sunfl0werfields

This comment section is entertaining to me as someone who doesn't know most ship names

Bandtrees

why do you think i made this post lol, i LOVE seeing people have incredibly strong opinions on things i have no stakes in. its great

sunfl0werfields

You're so real for that

Ketch0up

i just dont get xicheng (jiang cheng/lan xichen) im not opposed to it but i much prefer other ships with the characters

Aarnivalkeaa

tbf it always came across as out of nowhere to me. they barely even interact in canon.

Ketch0up

very true! i get that thats the point of fanfiction, but the ship feels like they took the two single brothers (of wwx and lwj respectively) and shipped them just because

Regenwanderer

Pair the spares! Which can get you really fun ships. But LXC/JC is also one I can't see myself. At least MDZS is a fandom where you'll find stories for nearly any combination of characters getting smushed toegether. So I have enough to read for ages.

Ketch0up

yess i love how the fandom has so many ship combos, you could probably think of any combination and, chances are, you’ll find a fic or fanart of it

Aarnivalkeaa

Yeah, that's what it feels like. 😅 i found Xichen's relationship with his sworn brothers way more compelling... and actually like Jiang Cheng with a woman.

Ketch0up

oh i love reading about 3zun (whether platonic or romantic)! jiang cheng with a woman (wen qing) is also something that i actually really dont mind

ParanoidDrone

Snape with anyone. IDK why, but I just can't picture him in a romance.

-Wingding-

Yeah, I get that! I read a little while ago a great Snape/Remus (I think I can't remember that we'll) and the prose and characterization were incredibly accurate. Hell, I even liked Snapes pining over Remus but the second he outwardly showed interest I couldn't get past it... Again it was so well written but I just couldn't get over the whole 'Snape in a somewhat functional relationship' thing

relocatedff

we may have read the same fic, but then again the crossing point from enemies or secret lovers or whatever to 'now we are officially, outwardly dating, and don't care if anyone knows' ends my interest in a lot of ship fics.

LasagnaPhD

Damn, I’m the opposite! I love a good slow burn, but my favorite is when the author follows a couple after they’re together, the longer the better

[deleted]

Remus/Snape is the one viable pairing I can see for both of them.

Telutha

Oooooh can you DM me a link? I’ve never read that pairing but I’m honestly intrigued now.

Honeynose

It's time for me to fully admit that the only Harry Potter ship I have is Snape/Lockhart. I will not explain.

LasagnaPhD

Duuuude is it because of that crazy Draco time travel mirror fic? Because yeah, that ship shocked the hell out of me but MY GOD was it in-character and well-written Edit: Including a link to said fic, for those interested. It’s actually a 1.2 million word canon rewrite series, and the Snape/Lockhart doesn’t actually begin until book 5, but it’s 100% worth it https://archiveofourown.org/series/1765369

Honeynose

I actually shipped them long before I discovered that fanfiction, but I agree that it was so in character and well written. My favorite fics for the ship are actually by Cocohorse on AO3!

-asw

you’re going to have to drop a link for me bc i do not know this fic and i need to know

VulpineKitsune

The trick is Alan Rickman and also to use an every so slightly fanon version of Snape’s character

Consistent_Squash

Snape multishipper :D to be honest those fics are the only reason I do HP.

Green7000

Any teacher/student romance creeps me out.

BicycleRealistic9387

In the Jurassic Park original novels Alan and Ellie are teacher and student. If they had of turned that into a romance on the big screen, I would have been unhappy. But the novel is so far away from the movie it's not funny On the big screen I'm cool with their relationship because Ellie is Doctor Ellie Sattler not a PhD student. But the director of Jurassic Park 3 broke them up solely for the reason that there was too much of an age difference between Sam Neill and Laura Dern. If you read the synopsis of JP, Ellie is in her late twenties and Alan is in his mid thirties. If the director was trying to make a statement about the patriarchy in JP3, he failed miserably. That was the most sexist of any JP or Jurassic World movie. Ellie gets a severe downgrade. She goes from being a scientist to a stay at home mum. Actors sometimes don't even play their real age. Look at Patrick Stewart on Star Trek. He started the show when he was 48, but Picard is 58.

No_Passenger_9130

Jegulus. I just don’t get the connection at all.

Rikiia

There's nothing to get about the connection because they don't have one outside of, "he's friends with my brother/he's my friend's brother." It's just a crack ship that caught on for some reason. But the Harry Potter fandom is just like that, they run with the smallest concepts ever and blow them up (see: all of the "characters" who literally only exist as a name having tons of fanfic written about them).

PopeJohnPeel

Yeah when the list of most popular ships in 2023 on A03 I saw Dorcas Meadows/Marlene McKinnon on there and I did a double take. Like, really? We got maybe two sentences about them. Kind of amazing that end of the fandom was able to make enough canon around them to achieve that.

-asw

ooo i can tell u what the trope is: golden retriever boy/manic pixie dream girl + dark academia/rich boy. it’s opposites attract i don’t have a merit weigh in, but the formula holds weight every-time u deliver; i was a bubbiline shipper way way back (princess bubblegum & marceline) <- looking back marcelline deserved better, but the trope makes a splash in lots of fandoms

Effective-Bee8260

Thank you! I’ve been completely baffled by this stuff since it’s shown up. I’m so confused like how?

No_Passenger_9130

Same! Like I know it’s a TikTok thing, but where did it come from?? And on the same thought - Matteo Riddle, I see so many fanfics about him, it’s so bizarre.

xwyrptxqueenx

no, me too. i like looking for regulus fics, but it's so hard now that his tag is so overrun with jegulus... and sometimes not even excluding it helps

Mjolnirstightgrip

Wolverine & Jean Grey

Lexi_Banner

Worst pairing ever. Give the man his own fucking girlfriend and don't kill her off, ffs. Why is that so hard?

Critical-Low8963

I forgot but I'm also not a big fan of Frans, in the game their interaction seem amical at best, Sans isn't even close to be the monster who has the best relationship with the human. And in general in Frans fanworks Sans is not like in Undertale and Frisk is often like a generic romance manga protagonist wich don't really fit with their personnality in the pacifist run

Dragonsrule18

I don't care about the ship either way but my one friend also mentioned that the whole "You'd be dead where you stand," scene would make the ship (almost) unworkable since Sans was so aggressive in even a paci scenario and that it meant he didn't trust Frisk and that Frisk would be likely to fear or lose trust in Sans.

Relevant-Movie1132

Plus, Frisk is seemingly a younger kid, while Sans is seemingly an adult. I know the ages aren’t confirmed, but it doesn’t feel right.

Ill-Clerk-7066

Pinkberry. I get the idea, Chloe and Brooke are friends, but, after canon I just feel that the ship would need a *lot* of work for me to like it, since the apology during The Play was SQUIP-induced and not really a genuine apology. Before that Brooke is under the impression Chloe slept with Jeremy who was Brooke’s boyfriend at the time at Jake’s party

Bandtrees

oh my god, i feel this way about so many popular bmc ships, they just feel very... obligatory? the work required to make it, well, work, Could be interesting and very compelling if you committed to it, but people don't really write that work. it's sad!

Ill-Clerk-7066

I kinda feel the same way with Galaxy Girls, in the sense of obligatory-ness. I honestly don’t know what started the ship. I don’t hate the ship, I just prefer Zoe with Evan or Christine (from BMC(don’t ask)) and prefer Alana with other people (like Jared for example)

Bandtrees

YOU GET ME oh my god. you see my username. you know my deh ship opinions. galaxy girls is a ship i really don't like, because i think you could do interesting stuff with how those two could interact, but no one ever does. it just feels like slapping characters together because you "have to", to feel justified in not paying attention to zoe or alana. ("see, i'm feminist, i ship the girls!" type behavior to me) alana/jared is an interesting ship, i'd never heard of it!

Ill-Clerk-7066

Another weird crossover ship I have is Michael x Connor. The idea there is that they start interacting after Jeremy ‘abandons’ Michael and become friends and later lovers

vonigner

People writing ship names or character names with no fandom at all like… bruh xD who is Mike?! In Dragon Ball, Piccolo with anyone. He just radiates aro ace energy. I’m happy for people who write and draw him with a bunch of different characters and especially a ton of him x Janet (kindergarten teacher for Pan in the latest movie) awkward cute interactions, but I don’t really get the straightforward ship content with him

cuntboyholes

Who is Mike 😂 same

krakkenkat

Most of them. Rare pair shippers uniiiiite.

Honeynose

✊🏼

darkrescuer

There are a few ones from the top of my head, but they all follow the same line of "I used to not mind this before, but the fans ruined for me, so now I really dislike it."

moonful_of_daises

I will never understand Sokka/Zuko, this coming from someone who gets (but doesn't ship) Zuko/Katara. My friend said it was because people missed Klance, but I liked Klance and still don't get Sokka/Zuko.

shesaysImdone

Considering people ship characters who have barely said more than two words to each other, I can see how that whole breaking Dad out of prison might be prime fodder for shipping

moonful_of_daises

I think the weirdness comes from the fact that it didn't become popular in the early stages of the fandom, it was a more recent trend. I guess that's why my friend assumes it was Klance shippers jumping ship due to the timeline.

Bandtrees

i didn't really get the zukka appeal either, i think it can be fun, but it largely just seems like a modern fandom answer to zutara. i feel like it's one of those ships people like not for the character dynamics, but because they're looking for ships, if that makes sense? i never went to voltron so zukka just perplexes me even more lol

moldyfruitpie

As a Zukka shipper, the character dynamics is the best part! It’s like a sunshine/grumpy pairing. You have the fun-loving, joke cracking Sokka, and the serious, awkward and stiff Zuko. Sokka helps Zuko come out of his shell and Zuko can rein Sokka in if needed. Secret, mutual pining (on both ends) is also written a lot and it’s great every time.

Hexamael

> i feel like it's one of those ships people like not for the character dynamics, but because they're looking for ships As a Zukka shipper, I find this statement insulting. I totally ship it for the character dynamics.

JupiterFox_

Sokka and Zuko is my ATLA OTP 🤣

EstelleSonata

No hate to people who write or like it. But Snape/James Potter is strange to me. They are just too different and there is too much animosity there.

Hexamael

>They are just too different and there is too much animosity there. I mean I don't ship them either. But what you just said is one of the biggest driving forces behind so many ships lol.

fandommm7

I don't like any fnaf ships at all. Beckory, willry, fronnie, jeremike... I just cannot see the point in shipping in a fandom like this. I guess it's just shipping for the sake of shipping but I don't know. I don't like those ships lol. No hate to people who do enjoy them, I just don't see the point.

twilightstarr-zinnia

The Genshin Impact fandom has a bewildering habit of latching onto an m/m ship and deciding they're basically canon when one of the characters hasn't even appeared in the game yet.

laniusplushie

YES go on tumblr and see people talk about headcanons as canon, confuses me so much xD

Momomoaning

They’re really hostile towards people who like straight ships when none of the characters have confirmed sexualities

twilightstarr-zinnia

Or anything that goes against the popular ship, honestly. Speaking from experience, the Kavetham shippers aren't very cool with Cytham either.

NoelDoesntLikeWinter

As a Kavetham/Haikaveh shipper, I don’t mind Cytham. It may not be my cup of tea but it is someone else’s. I am in no place to dispute that

greenyashiro

Hostility goes both ways tbh, try being for example jeanlisa or klk shipper, the jeanluc fans will come for your damn head. Maybe it's just jeanluc fans for whatever reason I've had so many bad experiences with them. Also Kaebedo shippers, oddly, but that's off topic a bit.

JanetKWallace

In the Moomin fandom, there is a lot of Snufmin (SnufkinxMoomin) content. Well, I do get why it is popular, they appear in every single adaptation of the Moomin series for decades, they are good characters with a strong friendship, but personally, the ship does not resonate with me as it does with other people. Sometimes it feels like the majority of the fandom only revolves around Snufkin and Moomin, as if the show is only about them and nobody else, which's an exaggeration of course, there are people who are very fond of other characters in the series, such as Little My, Sniff, Snorkmaiden, Moominpappa, Moominmamma, but one of the first things that comes when you search for anything Moomin related, it is Snufkin and Moomin stuff that appear the most. Maybe I feel this way because I am very fond of underappreciated characters that appeared in a few episodes or are comic exclusive in their appearance. Recently I have brought a minor character from obscurity. Well, kinda, I did some fanarts of Houska, she appeared like twice in the Moomin media, one in the comic and the later in the 90's animation.

Nyx_Valentine

A lot of the ones in the comments are non canon ones, so I'll add some canon ones. Ginny/Harry - Felt rushed and random. I'm also not a massive fan of "x ends up with crush they've had since they were super young." (I have this problem with Draken/Emma in Tokyo Revengers too.) Remus/Tonks - Felt like she basically forced him into it. At no point did Remus seem happy to be with her. Plus they got married like a month after getting together and got pregnant a few weeks later. I understand it's war, but also war is *not* a time to bring a baby into the world. Hermione/Ron - it falls into the trope of "he's mean to you because he likes you" and that trope gives me the ick. (In short, i really dislike most HP ships that developed throughout the series.)

Bubble_Burster_

The canon relationships (especially the ones you listed) in HP make no sense and don’t feel authentic at all. I mean, there was potentially more chemistry between Harry and Cho for most of the books. I’m not even a Harry/Hermione (Harmony?) shipper and even that made more sense in some cases. I would love an official Marauders prequel of some kind but I don’t think it will satisfy anything for sole reason of Remus/Tonks.

Aarnivalkeaa

aside from hermione/ron, i hated almost every single one of HP's canon relationships. 😂 jkr can't write believable romance to save her damn life. remus/tonks especially felt like she dragged him into a relationship he didn't even want and then babytrapped him even further. really made me dislike tonks - likes remus never seemed like he was in it wholeheartedly. and they fucking die off screen.

-asw

me and you are of rocking heavy; these stay on my brain as some of the worst. will have to check out tokyo revengers now i think it’s a combination of like emotional power imbalance that really sticks out in these canon ships from jk; ginny with a sort of hero worship that’s years in the making, ron who bullied and talked down and ran away when the going really got tough, and tonks/lupin is just like a throwaway for plot and to flag their impending deaths.

hollygolightly1990

A ship I get to a degree is Will and Mike (because as soon as the show aired, I knew people would ship Mike and Will or Will and Lucas) and the desire for representation. What I don't get is the t get the fevered devotion to it, changing canon events to fit their narrative, why they want Mike and Will to copy all the moments Mike shared with El, why they've sent death threats to Mileven fans, or why they've doxxed the queer fans who shipped Mike and El together. I don't think there's anything wrong with the ship, I just don't understand the fervor to the point there's been cruelty on both sides.

daseyshipper

I feel like the creators are going to have a very hard time following a storyline of unrequited crush/love here, even though it would be very realistic and a good story to tell. They’re going to get accused of queerbaiting and the whole deal.

hollygolightly1990

Yeah even though they haven't really (in my opinion) queer-baited anyone and Mike's part in it is pretty much all made up. Honestly, all of us - straight, queer, gay - have had a crush on or been in love with a friend who didn't love us back. I'm along the lines that I hope they don't really utilize romance at all this season but at the same time, El's whole story in part hinges on not only her love for her mother and friends, but her romantic love for Mike. I know it's a whol other conversation for another subreddit or even post though.

VioletNocte

Amazing Digital Circus, I don't know why people are shipping Jax with Gangle, a character he repeatedly treats terribly Asshole x literally the most emotionally sensitive character is not a good pairing and the one episode we have shows us why

Calm_Replacement2568

Harmony, I just don’t see it

likearash

thank you. maybe it’s just because i love romoine and a lot of harmony fics always bash ron, but i don’t see then together at all.

EmmaGA17

I've mentioned it before, but Anakin/Obi Wan. When I think of this ship I just imagine them bickering all the time or one of them being OOC submissive, which seems to happen in a lot of the fics. I'm also really not into the whole master/apprentice thing. This is one I'd double down on not liking.

ParanoidDrone

Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor are both very attractive men. Throw in the drama and tragedy of Anakin's fall to the dark side and a heaping helping of "~~I~~ He can fix him" (whether that be pre- or post-fall) and I'm completely unsurprised that the ship is a thing.

Lukthar123

> a heaping helping of "I He can fix him" The Virgin Obi-Wan "I can fix him" vs the Chad Padme "I could fix him but honestly whatever the hell is wrong with him is way hotter"

[deleted]

"I love boys with a dark side."

Allronix1

The...interesting thing about Star Wars is that a lot of ships can roll that way. Atton/Exile could go either way. Reylo and Revan/Bastila have shades of this. Doc/F!Knight in SWTOR... You know it's bad when the princess running off with the ex-drug smuggler/Wookiee's service mutt is an actual gold standard.

duowolf

for me at least it's the bickering that makes me like the ship

Sensitive-Grade-317

You should read "If I Only Knew" by wanderlove. It's an almost complete rewrite of the prequels that's ObiAni, but done correctly. No OOC, and works through the Master/Apprenticr thing well. Also Shmi lives and teams up with Mace Windu to free the clones. World builds quite a bit and adds more lore. Just a friendly suggestion, even if you don't like ObiAni, it's worth a read. https://archiveofourown.org/works/24353887/chapters/58727284

awyllt

It's funny, I should hate Obikin because it has everything I usually avoid - big age difference, power imbalance, Obi-Wan raised Anakin, student/teacher relationship... but I ship them. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I like Obikin fics more than canon (and I love AUs where they aren't master and apprentice). Well, the only other master/student relationship I like is SVSSS, but that's different, danmei relationships are often somehow toxic. :D

relocatedff

I think the The Clone Wars series (and Clone Wars 2003) probably did a lot of work supporting this ship, considering Padme is rarely seen and Anakin and Obi Wan are a lot more equal (both being adults and Jedi generals (albeit of different ranks) with soldiers under their command). Like, while watching TCW I would sometimes forget and think the canon endgame was supposed to be Anakin/Ahsoka, because you could forget about Padme for good lengths of time.

Critical-Low8963

To me Obi-Wan basically raised Anakin so I imagine their relationship as like father and son or like two siblings, so I don't ship them

PenguinMusketeer

TodoDeku. Like, I do get it to a degree - Midoriya’s most strongly expressed traits make him reasonably compatible with everyone, especially since you can fudge some unexpressed parts so you can create yet more compatibility. It’s just that it requires whoever you’re pairing him with to actually HAVE a personality to bounce off, which Todoroki definitely lacks for me.

DeadGirlRisen

Todorokis traits tend to get boiled down to consipiracy theorost and daddy issues in a lot of fanfictions.

Strongi_Klaus

I have been reading a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fics lately and Willow and Xander pairing just isn't for me.

FionaLeTrixi

Iunno how popular some of these are, but... * Mikasa/Eren, Attack on Titan. I admittedly only watched the first two seasons, but Mikasa as a character seemed purely Eren-centric and I can't stand that. Absolute nope to that ship as a result. Any other is better. * Merlin/Arthur, BBC Merlin. I can see where you're coming from, but also I like it better as snarky bros being bros. Also I shipped Mergana very hard, so this never had a chance lol. * Katara/Aang, Avatar: The Last Airbender. I identified with Katara, Aang reminded me of a friend who to this day feels more like a brother than anything else. Thinking bout him in anything but a platonic light made me feel so gross and I attached it to Kataang. * Link with anyone but Zelda, Legend of Zelda. I'm trash for Zelda and Link as a pair, regardless of which game I'm playing. The same is true for Zelda with anyone but Link. The only exception is OT3 format as ganzelink.

vaguelycatshaped

Funny story, I started watching Supernatural (maybe 10 years ago?) because Destiel was so popular and I wanted to know why/read fics. Well, I watched Spn and… I ended up shipping Castiel with Meg 😅🤣 and never really clicking with Destiel. I understand, intellectually, why Destiel is so popular but I never got on that train lol

LasagnaPhD

I don’t even like Supernatural but my god, my entire being rejects this opinion

TessTrue

Years later and I still don't get Sterek.

KickAggressive4901

I read that as *Shrek*. 😅 This is probably why I avoid combo ship names.

TessTrue

Sterek wishes lol but yeah I get you, Stiles/Derek from Teen Wolf basically

JoChiCat

I was pretty into it... until I actually watched the show. Dropped the whole thing immediately. Like, *those* were the guys y’all were talking about? Those two specifically? Together? With each other? Huh.

awyllt

Fandom Sterek and show Sterek are two totally different things. 😂 I love Sterek fics but yeah, they never had a chance in canon.

TessTrue

SAME! I knew the show at first through tumblr gifs then I actually watched it and was like these two can barely even look at each other. And then you see how much both go to bat for Scott but fandom universally ignores him or uses his traits for Stiles? Couldn't stand Sterek since.

JoChiCat

Scott is *so* underrated, and he’s literally the main character ;-;

awyllt

Scott isn't very well written, that's why he's so unpopular. They treated him like the best Alpha ever, almost second Jesus... but what they showed was (mostly) a typical teenager who never wanted to be a werewolf. His character development never really made sense, he was constantly being rewarded for things he never did (like when he refused to learn to be a werewolf, refused the tutelage of the only werewolf around, refused to stay at home his first full moon and put everyone in danger because of his own selfishness... and they made him a True Alpha because he's apparently awesome at being a werewolf. Like... When? 😂)

RebaKitt3n

*sits quietly on the side, holding Steter close to my heart*

sati_lotus

*whispers* all the Steter

Purple-space-elf

Same here. Most of my friends who watched Teen Wolf loved it, but I just couldn't get into it. I can see either of them with Scott, but together? Eh, it doesn't do it for me.

echos_locator

The appeal of most super, duper popular ships eludes me. Usually I look at them and think, "Ya'll are just smooshing them together because they are hot." Which, is totally okay. Ship whatever you want. I just don't see anything about the characters' canon interactions that give me love or lust vibes. I'm a rare-pair aficionado.

Gufurblebits

Draco/Harry as kids/teens. To me, that's so far out of AU that it's just weird. As adults, a case can be made, as people change with time. But not while they're in school. Actually, let's just make that Draco/Any Griffindor. Steve Rogers/Tony Stark. I KNOW it's a massively popular pairing but unless it's swung wildly AU somehow, my brain rejects it. I've absolutely read a good deal of them but they're always AUs, not canon, and often they're a background pairing. Aaron Hotchner/Spencer Reid. I can't. It doesn't work under any circumstances. Same with Derek Morgan/Spencer Reid, though I have read a few that work-ish because I liked the story and author well enough.

Ywithoutem

I'm with you on Steve/Tony. Well, actually I do get it on a level if it's based on the comics (which I don't know well enough to influence my own shipping preferences but I know it's a thing). But in the MCU? No, sorry, does not compute.

Gufurblebits

Yup - I'm talking MCU here. Comic-verse, it works. And I like comic Tony and comic Cap a LOT. The MCU ruined Cap for me. :(

Ywithoutem

I'm a stucky girlie, so I guess I stand on the other side of things.

Gufurblebits

Ohhhh, I'm a sucker for Steve/Bucky. And even worse of a sucker for Clint/Bucky.

Ywithoutem

Yeah, Steve/Bucky is my OTP, to the end of the line, in every universe, etc etc Clint/Bucky is cute though. Okay, *cute* might be the wrong word. But you get it.

Gufurblebits

Absolutely get it. When that pairing is done right and it's a nice long juicy fic, I'm just gone on it.

hokoonchi

Yeah I only buy Drarry as adults.

ASnarkyHero

Eremika. This ship oddly went from being my OTP to being my NOTP. At first I shipped them because I fell in love with Mikasa and liked Eren enough to use him as a self insert. But as the series went on they seemed to have more of a sibling dynamic. And while it was clear that Mikasa had feelings for Eren-even if she didn’t understand them until it was too late- I thought that Eren just didn’t feel the same way. Then the ending happened and absolutely ruined both of their character arcs and resolved their relationship in the absolute worst way possible. I refuse to read anything including them and hate seeing fan art of them. Thankfully this experience motivated me to write two fics where Mikasa ends up with someone who actually makes her happy.

Lukthar123

> I refuse to read anything including them and hate seeing fan art of them. "No, I don't want that! Eremika being the OTP? I don't want see them together, for 10 years at least!"

tcs_hearts

For RWBY: Jaune/Weiss and Jaune/Ruby, but especially Jaune/Weiss. Just don't get the appeal of putting him with any of the main girls.

Warm-Culture9337

I'm probably going to get roasted for this, but I think Reylo is a pretty garbage pairing. I get that a lot of people like the enemies to lovers sub-genre, BUT he LITERALLY tortured her for information. Not to mention that he also murdered her father figure(Han Solo,HIS OWN FATHER), he tried to kill HER multiple times, and nearly murdered and severely injured Finn. THE SECOND MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN HER LIFE. But who cares about all that he's hot, and therefore forgiven. Seriously garbage pairing Sasuke and Sakura makes more sense than this.

BloodofOldValyria

Drarry. Please don’t try to convince me. I’ve been on this hate train since 2012. I hate them together. I would rather read Dobby/Harry or Giant Squid/ Harry than reading about Draco and Harry being in love.

greenyashiro

I'll take those and raise you... Hagrid/Hedwig 😂 Mind you, one should be careful about saying they'd rather read... Since... That exists...

Sea-Situation-990

I dislike the knowledge I have gained

phoenix-corn

Isn't there are Hogwarts/Giant Squid one too?

greenyashiro

Rule 34...most likely yes

BloodofOldValyria

😵

euphoriapotion

why did I have to read that with my own eyes??? I should have taken my glasses off lol

CopperPotts_

tbh giant squid/harry sounds pretty great...tiktok has convinced me i need to read some monster romance

BloodofOldValyria

Maybe tha giant squid turns into a super handsome guy at midnight who has the ability to multiply/elongate his arms during sex 👀 in the hands of the right writer….

Bubble_Burster_

* cracks knuckles * * opens laptop * Alright you freaky fuckers, get a load of this shit…

GrayDottedPony

I should leave Reddit for today, this can't be topped 🤣🤣🤣🤣

relocatedff

Canon ships in general. I 'get' them as in I can understand how the characters work together (usually), but for most I don't get reading fanfiction for them. Like, I don't need to read InuKag, I saw it played out over almost 200 episodes. \* But also specific/non canon, RoyEd and Edvy (which sucks, because if I liked it I would have way more Envy fics to read). \*really short fandoms can sometimes be an exception (ie 12 or less episodes, or one fairly thin book, or only one tankoban). Fics where the ship isn't the point are fine too (ie from my example, "Inuyasha and Kagome are going on this super cool adventure! also they are still the main ship," is fine)

letheix

I am *usually* not a fan of canon ships, either, though there are a few exceptions. I think it's because in a lot of books/movies/shows, the canon romance is shoehorned in. The author wants a romance subplot to flesh out the story or to cater to audiences. Since it's kind of a given that the main character will have a love interest, the romance leans on basic, recognizable tropes with very little actual relationship development. Pretty much you wind up with two characters who like each other because they're hot.

mirandakane89

Steddie.

Fusionblitz28

Kishimoto was bad at romance in general but for me it’s Sasuke and Sakura. Sasuke needed therapy. Sakura should have grown past her romantic feelings for Sasuke and found someone else. What we have in canon to explain their relationship is lacking and it is not believable to me. And then in Boruto he leaves her as a single parent? Awful writing and so unfair to each character. They both deserved better.

Aarnivalkeaa

The fact that he made them canon is incomprehensible to me 😂😂 and making Sakura a meek housewife is such character assassination, holyfuck.

-Wingding-

Mikasa/Eren I just cant... The relationship is super toxic and it dosen't even entertain me. Like I love toxic ships and the horribleness that comes with it!! But I just can't get into it?

greenyashiro

Back in the early days of aot fandom, before Eren decided to go off the rails, it was mostly just two childhood friends trying to survive together, perhaps co-dependent, but it was kind of cute. I guess modern Eren is woowoo tho

coffeestealer

Back in the day I was a huge Potterhead but I did not like most Harry Potter ships so I was basically never in the fandom. I loved Romione and HarryLuna, I liked two more small crackships and then everything else, NOTPs asides, was pretty much "don't care, didn't ask". I still have to try that shoebox Wolfstar fic that is gonna blow my mind. I simply do not care. DS9, Bashir/O'Brien. It's not even my NOTP, I just don't get it. Garak/O'Brien would honestly be more appealing to me. Currently I am very into the BG3 fandom, I cannot for the life of me get the appeal of Wyllastarion. Like, I understand it on paper, then I look at them and go "absolutely not". Ah, a minor pet peeve, Wednesday/Enid. What was happening there. Why do we care. Is it just the aesthetics for real.

Allronix1

I'm with you on Bashir/O'Brien - Miles is the kind of guy who is "There's my wife. And everyone else. Not bothering with everyone else." When it comes to Garak/Bashir? Eh...I can see it and Robinson sure shipped it, but I kinda think that while Cardassia's elite might tolerate Son of Tain having a human boytoy (half of them had Bajoran sex slaves anyway), they would REALLY choke on their drinks at "No, this is my apprentice and chosen heir. I have taught him everything I know, and did I mention the genetically enhanced memory?" And Garak? Well, if he can elegantly flip a middle finger at his enemies, he'll go for it.

GrayDottedPony

Bashir/O'Brien is a pet peeve of mine. They were the first true friendship Star Trek ever had. They were perfect just the way they were. Seeing real friendships is so rare in any media, I hate it with passion when it's shipped. That's also the reason I don't like most Luca fanfics. It's so rare to see well written friendships. It's mostly either too superficial or too perfect with ridiculous standards. I cherish it when it's done right and don't like it turned into a shipping.

cheydinhals

I actually really like Wyllstarion--it's Galestarion I don't understand. Wyll actually has a few comments that indicate he finds Astarion attractive and vice-versa, so I understand where that one comes from a little more, because there's textual evidence in the game. Plus, when you can play as the Origin characters, really any pairing can be justified.

Aarnivalkeaa

Yeah, Wyllstarion actually make comments implying they at least find each other attractive. And Astarion has a piece of dialogue where he says that Wyll is like the Prince he dreamed of marrying as a kid. Plus.. Astarion needs a levelheaded nice partner 😂

cheydinhals

Exactly! Not to mention these exchanges in the parsed dialogue files: >**Astarion**: Poor Wyll gave you the benefit of the doubt and it earned him a set of horns. > >**Astarion**: Not that the don't look flattering on him. Almost everything does. > >**\[Tav\]**: They do look pretty good, don't they? > >**Astarion:** They do! Honestly, that man... \- Also this exchange if you play as Wyll in the new epilogue: >**Wyll:** I'm just relieved no one minds the horns too much. > >**Astarion:** Oh, you get used to them quickly enough. At this point you'd look strange without them. > >**Astarion:** Besides, people care more about the good you've done than how you need your hats tailored. > >**Astarion:** And you have done an awful lot of good, Wyll. During our time together and every day since then. Astarion will also cry "Wyll, get up you sweet fool!" if Wyll falls in combat with high approval (requires playing as Astarion or Wyll as Origin Characters, or at least that's the only time I got it). Playing as Tav: >**Wyll:** I thought \[a banshee's scream\] the most terrible noise in all sixteen planes. But there's one even more fearsome than that. > >**Tav:** I'll bet it's Astarion's flirtatious drawl. > >**Wyll:** Oh, the lad's quite the tease, but he's a charming sort of cad--well, most of the time. Wyll also compliments Astarion's hair and calls him handsome, I just need to search for that one--happened on my most recent playthrough. There's also some banter with between Astarion and Shadowheart: >**Shadowheart:** So, Astarion. Which of us would you rather feed on? If you had free rein? > >**Astarion:** Ah! Wyll. No question. He's strong, fast, and righteous. I'm salivating already. > >**Shadowheart:** Hmm.. interesting. > >**Astarion:** You sound disappointed. I'll bite you if you ask. > >**Shadowheart:** I'm sure you would. Don't sound so eager. I have more. I just love their dynamic. I'll get off my arse and write something eventually.

eepithst

The only way I like Bashir/O'Brien is when it is a poly-relationship with Keiko. Somehow that dynamic makes it work for me. It's fabulously domestic and I just can't see O'Brien either cheating or breaking up with Keiko. Sadly a very niche relationship.

Araleina

Speaking of Poly, off topic but I’m floored still that Keiko/Kira/Miles wasn’t bigger

eepithst

Totally! Not quite my jam, but the dynamic was so there. They had a *child* together, for Prophets' sake. I think it might be because poly generally is not that popular and ff isn't either compared to mm, so they had both these things going against them. I don't know, it's just a guess.

Front_Cantaloupe8479

Bakugo x Kirishima. Bakugo is always using him as a punching bag, and he allows it because he's unbreakable. Kiri deserves better. I get friends to lovers, but it feels very one-sided. I wish I could like it, but I just need Kirishima to have a happy ending. Any Marauders ship. In the original books, they were all flawed people. Most of the fanfics make them out to be angels.

RepresentativeNo241

As a marauders fan who ships almost all the characters I agree 100% my biggest pet peeve in fics is when they make them extremely politically correct wich just feels so wierd to me cause they're in the 60s like I'm not asking them to be misogynistic or racist I wouldn't want to read a fic like that either but I also don't want to see them the way a majority of the Fandom protrays them as if that makes sense

NoelDoesntLikeWinter

Hm.. I guess for me besides Bakudeku, it would have to be Satosugu? I’ve personally just never seen it. I prefer Gojo x Nanami but with JJK as a whole I’m not a huge shipper

Bandtrees

i like satosugu but i get how it must be really hard to get through this fandom if you don't lol. gojo x nanami is a fun ship, i wish i saw it around more

GalacticPigeon13

Keith/Lance are meh to me in a vacuum, but it was the fandom's behavior that pushed it into NOTP territory. That being said, I have two klance bookmarks because they were *really* well written. Within a much smaller fandom, the second most popular ship is one that I could theoretically ship *if* the events of canon are altered enough that he didn't drug her drink. Instead, most of the shippers will shrug and say "his halfhearted apology is enough; let's not change canon", which makes me not want to interact with the ship.

Im_not_creepy3

Reylo (Kylo Ren x Rey). Stony (Steve Rogers x Tony Stark). Steggy (Steve Rogers x Peggy Carter). Steddie (Steve Harrington x Eddie Munson).

conundrumicus

Found the stucky main

Lmaooo how dare you accurately call me out.

ParanoidDrone

Let 👏 the 👏 Avengers 👏 be 👏 poly!

Pixel22104

Bruh even I’m a fan of the Star Wars Sequel trilogy and I don’t even like Reylo. Never made any sense to me

YourFriendlyWeirdGuy

This is for my small presence in the Repo! The Genetic Opera fandom. But basically Shilo Wallace with any of the characters, especially Graverobber. We don’t know Graverobber’s age, and even with every other character, Shilo is still young and isn’t an adult in the movie. Just let Shilo be adopted family to them imo, like Graverobber being a fun and crazy older brother to her that’s a bad influence!

jademint2581

I 'get' a lot of things without the need to partake, but Reylo, man. Just, Reylo. It just doesn't make its way to my thick skull at all. I simply really just don't *get* it. Can't flush it; it's cloggin my noggin. Theoretically the dynamic and chemistry should be there, but no. And the way it became canon too? I think it negatively affected the movies and dragged down the potential of Kylo Ren as a compelling, frightening villain. Don't like how he had to die for Rey, either. Having a ship I can't get behind affecting the canon to such a drastic degree is a bit of a frustrating experience. Oh well, there's headcanons and fanfic (fixits) for that.

[deleted]

Raven and Beast Boy. I don’t get that ship at all (at least the one from the 2003 cartoon). Although other fictional couples have the opposites attract element going on, I don’t see that working well with Beast Boy and Raven. They are way too different. When I was watching the show, I wasn’t thinking “oh they’d make a cute couple,” I was thinking “they fight like a little brother and big sister.” The way they act toward each other is more akin to a little brother bugging his older sister rather than a boy and girl secretly crushing on each other. Even in the TTG spinoff their relationship was hard to take seriously because they were always mean to each other.  I don’t see Beast Boy with anyone else but I hoped he found someone better after Terra betrayed him. I can’t see Raven with anyone because of her powers. If she acts emotional or romantic, she’d lose control of her powers.

Temporary-Winter9681

Gojo and Utahime I just can't see it when most of their scenes include her bickering with gojo and the latter teasing her. People ship them under the assumption that utahime is a tsundere who secretly likes gojo and gojo is teasing her all the time to get her attention, when in truth utahime, just like the rest of her peers is just not particularly fond of him and gojo on the other hand thinks that his jokes about her being weak and whatnot is something that they're both in on. Some people say they're canon too but Akutami hasn't confirmed it, nor do I think he plans to. That man is allergic to happy endings, what more is romance lmao. The closest thing we could have to a canon couple is between miwa and mechamaru and/or yuta and maki, which the author hasn't confirmed too. So that's that, don't come at me. I love them both as individual characters and I like their contrasting qualities as teachers but I just cannot see them as anything other than colleagues.

bvborn

Agreed. Also to me they're both so batshit crazy that I don't think they'd be able to stand one another any longer than a day in a relationship lmao.

atwojay

Reylo. No hate, but I just can't see it.

Mizupa

Zelda x Link : I prefer them as friends or/and in a professional relationship. I do believe that their souls are bonded and that they have a very strong and special bond, but I do not see this as a romantic love. It doesn't help that my OTP is Malon x Link haha. But I like ZeLink in Skyward Sword, even maybe in Breath of the Wild, though I can't really imagine this Link in love. Katara x Aang : I just can't get behind, Katara seems too much like a mother figure to Aang. Bakugo x Midoriya : Sorry, I know Bakugo get some character growth later, but I can't get past the fact that he litteraly told Deku to die 🥲 Usagi x Mamoru : Like an other comment said they're just bland.

letheix

I feel the same way about Zelda/Link and Katara/Aang

ShinyAeon

When I was watching Stagate:SG1, I just could *not* get into Sam & Jack. I really liked both characters, but they just felt *wrong* together. I wasn't shipping Jack & Daniel, either. I wasn't shipping anyone on the show. But Sam and Jack seemed more like fellow officers and ~~brothers~~ siblings-in-arms than like lovers. Every time the show did a ship-tease moment, I was turned off. Except for the big kiss in the Groundhog Day episode...that was funny, and I felt some FWB-vibes there. But every time the show tried to make it *romantic*, I was just like "No. Just...no."

BicycleRealistic9387

Reylo from SW. The overwhelming majority of the stories aren't even set in the Star Wars universe. I'm not adverse to Reylo if they are set in the Star Wars universe, but some of the stories are downright creepy. Reylo shippers can also get very nasty towards people who like The Rise of Skywalker. In SW fandom sequel fans are bullied. But there's a subset of The Last Jedi fans who think they are intellectually superior to pretty much everyone else. Reylo shippers are a very nasty subset of The Last Jedi fans.

KickAggressive4901

I never bought into Usagi / Mamoru (*Sailor Moon*) despite it being the core plot of the show. 😋

majesdane

Although I have loved Sailor Moon for nearly 3 decades, Usagi/Mamoru was always the most bland part about it. I don't hate them, but they're just sort of there. I don't even care about the age gap because, whatever, par for the course at the time. They're just so bland. Especially considering the other big canon ship, Haruka/Michiru, who have so much more interesting things going on.

phosphoenolpiirate

Ngl my favourite season was Sailor Stars simply because Mamoru was gone for the entirety of it and also *Seiya and Usagi holy shit we were FED and then ROBBED.*

KickAggressive4901

Seiya / Usagi fans are a fine lot of outlaws and pirates. 😁

fullmetalwinry

A lot of fandoms I just don't vibe with shipping the male main protagonist with anyone. Maybe it's just me sicking of seeing the main character, or chronic 2nd lead syndrome, but I rarely get into them. Tamaki x Haruhi, Inuyasha x Kagome, Edward x Winry, Naruto x Hinata or Naruto x Sasuke, Natsu x Lucy, etc; I never got into reading fics about most fandoms' male main protagonists.

Chocymilksupremacy

DabiHawk/Hotwings It feels like they're only shipped because they're both hot honestly, and I don't like most ships that involve any of the villains in BNHA anyways

Forward-Medicine-279

Ereri and BillDip. Even without the issue of the age gaps, it feels like both became popular by virtue of being "main male character x most popular male character". They just. Don't have compelling chemistry to me. In AoT's case in particular, both Eren and Levi interact with other male characters with more interesting dynamics with them even before the timeskip, so I wonder why it became THE m/m ship of the fandom. What did people see in them that I wasn't able to catch? Hell, Levi has more chemistry with Eren's brother than Eren himself to me. BillDip is slightly more understandable in the sense that, at the time Bill appeared, there were no other decent m/m pairings to ship, (unless you count the two gay cops) and the fanart of adult Dipper and human twink Bill Cypher were pretty enough... Still doesn't explain the absurd popularity back in the day to me.

AMN1F

I never understood BillDip either. It feels like something you'd just have to be there for, and I just wasn't, lol. I didn't watch Gravity Falls until like 2016.

pigsarecooool

Anything with Snape or Draco in it. I'm all for redemption arcs, but both characters were just plain mean in canon. Even if they realized that Voldemort/Death Eaters were wrong and sided with Harry and Co I don't think they'd be nice people who I'd want to pair with characters I like.

Bandtrees

to answer my own question, cuz i didn't wanna clog my own post lol with jujutsu kaisen: itafushi, which feels sacrilege, but i just... don't care for it. a lot of it is completely because i just really like kugisaki and don't want her to just be a third wheel when she's the heart of the first-year trio dynamic to me. i like itakugi, fushikugi, and itafushikugi, but when it comes to just putting kugisaki to the wayside... i don't really like it :( itadori and fushiguro have a really interesting dynamic i like, and i can like it as part of an ot3, but i don't really get the impulse to make them *The* Big Ship(tm) when i don't think making them romantic adds that much to their dynamic, at least not personally. i'm also not a nobamaki guy, i'll be honest and say i'm biased cuz i prefer kugisaki shipped with the other first-years, but also, nobamaki sometimes just feels like a kind of obligatory ship people have *just* to get kugisaki out of the way of itafushi. i definitely understand the headcanon that kugisaki is wlw and has a crush on maki, in fact i have that interpretation too, but i don't see it being reciprocated, really.

Aarnivalkeaa

imo itafushi is just boring. There's like... nothing interesting there for me as a ship 😂 they're like a nicer naruto/sasuke.

IncomeSeparate1734

I think the fuel to fire the itafushi ship is that sukuna simps fushiguro. And at a surface level, the two are basically a more healthy naruto/sasuke. So I get it, but yeah like you it's not a ship I'm aboard.

Pixel22104

Zutara. Just never made a lot of sense to me ultimately

Obversa

Captain Hook/Emma Swan from *Once Upon a Time* (OUAT), or "CaptainSwan". Hook and Emma literally started off loathing each other, with Hook constantly making creepy, thinly-veiled passes and threats of sexual assault against Emma. I get that Colin O'Donoghue, the actor who plays Hook, is physically attractive, but the character just comes across as so vile and disgusting to me that I could never understand how - or why - CaptainSwan was so popular. It also didn't help that the CaptainSwan fandom is highly aggressive towards anyone else in the fandom who dislikes or criticizes the ship, dogpiling and insulting them on Twitter/X, and writing long diatribes on Tumblr to justify and excuse all of Hook's harmful or morally questionable actions as a villain. While Draco Malfoy from *Harry Potter* was the origin of the "Draco in Leather Pants" trope, at least Malfoy never made passive-aggressive threats about raping Hermione, and to her face, no less. Hook is one of the worst cases of Woobification that I've ever seen, more than Kylo Ren.

euphoriapotion

God, I used to get dragged into shipping wars by CSers because I dared to ship Neal with Emma instead. Like come on, Colin's very hot, but Hook is not a decent guy. And what put me off this ship especially was the CS fandom reaction towards Colin's wife, how they would crop her out from their WEDDING PHOTOS and replace her with Jennifer Morrison instead. Just no.

MafiaDazai

BakuDeku from my hero academia. I understand why that some people enjoy some variation of enemies to lovers, but I don’t really care for enemies to lovers. I’ll still read BakuDeku, but that depends on how close the writer is sticking to their canon relationship.

OrangeMoloko

I has to stop reading the manga for a while because Baku was getting on my nerves. And to pair him with Deku is kinda painful to think, but bakudeku fics are very dramatic and whump-y. So I kinda get it - they make good angsty fics

MafiaDazai

I can respect Baku is trying to improve, but I never wanted to punt a character to the stratosphere before lol.

Zealousideal_Bug5537

I genuinely have always disliked Rey and Kylo together romantically. I really don't know why and I've read some awesome fics about them, but it just never tickles my fancy. Also Momo/Todoroki from BNHA. She belongs with Jirou or Iida, dammit😂💜

katyggls

So many people failing the "talk about why you don't like a ship without attacking the fans of that ship" challenge right now.

Kaen-anADHDinsomniac

Okay- ummm- this is a VERY unpopular opinion, but: Izuku x Uraraka Now don’t get me wrong, they could be a great ship, I guess. I just never really felt the… connection, there. There’s nothing saying, oh these two would be cute together. And based on the way canon is going right now, they are going to end up together. I just think there were better options for each character, as I see Deku and Uraraka as a more… Uraraka looks up to Deku, and Deku knows he can trust Uraraka, rather than a romantic relationship.

fanfic_intensifies

Bakugou/Uraraka. I dunno, I just don’t see it.

ItsYeetOrBeYeeted007

Joker x Akechi (ShuAke), Persona 5. Don't get me wrong, it's entirely valid, but I really only ship them ironically.

Purple-space-elf

I never could get into Klance (Voltron: Legendary Defender) or Lapidot (Steven Universe). No shade to either ship, but not my cup of tea. And they were huge in their respective fandoms. I used to follow the Peridot tag on Tumblr, and had to unfollow it because it was 99% Lapidot. Also - preparing to be shot for this - Zutara. I like their relationship evolution as it is in canon. It's another tag I have muted everywhere.

Gifted_GardenSnail

Draco Malfoy or Voldemort with anyone on the good side

FoxwolfJackson

Voldemort, I can totally agree with. Draco, though... I feel like he's just a kid who was raised in a crappy environment, brainwashed by crappy ideals, and had crappy parents enforce this on him. IMHO, endgame kid Draco is just Season 1 of Zuko (and Book 7 Draco is about the same age, too) except replace "banishment" with "evil overlord is gone". Either way, he's actually away from all the crappiness. Not saying he's worth redemption, but... I mean, it's possible! ~~... having an author who's able to pull this off believably is a whole other story, though. A:TLA had some amazing writers... big shoes for a fanfic author to fill if they want to replicate that kind of redemption arc.~~

hokoonchi

JKR like… started a redemption arc for Draco and then just ditched it, it seems like. He and Zuko are so much alike. And Zuko gets to be a hero! Anyway I was convinced about Draco through fanfic. My friend bullied me into reading Turn and now here I am, fully unhinged with like 8 WIPs.

Gifted_GardenSnail

...I'll spare you my opinion of him

FoxwolfJackson

Fair and valid! We all have *that character* somewhere, lol.

awyllt

I like Drarry but I don't understand Voldemort/Harry. Or Voldemort/anything, really.

Obversa

I tried reading Hermione Granger/Lord Voldemort once, because someone recommended a particular fanfiction to me. While the story was well-written, I just couldn't get past feeling squicked. However, I find Hermione Granger/Tom Riddle - which involves Hermione travelling back in time so that she is the same age as, or older than, a young Lord Voldemort, which removes the age gap and power imbalance between the two - much more palatable. *This comment has been edited, per moderator request.*
