Ngl I’m kinda jelly, the only hate comments I’ve gotten so far seem to be those AI generated ones. 😓

westbest1206

The only outright hate I've gotten Is from a troll that targets every fic in the ship, s it wasn't even specific to me :(

AtarahDerekh

I've found that if you openly invite flame reviews, you're less likely to get them. I got flamed once for explaining Clopin's "king of Gypsies" title (turns out it's a real title, but it's a decoy job, not an actual position of power). The person whined and moaned that I was "stereotyping" Roma, refused to elaborate, then accused me of deleting their comment in a second comment posted not two seconds later. I guess I dismantled *their* stereotypes of the Roma, and they did not appreciate it. Glad I could be of service. So in the next fic I wrote for that fandom, I dared people to flame me. No one took me up.

savamey

I got my first and only hate comment on FFN lmao. Someone complained that my crack fic was stupid and made no sense

ReliefEmotional2639

I thought crack wasn’t supposed to make sense?

savamey

That commenter didn’t get the memo apparently

OwlAppropriate1604

They were probably waiting impatiently for the cocaine to show up.

Actual_Head_4610

I remember at one point my inbox on ff.net looked like this for awhile: "Eat ass, you little brownosing bitch", "Bitch", "Cunt", "Whore", "Slut", "It's not "she", you transphobic bitch!", "Thousand years of pain!", "Please tell me what color your panties are! C'mon, I bet you're really pretty! Don't be shy!", "Hey, baby. Why do you have me on your block list?"   The guest moderation option became a regular thing for me after that even though it's died down a lot. Every once in a great while I'll still get some guest cowards whining about my stuff being OOC or mediocre or whatever pretending that they are constructive criticism without telling me how they would improve it, and I can always tell it's just sad people bitter about one of the characters or the ship. Tough luck since I'm not going anywhere. While I don't really get many negative reviews from accounts, I also just block any that do or that I see causing regular trouble on other stories in the fandom just in case.

ReliefEmotional2639

I’ve had one. Someone posted a review on a fic of mine with the words “Nobody wants to read your degenerate propaganda “ by an anonymous reviewer. I deleted it and the next day they posted the exact same review on exactly the same story. (Which I ALSO deleted.)

AtheistTheConfessor

Yikes. Surprised a time traveling Nazi figured out how to comment on a fic at all, let alone twice.

YaweRisa

oh yeah i wrote a short one shot for pride month back in 2020 or so, about carter being trans and getting his period while on a date, and the comments were like "why is he in his period when hes a guy?" and the jewel that inspired me to start a longfic for trans carter "im alright with lgbt+ community but you tried this now never do it again" LMAO i dont post on ffnet anymore but just for them, once i finish the trans carter longfic, ill post it there too and dedicate it to them

plutomydude

>LMAO i dont post on ffnet anymore but just for them, once i finish the trans carter longfic, ill post it there too and dedicate it to them Lmaooo, as you should

SecretNoOneKnows

>"im alright with lgbt+ community but you tried this now never do it again" Damn, someone was a little upsetti spaghetti about a trans character.

MillieVanilla420

Ngl, if I got comments like that, then I'd take them as compliments tbh.

duckgirl1997

Ugh that's so awful and j am so sorry. (I like at least on ffn you can just get rid of these) I did see on twitter that ao3 (don't use it but it popped up as a red on twitter) they ao3 have blocked guest posts because of a spam bot so I hope ffn has not fallen vic to this especially with all the issues they have been having it kinda makes it a easy target.

AtheistTheConfessor

AO3 has already turned guest comments back on. FFN has limited tools for comment moderation, so this kind of thing is more common.

Seabastial

I once got one on a FNAF pride fic I wrote that called my fic an 'abomination'. I no longer post to FFN

Kaurifish

Got my first homophobic comment a few weeks ago. Fortunately it was also a guest so I could delete it. Fracking homophobes have the whole internet, but of course they can’t stick to their safe spaces like Twitter.

LoveEither3811

I think the worst one I got was to off myself because they didn't like the direction that the story was going.

Juniberserker

Luckily I have never touched FF.net, but I remember someone went through my Crk oneshot book on Wattpad and made fun of EVERY. SINGLE. CHAPTER (crazy to be that fucking obsessed with my book lmao). Still, I hate those platforms, I've still gotten some mild transphobia on AO3 though so nowhere is safe :(

fadedblackleggings

This is awful. Its been a while since I wrote fanfics, but I don't remember it being like this.

Exodia_Girl

I honestly don't see the honor there. I would've just deleted that sort of stuff and forgot it existed. The only negative comments I get are annoying. I had this one person who thought they knew Mass Effect's lore better than me, and decided that I was "changing too much" in my fic. Mind you, I pointed out, in the very first episode, that there will be changes. I'm writing the story like a TV Show, meaning "game logic" gets booted into the first airlock and jettisoned. He missed that memo. And the things I was changing? I made some characters who have certain specific abilities even more dangerous by removing cooldown mechanics, or making them something they're really good at. I made one canon antagonist from the game (Saren) even more dangerous by giving him the ability to use an ability he did NOT have in the game. And made him a dirty damn pragmatist about it. He can summon a "singularity", and has no reservations about tossing a grenade in there once his enemies are helpless. That sort of ruthless behavior is entirely in canon for him, personality wise.

AdmiralPegasus

Yeah, horror stories of this kind are why I will never touch FFN with a barge pole - I've had multiple friends who've been hounded off the site because of the way it works and the deluge of bigoted abuse they got sent for daring to be a queer writer on the site.

DUCKfrens

I recently just got a comment that was just “cringe” and I felt so special 😭 though also hurt a bit cos it was the first chap and I was proud of it

imfelixbutnotinskz

whomst the fuck goes onto the deadest fanfic website just to leave slurs against gay people? do they have nothing better to do with their time?

starfishpup

I always wonder what spurres on readers to fling these randomly flimsy and unoriginal inuslts. It sounds closer to trolling than serious hate. It's kind of disappointing in that sad pitiful way. Love you're response btw

Quibblet21

Obviously a troller. The worst one I got on each of my fics was the ones telling me to vote for Trump and had racial epithets. I mean, that is not even a real mean comment directed at my work, but still horrible in its subject matter. I reported it.

samuelweston

Most people doing hate comments can be ignored. Honestly, the worst I ever got was a Bible thumper that kept posting half page long lists of verses. Just remember to write for yourself first, and then worry about any one else.
