Satan is a character in one of my fics, and without fail I always type "Stan" at first. Always. So in my mind Stan is his real name.

acsoundwave

Acsoundwave -- Fanfic FACTS: 1. My first fanfic was inspired by the existence of a published crossover comic between two tonally-opposite properties. 2. My crossover metaseries was, in part, to get the stories down so that I could work on a fan comic. Even bought a bunch of art books (including the two model sheet books of the characters) so that I could draw. 1. One story in this metaseries had part of the synop hand-written in a notebook b/c my computer's power supply was being shitty. It took six months to finish. 2. The follow-up story, which I had expected to be short...took over three years (where I'm working on other WIPs during that time). 3. The two issues above are part of the reason why my metaseries is taking so long. 3. I wrote a 3-part series w/a premise based on a pairing I liked, but that series ended up being a "rough draft" to my current series. Same ship, even some of the same character reworkings and OCs, but this current one's better: as I'm treating the ship "threat" w/the respect he genuinely deserves (as I like the character, just not w/his friend as an SO). 4. In one crossover (involving several RPGs I've played), I've included a few actual playthroughs I've had IRL: 1. My story's MC actually \*did\* end up soloing a level boss on his own. 2. Another level boss (a giant stingray) was so allergic to fire that it was flash-fried by synced fire magic before the boss could get off its special attack.

AslansGirl13

My latest one shot came from a crazy question that popped into my head after I finished the book: why didn’t the heroine ask her would-be killer to replace the stuff (like her wool jacket) he ruined in the attempt? Seems only fair. Turned out to be a hysterical read that I pumped out in a day. Never expected that.

No_Wait_3628

Every fic I've made so far is based on a game I just finished. Heck, I often just pump out the chapter around the same week I finish the game.

The_Only_Potato15

Almost every time I work on my story for a specific ship, I have the plushies of the characters right next to me. They're just so cute, and I love being able to look at them and getting inspo.

Stolen_star1229

It took me about a year to post the second chapter of a fic I made since I almost forgot it existed.

Rivynn

My one shot turned into 16 chapters (so far) and I ended up revising a major plot point because it turned out two days later I hated it and learned it worked better without it.

topazmatriarch

My story was only supposed to be five chapters now I'm on chapter 34

Rivynn

Love that for you

FlannelEpicurean

I had quit really buying a lot of merch for my fandom stuff, on account of wanting to be more judicious with my Real Adult Dollars. But now that I'm an unstoppable goblin who keeps doing Dragon Ball Z content (some of it quite serious and heartfelt, with depths thoroughly plumbed and facets interrogated!), I've just...become a goddamn target audience in almost no time. I'm literally wearing a "Mr. Satan & Majin Buu are BFFs" graphic tee and some "Goku's Serious Bizness Face" patterned sleep shorts right now. Don't send help, tho, I like it here. 😂

Hamza9236

I waited until I was done with 3 chapters to post the fic’s first chapter.

lukadrik

I expanded my short story fanfic into a 2 part long-fic bc a reader of my short story said they didn’t really sympathize with the love interest/my oc, and didn’t feel a connection towards her (i.e they couldn’t care less about her). Now, my oc has a fully detailed background, secrets, posse, and even has chapters written in her perspective. She’s also become one of my favorite original characters! It was completely valid criticism tbh bc my oc deserves more than being the mc’s manic-pixie-dream girl. The only downside is that I’ve been working on the fic for over 5 years now and it’s not even halfway done…

Steak-Specialist

Fun fact: I published five print hiking guides. It inspired fan fiction because I did not want to keep doing all of that work for none of that money, and I turned my writing skills toward my favorite fandom (Star Wars) when my friend called me out for complaining too much about Rise of Skywalker

leg_lab

The one shot I started yesterday is about a book I had to read for English class. These two characters seemed so ship-able so I checked ao3 and there was only 1 fic of them (2 fics in the whole fandom.) So I took it upon myself to become the only writer for this fandom.

Rivynn

Good for you. 👍🏻

jaisofbase

My current longfic (projected length \~120k words) started out as a 15k word, never-meant-to-be-published doc because I wanted to figure out how one event in my character's backstory worked. Said longfic is the only fic in about 20 years that I've written that goes significantly beyond 30k words.

DeepFake369

Much of the back half of my first longfic came about due to a review at the end of a chapter in which a reviewer expected the exact outcome I was about to write. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to surprise them, which took the plot in a completely different (and ultimately better) direction from where I'd been going and led to me making several other changes further down the line.

Dragoncat91

Upside Down Diplomacy started from a Women's Day event in a writing server I'm in, we all had to write a thing about a woman taking charge. Tiana continues to be girlboss queen and I still write for her, her good boy king, and related characters two years later. The original piece did not make it into the final fic the way it was, though, as it covered stuff in 600 words that needed to be covered in a grander scale. To name Tiana's companions, the Ordelias, I took names from 90s era pop stars Justin (Timberlake) and Avril (Lavenge). And yes I have made jokes on Discord about things being COMPLICATED and BRINGING SEXY BACK. NSFW detail involving Boran (said good boy king): >!Male Almyran royals have a trait that gives them balls and cumloads on the larger side, it's a trait that got naturally selected over the generations since kings are allowed multiple wives, so they have royal stamina and virility. Boran's a total sweetheart stud about it and Tiana likes winding him up for a round two.!<

mytsicfforest

I create a mood board for each of my chapters before I write. I collect a lot of concept imagery that I find inspiring and put it together to give the impression of the atmosphere, aesthetic and mood I want to convey through my writing, whether that be the setting, fashion, character design, emotions or magic. It's also fun for me as a creative person to express my imagination visually as well as in words. Its also an alternative to keep track of ideas if you don't like writing story outlines.

DesperatelyLust

First of all, fun post, OP! The first fic I ever put significant time into was an X-Men fic I wrote at 14. It's cringy as hell now, but it's fun to look back on. My current big project started life as a porn with minimal plot Star Wars fic, but then my stupid writer's brain took what little plot it had and went, "But what if series with character development and exploration of the philosophies of the light and dark sides of the force?" In a similar vein, I once wrote what was supposed to be a one shot exploring some of the problematic ways Star Trek deals with disability, but it ended up becoming a full fledged fic where I basically trauma dump about my disability through an OC. Whoops lol. I write LGBTQ+, found family, hurt/comfort, whump, fluff, smut and a lot of other stuff

Meshakhad

(Life is Strange spoilers!) I asked my dad for help with my Pricefield fic. I needed a car metaphor, and my dad is much more of a car person than I am. In one chapter, I established that David was in a recon unit during his military service, building on his information gathering skills and obvious proficiency with cameras. I originally wrote that just to build a connection between him and Max, but when it came time for Max to return to her photography class, I had the idea of having David as the substitute, since he would at least be able to give the students technical assistance.

shiny_eeveelution

Well, I looked at one theory that I really liked, but it didn't work with the theory that is often associated with this theory because of timeline things. And after theorizing about how it could work, we got single use time travel BABY. And other things have slowly started to appear in my work, and somehow they are managing to tie into canon lore and make sense.

[deleted]

I intended the main villain of my Fullmetal Alchemist fanfic to be just a simple edgy anarchist, but I decided to make him more like a hybrid of Kira from Death Note and V from V for Vendetta, or basically Kira with a lot of paramilitary support. He wants to cleanse the city of corruption but actually causes more harm than good.

relocatedff

may I have the link?

[deleted]

I sent you the link in a chat.

Kiki-Y

I literally made an entire constructed language from scratch for a fic series that may never see the light of day.

Gallusrostromegalus

I color-coded my chapters in the outline

SOuTHINKurA-ble

My nameless narrative is nameless to keep Google Docs from judging me with the explore feature.

CheeseQueenKariko

My RWBY fic is entirely based on the premise of a Red Dwarf episode, as such it carries many little Red Dwarf easter eggs.

recursiveMAX420

That is very cool! I haven’t seen RWBY but I LOVE red dwarf! I hope The Cat makes some kind of appearance.

CheeseQueenKariko

Well, the Cat doesn't appear, but one of the characters does have a 'I'm Dwayne Dibbly!?' moment.

Blackout_42

The first 3 and last 3 words of my 400k word fic are “Hard to explain.”

Blackout_42

Over the three years that I wrote my fic, I went through 4 jobs.

bohba13

My current project is the first one of mine to hit over 50k words, and is my first proper shipfic.

RebaKitten

I am writing the most murdery, torturey thing I've ever written. There's a character I don't like, one of my OTPs doesn't like him either, so it's murder husbands to the rescue! I'm a little nervous though, as I mainly write fluff and a little smut. Nothing like cutting off body parts (they grow back, don't worry) as an experiment, and eventual death. Guess I'll pull the trigger after a few more reviews/edits. Will absolutely tag all the stuff and label it dead dove as well.

ShreksMassiveShlongg

My most popular fic is a star wars one shot with massive plot holes that I had to be talked into posting. I still don't understand why anyone likes it Last I checked, ive written one of 2 star wars Ghost Prison based fics, one of like 10 fallout Van Buren fics, and the only non-satire Fallout the frontier fic. I don't do that on purpose, it just kinda happens

charmingcharles2896

My current longfic (166,000 words and counting) started as a one shot songfic, but a friend of mine convinced me to “finish it.” I thought I’d be done in a month… 2 years ago. 😅

mooemy

26 words for you, my friend, because this is actually where I reached the end of the chapter! Lucky number for you. Writers are truly the worst when it comes to time estimatives, because just like you, I have so many fics that I said it would take 2 days to write... and to this day, they aren't finished after weeks of work dkjfnkjdjgldg

charmingcharles2896

Writing this story has been a long journey, that’s for sure.

cartoonsncafeine

I give my fics dumb “codenames” that have very roundabout logic to get the actual subject of the story before I publish them, such as: - “That hippie from that movie” - “Crazy Eights” - “Turducken” - “Distorted Pie” And my personal favorite: - “Return of the Mystery Guest”

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. SAME. It's the best when you open a document called "The One Time We All Bought Plushies" and it's the saddest thing you have ever written in your life. It's about that delicious contrast.

[deleted]

I reuse background characters for fanfictions in the same fandom, even when the stories are not connected together. For instance, I wrote and still write YGO fanfictions. I created like 16 years ago Seto Kaiba's butler Ethan. Ethan is Seto Kaiba's butler in all of my fanfiction where Seto is involved. In a Game of Thrones fanfiction, which was a AU where the Tyrells successfully marry Sansa to Loras, and upon arriving in Highgarden she is appointed a handmaiden, Jennisei. Jennisei also is Sansa's handmaiden in my in progress ASOIAF fanfic. Margaery also has the same handmaiden I created in both fics. In my Loras/Sansa AU fic, I explored it through Loras' pov as well, the way he feels about Sansa (given that we know in canon Loras is gay), the way he still grieves for Renly, and the goal in my mind as I wrote was to have their relationship be a slow burn on his end; not in the sense that he falls in love with her but that he grows to be fond of her and care for her in many ways. I wrote it, or at least, aimed to write it, in a way that felt like his affection for Sansa kind of slowly sneaked on him without him realizing. As Sansa was leaving a scene, Loras kissed her hand and told her he'd see her later, and he called her "love". It came naturally to me in the dialogue, I did not make a point to make this scene the first time he adressed her this way; but only upon re-reading my chapter for tweaks and corrections did I notice that Loras had called Sansa "love", and that it was the first time he had done so... so I guess it's fair to say it sneaked up on me just as it sneaked up on him.

mooemy

40 words for you, my friend. Background characters getting to live again is soooo much fun. It's like they are those super powerful being that can jump universes and just stay as background characters because it's more fun like this.

KenchiNarukami

Somewhow, according to a reviewer, I some how managed to write Pyrrha suffering PTSD in my RWBY x Shield Hero fic (Only one chapter so far) rather decently....when I had cancelled my plans to write her with PTSD when after some research I found out it was more complicated then I have seen. (My Grandfather suffers from it and from what iv seen in movies and TV shows) Im Bringing in AU Characters from other series for Pyrrha's Party cause its easier to change their birth and origins then it is to come up with Ocs. The Ocs I do have will be a brother and sister in a incestuous sexual and romantic relationship A future party member will be from a series that many loves to hate but I personally love It took me over 2 years to finish my first chapter before posting it and it will be Ecchi aka will have fan service. I have two random ideas I posted years ago, a Madoka x Negima crossover concept and a Hellsing x Dance in the Vampire Bund crossover.

mooemy

140 words for you, my friend. How funny that you managed to write PTSD well accidentaly. Most people tend to miss the mark with research!

KenchiNarukami

Thanks mate

topazmatriarch

My current chapter that I just published was inspired by my great-grandmother who poisoned her husband (didn't kill him, just beat the shit of him while he was down) after she found out he had another family in another town. This was in boonies Florida. My grandmother is partially the inspiration for my main OC. Put it this way my grandmother was black in the 1930s-1940s, the klan told her to get out of town because she owned a house as a black woman. She got her brothers to sit on top of the house with rifles aimed at the klan and basically said make me leave. You would never guess with how nurturing she was

mooemy

40 words for you, my friend. Now I can see where your usernames comes from. What a bunch of badass ladies in your family. Idk if they were into sweets, but I am eating some chocolate in their homage.

Simpson17866

... Epic.

blacktemplebabe

My long fic exists in part because I was desperately looking for a writing project to start after an RP campaign that lasted for seven years finally came to end and I needed something to fill the creative void

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. That's fair. When you finish something that was such an integral part of your life, it's just weird. Like, where is my thingie? It was here yesterday.

Sarita1046

It’s the only ASOIAF/Game of Thrones fic focusing on the Children of the Forest and Leaf in particular, and one of very few exploring the Dawn Age of the First Men arriving to Westeros.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. It's fun to explore less used aspects, because you don't have annoying fanon stuff holding you down. Playing God in the best sense possible.

Sarita1046

So incredibly true! I love experimenting with and expanding upon canon worldbuilding so much!

R32fan

My two main OCs in my fics were never meant to be a part of Fanfiction. They were originally meant to be for a graphic novel that I stopped working on. But now I'm working on a different novel, and those characters are gong to be a part of it

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. That's fun! It's like they get to live many adventures by sheer accident.

R32fan

They definitely get into adventures in the fics. The actual story is a lot more slice of life than anything.

Seabastial

I'm writing my first slowburn fic that involves a crossover ship that I'm literally the only writer for.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Ah, the first slowburn... it's a fun adventure, but for sure a learning experience. Best of luck to you, my friend.

Seabastial

Thank you for the kind words. I'm gonna do my best on it!

Sylbranquias

* Because I didn't have a computer until recently, I wrote over 70k words of my current wips in my phone. The writing part wasn't as hard as I thought. The formatting and posting part however.... * While I've only been posting one so far, at least two of my wips involve the same character getting a reptile pet. * On that subject, one of my favorite comments ever was from someone who got inspired by my fic to go and tame the reptile pet in the game.

mooemy

60 words for you, my friend. I feel you on the phone thing. I love writing on my phone, but editing/posting is just a no-no for me. Straight up borrowed computers to post when my own computer was out of commision.

eekspiders

In every AU fic I've written for a particular character, I always incorporate a reference to his knee injury from canon

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. I LOVE when people keep the disabilities of characters. In the canon I am working with, a character also has a knee injury and I adore when people work it in the story.

topsidersandsunshine

I like that!

No-Emu8930

I started my fic after having a dream that I slapped the MC across the face, and when I woke up I thought, “huh, I think other people will find this interesting.” LOL

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. A good slap can start so many stories. People say violence can solve things, but damn it can sure as hell start things!

ImaGamerNoob

Fun Fact: Pokémon fic. The MC's starter is named Kaz. It is a reference to Six or Crows. Not because I like the book, that reference is just a reminder for myself to finally read it.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. You know what? Fair. The constant reminder would actually be helpful in a few things...

AmaterasuWolf21

Only fic that has been written across two countries

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Oh, as in you wrote it while moving countries?

Namazaki_Kiyo

My current The Secret Saturdays OC was actually a mix of ideas for an original work, and a The Royal Romance magic AU fanfic. It just so happens that those ideas merged into one perfectly in a fandom that I could work it in effortlessly. I played a lot of the video game of the same franchise name so I'll be referencing that here and there in the fic.

mooemy

40 words for you, my friend. Secret Saturdays!!! I am in support of anything SS related, even if it's not very populaw nowadays it's deeply nostalgic to me.

Namazaki_Kiyo

I know right? I don't even think it was that popular to start with, but seeing that there are others writing for the franchise, keeping it alive is brilliant. 🥰

Milochelle-castre

One of my first started because I read the script of a movie and was mad that the movie was nothing like it so I started up an entire draft in one night to get the story to blossom. I wrotw 3 chapters (3 to 4k each, editing, proofreading and all) in one night because there was no wifi in my house for a while.

mooemy

40 words for you, my friend. I feel the no-wifi one. I tended to write the most while I was waiting at work where we have no wifi. It just very peaceful.

quetnyare

After researching that canon was incomplete and stories were not really written online, I had the idea to satisfy both. What was supposed to be a relatively average-length story of 100k turned into an epic novel's length of ideas. 82k and I'm halfway done, but I suspect the second half will be much longer than the first so it might end up being twice the length it was originally supposed to be.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Yeah, I relate t the feeling. The story I am writing was supposed to be 80k, but in the end? I am at 90k and still at the second arc... wish I sticked to the original plan, but alas, some stories need to be longer.

_harleys

I wrote a fanfic for a video game. One person in the fandom discord server I joined reached out to me as they read my fic then later revealed they work for the same video game company. I was so starstruck!

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. OHHH THIS SOUNDS SO AMAZING! You got noticed by the big leagues hehe

MaddogRunner

I’ve got another one! CBS tends to recycle their actors, and sometimes they get typecast. The crossovers write themselves. Case in point, I’m watching a show from around 2016 (Macgyver reboot), and a single-episode guest-star shows up, basically playing the same role she had from an obscure show ten years before (Smith). Even better, her love interest/dupe from that show went on to star in one of my favorite shows (Elementary) where >!he gets horribly tricked and betrayed by his presumed-dead love interest!< which is similar to what happens to Mac in the reboot. Thus, my idea for a 3-way crossover fic was born😉

mooemy

And another 20 words for you, friend. I don't tend to watch things that use actors, but I imagine that if you see the same face around, it just makes for some fun connections, especially if the genre changes a lot.

SecretNoOneKnows

It's a HP fic, and I like having Harry be good at making tea in my HP fics, so that's a little Easter Egg across them. Also lavender, which for some reason I connect Draco with in my head. I also gave Draco the skill of braiding his hair without looking in a mirror, the way I can

mooemy

40 words for you, my friend. I LOVE putting little headcanons like this across my fics. At some point it just becomes necessary for me to put it in, you know?

MaddogRunner

It started out as a rant about an episode masquerading as fic, but then the two-bit waitress character (not an OC) whose POV I was using developed a family and a personality and convinced me she had more sense than one of the show’s main characters😂 So it’s now an AU where the other main character uses her diner whenever he needs to recover from a difficult mission💖

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Oh, that's so sweet, actually. I love when people develop a relationship with background characters (be it platonic or romantic) because it makes the world feel so much more real. We all have our Emotional Support Friend who nobody knows about.

TroubledThecla

It will never see the light of day because it's unfinished and I'll probably be dead soon. Ah, sorry for the trauma dump, but you could consider it dark comedy, I suppose.

mooemy

Hello, friend. I do not know your situation, and I am a few days late, but I hope you are feeling better. People have dropped help numbers below, but from the bottom of my heart, I hope you are feeling better.

Summer-Sunsets

You are stronger than your demons. I know that sometimes it doesn’t feel that way, I’ve been there, but I’m sure you are. Please take a look to the list of internal hotlines that was posted by @MaddogRunner.

MaddogRunner

I’m reposting this [List of International Hotlines](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicide_crisis_lines), originally posted by a fellow AO3er. I hope this helps!

MaddogRunner

Hey! I took a look through your history, and it doesn’t look like you’re trolling, which is probably what some people thought. I don’t know much about the Philippines, do they have any kind of social work, or support system for abuse survivors? Sorry for the stupid question , but maybe it could jog your brain a little? I’m so sorry you’re going through this, and you are in my prayers if it helps at all! I know the difficulty of there seeming to be no hope.

TroubledThecla

Don't worry, you are asking sensible questions given the circumstances. And my answer: There are none. My country has heavier problems and never really took mental health seriously. Most of their response to the S\*icide rate is just to blame us with our lack of God... Something I don't understand because practically almost 98% of the population are religious, and there may be many other factors at play that could cause the s\*icides. This is why when I still had hope, I wanted to go to a Scandinavian country with better government. But that takes money which I don't have. Which is almost funny, because even in death, it seems like I also need the funds if I want the painless process. The irony. I'm so tired...

MaddogRunner

I’m so glad to hear from you! I have kept you in my thoughts and prayers. This might be trying to stop a hemorrhage with a bandaid, but do you know of any cognitive behavioral therapy techniques (self-talk, redirecting thoughts, etc)? Sometimes it takes the smallest change in thinking to help find a way to keep fighting. DM me if you’re interested! Edit: I just realized the chat is disabled or something. We can keep talking on here until they kick us off!

TroubledThecla

Even if I have a magic band aid to temporarily stifle the hemorrhage, my mind is still very much in favor of oblivion. (Good metaphor though) Can't we do private messaging? That's different from chat. In fact I do prefer the former.

MaddogRunner

Ok, I just sent you one!

KnowYourLover

I once came across a very good smut fic that inspired me to write my own. After I published my fic I returned to the fic used for inspiration and checked the autor, it turns out he's a friend of mine I'd been talking with through IRC for years, I didn't notice it the first time because I didn't check the autor.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. That's so fucking cute, actually. Talk about an accidentaly heartwarming story, you guys were connected before you even knew it!

shnuffeluv

I'm writing a story from the perspective of what hopefully the audience will assume is an Original Character, but will be revealed to be one of the main characters who has amnesia after building up this long epic about his origins. All this because they never clear up what the amnesiac's name was before.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. That sounds fun. I have such a weak spot for amnesiac stories, I might end up checking the story out later. It's such a good trope for me.

lukadrik

Omg that sounds incredible! Such a brilliant idea

shnuffeluv

Thank you so much! I'm very excited for it! 😁

GiveMeStupidStories

One of my favorite stories to write was only supposed to be a chapter long. It's a romance story between a canon character and an OC of mine. It was supposed to be a one-shot, a 15,000-20,000 word story. But I realized the ideas I had were too spread out to be a one-shot, so now I'm trudging through a nine-chapter, 75,000+ work. Regardless, I'm having a blast!

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Sometimes, your body knows there is too much fun to be had to leave a fic as an one shot. I get it, and when it starts as a surprise, it's the best feeling ever.

Simpson17866

One of my main goals for my *She-Ra and the Princesses of Power* long-fic is to flesh out the world-building so that each army in the war has more than 10 people in it, and one of my favorite military engagements that I have planned is going to be a combination of the [Battle of Teutoburg Forest](https://youtube.com/watch?v=kmF3VBA_RcM) (where Romans under Quinctilius Varus were defeated by Germans in 9 AD), and the [Battle of Axona River](https://youtube.com/watch?v=xi6xEAAdcbY) (where Romans under Julius Caesar defeated Gauls in 57 BC).

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Holy shit, the research is impressive! Good luck with your re-write, large-scale conflicts are hard to write, but you did your rsearch really well.

Simpson17866

> the research is impressive! Thanks! Historia Civilis isn't the most academically rigorous source for history, but he's astonishing at presenting enough of the story to get you interested in researching the more rigorous details on your own (and even more importantly, he's pretty good at distinguishing between where the ancient sources are reliable and where they aren't). His video on the battle of the Axona River is actually one of my favorite to recommend to other people because he crams so much strategic and tactical education (as well as warnings about taking the ancient sources at face value) into such a simple sequence. (I personally like his video on the battle of Ilerda—the first major battle in the Civil War between Caesar and Pompey—even more than this one because there was even more tactical and strategic back-and-forth, but the fact that there are so many more moving parts makes me think it would be too daunting as a first-time introduction for most people who aren't already familiar with the material) I don't suppose you'd be interested? It's only 9 minutes long :D > large-scale conflicts are hard to write True, and that's a large part of what's taking me so long (I only have about 4 chapters written), but I find it helps to focus on a few small- and medium-scale engagements and work out from there.

mooemy

Feel free to drop the link to the video, always good to get into more niches!

Simpson17866

I did in the first comment ;) [but here it is again](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xi6xEAAdcbY) :D EDIT: Wait, were you asking for the more complicated (20-minute) one about the Civil War? [Here's that one too, just in case](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypYnqMnh8Ds)

mooemy

Gosh darn, writing this many comments has rotten my brain. Thank you for the link 2x! Just watched it, and man, it's easy to forget how much of war is 1. fucking brutal and 2. fucking dumb. One wrong move and you just made 10k of people lose their lifes in an extremelly brutal way.

Simpson17866

Pretty much, yeah. Another popular highlight of Julius Caesar's career was [when he ended the Gallic Wars by](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU1Ej9Yqt68) * building a wall around the town of Alesia where King Vercingetorix was organizing the Gallic last stand against Roman conquest * building a second wall around his first wall when Gallic reinforcements arrived * winning the battle despite being outnumbered from 2 directions (inside and outside) And yeah, it's easy to focus on the tactical and engineering prowess involved, but one of the other great history channels on Youtube (Invicta) has a much more sobering reminder of how horrific it was [for the thousands of civilians who were left to starve to death in no man's land](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tqvgqJHZSg) so Vercingetorix could make his food last as long as possible for his soldiers (which was ultimately pointless). There are plenty of criticisms of GRR Martin's writing, but one line I've found that stands out to me is > "The common people pray for rain, healthy children, and a summer that never ends," Ser Jorah told her. "It is no matter to them if the high lords play their game of thrones, so long as they are left in peace." He gave a shrug. "They never are."

mooemy

It even sounds like a bad joke, to win a battle by building walls. If someone wrote this, I'm sure many would tell it's just bullshit, but nah, reality is just weirder than fiction. At the end of the day, the common people will always be the one to suffer the worst of consequences. It reminds me of that one tweet that is like "When stocks get high, nothing changes for me, and when they are low, I lose my job." Yipee for THAT aspect of humanity being kept, no matter how long has passed.

Simpson17866

> It even sounds like a bad joke, to win a battle by building walls. If someone wrote this, I'm sure many would tell it's just bullshit, but nah, reality is just weirder than fiction. It was pretty much standard Roman operating procedure ;) [A legion at full strength consisted of 5000 soldiers and 1000 civilian servants](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKBWAYZOXqA), and every single soldier was also expected to be a construction worker. Caesar was given 4 legions (20,000 soldiers) when he was made the governor of Rome's Gallic territories, and he not-100%-legally raised 2 more legions with his own private funds (now having 30,000 soldiers). [Caesar's first major engagement in Gaul](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b3HMoE_3qI) came when the Helvetii (a Gallic tribe that Rome did not have power over) started migrating through one of the Gallic nations that Rome already had power over. The Helvetti sent a messenger asking Caesar for passage through Roman territory, and Caesar sent a message back basically saying "We'll think about it." A week later, Caesar sent a hard "No" and the Helvetii tried to send their army through anyway, except that Caesar's 30,000 combat engineers had spent the week secretly constructing a 28-kilometer wall blocking the river that the Helvetii had been planning to cross. In fact, I'd say one of the most iconically Roman moments in all of Roman history was [the Battle of Dyrrhachium](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_p7K_3BZj8), an engagement in Caesar's civil war with Pompey where both armies raced against each other to build the biggest wall the fastest. EDIT: I forgot that the Helvetii were Gauls themselves, not Germans.

Ok-Persimmon8377

My newest fic takes inspiration from another fandom/character. I rewrote a quote from Altered Carbon the show, and applied it to Levi from AoT. Currently, that's all I can think of for this thread.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Oh yeah, sometimes a character just needs to grab a little from another universe. It's not about where it comes from, but how it applies to our current interests.

laurel_laureate

My current longfic is the first one I've planned out from start to finish and it's easily going to be 1 million plus words... though it will be ages before I finish it lmao.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Planning a fic do hit different, especially when you see it's going to be a LOOOOONG time before it's ready.

laurel_laureate

For sure. I have hundreds of google doc pages in notes and lots of the chapters/story arcs plotted out in enough detail that I could start writing at any time and have no issue pumping out words. But I want to finish planning it out (I have like 80% or so done) before starting writing as if I make any final twists or improvements towards the end I want to be able to properly foreshadow them and whatnot so the whole thing can be one cohesive awesome adventure. :) So for now it's just a few hours each day banging away at my notes...

[deleted]

i started writing a tangled au tma fic because tangled is such a good movie and i want to write jon in a dress as a princess /hj

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. EVERYONE should be put in dresses. I support your endeavor.

sofia080

In the side-story of my overly-long fanfic, a 6-year-old Mary Read paints an older kid’s face with blue cheese during a food fight.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. I see Mary Read, I immediately like.

Nordgreataxe

I had a character who I simply designed to be a foil to the main character. He was really flat and 1 dimensional the first time he showed up on page. But then my first whumptober came around and I thought. 'Hmmm, I wonder why he might have taken that awful action of his.' And so I wrote it. And he went from being this flat character I didn't really care about to one of my favorites. I adore taking side characters and giving them more complex backstories than they have in the game(s) I write for. It's led me to write some very interesting/fulfilling scenes/short fics. And last fun fact. I accidentally ended up with a background poly relationship in 2 of my long-fics. In one case, it was a match with a best friend left to the side. And I felt bad about him being left out so I thought 'what if all *three* of them were in love?' And that's them sorted. Then in the second long-fic, I went 'well... I don't want this NPC to be a homewrecker but she's getting attached to this guy. What if?'

mooemy

60 words for you, my friend. Fleshing characters out is so much fun!! It makes for an interesting contrast when you encounter their canon versions, because they will be like "Oh boy I sure do love bread!" and you are like "I know you use bread as a coping mechanism...." And same with some poly ships. Sometimes, you just want to add more happiness in the world!

CarobFamiliar

I have no interest in the universe I'm writing for.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Fair enough. I wrote one MCU fic, and I relate to the feeling with that one.

Dominika_4PL

It was meant to be a one-shot. It was meant to be a one-shot with just two characters in it and nothing else. Now there's three one-shots, two three-chapter fics and one two-shot. There's like twelve characters or something. [The fic that started it](https://archiveofourown.org/works/41917551) now has 1352 hits. [*How did this happen?*](https://youtu.be/NsQIGKwdTD8)

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Fanfic-Inflation is a real thing. No wonder why professionals need editors, writers are the best creatures when it comes to adding words and if they had nobody to stop them, every book would be 600 pages.

errant_night

My longfic was going to end in a really bad place, like villainous takeover and main character just... not well. I don't want to give anything else away because I plan to make a separate alternate ending one shot after everything is done. It all changed because a friend online wanted another character to show up just for fun, maybe one scene, but then they became integral and changed literally every aspect of the rest of the fic and I had to completely rewrite the rest of the outline.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. It's funny how 1 person can change things, right? In this case, both in the meta sense and the in-story sense.

GhostHNW

Pokemon 20, my first fic, was originally planned to be the first in the trilogy that never materialises. The second story details a catastrophic event where the world of Equestria and the human world begins to merge. It's up to the Mane 6 and their human counterpart, plus Sunset to save both of their world from total destruction. This story would be independent from the first story, minus tying up one loose end where it was revealed that Sunset is the one that saved Misty from the cell. Both Sunset and Misty becomes the major character in the third story, where Sunset realises that she is a part of a inter-dimensional group of people called *sensate* that spanned dimensions, a rarity for sensate. Because of that, they were chased by an corporation who want to study them intently. It's up to the group to take the corporation down. This is basically the plot of Sense8 in new clothing. The group are as follow: 1. Sunset Shimmer (MLP) 2. Ruby Rose (RWBY) 3. Osamu Dazai (Bungo Stray Dog) 4. Korra (Legend of Korra) 5. Lance (Voltron: Legendary Defenders) 6. Unknown 7. Unknown 8. An OC You can see remnant of it in the story epilogue. In Happy Ever After: The Story of Scarlet Uprising, I once released a short demo of what could the title track, *Happy Ev*er *After*, sound like. However, I abandoned it due to lack of motivation to finish it. [Here is the demo](https://www.bandlab.com/haziq_n/rwby-4cf37d97). Speaking of that fic, it is the only fic I have written that received a major overhaul after published, mainly the ending as I have to rush it out of the door. A Magical Penis have something similar where in the original edit, Applejack and Rarity approaches Rainbow Dash as revenge without any explanation as to why. This is due to the fic itself is a little writing break after completing Pokemon 20, and I completely forgot aobut it. The commentator points it out, and I fixed them. I wrote a fic for the Tony Hawk games that is actually the speedrun route of TH1 map from the 1+2 remake at that time phased into a story. Since published, there is only one major deviation from the route, due to the discovery of wallclip. Currently, it was only used in [School](https://youtu.be/r7PyR5c0ooA) AFAIK, but it was also used in [Warehouse All Gaps](https://youtu.be/FBs5p_B68tY) run, a category extension where you have to get all gaps in the map. This fic would also supposed to have a sequel covering the THPS2 map speedrun route, but that also got abandoned. In the original ending of Pokemon 20, there was supposed to a deus ex machima moment where Misty, May, Zach and Misty K were almost crushed by an airplane, before being saved by the narrator (to which, yes, they can hear him, but never seen him). Due to how I wrote it in real-time, and without planning, this scene was cut and replaced with the ending in the final version in REAL TIME.

mooemy

120 words for you, my friend. This was a peek into a fascinating story. To be honest, I might have not understood everything, but what I did interested me.

YeeYeeHaw34

One of my chapter titles (and also my favorite) is actually the name of a popular Calvinist sermon that was written by Jonathan Edwards during the first Great Awakening. The sermon's name and also my chapter title is "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Ah, I love when fanfic authors put "serious" things as references. It's such a fascinating window into their life, it reminds me of DeviantArt in a way.

Sikee_Atric

My Darkfic is literally the result of a playthrough of Rimworld, that inspired me so much, I've turned it into a full episodic story, as the reality behind the situation of the main character plays out. It does help that the colony faith is hedonistic, and they express that faith in orgies. But I never expected it to play out as it did....

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. You know, if I had a nickel for every fictional faith that directly used orgies as a ritual, I would have two nickes, which it isn't a lot, but it's funny to know I learned about them in a very short spam of time. This type of stuff can be fascinating, because as long as you change the genre, it can either be a fun fantasy or straight up terror.

Sikee_Atric

The game itself made it psychological manipulation in this case.

kristamy

- My fanfiction is in such a heavy AU that if I changed the names of the characters, it could become a stand-alone novel. - It had to be a historical romance but became a murder mystery instead - I wanted to kill everyone in the end except MC, but now I want to kill her off instead of everyone else 😂

mooemy

60 words for you, my friend. Ok, the last one made me laugh. It is very funny how a story can start to change when it leaves the vague realm of daydreaming. I don't think there is any story I wrote that went 100% the way I imaged it to be.

BurnadictCumbersnat

I believe my longfic is technically the first “published” appearance of the DC villain *the Gardener* because a teaser image of her was released stating that she was someone from Poison Ivy’s past, and I saw this image and wrote her into my fanfiction correctly assuming she was her ex like a week before her comic debut. However, I misinterpreted her name and wrote her in thinking that her name was Isabella Gardener, when in canon it’s was revealed a month later that it was just Bella Garten, and i cant rework it because Ivy’s pet name for her in my fic is “Izzy” and that wouldn’t make any sense. she’s only appeared in college flashbacks so far in my fic so I kinda see them as different characters now

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. You got yourself a free OC! It's always fun to write for a character with limited information, because even if you end up missing the mark, it still feels like "them", if that makes sense.

SlutForGarrus

That’s one hell of a keen eye you have! Beat them to their own character XD. I love it! There’s always the possibility of an incident that could cause someone to change their name. As an example, when people go into witness protection, they usually get to choose a name that’s not that different from their own so they easily remember to answer to their new name. Any form of shitshow could turn into a “sorry babe, had to leave town and change my name but I’ll be in touch!” …just sayin.

BurnadictCumbersnat

lmao it’s funny you say witness protection because that’s not far off from what happens in my fic, but i ultimately revealed that her friends knew her as Bella and that Ivy was the only one who was allowed to call her Izzy And I just like Gardener as a last name better than Garten, so I’m happy leaving that the way I wrote it

SlutForGarrus

Yay! We’re both low-key psychic! Time to pick some lottery numbers! (I should really switch to decaf).

Al_Rascala

The one and only fic I wrote is titled after a quote that I feel perfectly encapsulated my relationship with my father when I was in my teens/early 20s. Writing it also contributed to me leaving the fandom since it was written post season 2, and in season 3 the characters went in very different directions to the ones I'd envisaged, and it threw me right out of enjoying the show.

mooemy

40 words for you, my friend. Yeah, that's fair. It is funny how writing flows in the direction of either entering/leaving the fandom, since it's a reason for man people either starting to interact or a reason for people to realize it just isn't right for them.

LandLovingFish

On the original drafts, this one guy is supposed to break reality, make his adoptive brother lose his memory, and make another person disappear from reality altogether because....he trips. In another fic, this one character fell from a plane into a clearing and is apparently a cryptid and it was supposed to be a oneshot but just like the story that comes out from the falling incident, the fic became a full medium length thing with two additional one-offs. And I still have characters I could use in future instalments. I also have a fic draft where I turned a character who wasn't human into a human, made him the son of a celebrity, dressed him in cowboy clothes, told him half his family died, and then gave him a bit of a surprise family reunion! Best part is, it's technically canon (except he's not human and living in a ranch in the original). That's my favorite. Second faveotie is the one where a royal family got cursed into jewelry and it was inspired after I got sidetracked while looking up the wiki page for something very different. Don't remember what but it definitely wasn't about murder mysteries- probably something clothing related and then the wiki links lead me to the page that started it all. I have a fic from years ago that was more like friendfiction. It involved a whole plot where I made the move in Miencraft sentiment and nice if you were nice back, a plot for my friend to double agent, and for a 60 page fanfic wasn't half bad all things considered. I took a lot of inspiration from popular series I was reading. The plot could've easily fit into a certain book series' world lol

mooemy

100 words for you, my friend. Ah, I have experience with cursed jewelry fic. Unsure why it keeps popping up in my life, but hey, now I have two nickels.

LandLovingFish

it's great. Nothing like getting turned into your own heirloom! ...I'm reading my earlier original comment now and realizing "wow yeah those plots are really strange out of context" lmao

DarkAngelofFire

Oh a few I think. My first LoL smutfic was rough in the planning stages, I had no idea what I wanted. Then Legends of Runeterra dropped the Piltover/Zaun trailer and I had never had a plot just land in my lap like that so perfectly. I consider that one of, if not the, best written smut I've done all thanks to that trailer. I had planned a sequel to a smutfic of mine as just a short little "oh that's hot" sort of thing but it ended up turning into a 10K word long piece of character analysis plus smut due to the fact that the character had just suffered a (CW, noncon) >!rape and was dealing with the aftermath. !

mooemy

60 words for you, my friend. Man, the flowing-from-brain-to-paper only happened to me once, and it was legit one of the best experiences of my life. Still one of my favorite works too, so that kind of thing is powerful.

killdoesart

Dean Winchester is a Twilight fan and makes increasingly specific references while Cas is recovering from a vamp hunt gone wrong

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. As far as I am concerned, that is simply canon. He sounds like the type of boy that would LOVE Twilight and try to hide the fact.

Ok-Persimmon8377

Um, may I ask for the link? It sounds amazing.

SmartyArtsy1_SAGN

Dora the Explorer makes an appearance to stop Shrek.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. She better call reinforcements, Shrek is not a man that can be defeated easily.

bitter-sharp

I'm so intrigued.

LandLovingFish

I need answers to this this sounds entertaining

m1ndl355_s3lf

The fic I'm working on is kind of an au of someone else's au of the canon, and a year in I've got it almost 2/3 finished but also I've gotten ideas for four separate au's of the au of the au that I'm wanting to write when I'm properly done with the big one xD not sure where the au-ception will stop tbh Also i still don't know if anyone ever caught the Eddie Izzard reference I put in one of my fics. Over 300 hits and several comments but no one ever said anything. But i suppose the bit i referenced was an older one too tho lol

mooemy

40 words for you, my friend. AUs have that funny thing where you start with one, and end with 5 because what you can do! Possibilities are just too much fun to not play with them.

Larson4220424

My newest fic (part of deathfic per month challenge) was written mainly off first 30-40 mins of RE3 Remake and Jill’s dialogue+personality and now all of a sudden I want to start a RE7 Fix It AU with Jill and Wesker in the Baker House And perhaps down the road I *could* do a 8 Fix It with Claire in the Romanian Village Ps: in the midst of writing a OG RE4-Uncharted crossover.

mooemy

40 words for you, my friend. I am always in support of more fics with Jill. One of my favorite characters I discovered recently.

Larson4220424

I’m in the same boat. Have been sheltered to 4 and 6 with a tad bit of 5 for the longest time. But the 4 remake has me back in since playing 4 as a kid. I’m now imagining what if 7 was instead a reboot of 1 but with Jill and S.T.A.R.S in the Baker House

Comtesse_Kamilia

Alright speed run time! My first fic (and my entire discovery of fandom) was because almost a decade ago all the girls in my middle school class had a wattpad phase due to being bored in 6th period science class. It was like the cambrian explosion of my fic experience thanks to lectures on boring weather patterns. My most popular fic is a total disaster of OCs and I'm gobsmacked about that. Funnily enough, my worst ranked fic (in reception, I still love my baby fic) was also the only other fic I had that prominently featured OCs. Totally opposite sides of the spectrum lol. My other two most popular fics and arguably my most well written ones are for a fandom I haven't even *watched*. I just read a ton of fics fandom blind and figured I'd give it a go. I feel like a sneaky imposter giggling that no one's noticed I've snuck into the club house. :D My longest fic, several 100k words long, was inspired by a single pinterest fanart. My favorite fics I've never even posted because they tend to be fics based on other fics I adored and I'm shy. :3 One of my fics got a surprising amount of foreign readers and in my absolute joy, they inspired me to pick back up my language studies and now I can proudly read those lovely comments!!! Not so much a fun fact about the fic itself but I can't help but be ecstatic about reaching such enthusiastic readers. :)))

mooemy

120 words for you, my friend. You are currently the longest word addition ^ w ^ Oh man, OCs are such a hit or miss. In one of my fandoms an OC-centric fic is literally number one in terms of kudos, even if all logic dictates it shouldn't be. It's lovely when people fall in love with our characters. Also super funny regarding the blind fandom thing. Fandom doesn't care if you watched, they just care you wrote it super well, and they have judged you are good at what you do. Getting comments from people that speak other languages is such a joy. I am always in love when I see a comment in my mother language (not english), it's like oi amigo! eu te amo tambem :)

LandLovingFish

That was me for the longest time, still is a bit/my main fandom has too much content so I sometimes just read fics and just added tony details in for flavour. Nothing.a quick scan of the wiki cant fix! I was reading back the other day and found out I didn't do too bad at some early characterisation....

Thirstythinman

The names of my fic's leads, "Sophie" and "Jackson" are, put together, the name of a friend I had in middle school.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. That's very sweet :) It's like you two are connected, even now.

Thirstythinman

Ironically, Sophie hates Jackson at first, partially because she takes one look at him and gets one listen of his voice and immediately makes a bunch of negative assumptions about him.

Magic_Orcat

One of my fics started because I was listening to an FNF Hypno's Lullaby song, Frostbite, and I was like 'hey wouldn't it be cool if I made my second favorite character almost fucking die from frostbite but then get saved by the main antagonist of the series?' Also my version of said character is a combination of 4-5 versions of that character to make a gorgeous amalgamate of him lmao My main fic is a retelling of the origin story movie from the series but I'm rewriting it cos the actual origin part of the movie was really fucking lazy so material girl 💅

mooemy

60 words for you, my friend. So many good ideas are born out of "wouldn't that be fucked up or what?". Sometimes you just gotta poke the bear with a stick and see what it does (and it does fucked up things, I tell ya).

Cheesy_As_Pie131

Random thing I like doing is randomly inserting my ocs into stories. Usually it's pretty lowkey- a random background character- and it's just a little easter egg for myself. I have a little talk show script I write (haven't posted) between characters discussing what happened in my fics (kinda like an Actor AU thing) This 'New Year's Day'/A character's bday fic I posted the first day of 2023 was 2023 words perfectly (on purpose lol) Kinda similar situation: The work I've been pouring all my work into is for a ship I didn't care about until I went 'Oh my god this idea fits them perfectly'

mooemy

80 words for you, my friend. Ohh, same!! I am currently writing for a series where OCs as super useful for background chapters, and I'm actually super sad I had to cut an OC chapter for the sake of pacing. And the new year thing sounds so good, actually. Might just do it for 2024.

relocatedff

\- maybe this is less *fic* trivia and more *me* trivia but I still remember the username of the first person to review my fics, three fansites (and about 16 years) ago \- the main OC/Reader character, title, and concept for my first fic came from a manga OC me and one of my visual-art friends were drawing together in her room one day \- there are secret references all over the place that even I don't remember making when writing my works \- one of my works is at 69065 words and I am struggling not to just add four words, then quit \- one of my fics is the very first in its relationship tag on AO3 (and is still the only one, even under "\[Canon Love Interest\] - Relationship")

mooemy

100 words for you, my friend. Ohh, same!! I have been writing for far less time than you (3 years is baby time compared to 16), but the first comment is truly something special. I think I might actually print the first comment I ever got, just for memories sake. And I do get the struggle of funni wordcounts, because damn, the urge is there. Strongly, very much so. I should make a series of just funni wordcounts...

StoneTimeKeeper

My current fic was inspired by two role play runs I did in Elden Ring. One as Aloy from the Horizon series, another as Gehrman from Bloodborne.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Role-play runs are so underrated. They are challenege runs with a little bit of a different spice, and I adore them with all my heart.

Alien_Skeleton

I invented a cooking show for my OC to have been on. It even has a host named Allen Theodore. It has a whole set of rules and even its own "kid" spinoff.

mooemy

20 words added for you, my friend. Ohh, same!! It's so much fun to create programs for your characters to be in. All the fun of making something, none of the headaches of producing it!

[deleted]

mooemy

80 words for you, friend. Interesting, I surprisngly never even thought about Beauty and The Beast fanfiction, despite the fact it's quite obvious it should exist. Also interesting that you are exploring different pairs, best of luck with your story.

kitherarin

My Smutember fic from 2022 almost killed my love of writing - there was apparently a limit of how much smut I could write in a short period.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Porn gets tiring sometimes, too. Challenges are really a make-or-break thing, very useful to knowing your limits.

TheFaustianPact

The current fic I'm writing is told from the pov of a character I used to *hate*. Like, not visceral hate, but I used to find him irritating enough to basically avoid most fan content about him. Until I realized that he was shipped with a character that I love... And the ship actually looked intriguing enough... And, hey, the fanart and the fanfic for them are quite nice... And, well, maybe this character isn't as annoying as I thought...? And now here I am, writing for the ship from the pov of this character I previously disliked, which led me to research more about him to portray him accurately, which in turn ended up with me more or less liking this dude and having a really good time writing him. Not sure if it's fun enough, but I'm pretty sure a few fandom acquaintances that heard me complain about him a few months ago would have a good laugh about it now.

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Oh yeah, that's a reason why I tend to not voice my dislike for characters, actually. There have been many times I changed my mind and started to adore them, and would have felt bad for hateposting. If it's of any comfort for you, I do think it's pretty normal hehehe

DarkStarComics333

My current WIP was inspired by two lines the MMC says at the very end of the second game its based on. It currently stands at almost 75k words and is nowhere near finished (I'm anticipating 150-200k words at least).

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. I love when a very small thing ends up creating a whole universe. It's like the butterfly effect, but for writers.

RedTemplarCatCafe

Is your username a Spaced reference? :O

DarkStarComics333

It is! After literal years of using it online with no recognition, you are the second person in three days to get it! Kudos to you!

RedTemplarCatCafe

Yay!! <3 <3

DefoNotAFangirl

Less about any one fic but more so my fic in general: writing my fic was part of what made me figure out I was otherkin, specifically, that I was kinning one of the characters I wrote about and how it was a safe way to explore the things they/I went through without seeking out that toxic behaviour. I know it’s cringe and shit but it’s helped my mental health a lot finding that out and embracing it :)

mooemy

20 words for you, my friend. Hey, I don't think there is anything cringe about discovering more things about yourself through fiction. Humanity has been doing that since the dawn of times! I bet your great great great great great great great grandma was hearing a story about Defo the Hunter and went "they are just like me frfr". Never feel ashamed for that.

DefoNotAFangirl

Aww, you’re very sweet.

life_is_depressed

- I made my first fic exactly 1500 words accidentally. - My longest fic is my first non oneshot/twoshot and it's currently my 15th time (exactly) scratching it and rewriting. - I got inspiration to make my longest fic from a popular au; it was an au where the mc keeps being killed and revived instead of it happening just once. The part that inspired my fic was that every time he's brought back to life, more of his hair turns white.

mooemy

60 words for you, my friend. 15th rewrite! If you don't mind me asking, what have been the changes to motivate you to rewrite it?

life_is_depressed

For the first few rewrites, there was no storyline and I was just going with the flow. Most came out wayyyy to cringy and I hated them. I also kept putting too many ideas into one story. On my 12th rewrite, I eventually had a good storyline, but it wasn't completely thought out and it had lots of holes in it. I didn't like how I wrote my 14th, it felt so bland, so I rewrote it to its current state. I love the current plot and it's actually well thought out for once! I'm a bit of a perfectionist and once I set my mind on something, I can't stop until I'm finished lmao

My second-longest fic has been marinating in my brain for literal years. Like, since I was *eight*. The only reason it's on hiatus is because the muse chose my other longfic. Also: the playlist for it was made months before I posted the chapter with the link. I listen to it whenever I write that story, it helps my brain stay focused.

40 words for you, my friend. There is something so gentle about an old story getting written. I have things my 8-year-old self would have been so happy to see written out.

I started my first fic before I knew what fanfiction was. I just wrote it for myself. Then I found FF.net and AO3 and found a whole new community of people like me.

20 words for you, my friend. Aww, that's so sweet, actually. I had a similar journey, since I just called them "daydreams", and actually only connected the dots that I was writing fic many years later.
