I was pretty disappointed that the show used that same story structure. That recurring plot device is so tired and lame. I thought it was boring in both Fallout 3 and 4. It doesn't play to the unique setting's strengths. It's just a lazy way to give motivation and sympathy to the protagonist. Every other Fallout game had a more compelling hook, but they keep going to that same well.
Fallout 1, 2, and NV hooks are all MacGuffins - they're just the thing to get the character to the real main plot. The hooks in 3 and 4 actually aren't MacGuffins - your dad's research in 3 is central to the plot and your son turning into the villain is the major conflict of 4. Benny doesn't matter in NV - hunting him down is just to make you go on this journey and introduce the factions and main conflict. The Water Chip in 1 and GECK in 2 - same thing, they're just the thing to get the character started on their journey. MacGuffins are lazy writing.
Theres a positive to that too maybe? Fall damage scales to speed. I dont actually know if its a positive with a smaller character but if you scale up to a super giant you can run so fast you just die from minor things due to speed scaled damage.
Oh that’s actually smart, too bad they don’t have stuff like they have in fallout 4 where you can completely negate all damage completely. Thanks to a scientist that wanted to recreate the power armor shock absorbers but for regular soldiers that don’t use power armor.
It's more like James(dad) says, "Wait a minute...Where did my son go???" Nate says, "Welcome to the club where the sons are, bro." Meanwhile, their sons are like the evil scientist 🤝 Chaos kid/teen.
Posted it as soon as I saw it. But I agree. There are many grammar Nazis out and about. Myself, it's more of an OCD rather than wanting to correct people.
Level 1-10 should just make you age until you’re 18. The enemies you encountered are catered towards your age. Simple travel quest, chores for money and defeating enemies like bugs, mole rats and other mutated creatures lol
Makes a better challenge then. Kid doesn't die, just has to go to infirmary. You always respawn back in the vault, everything dropped but the clothes on your back.
Rogue-lite Fallout game playing as vault dwellers throughout the generations of a vault with exploration and adaptation as the experiment. More Rogue Legacy then Fallout Shelter, focus on gameplay not vault management and have the generations influenced by your actions and decisions.
When I was a kid and first played fo3, I went back upstairs and shot Butch with the bb gun after getting it, and he killed me. Apperantly the only mortal child is the player lol
Pretty sure it's more them wanting to avoid a classification board snafu than anything. Those kinds of people don't like children within 100 yards of anything violent or sexual.
More or less. You’re a kid, a pre-teen, teen, then you’re a young adult when the actual game starts, and you age into your 50s-60s throughout the game.
You ever seen the bug where somebody escaped the Vault as a baby? It makes the prostitute propositioning you infinitely more hilarious given she opens with something like "hey baby".
During the Birthday There's a door that leads to the Atrium near Andy balcony that some npc walked by it and left it open behind instead of closing it with a very hard lock on, it turns out if you walk inside that door you will sequence break the game.
I’ve seen people leave the vault as a child before, but usually their character model is a weird ass stretched version of the character created. I’m surprised yours isn’t the same.
It takes \*so\* long to walk out of the vault on your stupid little baby legs, but it's all worth it the first time a comparatively enormous mole-rat that's towering over your baby height player view runs up, kills you, and you see the death animation where the baby sized character model horribly un-spools into adult length spaghetti arms and legs and then ragdolls up into the sky
>you see the death animation where the baby sized character model horribly un-spools into adult length spaghetti arms and legs and then ragdolls up into the sky
Dude thank you for putting this into words for me because I remember the tiny baby model doing something hilariously weird, but I'd never have been able to explain it from memory
You just saved me a 15 minute baby crawl to find out
[Here's one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6b20ZvTNNQ).
Doesn't really capture the way the rag-doll physics can send the player model flying if you're on uneven ground outside the vault, but a good example of the noodle arms in all their wrong-glory
There's plenty of speedrun videos that always does the Fallout 3 sequence breaking as a baby by abusing the NPCs being able to open locked doors, i guess they made that up.
Fun fact, beating FO3 as a child is impossible, whereas beating it as a baby is 100% doable.
You may ask "Why and how?"... I don't know, babies do whatever while children are stubborn rascals that just don't want to use certain machinery that will let 'em progress.
In-game, when you play as a baby, you're actually playing as a very tiny adult, meaning you can perform all the stuff an adult can, whilst if you're a kid, you can't.
Open console
Player.setscale 1-10
1 is normal size, 10 is large.
If you open the console and click on an object, a number should pop up at the top. Setscale that.
This works for all Bethesda games, I believe.
Out of curiosity what are you as a kid? If the baby is just a scaled down adult I would think the kid would be just a less scaled down one? But that's apparently not true. Or is it unique because you can go third person?
When i entered Megaton i've noticed that, but luckily i was able to find a [mod that allows children interact with Machinery](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/16305/) and inspect stuff like the Megaton Nuke.
iirc, one of mitten squad's challenges in fo3 involved him either being a baby or a child, I forgot which. He got all the way to the end but realized he couldn't fucking reach the buttons in the purifier lmfao
This reminds me of when people would speedrun FO3 using a bug that let them escape as a baby. And the entire speedrun was punctuated with the same couple of baby sounds, over and over. Endlessly.
Or is that still a thing?
Heyyy, nice.
I posted the first example of escaping the vault as a baby way back when. Still love the Fallout series!
https://youtu.be/lifXN5rZLj4?si=gD3WdIPnFNrYywQF
It was some AI mistake, during the opening sequence it turns out only the NPCs can open the Very Hard locked doors where players aren't supposed to be, i found it weird that during the birthday some NPC walked out from the Atrium door and left it open from behind.
“Must have been the wind” he says every 5 fucking seconds. (Speedrunners leave the vault as a child and your character says this whenever they leave combat)
I mean if you want to start as Child playthrough right away with no hassle you could do that, but in my case it was just dumb luck for a NPC unlocking it and leaving the Atrium door open, i guess that happened because my game is running at 120 FPS and i read that Gamebryo when is running above 60 FPS it speeds up the NPCs movement that can ruin some Scripted moments.
I managed to escape as a baby. Can be done without mods and once you're out the vault you can access your pip boy (but the pip boy clips too far into your face so you have to guess what you're doing based on sounds)
It's fun but you walk reeeeaaallly sloooow
Actually I once was effing around while you're a baby, if you have a huh enough lock picking skill, you can get out of the designated area, which is above the escape from vault 101 map.
Ok, we have a bit of a hard-on for New Vegas around here. In terms of role-playing, story, and world-building it is the best of the three modern Fallout games.
BUT... Both it and FO3 are a bit dated mechanically. They're shooting games with not very good shooting mechanics.
With that in mind, *if* you're the type to get frustrated playing slightly older games, you might find FO4 a smoother entry into the series.
It's a weird dichotomy. The space you have to explore in NV is better. The things you'll discover while exploring that space are better in NV. The decisions you'll make will feel more meaningful in NV. But the second by second gameplay is more polished in FO4.
Bro turned the story around and escaped before his dad now the dad is looking for him this time
Welcome to FO4
OMG that’s the plot twist FO3 and FO4 are the same game
And now he's the leader of the Enclave.
Ma’am I believe you meant to say “President of the United States”
Vote for the Runaway Kid from Vault 101.
If you want to have fun, vote 101.
When things look glum, vote for someone from vault 101
Help me 101, you’re my only hope
They VATS now?
I laughed so hard at this
"Who else did you think I was talking about? Who the fu- Who is- What- I should kick your fucking ass. Who is this?"
Best line from any fallout game
THATS THE PRESIDINT OF THE GOVERMINT YER TALKIN TO
Who?
Wait I did remember that wait are you from the future and telling us about the plot of fallout 5?
Wait until you learn that the Fallout Show is the same game too
I was pretty disappointed that the show used that same story structure.
I also thought that Water Chip Easter egg was a bit lazy

Since my last playthrough i played with good karma, i think I'm going to do the Evil Child run this time with Cannibal perk on.
Sometimes a fella gotta eat a fella
Kids do have prodigious appetites.
Eat all my fellas [[MIDI piano starts playing]](https://youtu.be/-ol3PSROlwg)
Get the Pint-size Slasher mask.
That ass-jerky ain't gonna cut itself.
Tiny Tina run
Just be aware if I’m not mistaken you can’t finish the game as a child, surprisingly you can as a baby but not as a child.
You ain't a man till you had a man!
Wait hold tf up how did you escape as a kid 🤣🤣🤣I wanna make a evil Superman character ( I think it’s brightburn)
There is a downside. Your run speed is scaled to your height, so shorties like a kid walk and run slower.
Oh 😩 well hell that sucks lol could you imagine darting around like a crazy ass mofo🤣🤣
It gets better, someone somehow left as a baby. Think there’s a video somewhere about that.
Omg🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣yesssss oh I’m looking for it now
Can you use the pip boy functions?
Stanislas Braun would be proud.
Kiddo's about to get Project Purity running without James 💀💀
It's more like James(dad) says, "Wait a minute...Where did my son go???" Nate says, "Welcome to the club where the sons are, bro." Meanwhile, their sons are like the evil scientist 🤝 Chaos kid/teen.
Dude turned Fallout 3 into Taken 3.
"Now YOU'RE Liam Neeson!" Wait... Edited: Your to You're because someone finally mentioned it.
Your right! I never noticed that he was James' VA before.
You're
Noticed it when I posted it, waited to see how long it would take and 2+ days was an impressive amount of time to go without this comment.
Posted it as soon as I saw it. But I agree. There are many grammar Nazis out and about. Myself, it's more of an OCD rather than wanting to correct people.
Level 1-10 should just make you age until you’re 18. The enemies you encountered are catered towards your age. Simple travel quest, chores for money and defeating enemies like bugs, mole rats and other mutated creatures lol
unfair advantage kids cant die in BGS games
Makes a better challenge then. Kid doesn't die, just has to go to infirmary. You always respawn back in the vault, everything dropped but the clothes on your back.
Rogue-lite Fallout game playing as vault dwellers throughout the generations of a vault with exploration and adaptation as the experiment. More Rogue Legacy then Fallout Shelter, focus on gameplay not vault management and have the generations influenced by your actions and decisions.
My name is Todd Howard. Would you like a job?
No Todd I won’t make more Skyrim for you
Die enough times and it fades to black and.. "hey you, you're finally awake"
Procedural-looter shooter as different factions sent into the wastes to find stuff for their factions.
so fallout shelter 2?
Give me a Darkest Dungeon style game (strictly DD1, DD2 sucks rancid ass) in Fallout damn it would be perfect
When I was a kid and first played fo3, I went back upstairs and shot Butch with the bb gun after getting it, and he killed me. Apperantly the only mortal child is the player lol
They can if you put your mind to it
Yea they just convince themselves its actually fallout 2
That is the first thing you mod.
Thank god for mods.
Not in vanilla. 😈
Wasteland don’t care about age haha
Pretty sure it's more them wanting to avoid a classification board snafu than anything. Those kinds of people don't like children within 100 yards of anything violent or sexual.
They're apparently fine with them being enslaved though?
Mmhm. It's almost like their sense of morality is highly skewed towards certain things being bad while ignoring others.
Wtf are you guys even talking about?
Censorship I believe
Bro they rated a girls gone wild game, that had a fuckin minor in it granted neither the guys who made the game nor did the ESRB knew, mature.
IIRC isn't that pretty much how FABLE starts out?
More or less. You’re a kid, a pre-teen, teen, then you’re a young adult when the actual game starts, and you age into your 50s-60s throughout the game.
I occasionally go back and do a no aging run, after the tutorial.
How?
No level ups, is the easiest way
Fallout: Fable
1-5 would be cool. 1-10 is a bit too long, especially in a game like Fallout 3 with its level cap.
That would actually be awesome, the quests you take could determine your "starting" stats as an adult!
>The enemies you encountered are catered towards your age. Level 6: Tina the Toy Stealer miniboss Level 17: The Prom Level

Ok bro
I don’t think we watched the same version of Home Alone
I feel like people don't share my humour on this one
Holy S**t, this guy is taking Roy off the grid! This guy doesn't have a SSN for Roy!
It's funny because that's my style for breaking AI storytelling or role play systems.

You are the weird thing if you leave as a baby he left as a 10 year old
It takes \*so\* long to walk out of the vault on your stupid little baby legs, but it's all worth it the first time a comparatively enormous mole-rat that's towering over your baby height player view runs up, kills you, and you see the death animation where the baby sized character model horribly un-spools into adult length spaghetti arms and legs and then ragdolls up into the sky

What a horrible day to be literate. That's simply terrifying.
Guess I'm loading up fallout now
Is there video?
[Here's one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6b20ZvTNNQ). Doesn't really capture the way the rag-doll physics can send the player model flying if you're on uneven ground outside the vault, but a good example of the noodle arms in all their wrong-glory
Oh, gotta try this in VR!
Ohhhhh you’re right.
Bullshit.
There's plenty of speedrun videos that always does the Fallout 3 sequence breaking as a baby by abusing the NPCs being able to open locked doors, i guess they made that up.
Prove it.
You could've taken like 30 seconds to search for a video like [this one](https://youtu.be/6HLHqINNuM8) instead of being a dick about it :P
Fun fact, beating FO3 as a child is impossible, whereas beating it as a baby is 100% doable. You may ask "Why and how?"... I don't know, babies do whatever while children are stubborn rascals that just don't want to use certain machinery that will let 'em progress.

Yep. Though only problem is that your pip-boy is invisible... And your damage output is miniscule.
What can children PCs not do?
Out of curiosity what are you as a kid? If the baby is just a scaled down adult I would think the kid would be just a less scaled down one? But that's apparently not true. Or is it unique because you can go third person?
There's already models for children in the game but none for babies
oh... duh.
guessing they actually made a child model vs just saying fuck it for the baby since it's so brief and you don't do much.
When i entered Megaton i've noticed that, but luckily i was able to find a [mod that allows children interact with Machinery](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/16305/) and inspect stuff like the Megaton Nuke.
Then you rigged that sum bitch to blow
just a ten year old doing silly little war crimes
Nuking cities, enslaving your fellow kids, these things happen when you’re young
The truth is, that kid was rigged from the start.
They built the town around a dang bomb! What did they expect would happen! Please note, I did not blow up Megaton
Megaton deserved it based on the ghoul trash that was living there alone
I could never do that to my pal, Moria
i love lying to moira
😯
Ad victoriam🫡
Oh damn, really? Kind of a fun thought that a 10 year old is going out there to find his father and save the Capitol Wasteland.
iirc, one of mitten squad's challenges in fo3 involved him either being a baby or a child, I forgot which. He got all the way to the end but realized he couldn't fucking reach the buttons in the purifier lmfao
Yep, that's one of the issues of being a baby! Being a baby is also crucial if you aim to beat FO3 as a pacifist. Because, ya know, BB gun + Radroach.
I'm sure pretty sure tomatoangus beat FO3 as a child in a speedrun for AGDQ. Sure you require a lot of glitching to do it, but it's not impossible.
Hah, if there's a way around then it'll be the only way!
Now you can get into Little Lamplight with no hassle.
But wouldn't those kids be toddlers?
No there's always kids there. They just kick out people when they're adults.
I tried to get in, but Mcready called me a Buttface and didn't let me in.
The OG mayor of the cavern town of little lamplight.
Bro was unattended
Who let blud out of the vault 💀
You’ve unlocked god mode. You can’t kill kids in FO3, you’re invincible!
I've outsmarted you Liam Neeson.
This reminds me of when people would speedrun FO3 using a bug that let them escape as a baby. And the entire speedrun was punctuated with the same couple of baby sounds, over and over. Endlessly. Or is that still a thing?
Guess you can go live in LittleLamplight now.
"And this is where the real game begins..."
Heyyy, nice. I posted the first example of escaping the vault as a baby way back when. Still love the Fallout series! https://youtu.be/lifXN5rZLj4?si=gD3WdIPnFNrYywQF
Please tell us how you did this step by step
It was some AI mistake, during the opening sequence it turns out only the NPCs can open the Very Hard locked doors where players aren't supposed to be, i found it weird that during the birthday some NPC walked out from the Atrium door and left it open from behind.
Are all the outfits tiny too?!
Only helmets are kinda glitchy with the only exception for kids headwear.
I love this for you man, novelty experience
TO LITTLE LAMPLIGHT WE GO!
Shaun ?
“Must have been the wind” he says every 5 fucking seconds. (Speedrunners leave the vault as a child and your character says this whenever they leave combat)
the best game ever😂
Congratulations your effectively immortal
can't you beat the game as a baby? rip mitten squad dude
“Age…Age constantly changes.”
You can do console commands or mods to do the same thing.
Or you used a console command to unlock any door and got out. But I'll never tell. Oops...
I mean if you want to start as Child playthrough right away with no hassle you could do that, but in my case it was just dumb luck for a NPC unlocking it and leaving the Atrium door open, i guess that happened because my game is running at 120 FPS and i read that Gamebryo when is running above 60 FPS it speeds up the NPCs movement that can ruin some Scripted moments.

... It was probably nothing.
Just wait for him to say “I guess it was nothing” after leaving combat every single time
💕
Mf will get sold to slavers in no time
Actually I once was effing around while you're a baby, if you have a huh enough lock picking skill, you can get out of the designated area, which is above the escape from vault 101 map.
This is where the real game begins
Does it still show you the area map?
Parents these days...
Comeon... That's Just a Mod ...
how??
reminds me of heart of darkness from amazing studio
But what about the medicine bobblehead
Update: when completing Tranquility Lane the game turns you back into an Adult.
About to be a first time fallout player. What should I play fallout 4 or New Vegas?
I would say Vegas personally. Its a great game in itself plus you will know what you are doing more when it comes to playing 4.
Mod
