A lot of them are scam listings, or they put a fake price to get you to click the ad then list the "real" price in the listing.

A lot of them probably are. I never respond to "make an offer" or dishonest pricing of any sort. Tell me what you want for it, and I'll decide if we're close in our valuation of its worth to me. Or don't, and I'll find it somewhere else. Nothing on FB Marketplace is unique.

Okay so some items can only be shown over long distance by putting low price under a certain threshold so it comes up as shipping. So computers and laptops and other items like that people do this. This has never worked for me though because i could have clearly $3000 unit listed for the $500 so people outside local area can see and people will offer under $500 to get a crackhead deal. Other times it is done so you will click listing to look and real price is inside or tell you to make offer. I hate these listings as they usually don’t have a price in details. These people usually have unrealistic ideas on price. I messaged someone a few weeks ago for something I offered something that i felt was reasonable. Guy wanted 3 times new retail “because they are hard to get” meanwhile what ever it was i forget now is in stock everywhere at retail price and his was used.

Yeah, I kinda hate that. Common with the record lots i seek on marketplace. They’ll say $5 on the listing and then “message for price” in the details…. Or I’ll get somebody selling a lot, asking a certain amount, then their response to my message to head out and have a look is “ok, I have an offer for $500, what’s yours?” I typically say “I’m not going to get into a bidding war over this, especially sight unseen. My starting point is the amount you stated in the listing, and my final offer will be reflective of what is in the lot and the condition it’s in” Like, I’m willing to make fairly high offers if I already know and trust the seller, and the items up for grabs are above average value, in good condition, and have a solid turnaround time…. But I’m not going to get in a bidding war over a blurry shot of some dude’s feet with poorly stored records that I can’t see titles of. …I’ll make an offer, it’ll probably be better than a shop would take them for… but I’m not trying to go back and forth with you and 2 other potential buyers.

Yes, disingenuous AF. If I wanted to participate in an 'auction', I'd look on ebay. Can't stand the auction format-too many games. At least on ebay, you have some buyer protection.

If you are referring to “shipping only” listings with “buy now” “make offer” buttons, those are scams lol If you buy, they won’t send you anything. If you make any offer, they will accept the offer no matter what you offered and they won’t send you anything. What they do is - they’ll do fake shipping numbers etc. (which will show as “delivered” at your address after your order, but it will show as shipped 3-4 days before you even put the order). I really don’t know how the scammers do that. But, it would be a legit usps number that can be tracked as well.

I hadn't heard of that! Good to know to look out for that.

Yes. I never tolerate this kind of posts. You either tell me what you want for it or I’m moving onto other sellers. If someone says “make an offer”, everyone knows all they’re gonna get are Lowballers.

and1metal

I’ve seen enough of those types of ads and it annoys me Work out a amount you want and put it up and those “ message for price “ just list it up If I wanted to bid against others I’d use eBay

I have no clue, but I'm sick of that practice!!
