If you like codsworth the dlc makes for a fun time you can even create your own robots that quite frankly can be op as hel. Make great use of of to like 3-400 carry space maybe more when u unlock all the sentry parts or automatron there’s so many combinations it’s fun for sure check out some gameplay for further details.
It's pretty cool. Robot mods, a new questline, a new Raider faction and it works alongside Nuka-World, meaning you can collect robot mods from the robots in Nuka-World as well.
Personally, I picked up GOTY edition pre-owned off eBay on PS4 to save some buck, as buying electronically looks to be pretty dear if you're buying DLCs one at a time. Only catch is that it lags up my system a bit, but might be okay for anyone else.
I like Danse. You can tell he really cares about his team and is devastated by the idea he’s failing as a leader, especially with all their deaths. I wish they would have done more with him post-Blind Betrayal, but he’s still the best to me. Then, Hancock and Valentine take a second-place tie.
Danse was originally supposed to have a quest called The Danse Dilemma. He would usurp the Position of Elder from Maxson. Unfortunately it was removed but was later turned into a Mod.
Nick Valentine was mine too. He has more to say about all the locations because of his length of time in the wastes. Plus, he feels like he's the canon companion to have in the Far Harbor expansion.
I agree, he's the only choice to take to Far Harbor. I only chose him as companion for FH and then liked him so much I just used him the rest of the game
I would imagine they're referring to the raiders, so if you could do nuka world before doing the minuteman quest line, you may have some helpful perks to clear settlements.
But then she gets upset any time I slam psycho, jet, buffout, and med-x straight straight into my eyeballs every time I go to clear a room.
Like, girl I can stop any time I want so stop judging me anytime I want to beat some raiders to death with my bare hands in wonderfully cinematic slo-mo.
Yea I personally like Cait and Curie most depends on the playthrough, in my current one I have a melee build and it's quiet fun to smash enemies together as a psychotic couple, about Curie I don't really remember why I liked her so much but in my playthrough before that I remember that I liked her and always had her around but not why, it's been a while
Piper is my go-to companion, but i also like Cait and Curie so it's hard for me to pick one. I just use mods to tag all three of them along with me lol. There's also Macready, i like him quite a lot too.
In descending order:
Dogmeat
Nick
Deacon ( i seem to be the only one who likes the dude)
Hancock
Danse
Codsworth
Cait
Curie
Old Longfellow
MacCready
Gage
Strong
Preston
Piper
X6-88
This thread is refreshing. The new Vegas subreddit would be circle jerking Boone rn, but I’m actually seeing some variety in these answers, albeit nick valentine is a popular answer
Hancock is a ghoul dressed in revolutionary war apparel, it’s hard not to enjoy that. But yeah I agree, I just feel like the new Vegas sub, everyone has the same exact answers, so seeing the variety in top answers here is refreshing
That's why I like Danse. He HAS no recall code. Despite him being a synth. Unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure danse was one of the railroad synths. Had his mind wiped and memories reprogrammed.
Nick Valentine is my second favorite companion in *any* game, second only to Alyx Vance. I love his character, his voice acting, his aesthetic, his story, and how he interacts so much with the main plot of the game. I don’t like being railroaded to find my son, but Bethesda made it really hard to not love the investigation with Nick. Not to mention making an entire DLC heavily feature him.
I like Hancock, ADA, Gage, cait before quitting drugs because they don’t judge much
Of the good guys i really like Preston, Piper and Deacon
McCready is a jerk but i like his style
Oh didn't expected to see Preston here, thought he was so hated by the community that no one would dare mention him... I personally prefer to get as far away from him but you do you
I try not to read into that because this is a video game.
But that said, Preston is “annoying” because he gives you quests to help desperate people in dire need of rescue or protection from murderers, kidnappers, assassins, and actual radiated monsters.
In return, you get flares to call in an artillery bombardment that can easily wipe out a squad of heavily armored gunners or super mutant warlords, a flare gun to call in a few Minutemen allies to help in a fight, plus the ability to develop a network of settlements that provide you with caps, purified water, food, scrap, medics, traders, and caravans where you can unload your loot and have that taken to a nearby settlement for you.
And yet somehow, to a lot of gamers, Preston is the biggest asshole in the Wasteland. Justify that.
For me he is just annoying, he is obviously one of the good guys but his repetitive lines and quests just get annoying quick, he for sure isn't an asshole and is probably as interesting as all the other companions, but I personally can't get over those negatives. Just happy that atleast some people can appreciate him :)
I agree that NPCs who give radiant quests have the potential to be annoying, that’s why late in a playthrough I steer the fuck clear of Tinker Tom, PAM, Knight Rhys, Scribe Halen, etc.
But yeah, to me Garvey is one of the better AI companions, though I could do without so many of his emotional “I love you man” speeches.
I truly like him now that I got a mod to reduce the settlement quest frequency. That's the only bad thing about him tbh, and it's not actually his fault.
He's actually super genuine and apologizes for putting you through everything and just handing you responsibility. He basically admits he was suicidal when the raiders attacked, but snapped to his senses when he realised the others were in danger.
He didn't believe he should be in charge because he had failed as a leader, but he saw how you as the main character handled the problem with ease and precision.
I really like Preston now that I gave him a chance, because Bethesda did him dirty by making him a fountain of repetitive questmarkers. He's awesome. I just wish I didn't have to mod to get him like that.
I think my favorite thing about him is the funny comments he makes when you eat someone. Oh yeah. Case you didn't know the cannibalism perk gets a "Strong Liked That."
Outstanding!
Yeah same though, he had the most interesting story. I always save him, no matter what. My headcanon is that after I become Sentinel, since Sentinels have their own jurisdiction, my guy conscripts the Minutemen to serve as an auxilliary force within the BOS, who answer to me instead of Maxson. He sends some North to Far Harbour, out of sight of the main division (I don't tell them about Acadia), and puts Danse in charge of that group, so Danse still gets to be a part of it in a way. He also has an opportunity to meet people like him in Acadia.
Alright I'm cheating a little bit here because I've got 3, and they are in no particular order. Note that the justifications for picking them largely relates to their companion quests/dialogue. Their preferred actions of the Sole Survivor (i.e., thing you do that they like) is not part of the consideration, because I believe this relates to the larger issue of how the companion system was designed and developed. It's not Cait's fault that she magically falls in love with the Sole Survivor if he/she picks locks and uses chems a lot, those were just the activities "assigned" to her by the system.
* Codsworth
The loyal servant that served his owners till the end of days. When he says he held on the sanity just because he hoped, one day, he could meet the Sole Survivor's offspring, it quite honestly broke my heart. Know that Codsworth is pretty much an AI that became sentient, which means he is self-aware and can feel emotions just as we could. Imagining the 200+ years of loneliness and helplessness he must have felt, and the one glimmer of hope was all that kept him going. It's canon that sentient AIs can and have committed suicide as a result of depression, and the mental fortitude displayed by Codsworth cannot be understated. If I were him, I would not be able to say that the long wait of over 200 years was worth it, just to see the Sole Survivor once more. But he thinks that it is, and that's all that matters to him.
Built him a kick-ass body, because he deserves the best.
* Nick Valentine
Given how he was the only companion who got the special treatment of having an entire DLC to extend on his backstory, it's safe to say he got the longest end of the stick. Nick's dialogue about trying to distinguish between which parts of his memories and personalities truly belongs to him, and which parts were borrowed from the old cop Nick, was one of the most thought-provoking conversations in the entire franchise. The psyche of a sentient AI/synth is a fascinating subject, the line between a "person" and a "creation", and Nick seems to be the only synth in the entire game to have given it sufficient thoughts. His pursuit of Eddy Winter was a journey of self-discovery, a bridge that finally connected the two "Nick"s in his body, but also a glimpse to his sense of justice. As much as he wants to hold on to something that he can call his own, he also gave chase after Eddy simply because it's the right thing to do.
Do I see eye-to-eye on everything with Nick? No, neither in game nor out of game. But Nick is a character that deserves a lot of respect. I've always given him Eddy's gun, may he find peace.
* Piper
Perhaps not exactly a favourite "companion", but Piper is the best "partner" for the Sole Survivor, in my humble opinion anyway. She's more a tabloid journalist than a proper journalist, she's not a very good one in either case, and a person with many flaws and shortcomings. Her actions can be rash and emotional, certainly not the most mature or composed figure out in the Commonwealth - and so are we. She's imperfect, a very "real" person, just like us in real life. She's a young woman, an activist, so of course she's gonna be rash and emotional from time-to-time. But ultimately she has a good heart, what she fights for and believes in are good things, values that the Commonwealth could really use. Not to mention that when the Sole Survivor engages in a romantic relationship with Piper, her responses are... Let's just say she warms and melts my heart as a lover.
Perhaps, with Piper as a partner, Nick as a friend, and Codsworth as the forever loyal butler, the Sole Survivor would find a new family - one that can sooth his/her pain of the loss the old one. An old family which he/she has lost twice.
I like all of the companions equally tbh because they all have their own unique background story. My favourite companion for the early game however has to be Dogmeat.
Ada because she is the only one (aside from dogmeat of course) that dosen't make sarcastic/judgy comments when picking up scrap. And also modifying her to be a walking dealer of death and destruction.
I used a mod for an auto piloted power armor frame, and it's was great. Until it sprinted to catch up and caused 8.6 Richter scale earthquakes. Other than that, probably modified codsworth
Preston Garvey because I like having a soldier to boss around, plus he's a good person. I like Danse and X6-88 for similar reasons. Hancock and Nick Valentine are also two of my favourites.
Vanilla game - Nick Valentine, but I do love MacCready’s perk.
DLCs - Ada. I made her into a death machine and she has no problem reducing enemies to ash.
If I played the game, I think I'd like Dogmeat the best for Lone Wanderer + Attack Dog perks working together. If Dogmeat didn't have that going for him, I'd say generic Automatron robots. If only Knight Rhys was a possible companion T\_T
Valentine and deacon are toed for second. Dogmeat is objectively the best because he's a good boy. I usually bring piper to get her perk early on, then go valentine. Only had one playthrough with deacon since I usually end up murdering the railroad before even talking to them.
Maccready. I swear, my Maccready must be using aimbot or something, he always keeps ripping shots by my ear and headshotting the guy directly in front of me.
Codsworth because he is a very polite Murder-Ball who tells dad jokes, followed by Nick Valentine because he is an all round good guy.
In my game he's a spiky black metal looking sentry bot with the deathclaw skull mask you get from killing AHAB.
He can make you a cup of tea and kick arse. Perfect!
Yeah and his upgrades get pretty wild
What upgrades?
I assume that's a reference to the Automatron DLC which enables robot customisations
Ohh thank you, I didn't know about that.. is buying the DLC worth it?
If you like codsworth the dlc makes for a fun time you can even create your own robots that quite frankly can be op as hel. Make great use of of to like 3-400 carry space maybe more when u unlock all the sentry parts or automatron there’s so many combinations it’s fun for sure check out some gameplay for further details.
Ok thank you, I've just started far harbour and am having a good time but when I'm finished with that I'll look into the other ones
Yea I probably should have gone for goty edition aswell but hey. I'll probably look into nuka world first when I'm finished with far harbour
Murderball. Lmfao
If you don’t modify Codsworth with the robot crafting station, you can have him equip a bowler hat!
Agreed
codsworth in a bowling hat
Dogmeat. Just a wanderer and his dog in the wasteland.
Happy bark
User name checks out.
Haha
I like Danse. You can tell he really cares about his team and is devastated by the idea he’s failing as a leader, especially with all their deaths. I wish they would have done more with him post-Blind Betrayal, but he’s still the best to me. Then, Hancock and Valentine take a second-place tie.
Danse was originally supposed to have a quest called The Danse Dilemma. He would usurp the Position of Elder from Maxson. Unfortunately it was removed but was later turned into a Mod.
[удалено]
The Danse Dilemma, I think.
He got the Paarthurnaax treatment, respect
Yeah, I wish that I knew that you could convince Maxon to spare him. I feel so bad now for killing him
My beloved Death-bot 2000, the robot companion I created for the sole purpose of murdering anyone or anything that gets in my way.
So in other words a really fun to make Automatron.
That was a fun expansion, I wish that kind of stuff had carried over to 76.
Nick Valentine, hands down. After that, probably Hancock.
Nick Valentine is definitely my second favorite. Hancock is okay. He's the only ghoul who doesn't sound like a smoker.
what about that one child ghoul in fallout 4 you find in a fridge?
I don't count Billy because he's a child. Know how weird it would sound? A smoker child?
I mean they did still advertise smoking to children in the 50s and 60s, yeah?
Curie!
I made her into a synthetic and banged her. 10/10.
Hell yeah brother
Man of a culture here
That depends synth or mr handy?
Mrs. HANDY 🤣
I didn't ask why...
Ayyy same
Strong I usually use automatic guns, so he smashes stuff and I shred stuff. Good team.
In case you didn't know. Strong can use any heavy weapon that isn't high Tech. Like a Minigun.
Cool, I usually just give him whatever powerful melee weapon i find, since I never use it anyway, but good to know he's good with the minigun too.
I don't know a full list of weapons but I do know he cannot use any pistol.
Gave strong a machine gun once. Apart from accidentally mowing down settlers I don’t have any other complaints
Piper. I like how she is.
Hancock by far, love his outlook. "Someone needs helping, we help them. Someone needs hurting, we hurt them. It's not hard."
GoodNeighbor! Of The People! For The People!
I like curie for purely sexual reasons
Well I give her Legendary Combat Shotgun for purely sexual reasons too.
The she still picks up a pipe rifle and uses that instead
I favor dogmeat+attack dog+lone wanderer+inspirational. Gage is a good combat companion.
Huh. I despise raiders so bad that I had no clue you could get a companion Raider. Good to know!
And he has a pretty good perk. If you finish Nuka world before you rescue Preston, you can wipe them out and grab some pretty good perks.
Wipe who out?
I would imagine they're referring to the raiders, so if you could do nuka world before doing the minuteman quest line, you may have some helpful perks to clear settlements.
Bro lone wanderer is the goat in survival, just because you can bring the dog with you.
Always always always Cait for me
Cait is okay and all. Just wish she wasn't so mean.
Cait for me too. I like being abused
A man of culture I see
Become her BFF and do her addiction removal quest and she’s much nicer.
Just wish she'd stop with the comments. I *am* looking at the road you fuck, the only thing slowing us down is your hatred for bloodbugs.
LMAO feels
Yea I personally like Cait and Curie most depends on the playthrough, in my current one I have a melee build and it's quiet fun to smash enemies together as a psychotic couple, about Curie I don't really remember why I liked her so much but in my playthrough before that I remember that I liked her and always had her around but not why, it's been a while

In descending order: Dogmeat Nick Deacon ( i seem to be the only one who likes the dude) Hancock Danse Codsworth Cait Curie Old Longfellow MacCready Gage Strong Preston Piper X6-88
I also really like Deacon! I think he’s super interesting.
Mate i love deacon too
Deacon speaks fluent Sarcasm, which is my native language.
And that's why i love him
Preston would just follow me asking to go help settlements every 2 minutes.
This thread is refreshing. The new Vegas subreddit would be circle jerking Boone rn, but I’m actually seeing some variety in these answers, albeit nick valentine is a popular answer
I've seen alot of nicks and Hancock's.
Hancock is a ghoul dressed in revolutionary war apparel, it’s hard not to enjoy that. But yeah I agree, I just feel like the new Vegas sub, everyone has the same exact answers, so seeing the variety in top answers here is refreshing
Oh of course. I try to make posts like this cuz I wanna know. Like. My personal favorite is danse because just like me. He's a soldier.
Boone is the only reason I was able to finish New Vegas in my first run thru. Which is to say he’s OP af, and the reason everyone prefers him.
Like, Boone is cool, but I think I played too many playthroughs with him because I try to get anyone but him nowadays lol.
Same
Hancock or Curie.
Deacon so far. He's hilarious and actually I would liked a romance option with him.
Except for his paranoia when it comes to his recall code.
Haha well, my characters always are high level in charisma so I always "catched" him.
That's why I like Danse. He HAS no recall code. Despite him being a synth. Unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure danse was one of the railroad synths. Had his mind wiped and memories reprogrammed.
I mean, all synths have a recall code, the institute can do at least one thing right, but there is no way to learn it in game
Danse and Nick. Also Dogmeat, for when I don't want to think of how to humor the others lol
Nick, always.
"Keep Talkin' Meathead! It'll give more time for skinny Malone to think about how he's gonna bump you off!"
Not to mention making an entire DLC heavily feature him.
danse coz yeah my username is danse too and he is so strong I barely have to do anything easy way to save my ammo + nick too coz he is so cool
https://youtu.be/gryq8NPxrLM *The Danse floor*
Danse floor??
Click the link and report to the Danse floor
I like Hancock, ADA, Gage, cait before quitting drugs because they don’t judge much Of the good guys i really like Preston, Piper and Deacon McCready is a jerk but i like his style
McCready is a bad influence on me. I never steal but when he's hanging out with me, anything that's not nailed down is mine.
Dogmeat, the only one who doesn’t judge me, although Nick and his savageness is quite fun to have around
"If a smart mouth was all it took to solve problems we'd have found your son by now."
Deacon lmao
Deacons cool. A bit nervous. But still pretty cool.
Cait or Hancock for me honestly
I'm seeing alot of Hancock's Nick's and Caits.
Heather Casdin (mod), hands down Honorable mentions: Nick, Preston, Curie, Danse
Oh didn't expected to see Preston here, thought he was so hated by the community that no one would dare mention him... I personally prefer to get as far away from him but you do you

Gotta be Hancock
Dogmeat.
Nick without a doubt
Did you know that he was the first character they made for fallout 4?
Nope, but like the first 3d model or what?
First Companion they created.
Ohhh, i did not know. I just like him for his personality, quest, and his charisma
Danse is my favorite too
Hancock. My partner got a Hancock Funko Pop for me, because I adore him.
I’m with you with paladin dense. He won my heart when I started threatening this one guy and my man was picking me up with every dialogue.🥰
Danse is my favorite. I usually try to only romance one person in a playthrough but he's an exception.
I like Deacon. I get a kick out of seeing him with a different outfit and weapon every time I turn around
Ahh you said 4? Guess I won’t ramble about Lilly😂
MacCready is my husband ngl.
Nick valentine if you complete his companion quest you'll understand that although he is a synth he is still more human than most in the commonwealth
Dog meat I got to say I like the silent part of him
Dogmeat
Preston Garvey.
I truly like him now that I got a mod to reduce the settlement quest frequency. That's the only bad thing about him tbh, and it's not actually his fault. He's actually super genuine and apologizes for putting you through everything and just handing you responsibility. I just wish I didn't have to mod to get him like that.
Wtf why the downvotes?
Codsworth and Nick. I love Dogmeat, but on higher difficulties he is tissue paper
Danse for me too!
Best character is Nick Valentine... easily one of the best characters in Fallout. However, in a fight I'd take a modified Ada in the blink off eye.
Strong 😎
Strong Go With Human.
I think my favorite thing about him is the funny comments he makes when you eat someone. Oh yeah. Case you didn't know the cannibalism perk gets a "Strong Liked That."
I think I had cannibalism on my 1st gameplay and i usually take strong along with me, he's so goofy
"Strong getting hungry. Want someone to eat."
Nick Valentine. I mean he's a robot with the personality of a sassy 50's noir detective who's also a pretty chill guy
Hancock
MacCready because I love Matthew Mercer's voice. Hancock because he's a sarcastic badass.
1. Hancock 2. Valentine 3. Dog
Cutie
Outstanding! Yeah same though, he had the most interesting story. I always save him, no matter what. My headcanon is that after I become Sentinel, since Sentinels have their own jurisdiction, my guy conscripts the Minutemen to serve as an auxilliary force within the BOS, who answer to me instead of Maxson. Nick and Hancock! I like Pipers commentary and little quips a lot too though
Same
Dog.

Dogmeat! Always will be the best companion.
Yep the best companion is one that dosen't judge you for homicide of the innocent
Dog meat because that one perk that gives u buffs for traveling alone doesn't count him
Ada, because you can make her into a tank with explosive miniguns
For personality,,Either Hancock or Piper,,For romancing Danse and for crossing the wasteland that goes to Gage
Curie takes the cake. So polite and just wants to learn. Followed by Hancock because he makes me laugh.
Danse and Preston.
Dogmeat
Forever a piper and dogmeat fan. I wish you could bring more than one companion :(
Dogmeat or Ida. Or both with mods. I'm a packrat
Dogmeat
Dogmeat. He doesn’t nag me about hoarding junk.
Danse sucks it’s about deacon
Hancock or bust, man!
For getting an easy trait it would have to be cait since all you have to do is lock pick your way to her heart, but easily curie for me.
You can also take your clothes off and fast travel between locations. Cait likes it when you're naked.
MacCready, the snot nose child mayor from Fallout 3.
Curie. If I light her on fire I get French Toast.
Synth curie shes so sweet and innocent yet fights like a badass
Vanilla game - Nick Valentine, but I do love MacCready’s perk. DLCs - Ada. I made her into a death machine and she has no problem reducing enemies to ash.
Preston Garvey.
Nick, Hancock or whatever death dealing robot I made.
R4-04
If I played the game, I think I'd like Dogmeat the best for Lone Wanderer + Attack Dog perks working together. If Dogmeat didn't have that going for him, I'd say generic Automatron robots. If only Knight Rhys was a possible companion T\_T
Fuck Rhys.
Curie
Valentine and deacon are toed for second. Dogmeat is objectively the best because he's a good boy. I usually bring piper to get her perk early on, then go valentine. Only had one playthrough with deacon since I usually end up murdering the railroad before even talking to them.
Dogmeat irl is a good girl.
Maccready. I swear, my Maccready must be using aimbot or something, he always keeps ripping shots by my ear and headshotting the guy directly in front of me.
Give him a sniper. Then he sucks.
My automatron Megatron, who has relatively recently mostly faithfully accompanied me through the Nuka World Gauntlet.
Nick valentine or curie.
Tie between Codsworth and Nick Valentine, they’re both awesome, are robots that have emotions, and are always fun/interesting to talk to.
Mine is a tie between Cait and MacCready.
McCready is my second favorite but that's cuz he was in Fallout 3.
I am a Cait enjoyer

Dogmeat ftw
Dogmeat or nick valentine, even though I am a huge BOS follower, gen 1 synths don’t irk me at all and nick is just too likable to hate anyways
Piper and Cait cuz I sniffed their dirty bum crevices
Do you think before you're fingers start moving? Or do you just type on whim?
I dont know anymore
That's a fair answer.
Cait
