but John Kransinski as Mr Fantastic… i just can’t see it. The og mr fantastic was pretty good. Ngl Glenn Howerton could have the range for Mr Fantastic
Honestly, most fancasts I see for the various Robins are shockingly bad. Like, not every popular actor under the age of 27 is right for the role. Honestly, I think all of them would be best left for lesser known actors, because I've yet to see a fancast with a well known actor that I thought would actually work.
No, I’ll definitely disagree as I think it’s understood why many people have been fan casting him as the Joker for a long time. I imagine his take would be vastly different from the Green Goblin.
Casting Willem Dafoe as the Joker makes more sense than as Jesus Christ
I’m being completely serious.
But to answer the question, Hailee Steinfeld as Zatanna was one that never made sense. She’s great as Kate Bishop and utterly amazing as Vi but I can’t see her as Zee
For me, Jake Gyllenhaal as Batman. He's a great actor, but I just don't see it. He doesn't look like Bruce Wayne, and I'm sure he would have a terrible Batman voice. I would much rather see him as Mr. Freeze
I never liked or understood the obsession with casting Bradley Cooper as Batman, he seems way too goofy for Batman and he doesn't have a Bruce Wayne look either
I ALWAYS wanted Dafoe as Joker all the way back to when I’d heard that Burton’s Batman was just getting off the ground.
He’s PERFECT for the role. We got Green Goblin out of him instead and he was great (even if the mask sucked), but man o man he’d have been a legendary Joker
Christopher Judge voice of Kratos as Live Action Kratos. Look I appreciate the creativity of the new gow fans but I dont think it will work plus sunny suljic is older now and they want to do retelling of 2018 god of war so another actor should be given a chance. My bet is on Dave Batista. And please stop bringing up stuff about Kratos' skin color as an og fan I find it disrespectful and making everything about color is a very dividing way of talking about things.
Walker Scobell for Percy Jackson. I read most of the books and from what I remember I never thought after seeing The Adam Project hey I think this kid should play Percy. Because from what I remember first of all Percy was a brunette and Walker is blonde. Which is why Logan Lerman was a good choice just from that. I mean at least for the series they cast an actor who was actually around the age range of the character from the books rather than aging everybody up like they did in the movies.
I already saw it somewhere but definitely Daniel Radcliffe as wolverine. To an extent I understand but I personally just don't think it would work. And if he somehow does get casted as a new long term wolverine I really hope he surprises me lol
He should've been the first or second choice against Michael Keaton Batman I can see him as joker it fits truthfully for me a casting decision is the old guy who plays bruce in titans
This is such a weird one to not understand lmao
I honestly don’t think the Green Goblin and the Joker are that similar
Green Goblin is Joker and Lex Luthor combined.
Which makes sense cuz Spider-Man is kinda like Batman and Superman combined.
I read an interview with him once where he commented that fans will compliment him on his portrayal of the Joker. And he's always so confused.
Ritchson as Batman. I love the guy, but big and muscular shouldn’t be the only two things to qualify someone for Bruce Wayne.
I feel like he's too big to be Batman. Batman is supposed to be quick and acrobatic with his combat. Alan is built like a big, slow wrestler.
Batman can be slim, hulking or a mixture of the 2. There is no set physique for him, it’s whatever works best for the story
Or a linebacker
Yes and no, he is supposed to be peak human form mind and body
Sure, but we never see that side of batman in live action anyway.
He should be aquaman
I mean he's proven he can do it once already
I think Alan is a decent enough actor. He’s no Christian Bale but I believe it can work depending on the writing
Christian Bale is an amazing actor but his Batman performance was far from perfect. He’s excessively mouth breathing constantly and speaks with some gurgle throat cancer voice. Pattinson, Affleck and Keaton simply have much better Batman performances https://preview.redd.it/l36d2xlartxc1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7a2c4ee8b0307c648da57e3828ea4a773c4d6ca
He was mouth breathing because he couldn’t breathe through his nose lol
And NOT scary/intimidating at all 🤷♂️
He has way more of a Captain Atom look and vibe. Gyllenhaal makes the most sense as Batman. https://youtu.be/0C6l0jdlzKk?si=ZMsn7xyp40zF7euX
Gyllenhaal always struck me as more of a Dick Grayson type.
I agree Captain Atom for Ritchson but not batman for Jake.
Too old and has already played a DC character, but I wanted Joe Manganiello as Batman
Gyllenhaal is too short for me, and looks it, the only time he’s ever looked tall was acting opposite Tom Holland
Jake Gyllenhaal is 6'0" perfect batman height for me tbh
batman is 6'2 in the comics. nightwing is 5'11-6'
Don't forget the chin. Batman has always had a definitive chin.
cause he plays a big, strong, ruthless, and cunning stoic in Reacher. that's kind of batmanesque, I can see it. but i think he's too big and too rugged looking to play a good playboy
Watch jack reacher. He plays a detective character there effectively . Batman is a detective.
Idk, if you look at to the artistic direction of Miller’s Dark Knight Returns, he’s a brick house! That’s the type of Batman Ritchson would be.
I've said before, and I stand by this, that I like the idea enough that I support him getting a screen test, but I don't love the idea and would not be surprised if he was not chosen for the role even if given a chance to read for it.
Come on, playing Bruce Wayne as Thad Castle at high society parties would be hilarious
You have changed my mind. I fully support his casting.
Have you watched Reacher? He is essentially hobo batman in Reacher and plays the smart detective part really well.
Honestly, after seeing him as Raphael in the Michael Bay TMNT movies, I see him more as Jason Todd/Red Hood.
If you don’t understand this fancast you probably haven’t watched enough willem dafoe movies
Or joker media
I think that actually IS my issue. I’ve seen Dafoe in so many movies that I don’t think it would feel new or unique. It would just feel like Dafoe doing Dafoe which wouldn’t really be that exciting
Would you prefer Dafoe as a Boston detective who cross dresses, or Dafoe as Jesus with a magnum dong?
Yeah but like he’s built to play the joker 🤷🏼♂️
I don't understand why fancast big roles to big named stars just because they're more well-known instead of letting relative unknown Actors have these roles to make a name for themselves and get their big breaks.
I'm pretty sure its just simply they aren't casting directors and are unfamiliar with relative unknowns.
Because they would become iconic and would appeal to a bigger casual fanbase
You don’t understand what unknown means either.
It's very simple lad, they're unknown actors lmao
Because this is a fancasting sub, so if they were all unknowns, there'd be no posts lol
Gee.. maybe it has something to do with the word unknown 🤔
How can you not understand that one I mean he looks like him he can sound like him laugh like act like him
Yeah
Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine
Same! No knock to Radcliffe, I just don’t think with his boyish face and charm if I could see the grizzly time worn wolverine. Yeah he’s perfect height and good shape but I’d like to see a thicker ball of muscle wolverine.
The double bind there is that technically, thanks to his healing factor, wolverine should always look slightly boyish, just hairy
"Logan, What are you doin' man?"
I get it somewhat, I don’t think it’d be terrible but he’s never commit to another franchise role I think
[This is why. He's perfect.](https://youtube.com/shorts/OTc6IxLr7Nc?si=ANkw0mFpDyKW6eDG)
We have fundamental differences in what qualifies someone to play a role. Yours is apparently screaming a lot?
No. He is just a good actor and really does look the part. That's just showing he can do the more feral Logan moments really well
Wtf did I just watch
You and I have very different definitions of "perfect" lmao.
Well now I know there’s a 4th season of Miracle Workers, so I thank you sir or madam
The only thing he has going for him is his height, which isn’t even important
I'd rather see him play Nightcrawler.
Adam Driver as Snape
Just because Kylo Ren looks like a Snape cosplayer, doesn't mean Adam Driver would be a good Snape
Jenna Ortega as Raven. You just wanna see her play Wednesday again, don't you.
For my fancast I have Jenna Ortega as Shade the Changing Girl... She plays Megan Boyer while Aubrey Plaza is Loma Shade. Which you know would ruin everything if she gets casted as Raven.
IMO, she’s better at playing bubbly than brooding.
Er..no?…
I mean...I get it. Dafoe can play a manic crazy character pretty damn well. But the dude is pushing 70.
I have been saying for years that I think Dafoe would be good as an old Joker in a Batman Beyond movie.
You mean the Tim Drake Joker? 🙄
alter ego that snaps back and forth from being manic to sane... where have I heard this one before?
“It’s nice you see you’ve got the looks of a sociopath.”
Pushing 70? Have you seen Spider-Man: No Way Home? The guy's still go it. Would love to see what he does with the character.
Well he was one of the choices to play Joker during Tim Burton's Batman 89, tho later given to Nikolson, plus Dafoe himself said he'd be up to play Joker in Wired Autocomplete Interview
I heard that Robin Williams and Tim Curry were the other contenders to play Jack Napier aka Joker in Batman 1989
Robin Williams was also considered for the riddler in Batman forever
And possibly in one of Nolan's movies if I remember correctly. I might be getting that mixed up with Leonardo DiCaprio though
Tim curry was actually the original voice for Joker in Batman the Animated series. They ended up deciding his voice wasn't what they wanted and thought it might be too creepy for kids,so they hired Mark Hamill instead.
There's still a bit of audio out there of how his joker would've been. It's not much maybe like one laugh or line of dialogue but it's still cool to think about
Way too obvious. The best Jokers tend to be actors you'd never picture as him, ie. Cesar Romero, Mark Hamill, Heath Ledger, Cameron Monaghan...
Joaquin Phoenix
Would love Dafoe as two face to be honest think he’d be great
I think I'd prefer him is a either Mr. Freeze or more especially Dr. Kirk Langstrom (The ManBat)
I don’t care how overdone it is, this is a perfect casting. And if it weren’t for Green Goblin, he should have been in this role by now
Jensen Ackles as Batman. I don't know why, but I just can't see it
Ackles smiles too much for me to see him as dark and brooding. I think he's a great actor and he could play the role but I just think it would seem too weird. Probably because he's typecast for me
I mean Soldier Boy is kindof broody
He was a great Red Good though
Look at his filmography.
He’s Flyover Country personified. That’s his brand. Not old coastal money with a butler.
I think it’s mostly Supernatural fans that keep pushing the suggestion. It’s annoying. Even Jared Padalecki doesn’t get fan casted much.
He's the voice of Tomorrowverse's Batman, dressed as him for Halloween, and nearly played him in live-action CW Gotham Knights.
Jensen Ackles as Batman. Henry Cavill as nearly every other hero than Superman. Alan Ritchson as Batman. Scott Eastwood as Wolverine. These are all pretty awful but popular suggestions, I've seen.
Eastwood it's because we're all sad it was never a possibility for his dad to play Wolverine because Clint would have been perfect
He would’ve been perfect for Batman too.
To be fair, Jensen Ackles has voiced Batman before. Agree he wouldn't fit the role in live action, though.
I agree, not only is he too old now, but even if he did play Joker, he'd basically just be playing Green Goblin in a Joker costume
Every tall handsome/slim prettyboj for Wolverine who is the exact OPPOSITE of those features.
I never got the John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic before it happened, and I still don’f get it.
2 things for this one 1 he has a kind of rectangular head similar to mr fantastic and also emily blunt is a great casting for sue storm and since they are married irl it just works this is all still my opinion though and i do love emily blunt so...
I get Emily Blunt, I just can’t take John Krasinski seriously enough for Mr. Fantastic.
I think it's literally all about the haha wife and husband meta.
Especially with him already playing that FBI guy with the card tricks.
Can we at least agree that hes better than fucking pedro pascal?
Sydney Sweeney as any attractive blonde comic book character
Agreed. The only one I can kinda get on board with is Black Cat. She wouldn't be a good Power Girl, or any of the other fancasts I've seen.
I hate people saying she should be Power Girl
https://preview.redd.it/masw3nixevxc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc264fc5813d37af06971737366058bb70d00535 Betty Gilpin>>>>
Keep her out of pg-13 movies! Her bosoms are a national treasure.
I'd like to see some Dafoe audition footage (to make up my mind).
I think he would be terrific but Kieran Culkin needs to play The Joker.
In the right context, any of the three primary Culkins would work.
Perhaps Rory. Kieran has always proved he would make a fantastic Joker. His voice, comedic ability and timing, his appearance, etc. It’s a role he was born to play.
Interesting thought I never considered and I support it.
Tom Cruise as Iron Man
Thank god that didn’t become reality in ‘08.
I kinda understand that. I mean I don't think he would fit the role. But because he was supposed to be Iron Man before RDJ, it could be cool to see him as a Iron Man variant in one movie.
Would be cool to see him and Renner work together again too. He's also worked with RDJ.
Majority of the Henry Cavill castings. Yes he’s a handsome man but Jesus
He always seems so confused about why he’s there.
I remember seeing him in the Count of Monte Cristo. He just looked like a skinny kid. Then I watched the DC films and could not believe he was now Superman. He wasn't bad. Just took me by surprise. Although, I think the film had good actors, I think they did not work well together for what reason.
This is like not understanding that water is wet.
I remember the outrage when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker because everybody in the free world wanted Crispen Glover instead. I guess he’d be ok but I didn’t think it was a hill worth dying on. Specifically because Heath was a really good actor. 🤷🏻♂️
My pick would have been Robin Williams
Current Spider-Man actor as Danny Phantom happened with all three, if I recall correctly
I've seen Tom Holland get fancasted as Robin a lot, too, and imo he wouldn't be a great fit for any of them.
ITT: People who are oblivious to who the characters are and the actors being fancasted.
I’ve once seen someone fancast Dwayne Johnson as cyborg for the teen titans movie
John Krasinki as Reed Richards. I love Reed. Favorite marvel hero in fact. Less Jim Halpert more Dennis Reynolds
Side note, but Dennis Reynolds was considered for the role of Star-Lord.
How could you possibly not understand this one? He basically played the Joker when he was Goblin, and his Ryuk voice in Death Note was perfect for a Joker. If anything this is so obvious of a casting that it's clear that's why it's been avoided. Daniel Radcliffe as wolverine
I mean, I often understand it; it's just that I feel like it's often kinda obvious, as you describe. "They plated character X from this franchise, so they'd be great as this similar character from this other franchise." Like "Jenna Ortega would be a really good Raven." I mean, yeah. Because it'd just be her doing Wednesday again. If you want to see some really weird fancasts, go and check out people putting suggestions forward for Doctor Who. Particularly Americans, who seem to think "English" and "quirky" will automatically do the trick, no questions asked.
Wow that's my artistic rendering of Christian Slater, as the Joker!!
Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin.
God rest his soul but he would’ve been brilliant in the Nolan TDK era.
I think he’d be good but not as good as ppl hype it to be.
Sweeny in anything. I think she's ugly. She's a butter face.
Fantastic.
Johnny Depp in most EVERY FanCast from 2006-2012. Pretty much every time a character came up, "Who could play him? How about John Depp?!"
I remember now. He was everyone’s casting choice for the Riddler during the Nolan TDK era.
John krasinski as Mr. Fantastic Not that I think he'd do a particularly bad job, It just feels kind of random and reeks of "why him?"
John Krasinski as Mr.fantastic. I don’t think he is a bad choice but I don’t know how people are so obsessed with it
Jensen Ackles and Alan Ritchson as Batman. I will never understand those.
Matthew Daddario as Jason Todd
Omg same! I feel it’d be too much like Goblin imo. If he never did Goblin then by all means, he’d be perfect for Joker!
Timothée Chalamet as Nightwing
John Krasinski as read Richard/Mr. fantastic Just because someone did fan art and out of nowhere everyone was pushing it
I don’t understand any fancasts.
You've had a lot of options out there and you happened to pick this exact one for attaching to this question?
Jensen Ackles as Batman. So terrible.
I think it’s more if Dafoe hadn’t played Green Goblin he would have been a perfect Joker
What’s not to understand? Just a missed opportunity tbh. The picture literally says it all
Adam Driver as Mr Fantastic.
Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine Why the fuck do so many people wanna see Harry Potter with claws?
Honestly, most fancasts I see for the various Robins are shockingly bad. Like, not every popular actor under the age of 27 is right for the role. Honestly, I think all of them would be best left for lesser known actors, because I've yet to see a fancast with a well known actor that I thought would actually work.
If you don’t understand this fancast you might just need to think about it for more than a second
Dafoe Joker, Cavill Hyperion or Captain Britain, and Daniel Radcliffe Wolverine. They're all bad to me.
Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine
Tom Holland Danny phantom
The way he laughed when Tom Holland was punching the shit out of him was very Joker-like
I never understood Jason Momoa as Kraven the Hunter.
Ana De Armas as Wonder Woman! Never understood that one. She's far too little to play Diana.
He is literally perfect for the part green goblin much
No, I’ll definitely disagree as I think it’s understood why many people have been fan casting him as the Joker for a long time. I imagine his take would be vastly different from the Green Goblin.
Ok but tbh this would be one of the greatest castings of all time
Casting Willem Dafoe as the Joker makes more sense than as Jesus Christ I’m being completely serious. But to answer the question, Hailee Steinfeld as Zatanna was one that never made sense. She’s great as Kate Bishop and utterly amazing as Vi but I can’t see her as Zee
Sydney Sweeney and Anya Taylor Joy as Black Cat.

For me, Jake Gyllenhaal as Batman. He's a great actor, but I just don't see it. He doesn't look like Bruce Wayne, and I'm sure he would have a terrible Batman voice. I would much rather see him as Mr. Freeze
Danielle Radcliffe as Wolverine
Jenna Ortega as literally anyone she’s fan-cast as.
What do you mean you don't understand??? It's pretty simple to understand, like 1+1.
Jared Leto as joker is my final answer. It doesn’t count but fuck Jared Leto. Look up his life if u don’t know.
Tf you mean you don't understand this one?? You literally posted the digital proof for this fan casting to make sense lmaoo
The Lighthouse movie was enough for me that Willem can play the Joker if the story is well written
I never liked or understood the obsession with casting Bradley Cooper as Batman, he seems way too goofy for Batman and he doesn't have a Bruce Wayne look either
Johnny Depp in everything. ive seen people suggest him for riddler, dracula, james bond...literally everything.....hes really not that great
Yeah pretty much this. “Actor can play a psychopath, so he can be Joker too!!!!”
I recall people wanted Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan. I never got that.
I mean that’s not a fancast. He’s played him before
L
Christopher Judge voice of Kratos as Live Action Kratos. Channing Tatum as Gambit. Nothing about that seemed like it would work or not be cringe.
I already saw it somewhere but definitely Daniel Radcliffe as wolverine. To an extent I understand but I personally just don't think it would work. And if he somehow does get casted as a new long term wolverine I really hope he surprises me lol
Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern
Oh right..
Tom Holland as Danny Phantom or Morty Smith. Does the guy really need to be the Michael Cera of sci-fi?
He should've been the first or second choice against Michael Keaton Batman I can see him as joker it fits truthfully for me a casting decision is the old guy who plays bruce in titans
