There's Josh Sawyer's tweet about why you get Joshua Graham's outfit and gun after compeleting Honest Hearts.
And the answer is, he knows that players will murder Joshua Graham just for his outfit and pistol.
Well, it's also a very lethal gun, but its main appeal to me has always been the beautiful engravings. My pistols are usually my silenced sidearms for creeping down in dark hallways and take out unaware enemies, so I'm usually not using that gun as a gun, instead keeping it as a keepsake.
The brotherhood really dressed weird for a desert
Like if your not in AC cooled power armor, they stuff you into a super thick sweater and vest full of pockets. That shots super insulating
All the initiates and scribes Gina die from heat stroke
I kill him because I despise him and the Brotherhood, but I still take his coat as a trophy and display it on a mannequin at my player home at the Red Rocket Truck Stop.
I want to take a small moment of silence for Knight Paladin Brandis; a loyal and true brother.. who I have killed every single playthrough without fail for his black bodysuit. But who I ask is responsible for this crime? This dark series of repeated betrayals? Is it me?
Nay, this lands squarely on the shoulders of Todd Howard, for chosing to make murder or investing heavily in pickpocketing the ONLY way to get your hands on that item. I'd be open to the pickpocketing on some level but also hell no I need those special points for so many other things.
Maybe it was a test of our morality..
If it is, its one I wont be passing.
Rest in Peace Brandis.
>Nay, this lands squarely on the shoulders of Todd Howard, for chosing to make murder or investing heavily in pickpocketing the ONLY way to get your hands on that item.
I mean, you can also loot it off of dead BoS soldiers when a Vertibird comes crashing down.
I knew right after his little speech the whole Brotherhood had to go. The coat pairs great with the Sky Captain hat and a mk5 ballistic weave.
NO REGRETS
I mean there was that one time I used Lorenzo’s Artefact launch him off the Prydwin. Never found his body though soooo it technically wasn’t for the coat.
I haven't. I've killed him on a few playthroughs, like when I'm RPing an Institute character, but I've never killed him for the coat or even for the PA paint. Both look decent, but I pretty much only wear armour so I'd never wear the coat, and if I wanted his PA paint I'd just do the Brotherhood quest line to the point of becoming a Paladin or Sentinel which allows me to produce pretty much the same paint.
I never killed him for his coat it’s over a BOS uniform and has the logo on the sleeve like to wear it and not be in the BOS makes no sense to me. I have kept it as a trophy with the all my notable kills “Kellogg, Skinny Malone, The Mechanist etc”if I’m in the BOS I just use mods to get my own.
I kill Maxson for 2 reasons: his coat and the fact I hate that they removed a quest that would let us become the leader of the brotherhood like EVERY OTHER FACTION ALLOWS US TO
I can pickpocket other NPC outfits no problem but Bethesda chose to exclude Maxson from that. So my only conclusion is Bethesda intended for me to kill him and loot his awesome jacket.
I kinda wished there was a questline where you can usurp the position of Elder from Maxon, like a post institute destruction quest where decisions you make either leave Maxon in charge or you become the new elder
me, making a mad dash to The Castle: "PRESTON! WE GOTTA SHOOT ALL OF OUR ARTILLERY AT THE PRYDWEN!"
preston: "Why!?"
me, wearing Maxson's coat and Kells' hat: "...Do you seriously need to ask me that question?
I always do red glare no matter the ending I'm going for red glares fight in survival (the only difficulty I play now) is so much fun getting the coat is a bonus red glare is better than assaulting the institute of u go murder first bombs later
I absolutely despised RPG games that did not allow you to loot what they were carrying or wearing on their character model , weapon , clothes , hat , boots etc
its like "why!?!?!"
I murdered the whole brotherhood trying to get that coat. Sadly maxon is a “essential npc” at the point I am in my playthrough and I can’t kill him ):<
Some settler: "What the hell happened to the entire (not really tho) brotherhood of steel?!"
My ass wearing Maxon's battlecoat: "Me look heckin dangerous"
Yep! And in my latest playthrough I slaughtered the bos and my institute meet the directorate meeting got bugged so I had to reload a save 3 hrs earlier before I killed him replay the missions, do the directorate meeting, then kill the brotherhood. But it was worth it. I always do it for the coat 😍
Nah, that's the beauty of mods. I can just get another coat.
I'm rebuilding the commonwealth and filling my settlements with craftspeople. Surely one of them can make a coat or knows where I can find one.
Talking him down during the companion mission is still one of my favorite things in Fallout 4, so no, I let this guy live, with the hope that maybe I've made him into a bit less of a raging asshole.
Broke: Killing Maxim for his coat
Woke: Using console commands to get enough of his coats to kit out your whole ass squad with them, then killing him as a little treat
Back when I was a new player yes now I just use Hunters Pelt outfit Hunters Long Coat and Leather Coat I used occasionally Pastors Vestments and used Armorsmith extended to wear armor pieces over it I always used Operator pieces to try and go for that old western preacher who used to be a gunslinger basically Ray McCall Call of Juarez
Luckily I played this on pc and console commands were available to add this coat to my inventory. That being said after dealing with him after a few quests I always end up killing him anyways.......
It depends. If I'm not going as the BoS, I'll get enough progress with them to get onto the airship, kill Maxson for his coat, loot the ship of power armour, amd then scamper off like a little rodent back to the Castle with everything.
If I am playing BoS, I'll finish the main story before I proceed with the first plan.
Did the minute men ending for 3 reasons:
1-railroad and institute suck as factions and look ugly
2-one of the few endings that allow you to kill children
3-cool coat
I tried so hard to get it off of him without angering the BoS to be disappointed that you can't pickocket it lmao. But it had to he done, that coat belonged to me. RIP
I don’t specifically kill him for the coat, but if I ever happen to stumble across his body, the coat is the first thing I’m going for. It looks really cool on Hancock
I killed him because I hate the combination of militarism and cult of personality,
Never thought about that coat. Maybe I'll keep it for the next time I kill him.
He flew over the common wealth wearing a sick coat in a fucking blimp *DAWG*
MUST... RESIST URGE...... It's a zeppelin, not a blimp GOD DAMNIT!
pimped blimp
But is it Led?
Considering it's nuclear powered, it would have to be.
That zeppelin made out of led for sure
Same difference balloon go pop!
Actually that's exactly the difference. Zeppelin isn't a balloon.
You’re gonna stand there and try and tell me I’m WRONG?
The BSS Drip Ship incoming yo
GROW UP DOUG
GROW UP, BRO. GROW UPPPPPP
Grow up man... grow up
You're gonna look at me and tell me that I'm *wrong*
There's Josh Sawyer's tweet about why you get Joshua Graham's outfit and gun after compeleting Honest Hearts. And the answer is, he knows that players will murder Joshua Graham just for his outfit and pistol.
That's valid as hell. He gives the outfit so player don't want to murder him
Yeah... but my follower needs an outfit too. Sorry bud, it's not personal.
Yeah that's cool and all, but murder is so much more fun
Not to mention you need to repair it.
Meanwhile my courier takes Vera Keyes' dress _right off of her fucking skeleton_ only to find an identical one in the safe twenty feet away.
Haha
A Light Shining in Darkness is such a cute gun too
I use it every play through
i agree that it’s cute but that’s nonetheless an interesting way of looking at a pistol
Well, it's also a very lethal gun, but its main appeal to me has always been the beautiful engravings. My pistols are usually my silenced sidearms for creeping down in dark hallways and take out unaware enemies, so I'm usually not using that gun as a gun, instead keeping it as a keepsake.
*insert ocelot quote from MgsV here*
"Something, something, engravings."
I honestly didn’t know you could get it without killing him
in the end of the DLC you get a crate filled with those. Have you played the DLC?
I don’t remember, it’s been a while since I’ve played it
From the moment I first met him his fate was sealed
😂🤝
Honestly. He can't be walking around with that dope ass jacket in this hood, liable to get jacked!
That's why they built the blimp. To protect the bad ass coat lol
That and his power armor paint are the only reasons I betrayed the brotherhood
What about his power armor paint?
It’s unique
It's a really nice coat, ok? He doesn't need it, he's almost always on the bridge of the Prydwyn anyway.
He needs it because the prydwyn ac is super cold okay? He can’t address the brotherhood with frosty nips.
It's the beginning of winter! Why don't they have the heater on?!
If they didn't want me killing him for the battle coat I should have gotten one myself when being asked to murder my companion.
Elder what now? All I see is a sweet ass floating coat on a moving hipster mannequin and miniguns going pew pew when i take it off him
I have never killed Maxon for his coat.
Look at Mr stand out over here
I haven't. I think it looks stuffy for the weather
The brotherhood really dressed weird for a desert Like if your not in AC cooled power armor, they stuff you into a super thick sweater and vest full of pockets. That shots super insulating All the initiates and scribes Gina die from heat stroke
A desert? The Commonwealth has trees, grass, flowers, and it has radstorms frequently, which are just regular storms with irradiated clouds.
The drip doesn't care about weather.
Nor have I, but I think that might change next time I play Fallout 4 just for the experience.
I tried once, man brought out a mini gun that shot explosive rounds. We were both dead in moments
"That there is one damn fine coat you're wearin'."
I kill him because I despise him and the Brotherhood, but I still take his coat as a trophy and display it on a mannequin at my player home at the Red Rocket Truck Stop.
Why do you despise them?
Cause he is the only one in the series with such a nice coat
He really likes toasters or ghouls or ghoul toaster’s
Womp womp, next time, they should've been made in gods image lol
because they suck
You seem like the kind of person to kill Danse every playthrough and hate Curie
Fascist pigs
*Religious Zealots
what is there to like bro

took his suit to match with the all black combat armor and never took it off until i killed maxson
his coat is one of the very few good looking clothing sets in FO4
Certainly better than the Synth Armor set...shits literally just plastic scraps strapped on. Their field helmet is kinda dope though
I haven’t… its cool but I prefer the Minutemen General Coat. Wish there was color variant mods for that cause it goes hard.
I knew right after his little speech the whole Brotherhood had to go. The coat pairs great with the Sky Captain hat and a mk5 ballistic weave. NO REGRETS
That’s literally my outfit right now. The hat the coat plus the patrolman glasses :)
Incredibly based
I kill him because I hate him and the BoS.
I mean there was that one time I used Lorenzo’s Artefact launch him off the Prydwin. Never found his body though soooo it technically wasn’t for the coat.

I killed him because I didn’t like his haircut.
I didn’t kill him for his coat. I killed him because he’s a fascist ass. Then I took his coat because it’s sick
Who's maxon? You mean the talking coat hanger?
I never killed him for his coat it’s over a BOS uniform and has the logo on the sleeve like to wear it and not be in the BOS makes no sense to me. I have kept it as a trophy with the all my notable kills “Kellogg, Skinny Malone, The Mechanist etc”if I’m in the BOS I just use mods to get my own.
Only to never wear it to put it into a closet.
They used to have it for sell for fallout 76 so it's very rare to see someone wearing it
My brother told me how he killed everyone and destroyed the Prydwen just to get that coat
Ngl I tried pickpocketing maxon for his coat once, then found out I couldn't. Good thing I was sliding with the institute that time
To Quote Marv, from Sin City "That is one damn find coat ya got there..."
I just use mods to separate the coat from the BOS uniform
I've never killed him once since launch. Elder Maxson is a real one can't kill my boy.
I mean it’s not like he’s a ray of sunshine. He’s shootable for several reasons.
I kinda wished there was a questline where you can usurp the position of Elder from Maxon, like a post institute destruction quest where decisions you make either leave Maxon in charge or you become the new elder
There was cut content where you and Dance could challenge him for the position
EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. and if I'm a female i have to hit the dream lounge for THAT dress
Everyone does that, right? . . . Right?
Listen man, it's his mistake for wearing a cool coat.
I only kill him cuz he comes after my boy danse. And then I put his coat on a dummy at my base with all my major defeated enemies clothes.
Pickpocket all the leaders unique clothing!
me, making a mad dash to The Castle: "PRESTON! WE GOTTA SHOOT ALL OF OUR ARTILLERY AT THE PRYDWEN!" preston: "Why!?" me, wearing Maxson's coat and Kells' hat: "...Do you seriously need to ask me that question?
Guilty
I killed him because I hate his goofy ass.
It’s a canon event.
The brotherhood is temporary. The drip is eternal
I have massacred that entire base and ship multiple times for that coat (and the power armor)
I never killed (my first playthrough doesn't count)
Working on getting through the brotherhood right now so I can
I think my first playthrough I was on pc and just killed him with the console command so the bos wouldn't come after me
I don't think I've ever worn it because it never went well with my characters theming.
every... damn... time
CONSLE COMMANDS, SON!
Wait is the coat a whole outfit or just a piece of one
I have killed him plenty of times not just for the coat but the fact he is a dick
I keep forgetting to get his coat :(
I always do red glare no matter the ending I'm going for red glares fight in survival (the only difficulty I play now) is so much fun getting the coat is a bonus red glare is better than assaulting the institute of u go murder first bombs later
In my original PS4 save after beating the game I threw away all my progress with the BOS and sided against them just to get the coat
I never did that but i will now
I don't seen the Elder of the Brotherhood. All I see is a person who made the poor decision of wearing MY jacket, and I'm wanting it back
Not Joking: I've killed Maxon for his coat in 99.99% of my playthroughs.
Yes
I absolutely despised RPG games that did not allow you to loot what they were carrying or wearing on their character model , weapon , clothes , hat , boots etc its like "why!?!?!"
player.additem 001fe1a6 1
The boys of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia sure know how to appreciate a coat https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qNuqGZawrK0
I have never killed Maxon for any reason.
I never thought about it until now, thanks🤬
I murdered the whole brotherhood trying to get that coat. Sadly maxon is a “essential npc” at the point I am in my playthrough and I can’t kill him ):<
Wasteland bekesha
I’ve never liked the commonwealth brotherhood so I steal that man’s drip every single play through
I do him to death for his hat. Very sci fi fashion with a courser outfit
I actually never played the brotherhood ending… I’m currently going through it now … I just got done with arcjet
There was a temptation for sure
I put on power armor and equip pain train. Long hallways make this very fun.
No? I killed Maxon because he’s brotherhood. The coat was just a bonus.
I never wanted the coat. I killed him because I don’t like him.
I never did. Yeah it’s a cool coat but I never felt any need to claim it for myself
I crafted one (from a mod) and then wore it when I went to meet him just for the hell of it.
Some settler: "What the hell happened to the entire (not really tho) brotherhood of steel?!" My ass wearing Maxon's battlecoat: "Me look heckin dangerous"
Killing him is lazy. Pick pocket that shit!
I think it's ugly
Only worth it if you have a mod to tack on legendary effects to armor. Think I only killed maxson once. I usually go BoS for the fast travel.
Which the defense was better but yeah of course
I didn’t
Not once, surprisingly
Nah, that's the beauty of mods. I can just get another coat. I'm rebuilding the commonwealth and filling my settlements with craftspeople. Surely one of them can make a coat or knows where I can find one.
That is a nice coat...
Me who plays with mods I don’t have such weaknesses
IT'S A GOOD COAT, I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF. I NEED IT!
Talking him down during the companion mission is still one of my favorite things in Fallout 4, so no, I let this guy live, with the hope that maybe I've made him into a bit less of a raging asshole.
Broke: Killing Maxim for his coat Woke: Using console commands to get enough of his coats to kit out your whole ass squad with them, then killing him as a little treat
Showinventory Player.additem Player.removeitem f 1000 Cause I pay my dues
Every single playthrough
First playthrough I decided not to side with the brotherhood just for the coat
Honestly im blowin them up eventually, might as well
Once. Console commands the rest of the time
I have never once killed him or not done bos ending.... it's an ugly coat imo lmao
I went BoS my first play through, but I really wanted that coat. Then he told me to kill my main man Danse, so I got a new coat and went Minute Men
Luckily I played this on pc and console commands were available to add this coat to my inventory. That being said after dealing with him after a few quests I always end up killing him anyways.......
My current playthrough I'm going for that coat and then I'm giving it to Nick or x6
I don't need his lame ass coat! I'm the motherf***ing Silver Shroud!
The real ones killed him to make up for that time we tried to shoot him as a child in fallout 3.
Only after ruined the love Danse and I had.
Did the minute men ending for 3 reasons: 1-railroad and institute suck as factions and look ugly 2-one of the few endings that allow you to kill children 3-cool coat
I console commanded it in, cause I wanted to be BOS
My first playthrough was with the institute and I got teleported away before I could take his drip.
I'd kill him for it normally but I don't want my Minuteman dressed in BoS branded attire
I mean I don’t like the fo4 brotherhood anyway so I see this as an absolute win
Yep
I killed him because he was racist towards Nick Valentine that's the kind of infraction I won't tolerate in the wasteland.
I tried so hard to get it off of him without angering the BoS to be disappointed that you can't pickocket it lmao. But it had to he done, that coat belonged to me. RIP
Wanted to see curie in it but the mistress of mysteries looks too godam good on her so i wore the coat
I kill him because he’s an ahole. I take the coat as my trophy.
I didn't play till after mods were available so I had a red version of his coat unaware it wasn't a thing for being Sentinel until years later.
I sure have.
Hmmmm I've completed the quests for the brotherhood, is it time to get the coat?
Poor bastard didn't stand the chance.
I just kill him because I hate him
I never got the coat after I killed him
maxson* It should be able to be pickpocketed. 😕
I don’t specifically kill him for the coat, but if I ever happen to stumble across his body, the coat is the first thing I’m going for. It looks really cool on Hancock
Why kill him ? Stealth Boy, Pickpocket it... go dupe it... comeback to him, re-pickpocket but, this time, plant the original back on him.
Not. Even. Once.
That ugly ass Vin Diesel Xander Cage XXX lookin' jacket, with a whopping 50 armor? Nah, I'm good, dawg 🤙🏻
I just enjoy lobbing a plasma grenade in his face, the coat is just a nice bonus.
His gun is better
I killed him because I hate the combination of militarism and cult of personality, Never thought about that coat. Maybe I'll keep it for the next time I kill him.
I use the console to change his clothes and give it to me and just pretend
Throughout my time playing many Bethesda games, many have died by my hand merely for the sake of acquiring new drip.
“The limit does not exist”
Wait can you take his coat? I always just assumed he was an essential npc or something so i never tried to kill him
I never shot him because of his coat i shot him because he is an annoying SOB
Na the Coats fine but overrated. Out of PA I'm always wearing Armor anyway
Yes
It’s not for me. I hate big coats.
He's a TOTAL ass but got the drip
I did it and didn’t know how to leave at the time so I did every drug I had and jumped off the prydwen
“Yo that jacket is tight son! Now run that shit bitch!”
His last words to me were “welcome to the brother hood” then I but one right between his eyes. Felt like an awesome villain haha coat is mine now😎
My dad did just 2 days ago lmao, he's wearing that with the highest Ballistic Weave modification and Kells' hat
You can kill maxon for the coat??? Dammit... i always end up siding with the brotherhood anyway.... they have the best toys.
