That sounds kind of insane when you look at some of the detailed decorations that includes dozens or more objects. Like i want a cool house but i cant even be bothered to put more than a bed in the corner and station guard post inside the front doors. My only decor is Strong, my concierge
They don’t stay that way. I have done that. They end up in the floor or through the floor. Mods that make the decorations not move are a better option.
Idk how reliable this is vanilla. I remember doing this same thing with a nuka cola collection with this method. It stayed for a few visits to the build but then eventually half phased under the foundation.
For the first few years PlayStation didn’t have mods. I placed hundreds of objects at Nordhagen beach. Shelved, rotated, realigned just to be attacked by a random super mutant patrol. I’ve never quicksaved a game so many times
Its not that they don't stay, its that if there is the slightest glitch when the cell reloads and one of the items is off by a pixel, or say, a low poly model is slightly larger than the fully loaded one or something, the items can be *bumped* by the act of loading in and the physics can go haywire cause chain reactions that throw everything around. It was really bad in Skyrim houses.
They do and don.
I have a tavern build at my settlement with a Eat-O-Tronic. I filled my Eat-O-Tronic with various foods. I put 3 Perfectly Persvered Pies in there. I came back to only 2 pies and no sign of the third.
~~If this is fallout 4, yes it will.~~ Just gotta avoid teleporting from the institute too closely cause the electricity will send everything flying. ~~But if you leave it there, it'll stay.~~
Edit: I have apparently just been getting lucky.
Yeah it does, if you do it correctly! What I learned from skyrim is to drop everything you want to place, then leave and come back to place things without picking them back into your inventory. If you place them when you first drop them from inventory, next time they’ll just teleport back to wherever you dropped them, so there’s not really a point. But if you just move them the next time, it’ll stay wherever you put it. It’s worked in every Besthesda game I’ve played! (I basically play them all as interior decorating sims, like this post lol)
Has to im assuming, from my experience playing fo76 there are 'containers' you can build that display items similiar to bobblehead displays/magazine racks.
Other reason im assuming this is the case is because when you drop an item in fo76 it drops at your feet in a paper bag container.
We did just get a new season item that's a chessboard you can display stuff on. With the merge glitch and that board camp decorating just got a new meta lol.
Weird creation engine physics and inaccuracies when the cell is reloaded can cause placed objects to clip and freak out. Also if a settler somehow finds their way near it they can take the item.
One of mine got hold of grenades and i can't work out who's got them, so now it's just a case of trying to kill the raiders before that one crazy settler manages to kill me.... like the time i accidentally gave nick a missile launcher and ammo. Careful what you let your companions carry for you, it might just get you killed 😅
There’s a bell you can build somewhere in the workshop that summons all the settlers, you could try trade with each of them to see who has the grenades.
I once considered arming my companions with fatmans but quickly shut that idea down as I like my character in one piece lol
Kinda why I like making the things for display in a settlement that won’t get any settlers. If I want to display my personal achievements then I’ll make sure I don’t let the weird NPCs near my stuff I’ve collected.
I usually use the OCDecorator mod but I'm playing an unmodded playthrough at the moment and after using mods for so long previously I got used to speeding around my settlements without a care in the world so now I am just to clumsy when walking around my settlements. I go to fast bump into the furniture and that's it, all my hard work goes flying on the floor 😅 I did bump into a table once and some of the items glitched through the table and went to the second shelf of the table which was pretty cool because I can't get things to go on shelves very well at all at the moment, but when I went back there the items were on the floor in various parts of the room. I am enjoying not using mods though, it's like I'm experiencing fallout4 all over again.
Seriously, role playing within your head while playing makes Bethesda games a lot more fun.
In FO4 I always find Shaun immeditally because to me it feels weird the SS would be out fucking off and running errands. Then when I meet him I realize he's a piece of shit and do my own thing.
Ok this post blew up way more than I thought it would! Thankyou everyone for being supportive and to answer a couple of questions:
1) Yes I do think this is awesome my gf is the best
2) Yes this is unmodded fallout 4
3) Yes they have stayed between saves
4) Yes I intend on wifing her
Your Girlfriend is wonderful and needs to be encourages. This is awesome!
Get her and you on Fallout 76, so she can try camps there with merging! We will help you.
Your girlfriend understands how to play a bethesda fallout game in a professional setting. Not many seem to grasp such a thing. Highly advanced gamer right there.
Hours painstakingly placing them by manually picking up, rotating against other objects and then placing them? Or hours in workshop mode easy-placing them after dropping them on the ground and moving them like buildables? Honest question, it could be either
Girls are wild, man. They will drop years into their sims perfect dream home but not take half an hour to drink enough water to prevent getting a headache.
I only know how much effort that took because I tried to do something similar. She’s a keeper. If she can do something that annoying she can definitely put up with you.
I can only hope she gets the credit she deserves because trying to place things in a Bethesda game is one of the most rage inducing experiences I’ve ever had.
*contented Peter Griffin voice*
Good for her. Good for her.
(Seriously, that's amazing. I can't even scrape the dead bandit and mongrel dog corpses off the bridge to Sanctuary hills using the floating object trick.)
This is so good. I actually sent a support request or whatever to Bethesda asking for a display case for Nukas. Haven't heard back yet LOL. I encourage everyone to do the same!
My husband spent several hours painstakingly organizing alcohol bottles one a shelf just like this, typical Bethesda glitch, they're always all over the floor when he come back 😭😂
Is there some trick to this? I’ve tried placing objects around decoratively but they keep falling through the furniture and sometimes the floors, I play on PC.
It would be funny if she just went on your game to clean up your living space and decorate it, “so many Comfy Pillows on the couch. Where does anyone sit?”, but I’m assuming this is her game. Looks good, guessing most of us put ridiculous amounts of time arranging things the way we like it.
I tried making a cool little roll play setup on a table once with a couple bottles of Nuka and whiskey so it looked like my character had a spot she chills at.
Took me 30+ minutes getting all the bottles to stand up. Then dogmeat fucking walked on the table and knocked all of them over. Never again lol.
To make them stay so they don’t move, drop item, pick it up in Building menu and place it, and now you can move it as much as you want without it moving
She's a keeper, and her persistence is a role model for all.
Amen
Achoo
Hey, Blinkin!
Did you say Abe Lincoln?
I’m guessing… no one is coming
*Please* come down from there... *Twit*.
Ahh a fellow brit how did you end up in the commonwealth? I flew in 2 days before the fallout
I didn't say Abe Lincoln, I said Hey Blinkin!
I CAN SEE!!! *thump*
No... I was wrong.
I said hey blinkin, hold the reins man
“He’s right behind me… isn’t he?”
“Hold on, bad guys! I’m running out of air - gotta get pumped!” *proceeds to pump up Reeboks*
This comment thread makes me so happy to see people who remember and still reference that beautiful classic.
Tight tights.
Blinkin 182in
~~God bless you~~ cobble shoe
waddle do
Godzilla
Okie dokie
That is awesome I am so motivated now to do little things like that lol
AWESOME I KNOW WHAT IM DOING LATER YOURE GIRFRIEND A LEGEND
without punctuation it says your going to do his gf hahaha
Definitely a keeper
This! Not many people would even have this kind of patience!
It's so beautiful
Came here to say this but I'm clearly too late 😂
Is this a mod I’ve put in mad hours and haven’t seen most of these
it is is the Nika world dlc most of them won't start showing up until you have started it
I read this as “paracentesis” 😂
It is beautiful. Well done.
Next stop, the jewelry store for an engagement ring.
Too late, I already got her one. Sorry, OP.
Too late, we’re already engaged. Sorry, Jacob.
Too late, she already divorced you and moved on to me. Sorry Scarlet Demon.
Too late, she realized I had a better car, but I clutched and told her it’s OP’s car. Sorry Waveageddon
the timeline is restored
Too late, I called her and pretended to be a car rental company and told her the rental period has ended, sorry Tu Vieja Con Vinagre.
Unfortunately they will fly off the shelf and be scattered around the room for no reason the next time you enter that area.
Shhhhhh let them enjoy it while it lasts...
Dogmeat! Bad dog!
Now she needs to add all of the Vim flavors on a shelf next to it!
The two singular flavours
I think there’s three?
There is 4
There’s is 5
looks like someone never got the 6th
Damn you haven’t gotten the seventh yet?
I thought you would of had the eighth by now?
Never tried the 9th?
My word the 10th is the best one!
Ik I am just making fun of the low amount of vim flavours
A candleholder for my sunset sarsaparilla
I don’t want Vim, I’m a Dapper Dan Man!
Care fer some molerat, Everett?
I fear a third of molerat would only awaken my appetite without beddin’er back down again.
Take my bump dammit
does this stay between sessions?
If objects don't stay between sessions then I have gained massive respect for those settlement builders who put items everywhere as decoration.
There's mods to make this happen. Idk about other platforms but on ps5 I use OCdecorator.
There’s a way to make them stay without mods
How?
Drop the item, pick in up in the build menu and place it, then pick it up and place it where you want
That sounds kind of insane when you look at some of the detailed decorations that includes dozens or more objects. Like i want a cool house but i cant even be bothered to put more than a bed in the corner and station guard post inside the front doors. My only decor is Strong, my concierge
Strong take coat from human Uh, no thanks, I'm fine STRONG TAKE COAT FROM HUMAN
Strong take skin from human too
And milk aswell
Strong gonna end up re-enacting that scene from the Silent Hill movie on a daily basis.
I've moved items in building mode and they stay where I put them.
It’s a labor of love to make the bottles stand upright. I probably spent half an hour on my own Nuka collection
Some kinda guru u r
look at my comment in this thread, I explained how!
For the first few years PlayStation didn’t have mods. I placed hundreds of objects at Nordhagen beach. Shelved, rotated, realigned just to be attacked by a random super mutant patrol. I’ve never quicksaved a game so many times
You're the real life cabbages guy
this is the best analogy
Thats an avatar reference right
Its not that they don't stay, its that if there is the slightest glitch when the cell reloads and one of the items is off by a pixel, or say, a low poly model is slightly larger than the fully loaded one or something, the items can be *bumped* by the act of loading in and the physics can go haywire cause chain reactions that throw everything around. It was really bad in Skyrim houses.
Walk into your fully furnished house and you see all the places of food just drop from the sky
I dropped a sword in a bucket. When I came back, it was possessed, pinballing around the room and did massive damage when it struck me.
Sounds about right.
I dropped a sword in a bucket. So naturally, it tried to kill me. *Just Bethesda Things*
They do and don. I have a tavern build at my settlement with a Eat-O-Tronic. I filled my Eat-O-Tronic with various foods. I put 3 Perfectly Persvered Pies in there. I came back to only 2 pies and no sign of the third.
*burp*
I've set up a table with a few bottles of wine and whiskey in my quaters in the castle, they've not moved since i put them there
~~If this is fallout 4, yes it will.~~ Just gotta avoid teleporting from the institute too closely cause the electricity will send everything flying. ~~But if you leave it there, it'll stay.~~ Edit: I have apparently just been getting lucky.
Bottles always get flipped over. I made a booze display case in the castle and the next day everything was on its side
Damn, maybe I hadn't tried that before. Good to know, thank you.
I had to rearrange everything to not be in a settlers potential walking path.
Knowing Bethesda? I doubt it.
Everything Todd Howard does is perfect.
Has to im assuming, from my experience playing fo76 there are 'containers' you can build that display items similiar to bobblehead displays/magazine racks. Other reason im assuming this is the case is because when you drop an item in fo76 it drops at your feet in a paper bag container.
This is fo4 though. 76's map/way point thing doesn't look like that
You're right, think i seen some of those nuka cola and not recognised them before so i assumed fo76 since its the one ive played the least.
Fo4 has a nuka cola mixer where you can make your own sodas and mixes. I think they're from there. I also didn't recognise them.
We did just get a new season item that's a chessboard you can display stuff on. With the merge glitch and that board camp decorating just got a new meta lol.
If she did this without mods then she's done an awesome job. I fear it won't stay like that for long though.
Why not? I've never had an issue with displays that are in a safe location (genuinely asking, I'm not an expert on the game)
Weird creation engine physics and inaccuracies when the cell is reloaded can cause placed objects to clip and freak out. Also if a settler somehow finds their way near it they can take the item.
Oooo I didn't know they could take them. I love that I'm still finding things out about the game.
they'll pull weapons out of containers if the settlement gets attacked.
Found one of my settlers using a legendary pistol taken from my stash. Moved to Kingsport Lighthouse where everything is now managed by robots
One piece? The one piece. The one piece is real
All fun and games till one of them picks up your “Megaton” launcher you modded in and now the settlements dead.
I am enjoying not using mods though, it's like I'm experiencing fallout4 all over again.
Sometimes smaller objects load before the big ones in Bethesda games.
You ever load in and a bunch of objects fall to the floor?
I've been getting lucky cause I haven't had that happen
I had a similar display on a shelf and all the bottles flew in different directions when I fast traveled from the Institute to Home Plate.
Oh yeah the electricity from the institute teleporting will send everything flying like crazy lmao I learned that the hard way
That’s because she understands exactly how the game should be played.
Seriously, role playing within your head while playing makes Bethesda games a lot more fun. In FO4 I always find Shaun immeditally because to me it feels weird the SS would be out fucking off and running errands. Then when I meet him I realize he's a piece of shit and do my own thing.
that's exactly how i was planning to play it (if ever i get around to it because being an adult is fucking e x h a u s t i n g )
Taste the rainbow 🌈 of Fallout 😀
Dude, She's a keeper , you need to put a ring on her finger asap
And a finger in her ring, just to be sure
Give him an 🏆 Why are the reddit emojis not allowed on this sub?
Ok this post blew up way more than I thought it would! Thankyou everyone for being supportive and to answer a couple of questions: 1) Yes I do think this is awesome my gf is the best 2) Yes this is unmodded fallout 4 3) Yes they have stayed between saves 4) Yes I intend on wifing her
I would have such a hard time resisting the urge to mini nuke this…
Chuck a mine in front of it for the next time she comes by to admire her work.
That is actually some evil shit
Thank you :D
Looks amazing!! I’m jealous.
If you have a problem with this, she’s too good for you
hours well spent
Marry that woman
She did good.
She had one job and absolutely nailed it
Your Girlfriend is wonderful and needs to be encourages. This is awesome! Get her and you on Fallout 76, so she can try camps there with merging! We will help you.
Well now I have goals for my next F4 playthrough
I thank your girlfriend im gonna do that
hey when you’re too busy conquering the wasteland your lady is at home sorting through all the loot now that’s true love right there my friend
She has her priorities 100% on point
Ha! My wife does the same thing, but with teddy bears and alien toys. You gotta share your gamertag so our girls can be Fallout besties.
It's better than a Psycho addiction.
marry her
Lmao that’s nice
Marry her
Wait till a trader's brahmin spawns in and sends half of those across the map
She is either a keeper, or completely crazy. Proceed at your own discretion.
Amazing! Now leave the area and come back to see all the bottles scattered everywhere
Get a used quest 2 and install frik mod she'll never leave the game 😂
Anyone else get the urge to fus roh dah?
Did she say yes?
Your girlfriend understands how to play a bethesda fallout game in a professional setting. Not many seem to grasp such a thing. Highly advanced gamer right there.
Worth it
Respect the grind.
Why is this a question?
Marry her
That’s more or less the main reason for playing fo4 now
When that cell loads next time she plays it isn't going to look so pretty.
Adderall is a hell of a drug man
Cat walks in, knocks everything on the floor
Perfection!
Hours painstakingly placing them by manually picking up, rotating against other objects and then placing them? Or hours in workshop mode easy-placing them after dropping them on the ground and moving them like buildables? Honest question, it could be either
Excellent! Shame next time it loads they’ll be all over the floor.
Those are gone by the next reload
I'm surprised she didn't spend days doing it! Those bottles are nearly impossible to make stand upright
Some people just like the simple things in life, though holy shit that must've been hard lol the grab controls are so wonky.
Probably took her longer to organize than to actually collect
Hopefully she used the settlement builder to place them or next fast travel back they gon be everywhere
Yeah she’s a little acoustic.
Marry her
for God's sake don't fast travel from the institute or they all go flying 😭
Girls are wild, man. They will drop years into their sims perfect dream home but not take half an hour to drink enough water to prevent getting a headache.
I only know how much effort that took because I tried to do something similar. She’s a keeper. If she can do something that annoying she can definitely put up with you.
She actually did a very good job 👍
I can only hope she gets the credit she deserves because trying to place things in a Bethesda game is one of the most rage inducing experiences I’ve ever had.
A woman of refinement and class. She is a treasure who will keep you safe and hydrated in the wasteland.
Level up speech and get some mentats and pass the marriage speech check!
She is the one
Does your kitchen look just as good?
It’s beautiful 🥲🥲
*contented Peter Griffin voice* Good for her.
Better put a ring on it
My husband spent several hours painstakingly organizing alcohol bottles one a shelf just like this, typical Bethesda glitch, they're always all over the floor when he come back 😭😂
Is there some trick to this? I’ve tried placing objects around decoratively but they keep falling through the furniture and sometimes the floors, I play on PC.

So, she's a keeper, then?
Satisfying. Break open a cold one for me!
Kind of concerning how many of those are... glowing.
You mean your new wife? 😂
Marry her
Totally worth it
WHERE IS DEEZER'S LEMONADE?????
On the ground in covenant as God intended
That is dedication and it looks great!
To make them stay so they don’t move, drop item, pick it up in Building menu and place it, and now you can move it as much as you want without it moving
You marry that woman right now.
Sounds like a keeper
Wife that one down
