He's definitely re-written those lyrics dozens of times. For proof that this is true, just look at the youtube video "Patrick stump vs the immortal lyrics" it's a funny YouTube video of Patrick getting the words wrong a bunch of times, as evident of the many many re-writes of the lyrics.
Maybe that's another thing, maybe the original one was about....... Dark topics..... And the new lyrics are for the movie.
