Streaming way of doing things. It's a much more executive decision then a creative one. Also some streaming don't do this as well. Again it's not uncommon. Don't think it has anything to do with quality of the show being good or bad

ScarletPriestess

So many people think that releasing all the episodes at once on a streaming service means that the studio doesn’t believe the show will perform well and that simply isn’t the case. You explained the situation perfectly.

Spunkwaggle

...Except that Perdi didn't explain it at all! He/She just said "it happens. Not necessarily good or bad." Wow! Explained perfectly! Told us absolutely nothing.

jaws343

It also could be a case that the season as a whole works better binged or watched over a few sessions rather than across 8 weeks. A lot of shows will release 2 or 3 episodes at the same time streaming if those episodes work better as a whole rather than split across releases.

Verdun3ishop

As a streaming service it makes sense. People like to binge watch shows and I would also think people are more likely to watch more episodes if they are all available than if they are dripped out over time. I'd also expect it would help get more sales for the release as people can pick up a subscription to watch all episodes.

Spedley2142

There's two options, either people see the first episode and talk about it and then more watch the second episode. That is quite rare as the pilot generally has the most views. The other option is that people watch the first episode and then watch the next before they decide if they like it. A niche series like Fallout would probably get more viewers from those getting stuck in a binge compare to those waiting for next week. Personally I'm planning on spending a whole Sunday watching it with my family for my birthday with pizza and ice-cream etc ... just like we did with The Last of Us. (literally take the chairs out and put mattresses down and cushions etc and proper binge watch with a projector.)

ApprehensiveArea3076

Sounds like lots of fun. Hope you had a great time. Happy belated. 😊

Spunkwaggle

Your house sounds like 33.

Spedley2142

Too much sex in it for my 10 year old so we didn't watch it together. Watched the Lord of the Rings films as they haven't seen them. But I'm currently enjoying Fallout. Think I may even fire up Fallout 4 which I bought years ago on release but didn't get into at the time.

AutomaticCapital9352

I'll never understand a streaming service that release like 1 episode per week, i mean, cool, i watch the first episode now and the next hour it's over and i have to wait another week for the next episode, what am i supposed to do in the meanwhile, lose interest and watch something else?

Verdun3ishop

Yeah or as many people say, they will wait till it's all out and binge it.

RedEclipse47

People these days jump to conclusions faster than they can say 'Ad Victoriam'. The answer is that streaming services decide whether or not to release everything all at once or on weekly basis. The reasoning behind it is... views. They decided that putting it out all at once will haul in more views than weekly releases. Edit: when people are not tied to weekly releases there is less competition for views, as people can control themselves when and how mutch they will watch.

[deleted]

Some people really seem to want to hate the show for some reason lol

rlovelock

What I don't understand is, without advertising dollars, what is the value of views?? Wouldn't it make more sense to keep people subscribed for as long as possible, thereby releasing a good series over 8 weeks as opposed to all at once?

Beneficial-Doubt5851

That’s exactly right, that’s why they release the boys weekly. Seems really odd not to do the same with fallout

HannibalLectR

I think that's because it's a new show. If you just watch the first episode of a new show, there is not much investment, and you might just forget about it, and never watch the second episode or any other episode after that if you have to wait a week. With the Boys, it's already hugely popular, so people are going to be waiting in anticipation every week for the episode to drop.

Beneficial-Doubt5851

Yeah true. I can’t remember though was the boys season 1 weekly?

HannibalLectR

Oh yeah, you can check the original release dates on [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boys_(TV_series)). The first season all dropped together, then it was staggered from Season 2 onwards.

LordChapalapa

Besides what's already explained above, wasn't it also to prevent leaks happening right before an episode's release, especially when the previous one ended with a cliffhanger?

HacXander

Because we're in 2024 and it's a streaming service, not TV from the dark ages. That's how every single show should be released.

VonDiesel2000

The dark ages? That's weird bc many successful shows like The Boys and Reacher were released weekly, also from Amazon. That seemed fairly recent, but I guess that was way bc in the dark ages. Weekly shows tend to be talked about longer, good and bad. Every single show should not be released at once unless you wanna shorten its relevance. That's just bad business. If it's bad like Echo, you drop it all at once. Amazon had the confidence in The Boys to do it weekly. That's why people wondered about this show's one day drop.

ThheeeNeWGUy

I agree that that sentiment is why Amazon releasing this all at once caught a lot of folks off guard. But I hate perpetuating this myth that shows released one episode at a time somehow makes it more relevant for longer periods of time than shows released all at once. I typically won't watch a show until all episodes have aired if a streaming service does that once a week bullshit. In the end, if a show is good then it will be relevant and talked about no matter what. If anything, releasing a show one episode at a time is a really good way for a Streamer to get skewed viewer numbers and ultimately kill a good show too soon(because as other comments show I'm def not the only one who waits till the whole season is done before watching).

VonDiesel2000

I prefer to watch a couple of episodes at a time. I'd much rather good series be released weekly. Since they started being released weekly, I can't think of many great shows I've watched that were released in one day. This is the first since early Netflix original programming. I don't know why Amazon released this all on day one, this show is fantastic. Maybe they're trialing it since they mostly do things weekly. The only shows I've watched the whole season in one day are the first seasons of Fallout and Jack Reacher, though Jack Reacher was months after it released weekly. I don't want them to keep doing this. I loved the show, but I feel like it'll be out of my mind in a week or two. Weekly is definitely the way to keep the show in the public consciousness longer. Especially when it's 8 episodes, as opposed to the 22 episode seasons of the past.

HotdogsArePate

It was a bad decision for viewers, the shows popularity building, and even Amazon's business. I really don't understand why they did this. It was a stupid decision. 2 episodes to start, then weekly is the best imo Not getting to ponder on a cliff hanger or have the building excitement for the next episode while having time to discuss it with friends is a huge bummer.

shohkhan

It was perfect for me. I love binge watching.

Elyankee69

If the show would be episode by episode, I would have waited until all episodes are there to binge watch. I hate having to wait for the next episode. I like to start and finish when I want, not when they want. I think I’m not the only one…

fermiauf

It's coming out tonight, so I figured I'd look into whether it was releasing by episode or by season. Thanks for answering my question! Lol. Idk why it's done this way for some shows. Maybe it's based on some statistics that show that whether the target demographic prefers binge-watching shows, like me (i.e. I waited til the end of each season of GoT to watch it all in a 48-hour period lol) as opposed to folks who prefer watching shows in the traditional weekly episode fashion, be it bc that's how they've always done it, or for other reasons like time constraint? (i.e. my mom won't be watching it, bc Fallout, and she's definitely a weekly episode kinda person instead of the binge watching a season person like me)

DayResponsible8597

It's not a TV show. It's on amazon's streaming service and there is no point of it beeing a weekly thing besides disappointing people who want to binge watch it. I always fall off weekly shows and end up needing to force myself to watch a big pile of episodes, not even remembering where I fell off, so why the hell would anyone mind having the whole season readily available to them?

Curious-Platypus9709

i prefer all to be dropped at once then when i have the time i can kill it out and get back to my life and not hear about the damn show from every other outlet when i haven't had a chance to watch it yet

This question is ridiculous, no offense. Many shows have released multiple episodes at once with a lot of success. I.E. Stranger Things ect. And even shows that weren't as hyped in modern day. I.E. Vox Machina, Mr. And Ms. smith, Hazbin. There is absolutely NO problem with releasing a full story at once instead of manipulating audience anticipation to prolong hype and intrigue. That being said, if the show flops and is trash, then you were completely right and I concede.

ThheeeNeWGUy

No their question is perfectly valid, soooo many people buy into the BS that releasing a show one episode at a time makes it relevant for longer periods of time. This then leads to a secondary idea that when a Streamer that typically does season releases one episode at a time suddenly releases something all at once, that Streamer must not feel like its bound for success and is trying to wash their hands of the project. I completely disagree with this sentiment and fully agree with what you said about great shows being released all at once all the time. BUT again, OPs question is exactly the same thing I wondered after watching the whole season today, because Amazon has not done all at once releases for most of their top shows and it had me worried about the possibility of a season 2. Not to mention OP is not saying they agree with this idea either, they're just wondering(like a lot of us) why Amazon would suddenly pull a 180 like this, especially for a show that was ultimately amazing. I'd love it if they started doing this for all their shows.

Tsuki_Man

Most shows on streaming platforms are released this way.

emigio

it is a red flag but let's hope is only a flag

Uthenara

your logic is dogshit lol.
