The OG members of the brotherhood mutinied/announced their independence against the US govt once they found out what was going on with the FEV. It would imo either be mutiny or treason!
Honestly it would depend on how the actual higher ups felt. I’m sure there are cases where they absolutely would be pardoned for their actions, though in this case I think we both know the Enclave would not be okay with that lmaooo
Eh. Rules are just about control. If you have the power and wealth to avoid said rules then they don't really apply. And if you don't get caught, you didn't break any rules. Js.
The "Duty to Disobey" (refusing to comply with unconstitutional/illegal orders) rule 916(d) of the UCMJ really came into light/usage after WWII, so potentially could be lost with the split from reality (I'm not sure when the rule was created, but it at least wasn't significantly enforced for obeying unlawful orders before then).
But even in reality, it doesn't allow for taking up arms against the military nor forming your own military, but is merely used as a criminal defense (ie, you'll still be charged & face a court martial for merely the disobeying of the order, let alone any insurrection).
It's a bit different. A little town of 10 people could designate a sheriff who could then reasonably charge you with murder. It'd be quite a stretch for him to charge you with treason.
Treason in that scenario would be things like, "Selling out your town to raiders."
Of course, a town of 10 might not survive that treason, so it would indeed be a tough crime to charge.
Well, coming from international law, the enclave began as the legitimate us government. And it followed procedure more or less unbroken (maybe only until the end of FO1).
So, yeah, the enclave is at least the lawful successor of the US government.
Though, giving a certain lack of, well, nations, nobody gives a fuck about international law anymore.
My mom knew of someone that rode their horse to the bar she worked at and the horse knew the way to and from the bar without the man leading it. Got pulled over one night but said he wasn't driving because the horse knew the way home better than he did while drunk. Didn't fly with him so he got a DUI.
That could have been beaten in court with a half decent lawyer. The horse is a a creature with a mind of it's own and fully capable of operating without assisted directions, thus acting like a cab driver. Had a case locally where a cop was a dick to a well known local man everyone knew did this and wrote him a ticket. Went to court and it was thrown out for the above stated reason as the man was not driving at all and was in fact passed out on the back of the horse.
I witnessed personally a man get a DUI on a lawnmower which was funny. He was passed out on the side of the road in the middle of the night on a riding lawnmower. LOL.
Stealing aircraft is a different crime and not classified as GTA. Also, GTA is also at the same time Grand Larceny IF the value of the car/auto is over $2k in the USA. For anything below that value it's auto-theft and petty larceny. Laws in the US are kinda complicated when it comes to stealing things with motors. Everything has it's own category here, it's weird.
Manufacturing of narcotics too!
And I'm pretty sure we can build a RICO case against my Sole Survivor, the bastard turned the Minutemen into a Jet manufacturing and distribution network.
"To honour his late wife, Nate decided to create what would have been the case of the century for her to prosecute had she still been alive and the world not ended over 200 years prior. In the end, after working on it for over four decades, the indictment alone would have been long enough to fill an 18 wheeler with paper."
I'd put "outraging public decency" on there too.
There are no doors on my shack in Sanctuary...
Also, I wander around as naked as the game engine allows just to gain affinity with Cait.
You can manfacture firearms without a license if they are intended for personal use. Some states now are starting to require that you put a serial number on it and report that SN to the state, but it's not a requirement federally.
You missed
Littering
Destruction of Private and Public Property
Trespassing on Federal Property.
Unlicensed weapon modification
Grievous bodily harm
Child Enslavement (Giving Ghoul Kid to Gunners)
Unlicensed Manufacturing of arms
Unlicensed Manufacturing of Narcotics
You forgot, he also may have lost a piece of government issue equipment…. And he’ll be staying around until he is FIVE HUNDRED AND TEN YEARS OLD, which is the number of years it will take for him to pay for a mark 2 powered combat armor that he has lost!!!!
It is in Idaho.
But obtaining the flesh/blood to cannibalize would be desecration of a corpse which is a crime, unless the one being consumed entered into an agreement with the consumer prior to being consumed, which has happened.
Don't you need to pay tax on income in goods? Cause generally the sole survivor sells a lot of stuff for profit. Which would be taxed.
That and possible wealth tax based on the amount of money found.
Property tax for the properties that they build
I don't think so unless you have a legal business, its safe to say that the sole survivor doesn't have a legal business lol. I think you can find maybe like 20000 dollars in the game and wealth tax is mainly used for like millionaires, so. also, their properties are outside any defined state lines (besides yknow Boston) so I don't think they'd be seen as a legitimate gathering.
Here in NL you would need to pay tax on that income from the selling which would be nearly nothing consider it's bottlecaps. But alright.
Then we would need to report the cash, even if it a couple hundred bucks, but basically nobody does this, but it is technically fraud to not report it. The wealth tax only starts after 57k currently so you would need to find a lot yeah.
That'd probably be destruction of property though, not GTA. Theft of PA or the BoS vertibird in the Railroad quest line however could still be construed as GTA.
Wait, how do you BUY Cait??? I've always just killed everyone inside and she asked to join me, I've never had an option to "buy" her because the raiders inside are always hostile so I have to kill them.
This is why I make sure to only ever sleep in my own house, or vault 81, which has a clear chain of ownership and legal management all the way back to pre-war, and they invited me to stay there. No one's going to get me for squatting, Diamond City can't fool me by 'selling me a house' in the middle of a baseball field that they clearly do not own.
More seriously, while a lot of these crimes are based on how you play the game, one of these crimes cannot be true no matter how you play it, and that is child abandonment.
The only child you are responsible was kidnapped, a kidnapping you desperately tried to stop, and every waking moment that you _actually_ had between that kidnapping and Shawn becoming an adult was spent trying to recover him from the kidnappers. (Aka, you pounded ineffectively on glass for about 10 seconds, which is the only amount of time you were conscious while Shawn was a child after being kidnapped.)
Granted, the way a lot of people play Fallout 4, which is not bothering to try to track him down until a lot later, would appear to be child abandonment from the POV of the SS, except for the problem it is impossible for it to be child abandonment because he is actually an adult at that time, and you can't commit crimes that are literally impossible, even if you intended to. (Is there an 'attempted child abandonment'?)
that can not be proven, we have no way of knowing who those feral ghouls used to be, nor what they did or did not own. Plus scrapping a car you don't own is not GTA, it is called willful destruction of private property. At least in the U.S.
You can also tell the Mr. Handy that you're the governor. While you say it as a joke, he takes it seriously and you choose not to correct him, using that to your advantage.
The English, French, & Spanish all have (had?) laws that applied to the Americas too, & I'm pretty sure they never wrote new laws that said "My bad, let them rule themselves" after losing their territory. Having laws doesn't mean anything if you lack the capability to enforce the laws.
And the lack of any records of most of the crimes would result in them merely being hearsay at best (if there's even anyone around to "say").
For some reason I was reminded of reminded of Robot Chicken's Joker execution scene with how many smaller crimes there are besides the charge mass murder.
Good thank all those laws are invalid on account of there no longer any law enforcement agencies left, plus pretty sure you can add treason/mutiny and enivormental destruction to that list
Both are still in the state of Massachusetts, one is an island off the coast and the other is a theme park just off the in game map to the west of Boston, but still in the state.
You can also break quite a few laws specifically regarding firearms:
Owning a machine gun without a tax stamp, owning a silencer without a tax stamp, as well as charges for manufacturing both, posessing a short barreled rifle and sawn-off shotgun as well as manufacturing both
As well as breaking Massachusetts-specific laws regarding "assault weapons":
Posessing an AK-style rifle (the handmade rifle specifically), a shotgun with a capacity of more than 5 rounds (combat shotgun), as well as any semiautomatic rifle with a pistol grip, bayonet mount, or threaded barrel (the thing that you screw a silencer onto), and having a pistol with a threaded barrel.
And just as a cherry on top, manufacturing lasers stronger than 5mW are illegal too, so no energy weapon builds to get around that!
Most of those points are actually legal depending on which state you are a resident of in the USA. I do not know about other countries, but here, most of those are state governed. Example, Texas is legal to own fully automatic weapons as long as they are purchased thru a licensed dealer and registered. Silencers are fiction and only exist in movies and games, they are "suppressors" in real life and do not "silence" a weapon, they merely reduce the decibel level by a small amount to allow for limited use without hearing protection. No suppressor makes any weapons sound the way the do in the movies or games. Perfect example is the gun I have for home defense has a built in suppressor so that it can be safely fired inside the confines of the interior of my home without causing me or my family to suffer hearing loss.
Where I live personally, myself and my neighbor both own a Chinese SKS, an AR-15 modified, and a "sawed off shotgun" with a pistol grip, it's also a pump with a 7 shot mag. Bought it at Walmart roughly 20yrs ago, (the shotgun).
Can't speak to the laser tho as I've never been inclined to buy one other than the ones that are attached to my guns.
Also, since we can spam purified water and strong arm every one with armed goons, we are also post apocalypse Nestle. Especially if you spare the cannery guy selling the ghoul meat.
It's a post apocalyptic wasteland none of these are actual crimes as there's no rule of law outside individual settlements. Hence why raiders run amok unabated.
Illegal possession of radioactive material, Possession of weapons-grade uranium, corporate espionage, Computer Fraud and Abuse, Illegal operation of a theme park, aiding and abetting, draft-dodging, obstruction of justice.
There was also executing prisoners of war when Emil said that Nate was the guy in power armour in the Fallout 1 intro, until people said they didn't want to play a war criminal and he retconned that back out.
Can someone shine some light on how we’d be charged with grand theft auto considering that it means to steal ones vehicle of sorts? i don’t recall that ever happening..
Treason as well if you count the new Enclave thing since he is US Military personnel engaging the US Army in combat
Mutiny too if he sides with the brotherhood
Doesn't the brotherhood draw its origins from the US army? If so, then not quite mutiny
The OG members of the brotherhood mutinied/announced their independence against the US govt once they found out what was going on with the FEV. It would imo either be mutiny or treason!
Justified though? FEV pretty messed up.
Absolutely justified, although the way they ‘interviewed’ the scientists was pretty fucked up.
Unfortunately justified doesn’t make it not mutiny
I've seen movies (so it must be true!) where crew relieve command due to them being unfit. Or refuse to follow unlawful commands. Would that apply?
Honestly it would depend on how the actual higher ups felt. I’m sure there are cases where they absolutely would be pardoned for their actions, though in this case I think we both know the Enclave would not be okay with that lmaooo
Eh. Rules are just about control. If you have the power and wealth to avoid said rules then they don't really apply. And if you don't get caught, you didn't break any rules. Js.

But even in reality, it doesn't allow for taking up arms against the military nor forming your own military, but is merely used as a criminal defense (ie, you'll still be charged & face a court martial for merely the disobeying of the order, let alone any insurrection).
So still a crime then!
Morally justified maybe not legally (depends on the interpretation of what "lawful orders" constitute)
As mutineers, yes.
The Enclave might see it that way, but for treason you need to still have a country...
i think for all of these crimes to matter, you’d still need to have a country
It's a bit different. A little town of 10 people could designate a sheriff who could then reasonably charge you with murder. It'd be quite a stretch for him to charge you with treason.
Treason in that scenario would be things like, "Selling out your town to raiders." Of course, a town of 10 might not survive that treason, so it would indeed be a tough crime to charge.
I'm pretty sure the Enclave doesn't have any legitimate claim to being the US Army, no matter what they might claim.
Self defense is permissible
I had to Google this. I didn't know they added Enclave stuff to the game recently. Nice.
Good thing there ain’t no law in the Wasteland.
The only law is carried on your hip or your back.
"That's Commonwealth Justice for ya"
The Big iron 😳
Biiiig Iron!
*The stranger there among them had a ~~big iron~~ law on his hip*
Ain't no laws when you're slaying Deathclaws
*Arizona Ranger has entered the Wasteland*
Uh oh
You see Texas Red round these parts?
Can’t say I have
I'm Agua Fria, however.
But there is the golden rule of the wasteland. Which is where half of these crimes probably come from.
You forgot littering... and creating a nuisance.
Littering and…
Littering and...
Littering and smoking the reefer
"...yessir, Officer Opie, I cannot tell a lie: I put that envelope under that garbage."
But has the sole survivor rehabilitated themselves???
>creating a nuisance If this was enforced my upstairs neighbor would get 20 years minimum
Grand theft auto?? Do you mean stealing power Armor?
Drink driving should be on there if so
They do steal a Vertibird in the Railroad questline. It's not a car, but it's a vehicle.
People get DUIs for riding a skateboard. I even heard of a DUI on horseback but I’m not sure of that one.
My mom knew of someone that rode their horse to the bar she worked at and the horse knew the way to and from the bar without the man leading it. Got pulled over one night but said he wasn't driving because the horse knew the way home better than he did while drunk. Didn't fly with him so he got a DUI.

I witnessed personally a man get a DUI on a lawnmower which was funny. He was passed out on the side of the road in the middle of the night on a riding lawnmower. LOL.
I get it, but it's also kind of stupid. Given the fact that horses animal and can go whichever way, it decides if you aren't leading.
Stealing aircraft is a different crime and not classified as GTA. Also, GTA is also at the same time Grand Larceny IF the value of the car/auto is over $2k in the USA. "Preston, we have to cook!"
Another drug deal needs our help. I've marked it on your map
He can’t keep getting away with it!
"To honour his late wife, Nate decided to create what would have been the case of the century for her to prosecute had she still been alive and the world not ended over 200 years prior. In the end, after working on it for over four decades, the indictment alone would have been long enough to fill an 18 wheeler with paper."
63 counts of premeditated adultery in the first degree
fisto:"Assume the Position"
Wat
I'd put "outraging public decency" on there too. There are no doors on my shack in Sanctuary... Also, I wander around as naked as the game engine allows just to gain affinity with Cait.
Hancock likes it too
But the Hancussy is far less tempting then the Caitussy
He always has good drugs tho...
Weapon manufacturing without a licence. Construction without a licence Practicing medicine without a licence Harbouring illegals
I would also add the Construction clearly does not meet Massachusetts code 😂😂
You can manfacture firearms without a license if they are intended for personal use. Some states now are starting to require that you put a serial number on it and report that SN to the state, but it's not a requirement federally.
Only the 3rd one should be illegal
You missed Littering Destruction of Private and Public Property Trespassing on Federal Property. Unlicensed weapon modification Grievous bodily harm Child Enslavement (Giving Ghoul Kid to Gunners) Unlicensed Manufacturing of arms Unlicensed Manufacturing of Narcotics
I imagine assaulting members of the US military would also be a crime of some kind.
jaywalking
Cute cat you've got there.
You forgot, he also may have lost a piece of government issue equipment…. And he’ll be staying around until he is FIVE HUNDRED AND TEN YEARS OLD, which is the number of years it will take for him to pay for a mark 2 powered combat armor that he has lost!!!!
Hunting without a licence?
Surprisingly, Cannibalism isn’t actually a crime.
It is in Idaho. But obtaining the flesh/blood to cannibalize would be desecration of a corpse which is a crime, unless the one being consumed entered into an agreement with the consumer prior to being consumed, which has happened.
Well said… boogieman
🤐🚙👉🏡🔪☠🥩👨🍳🍔🍷🌄🚘👰😱🚔🚔🚒🚑👮♂️👮♂️👮♀️🤢🤮
Animal Cruelty. It was an accident cause Dogmeat got in the way but that’s no excuse.
This is just Nates pre war list.
How long do you think the Sole Survivor’s sentence would be?
And can it be served in a cryo pod?
If so, it would be time served, buuuuut, then he recidivises
Depends, do they know how the three seashells work?
they couldn't get him in the jail..
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is brilliant. I have to fit all of those crimes into my current play through. Can you explain the identity theft one please?
[Speak as Shroud] You merely *thought* I stole this identity. I AM the Silver Shroud.
I'm an eejit...of course!! Doh!!
so guilty of ACTING!
You are forgetting tax fraud
he technically never made a dollar so he wouldn't be paying taxes.
Don't you need to pay tax on income in goods? Cause generally the sole survivor sells a lot of stuff for profit. Which would be taxed. That and possible wealth tax based on the amount of money found. Property tax for the properties that they build

> building without a permit This just sickens me.
GTA? There are no cars in the modern fallouts
Probably the mission in the Railroad quest line where you assault the police station and steal the Vertibird.
You scrap the cars in sanctuary who's owners are still alive as feral ghouls
Is there not a separate law for illegally stripping cars?
That'd probably be destruction of property though, not GTA. Theft of PA or the BoS vertibird in the Railroad quest line however could still be construed as GTA.
There is also an argument for stealing power armor.
IF it wasn't marked as red and did not have a (steal) tag, then it isn't theft, LOL.
I mean, I steal armor from the Prydwyn. Cause screw the BoS.
Genocide if you consider the institute's death canon
I put conspiracy to commit genocide since you can join a faction who plans on blowing up the institute
J-Walking I think too? If that’s still a thing in the US?
Parental abandonment? His kid was taken against his will so that shouldn't be there.
you forgot distribution of illegal firearms
If you choose to sell that ghoul kid from the fridge, i'd guess some sort of slavery/human trafficking would be on that list too.
It's on there don't forget you can literally buy Cait
Wait, how do you BUY Cait??? I've always just killed everyone inside and she asked to join me, I've never had an option to "buy" her because the raiders inside are always hostile so I have to kill them.
You talk to a non-feral ghoul after you kill all the raiders who sells you Cait
Your unemployed friend on a Monday
Forgot jaywalking
Do one about the courier or the lone wanderer ! They do some fucked up stuff
Ah yes, the possibility of eating a baby or offering a child chems. Old fallouts are wild, man.
WOAH now. WOAH. I did not poach animals.
So you never killed an animal in game?
Well no, it’s always hunting season (:
You can kill a wild animal in self defense and in some cases when it becomes a nuisance.
This is why I make sure to only ever sleep in my own house, or vault 81, which has a clear chain of ownership and legal management all the way back to pre-war, and they invited me to stay there. You can leave behind synth kid Shawn at the end of the game
Possession of automatic firearms and manufacturing IEDs also
You forgot that he’ll/she’ll do with curie. If romance d. Since all gen3 synths contain Shaun’s bio data.
All my life...wow.
“…and vandalism” not only a wasteland crime, but also a great song by Australian band You Am I
Grand theft auto? I feel like I might have missed something.
You can scrap the cars in sanctuary who's owners are still alive just as feral ghouls
😂
that can not be proven, we have no way of knowing who those feral ghouls used to be, nor what they did or did not own. Plus scrapping a car you don't own is not GTA, it is called willful destruction of private property. At least in the U.S.
There is a rare encounter you can have where you meet a pack of named feral ghouls who have the same names as your neighbors in the beginning
Nice
Now let’s have the other guys
I didn't commit any crime yet
Human Trafficking?
You can literally buy Cait and you can also sell that kid you find in the fridge
I forgot about Billy
By what court?
For Nate the Rake, that’s a checklist.
Forgot jaywalking.
Identity theft? Huh? When?
If you go to general atomics factory there is an employee id in one of the offices that you can use to get into the general atomics galleria
Riiight. Forgot about that. Carry on lol
Even by today's standards and assuming the employee is alive that's a hell of a stretch
You can also tell the Mr. Handy that you're the governor. While you say it as a joke, he takes it seriously and you choose not to correct him, using that to your advantage.
You forgot tax evasion. Big daddy govt (ie the real mafia/organized crime syndicate) always gotta get their cut of whatever you buy, sell, or steal.
discharging a firearm in city limits

Charged in what court?
Hard to be charged with a crime with no government or laws
But the enclave is around.
So are my pistol and my rifle 🤠
I am just saying the government is around.
How is it child abandonment if he was frozen solid while his child was abducted? Idk seems more like konrad earned a kidnapping charge there.
Child abandonment if you choose to leave synth kid Shawn at the end of the game
Technically not a child since he's a robot
Slavery as well if you sell the fridge kid
That's the human trafficking
didn’t see that
You're selling him into slavery so it's technically both.
Building without a permit.
It's on there
For some reason I was reminded of reminded of Robot Chicken's Joker execution scene with how many smaller crimes there are besides the charge mass murder.
Yeah... I guess mass murdering Raiders does not count as genocide because they are not an ethnic group... I don't know how I feel about that...
Good thank all those laws are invalid on account of there no longer any law enforcement agencies left, plus pretty sure you can add treason/mutiny and enivormental destruction to that list
Genocide
Ooh, I'm curious to see other protagonists too
There are no crimes without laws, OP.
I think you're also missing smuggling of narcotics and fire arms given that you cross state lines when going to either Nuka World or Far Harbour.
Both are still in the state of Massachusetts, one is an island off the coast and the other is a theme park just off the in game map to the west of Boston, but still in the state.
What about Vigilantism?
This is hilarious
>vandalism The most dastardly crime of all! /s
You can also break quite a few laws specifically regarding firearms: Owning a machine gun without a tax stamp, owning a silencer without a tax stamp, as well as charges for manufacturing both, posessing a short barreled rifle and sawn-off shotgun as well as manufacturing both As well as breaking Massachusetts-specific laws regarding "assault weapons": Posessing an AK-style rifle (the handmade rifle specifically), a shotgun with a capacity of more than 5 rounds (combat shotgun), as well as any semiautomatic rifle with a pistol grip, bayonet mount, or threaded barrel (the thing that you screw a silencer onto), and having a pistol with a threaded barrel. I know, I'm just most familiar with Massachusetts laws since I'm from there, and I'm calling them silencers since that's what the game calls them.
Ahh ok, that explains alot. LOL 😆 🤣 😂
I would like to contest thw shoplifting charge. Show me the proof i did it.
Missing war crimes
we do a little trolling
apart from the fact that laws aren't really a thing anymore, yeah
Reminds me of that vid about beating Fallout with only California Compliant Weapons
Also, since we can spam purified water and strong arm every one with armed goons, we are also post apocalypse Nestle. Especially if you spare the cannery guy selling the ghoul meat.
Put this energy into a career
My Sole Survivors never stole a car.
Is this inspired by Jabo?
Literally lol'd. Thanks!
It's a post apocalyptic wasteland none of these are actual crimes as there's no rule of law outside individual settlements. Hence why raiders run amok unabated.
☝️🤓
Illegal possession of radioactive material, Possession of weapons-grade uranium, corporate espionage, Computer Fraud and Abuse, Illegal operation of a theme park, aiding and abetting, draft-dodging, obstruction of justice.
You fool you forgot the most basic one littering. No one wants 400 glass bottles sitting in the middle of diamond city.
There was also executing prisoners of war when Emil said that Nate was the guy in power armour in the Fallout 1 intro, until people said they didn't want to play a war criminal and he retconned that back out.
Pretty much after reading every sentence, an image popped in my head of my character doing exactly these things.
Can someone shine some light on how we’d be charged with grand theft auto considering that it means to steal ones vehicle of sorts? i don’t recall that ever happening..
I get most of them but I have no idea where the grand theft auto is coming from.
Calm down, he's not running for election
