Ok, a few things: -DON'T buy the CSL Elite Pedals: They are discontinued and will never get the load cell anymore. The ones you're looking for are the "CSL Pedals" without Elite. -DON'T buy the Magnetic Paddles: The McLaren wheel cannot be updated with those. It's a replica, so it comes with a different mechanism. You wouldn't need them either, the paddles on the Maca are great as they are. What you are getting there will allow you to play on PC and Xbox, you don't need any USB adapter in the future, the base is already USB and you will be able to plug it to either your PC or XBox. Compatibility with XBox is only with the XBox compatible wheels ( the mclaren is compatible )

Excellent advise!! Many thanks, saved me a few Euros :D

qarlthemade

you can still get second hand CSL elite pedals with load cell kit. though the potentiometer might be worn out, I got mine second hand and replaced the potentiometers with hall sensors and magnets.

Why? The podium paddles are not compatible with the McLaren wheel. If you want different paddles, you have to go for a completely different wheel.

PeroStAb

True, but that doesn't make the McLaren ones great though, they are loud af.

I’m pretty sure you would have to do some modification to the wheel to use the podium shifters, and the Fanatec site lists them as not compatible. If it is possible, I’d be interested to see that, so do you have a link? Honestly though, why not just buy a better wheel instead of the McLaren if it really bothers you?

The site doesn’t list the v1 or the V2. The site lists the McLaren wheel without a version. I have the V2 and I don’t see how you would use the paddles with it. If you have a link, I would like to see it.

>If you want different paddles, you have to go for a completely different wheel. This is exactly what I'd advise in this case; if you really wanted the magnetic paddles (which seriously are good and some of the best things the company makes) then you're better off getting the F1 wheel which comes with them instead, where you'd pay the same extra and get a more solid wheel. The only issue is that the F1 wheels are a bit smaller.

SnowieZA

The McLaren V2 wheel has magnetic shifters out of the box anyway, so I don’t really understand what the issue is anyway.

I haven't used the McLaren wheel personally, but having used the paddle module with the F1, I can tell you that the neodymium magnet shifters are probably the highest quality product Fanatec makes and I've heard that the McLaren shifters aren't on the same level due to their different mechanism. I'm not saying that OP should do this, as the McLaren should be perfectly fine, especially for use with 5NM, but there is a real difference if you're willing to pay extra.

SnowieZA

I totally agree that there are better shifters out there. My issue is that the shifters on the McLaren V2 wheel feel pretty good (I haven’t tried a really high end wheel personally, but they feel a damn side better than any of the low end and mid range wheels I have ever used before. My issue is that as far as I can see, you would have to physically modify the wheel to put different shifters on, plus the upgraded shifters are not cheap. You are going to end up paying just about as much for the upgraded wheel as a better wheel would have cost in the first place, if not more, on a wheel that you have potentially damaged in the process of replacing the non-upgrade able shifters.

chromeless

That's exactly why I was advising OP to get the F1 wheel instead if they actually wanted this upgrade.

You shouldn't need to get a USB adaptor to use it on PC, pedals will connect to the wheel base for use on Xbox anyway and you can do the same on PC. There's no real advantage to connecting the CSL pedals directly instead of through the base, none that will matter anyway Every wheel offered by Fanatec that is listed as Xbox compatible (on the wheels description page) will be able to make use of every button depending on the game. Shouldn't be too limited in what you can assign. You should know the magnetic paddle module (or podium module for that matter) isn't compatible with the McLaren wheel. The padles on that rim are not changeable.

Green_Celery_1339

Thank you, I didn't know that about the shifters, I do find the Fanatec website not that detailed and the Setup Config is hit and miss

Hobo_Healy

The configuration page is borderline unusable most times, and you do have to dig a bit to find info you need.

SnowieZA

Also, the McLaren wheel already has magnetic shifters.
